I dont know.. I honestly think that you win. Hanging it all out there building a boat with thin money has to give you stress like no other. But your pluckey as fukk and are doing this anyway like the rest of your adventure balls to the walls and you make it through even if just bearly. Myself i dont think i could take the stress of not knowing if the money will be there when the boat is..

Delos flow of building the boat makes it much easier to follow, multi point Delos. The video production is also better from Delos, so point, them. Either build would benefit from the electronic welding Bering will be doing on their new line of explorer cats (basically eliminates heat from mis-shaping the panels along with cleaner welds that require less grinding). While the Bering cats are of a much different breed, I think all shops that use aluminum will eventually have to invest in that technology.

Come on guys there are other alum cats out there , ever hear of Jupiter, been around for a while,sailed halfway around the world and ever took a detour through the great loop. & now is up the golf of California,it’s sitting on the hard up near USA. in Mexico. Jupiter is a 50 ft performance with dagger boards and she moves pritty quick. She is there for a refit. It’s a Mumby & has some sisters!

The other Al cats are Both Australian Barefoot doctors ...with a Portofino build and an Australian family Sailing with the James's .. they are sailing their boat up North and finishing it off as they go .. it's a tough raw aluminium cruising cat set up to keep their little girl and pet cat on board. They just part re rigged with dynema. ..but they are not afraid to beach and dry out to hull jobs. Dad's a professional boat/sea captain.
No I haven't heard of Jupiter. They probably comb their hair and wash fairly often.

IMO the build quality on Delos' cat is much better.

Fossil fuel is awesome, don't get stuck on this and go sailing, you have enough challenges already.
Going electric on a sailboat is for those with huge budgets that want to show off. It's delicate stuff that will crap on you at the worst time and you won't be able to repair/change in remote places.
Put a few outboards for dinghy and big boat and use the sails for most of the distances.
The weight penalty of fully electric, autonomous, seems insurmountable to me. You need an enormous battery bank. The solar to charge it isn't such a problem so long as the surface area is available. But the weather to let the solar work is another matter. if you are cruising long distances in remote places, it seems impossible to avoid at least a back up diesel generator to keep everything running in a weather crisis.
Are your dagger boards aluminium? Shouldn’t they be a sacrificial? What happens if you hit something?

I dont think Delos is better or worse than your build. Two different philosophies.

Every boat is a compromise, and you know that. You have a product that you market and an audience. Delos have a product and an audience.
compromise schmompromise...its a little good natured fun to go with the builds ... you cannot be serious all the time
The Aussies at Stradbroke Yachts that are building Delos 2.0 are forming and welding a smoother flowing, better looking aluminum cat. They are masters of the English Wheel and curving all the hull plates to fit perfectly.
Their English wheel on top is too narrow. If you ran your hands down the ally it would feel like corrugations...also some of their shell plates are way too small... the bigger the better ie less welds means better strength ...but theirs is shinier

I totally support your efforts, but Delos wins! Better entertainment with less time required to watch. If you had more beautiful girls involved, you might get an edge. That’s always been the appeal of your channel. Lol

Well, one problem, and it might be worked out if Delos will work with you but Delos has a habit of being behind a minimum of 3 and quite often 6 months or a year with their videos. It might be possible to find out the real time situation but, good luck with that.
Back in the second week of July Delos posted on Instagram about a BBQ for Patrons to celebrate flipping the boat over. They said in their most recent video they were still a couple weeks from that point. So that puts them about 3 months out.

I am a tripod....i get it. I am at a military shipyard where there are strict rules.
MJ Sailing are building a cat from a kit. A couple of years into the build and they are doing the majority of the work themselves. RAN sailing is building a 50 foot wood monohull from scratch !
How about the manufacture of aluminum? That is a very long way from fossil free, extreme amounts of energy required, mostly electrical. Now if you made it out of bamboo you would have something to shout about, And no, you cannot produce aluminum using solar! Go blow your trumpet, thats all you are doing.... but maybe it makes you feel good?

In the Delos vs Sailing into Freedom, Kev at Salt & Light with the Dix470 wins with his demonstration of plywood composite vs alumium.
At some point in future it would be cool if both boats were side by side. I see a lot of similarities besides the dagger boards
The winner will be the first one to sail around the world without any fuel.
And on the subject of fuel, does cooking fuel count, or are you going to cook with electricity? Getting propane could be a problem unless you have a collection of different valves. I know they have different ones in Costa Rica than in Panama, along with different tanks. I don't know about the rest of the world but I can foresee problems with getting tanks filled or having the right valve.

Indeed, alu is a great material for building boats. However, charging batteries for the e-drive via waterturbines is a bit wishful thinking and not very efficient in the long run.

Plucky they are completely different yours is ALUMINIUM and Delos is ALUMINUM even though he is building in a country which only has Aluminium. Who is finishing first and who is fastest on the water is the real test. André
Delos is building heavier gauge aluminium and fixed keels, no comparison.

Hull shell plate is 6 meters long and bent in compound curves over that distance... can't get longer than that. Do you know what you are talking about?

Who can best pull off sailing a cat? SIF 1- Delos 0. It takes a special person to sail a cat AND make good youtube films. That's why I'm no longer watching the Aussies on their cat.
Depends on what you want... if you want real... then maybe stick around after we start sailing....You might be surprised...no fancy camera work, no special effects just raw and real

Are people doing any redesign for rudders that are being attacked by the killer whales like maybe being able to retract out of the water or maybe have retractable points built into the sides and maybe the leading edges of the rudders that may dissuade them from making charges at it while they are around ? Or maybe a retractable jet drive ? Any body try an compressed can truck air horn on these troublemakers?

Has your team looked into any potential "stray current" with the battery setup? Everything that can rust may rust super fast. The sailing channel "Gone with the Wynns" has had a huge problem with it on their new hybrid cat...
