One of my favorite things about watching you guys do this is just hearing you talking up the talent of everyone involved. Just hearing you guys being all "Antfish is SUCH a massive talent" and "Martin's a brilliant actor" is really nice to hear.
I know “doesn’t afraid of anything” only really from this special. Like I’m now aware of its original context, but when I think of it, I think of Bardock
I've always felt that the aliens who could see the future were playing the long con. They wanted Frieza to be destroyed and saw that the only future in which that happened was one in which the saiyans are destroyed by frieza. I believe that they purposely lost to bardock and his saiyans in order to make frieza scared of their power. And per vegeta during the namek arc they do "miraculously repopulate" which suggest to me that some of them hid away from the saiyans and returned at a time that they deemed safe to do so. Pretty much the whole of dragonball up to the death of frieza could have been set in motion by their plan to get frieza killed.
@@TorrentialStardust I was more referring to the commentaries over DBZA, I'm excited to watch them almost as much as when I was waiting for the episodes originally way back when.
I remember absolutely losing it at this movie. From the repeated yelling at frieza to the freaking Jetsons sound effect on the bubble car… I just couldn’t. I was in tears. Thank you guys for so many great moments and memories.
Glad to know this is intended to be viewed between the seasons, because that's how I showed it to someone. Mostly because I figured the Freeza voice joke works best if you hear this first. And then also, I figured by the time the Dodoria reveal happened, they would have forgotten the "guy" speech, making it less awkward.
I didn't see anyone comment this but for those wondering since they said they used the Japanese names for Bardock's crew. The female saiyan is Fasha in the english dub fat one is Shugesh Tall kind of bald one is Borgos and Bardock's best friend is Tora
I'll never understand why the names were changed in the dub since it's pretty clear early on that all the Saiyans are named after vegetables. The only other one I can think of whose punny name was lost in translation is Turles.
It’s interesting to me that you hadn’t come up with the idea to make Dodoria a woman yet because for the LONGEST time. I was sure that when she says “I’m just willing enough to oblige” I heard it as “I’m just WOMAN enough to oblige”. I don’t even know what that would MEAN but it made sense to me and I somehow interpreted it a female empowering? “Don’t send a man to do a woman’s job” That sort of thing
I was there for Youmacon that year. It was my first major convention experience and it was amazing! I saw Takahata101 and MasakoX run into each outside of the hotel. I was ferried out of the room this movie premiered in because Nostalgia Critic was about to have a panel there (that was messy planning). I started singing the Captain Planet credits theme with my friends in the pre-registration line, and by the time the rap came up, everyone in the hotel was singing it. Youmacon 2009 was legendary!!!
I love what you guys did in HIFL making Zarbon all these years never realizing he was speaking in so many innuendos. Personally (and this is just me) I always thought, all of Zarbon’s people spoke in innuendo, that innuendo was just Zarbon’s race’s main spoken language. “Innuendo more like in your endo”, LOL
I think the mouth movements worked out great with the performance. It is a bit like in Team America where the Matt Damon doll got messed up so they just made him dumb and say his own name like a Pokémon. Those movements worked perfectly with “I CAN SEE THE FUTURE”
I remember going to the Team Four Star website as a young teenager, and seeing that you guys had already cast everyone all the way through the Buu saga. I remember thinking, damn they're on top of it.
i always found it fitting that the freeza force and the saiyans are a bunch of memelords who make dated references. especially with this taking place in the past.
The "I CAN SEE THE FUTURE" moment I feel solidified the fandom of DBZA for Spaz Boys Comedy. Curtis' whole skull turned red in 20 seconds from how hard he and his son were laughing at that part. For you guys to turn an old wrestler who knew nothing about anime in any sense and have him fall in love with characters like Krillin thanks to Abridged and go through the entire Dragon Ball series and other legendary anime franchises is a testament to the broad reach of many people around the world that you've touched with your comedy styling. On behalf of us, we thank you.
I like that you guys are doin a better job of pacing the commentaries, pausing when necessary, not talking over key parts when you are really trying to pay attention to the little details of the execution. Cheers

If you're wondering, you can see the old cast list in the first FAQ video. Some of them actually came to pass! (Namely Kaiser as Future Trunks, Takahata as Imperfect Cell and Porunga (Granted, he played all the forms, when the cast list said KaiserNeko would be Cell, but the point still stands) and Hbi2K as King Cold.) Also, this isn't the only time TFS used GT footage. (Baby makes a brief cameo in Kai Abridged 2.9)

There is a small part of me that still hold out for the Buu abridged. A small spark that I won't ever let be snuffed. Sometimes I make up the story in my head that I think you guys would have made with it... 😔
Buu saga is a arc about goku wanting to trust the next generation so he can train for fun, but he learns that he can't only rely on them. He learns that if everyone pulls their power together, they cannot be beat. buu, while at the end not being the strongest he was with his absorptions, is showing the strength of one against the rest. This is represented by the Fusion of gotenks, vegito and then cultivates in the spirit bomb. Goku learns to trust in power he's gained along side everyone else on earth. Everyone working together
Nick, gotta tell you this. Your old man Grandpa Gohan voice, is really impressive. I did not notice it the first few times I watched it, but watching it now made me realize how close you got to accurately matching Christopher Sabat in the funimation Dub of Dragon Ball.
I appreciate the ellaboration on the future sight gag a lot here, and how it's 'OH I BARELY KNOW WHERE I AM', that always went over my head and actually like, brings this far more in line with the style of humor you guys have.
I had assumed all the 80s music here was because "Solid State Scouter" had a 80s vibe to it too. I also never picked up on the logic behind the Kanassans being "dumb" was that they were so de-contextualized from their surrondings as a result of seeing into the future that they lost track of "when" they were. That's such a neat idea but now that you've said it it totally ties into Bardock constantly being interrupted and caught off guard too.

Thank you for doing this thing you're doing, guys. The commentary at the 10 year marathon was great, but I like this, being able to slow down and get more detail, even better. Wish Taka and the others could join in, but we can't have everything.
I remember you guys did a fanart contest at one point, and I started a fan script for History of Trunks Abridged because I had what I thought was a killer joke for the ending. As the time machine starts up, a phone rings in the background and we hear Bulma get a voicemail "Bulma Briefs! I implore you to stop what you're doing! If you fracture the timeline, my people will-" The time machine blips out of time "...I CAN SEE THE FUTURE!"

Yeah, the way Toei treats TFS is just terrible. I'm 100% certain that I wouldn't have watched Super or bought Xenoverse 1, Xenoverse 2, and Fusions if DBZA hadn't rekindled my interest in the franchise.
I remember when TeamFourStar added those hypothetical character cast lists to their channel, such as Lani being cast as Goten.
"I CAN SEE THE FUTURE" is timeless comedy.
I still catch myself thinking of it time to time. How did they come up with that? Was it a comedic reference or completely original because *cheff's kiss*
@@Metguy123I think it’s a reference to ATHF?
Honestly, it's incredible that the scene of Freeza going through wines and ending on Rosé works so goddamn well nowadays.
THEY CAN SEE THE FUTUUUURE
Martin's Ginyu is so close to his Bakura and his Frieza is so close to his Marik that hearing that audition tape was like coming home.
29:12 Freeza calling the Rosé bit here was so ironic
HE CAN SEE THE FUTURE
I like how bardock wears a bandana soaked in his friends blood and the fact is overlooked in every other dragonball media
My biggest gripe with Super Broly is that they just cut out the headband entiret
@@fangzntalonz it would make no sense tho, frieza attacked vegeta without dodoria eliminating first some saiyans
@@valentds It also would have coagulated and turned the headband brown after a little while
@@fangzntalonz I also didn't like his armor change, the green and red looked better
I think the bandanna is seen in that tiny clip in the flashback before freeza blows up the planet vegeta
The original post, which is about Master Chief, goes: "I think Halo is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills aleins and doesn't afraid of anything."
Nick really put his whole heart into that “YEAHHH!” When he was singing you got the touch.
Shit you're right.
Holy... You're right. That makes way, waaaay too much sense.
I love Lani's short-lived role as Grandpa Gohan.
I often find myself saying "white wine, red wine, or dare I say rosé?" when choosing something to drink.
Here I am, over a decade later waiting anxiously for DBZA again.
I love it.
I mean, they probably won't do Buu or more but the stuff like Dragonshortz and HFIL is there.
Bruh this was 2009?! Lord how time flies. I didn’t even know that was everyone’s first time meeting in person. That’s crazy!
And Scott looked so dorky! In the best way, of course lol
@@rachawakka He's had quite the glow up
"Sir, I think Bardock intends to have words with you." Love that line.
Plus saying guy in my own opinion is not as gendered a term when talking casually
If voice acting doesn't work out in the long run, Lani could be the lead singer of a rock band.
I didn't see anyone comment this but for those wondering since they said they used the Japanese names for Bardock's crew.
The female saiyan is Fasha in the english dub
fat one is Shugesh
Tall kind of bald one is Borgos
and Bardock's best friend is Tora
I'll never understand why the names were changed in the dub since it's pretty clear early on that all the Saiyans are named after vegetables. The only other one I can think of whose punny name was lost in translation is Turles.
@@LordArikado Turles's name was a victim of the whole "L=R" mixup that translators run into with Japanese words. It should have been Tulluce
@@MattManDX1 And Tulles is a play on lettuce, right?
Wait. Since GT is no longer canon, does that mean that Bardock’s psychic powers let him see into alternate timelines?
When was GT ever cannon lmao
Well Zarbon never realized back in season 2 when Vegeta killed him while delivering an innuendo and Zarbon was just confused
I think the mouth movements worked out great with the performance. It is a bit like in Team America where the Matt Damon doll got messed up so they just made him dumb and say his own name like a Pokémon. Those movements worked perfectly with “I CAN SEE THE FUTURE”
Lani looking at the camera as he does Popo’s “hi” wouldn’t be out of place in a horror movie. 🤣
I remember going to the Team Four Star website as a young teenager, and seeing that you guys had already cast everyone all the way through the Buu saga.
I remember thinking, damn they're on top of it.
To this day... More than 10 years later. I still quote "I CAN SEE THE FUTUREE" when I predict something (in games and movies and etc)
One of my most frequent quotes is from Salza in this, something about it is so enchanting to me when he says "But...why?"
This still holds up as one of TFS's best works
You have no idea how often I scream I CAN SEE THE FUTURE in my daily life
i always found it fitting that the freeza force and the saiyans are a bunch of memelords who make dated references. especially with this taking place in the past.
"I CAN SEE THE FUTURE!"
Is easily one of the best lines from the entire series.
Best reoccurring joke too
Wow you guys made a Goku Black joke back in 2009, congrats on that level of future vision.
THEY CAN SEE THE FUTUUURRRREEE!!!
They need a sitcom because Lani and kaiser are national treasures
Hey, have you watched Unabridged yet?
@@Dragonslord01 of course
The LittleKuriboh audition is so great! Thanks for including it. This is a great set of commentary videos so far guys.
The “WHAT IF I WAS A GIRAFFE” line just gets me every fucking time. I can’t believe more people haven’t mentioned that in the comments LOL
Cheers
Y'all are doing the movies and specials, too? Oh my God. This is even better than I dreamed.
You guys were always great at conventions, I'd show up to your panels whenever you went to AWA. The way you laughed your asses off that year I showed up as the cabbage merchant and had Lani sign a cabbage, just priceless.
I saw TFS at their Melbourne Panel, and i have such incredibly fond memories of it. Truly, one of the best panels I ever went to.
If you're wondering, you can see the old cast list in the first FAQ video. Some of them actually came to pass! (Namely Kaiser as Future Trunks, Takahata as Imperfect Cell and Porunga (Granted, he played all the forms, when the cast list said KaiserNeko would be Cell, but the point still stands) and Hbi2K as King Cold.)
Also, this isn't the only time TFS used GT footage. (Baby makes a brief cameo in Kai Abridged 2.9)
I'm so glad they changed Taka to be all the forms of Cell. I can't imagine it being anyone else now.
@@Woodenfan Specifically his performance of first and perfect form Cell. Im not sure it could be replicated by anyone else, it's *perfect*
@@Woodenfan Honestly, I think it was Hellsing Ultimate Abridged that got him the role for every form of Cell lol
He basically just does his Alucard voice, and it fits perfectly
There is a small part of me that still hold out for the Buu abridged. A small spark that I won't ever let be snuffed.
Sometimes I make up the story in my head that I think you guys would have made with it... 😔
I just really want to see what they do with that bank robber who looks suspiciously like Nappa
YOU CAN SEE THE FUTUURE!
@@Dr.Starbound cannot tell you how happy I am, even if it's shorts. But now they've opened the gates again I need them to do Super 😅
@@FRAAANKYSUUUPER they did some Super shorts a while back
I'm glad that they're going to do the specials too!
I'm SO glad the cast uses Dodoria's proper pronouns, love to see it.
Man, I still quote "I can see the future!" every so often. It's such a fun bit.
I loved what you did with Cooler's dialogue in his movie.
31:32 Slight correction: History of Trunks is based on an extra manga chapter that (as far as I can tell) Toriyama did write.
i'm still pretty sure that extra manga was put nearly the end of the cell saga in the manga, so after the anime special was aired...
again, toriyama used those specials to integrate his story
@@valentds The chapter came out in August 92, The special was February 93
Holy Crap! I didn't know that renowned internet personality DJ Sexcidillionaire was featuring this far back. Off the top of my head I can only remember his Van Helsing and Narrator 2.
I asked myself immediately when you started this if you were going to cover things outside of the main series. Thank you for the pleasant surprise.
What I love about Scott's commentary is that he dives into the ensemble of art and theory of the script, lore, production of their work. His insights into the matrices of musical choice, purpose, and its evolution in tandem with their scripts... its so thoughtful and appreciative
Thank you for doing this thing you're doing, guys. The commentary at the 10 year marathon was great, but I like this, being able to slow down and get more detail, even better. Wish Taka and the others could join in, but we can't have everything.
This was your best video yet of this series. Thanks for showing those auditions, wow that's warmed my heart
I remember you guys did a fanart contest at one point, and I started a fan script for History of Trunks Abridged because I had what I thought was a killer joke for the ending.
As the time machine starts up, a phone rings in the background and we hear Bulma get a voicemail
"Bulma Briefs! I implore you to stop what you're doing! If you fracture the timeline, my people will-"
The time machine blips out of time
"...I CAN SEE THE FUTURE!"
Okay, that is hilarious
I still remember my time in boot camp, being bored to tears on down time, replaying this movie over and over and watching it with some of the guys there, you made that down time go faster guys, this movie was awesome.
I was lucky to see this live at Youmacon when they first premiered it. It's not my favorite special, but it holds a real special place in my heart.
I've been watching you for about 14 years, since the TGWTG-times. And I'm really glad you're some of the creators who got out of that site's influence without some weird scandal. I'd love a continuation of the series, but what we got was still really great.
I love DJSexidillionaire his voice acting in Fire force is top notch.
I love how you guys referenced Chris Sabat and Eric Vale, who did Piccolo and Trunks, your two favorite characters to play as
I miss Kaiser's videos showing a glimpse behind the curtains for putting episodes together. As a graduate in Graphic Design and former Premiere user (now using Davinci Resolve), I really appreciated the tips and whatnot.
King Yema was voiced by the same person who did Recoom?
Literally had no idea. I absolutely loved Recoome's performance, it's honest to God one of my favorite parts of planet Namek.
"As Recoome was sayin.. the names Recoome! And it rhymes with doom! And you're going to be hurting... All! Too! Sooooon!"
Classic, absolute banger of a character
Being a transformers reviewer/ fan, hearing transformers music play in a piece of dragonball media was amazeballs for me. I was always wondering about why you guys used it but NOW I KNOW! 🤣
Thank you KaiserNeko for introducing me to "Solid State Scouter"
One of the SICKEST Dragon Ball Tracks and it went hard in the TFS Bardock Special.
The movies too? HELL YES!
Technically not a movie. It was a tv special originally, and might be considered the same by the guys here.
@@TheShockVox they watched this special during the Movie Marathon so it's possible they'd do them again and thorough this time.
@@NativeJoel they literally say in the video "we will be doing the movies too" so I'd say it's a fair assumption they will be doing the movies.
I look forward to these videos every week. Hearing fun behind the scenes stuff is a treat and you 2 just singing everything is so fun!
4:10 that awkward silence followed by the change in subject killed me the first time i watched the movie
It feels weirdly refreshing hearing these guys call out the flubs of the Dub. Most don't call out their mistakes outside of jokes.
I didn’t think you guys would do the specials and movies cause you already did an awesome charity stream with Taka looking at all of them
But hey, I’m totally down for another look at em!
