Technics RS-B965 Cassette Deck, this is only video with complete image.
Replace belt, pinch roller, cleaning parts, new grease, replace gear part number RDG0034 + RXG0009.
In my Opinion RS-B965 is better than Nakamichi Dragon in many way.
Nakamichi Dragon It has too many cables, too many gear parts, Nakamichi It has a rubber wheel on it, design is old, display is old versus RS-B965 with a nice display who have 2 meter range who you can change, RS-B965 very clean inside, Nakamichi Dragon very hard to service, sound is the same with RS-B965, in my opinion who i have many decks in time and i sevice many of them, it matters a lot how the mechanism is built and RS-B965 is the winner.
RS-B965 is superior when you record a tape.
Of course both decks is good and both is on top 5.
Yes Nakamichi was for years best deck on the planet, but world has evolved and Technics made RS-B965.
For me only two decks cassette is BEST, Technics RS-B965 and Pioneer CT-95.

I am going to replace the 4 pinch rollers and capstan rubber belts and the other drive belts on my TECHNICS RS-DV280.I hope that will fix the problem so i can start to record again.I bought my hi fi brand new nearly 20 years ago and have done lot's of recording.I have seen on you tube that there are some bad quality pinch rollers on the market,hope the ones i ordered are good quality.

Thanks for this amazing video, I have a 965 too, it doesn't detect Chrome or metal tapes, when I push the connector, it comes up on the monitor but doesn't do anything when I put the actual tape. I also tried to record a tape the other day, and the main volume has a lot of noise. Another crazy thing it does is when I press the meter range, it activates the memory stop !! It may need cleaning, but I don't know how to get access to the behind those knows and buttons and don't want to damage anything.
What is filmed in reality took a long time, requires skill, patience and knowledge of mechanics.

38:19 Thanks for the closeup shots. I wish I could find an original supply roller arm for my 965... This does help getting an idea of how it looks if I were to try and 3D print one, although I will have to do it in separate pieces, and there is no guarantee it will work properly, especially the material...
What happens with your original arm ?
@@focsaciprian Someone have removed it from the deck, because he wasn't able to "fix" it properly when it started to chew tapes. I bought my deck like that. The guide that sits between the takeup roller and the head is also missing on mine. It's actually a pretty common situation here in Bulgaria. Lot's of people with these decks have their supply arm missing/removed, which is really sad. I've been searching for a replacement for 2 years now (Part number is RXP0026). So far, nothing. These decks are not cheap anymore, so buying one for that part only is not really an option.
@@Astralify You cand build another if you find an original at a friend, you can make from metal or metal bronze, ant thing is possible to make if you want.
Or you can make another from original at 3d printer.

This is how cassette deck mechanism service should look like. Excellent job. I did the same for my Technics RS-B765 some time ago and it also works perfectly.
One remark: The cassette sensor plastic case holder (black plastic part in 29:41) appears to be broken during sensor disassembly. I hope the deck recognizes tape types properly? I'm using ultrasonic cleaner for these 🙂

I had RS-B765 deck, just a model below. Single capstan and no dbx. Everything else the same. First the same gear cracked on mine. Managed to remove it and glue the shaft from outside and it worked for a few years. Then I stopped using it for the next 100 years and recently I tried but the first problem was to open the door. It would take a few attempts to open it (door itself wasn't stuck) and then all would work fine until the next time when I turn it on. Then it would take even more attempts to open the door. Once opened it would work fine again until the next time. Finally one day it refused to open it at all. So I pulled it apart to spray the micro switches and during this process the old cracked sprocket fell apart in pieces. In chase for a new sprocket I came across another RS-B765 for sale for €120. When I checked the deck before I paid for it, everything was working well. Got it home and guess what: the door wouldn't open immediately. Not quite the same fault because when I would press the open button it would turn on from tape to monitor display without opening the door. A few more clicks and it would open and then open/close function would work fine, but still switching from tape to monitor function. After a few operations everything would work fine. The microswitch for tape/monitor function is on the board behind the display and instead of spraying it with contact cleaner I was thinking of removing it from the board if that one is playing up. If that doesn't work then removing the open/close door switch and to manually activate the function with tweezers. But I have a feeling it is the IC controller playing up. Maybe a cold soldering point or some transistors or didoes change of value effecting the voltage to the IC... Or should just keep using it as is until complete dead.
So it looks like this is a common problem with these models when they get old. However they are not that expensive second hand unlike this €15000 price tag for RS-B965 which is more than for some top Nakamichi second hand models. Technics were my favourite brand for all components, but they certainly were not the best. They just had a good price to quality ratio, but not the best, so I dont think you will sell it for that price. Good luck.
That is just crazy design when the source sound goes thru that big rusty connectors. Hate it. And they did it TWICE. First to the board and next to the pot. JVC did it right with long shaft to the back to the deck where the pot is sitting.

Great service man. I had mine serviced few years ago and now i need to service my Panasonic 965, wont go into play. rewind and fast forvard do work tho Not sure if it is a little cog again or something else on this one. Also, some buttons stick kinda and when pressing one ( like dolby B a dolby C or dbx or nothing would respond.... )....hope it is just a matter of cleaning

The device is an extremely, extremely rare one, have playback head like new condition becouse the owner don't use this deck so is like new, 100% professionally serviced and unmodified, unrepaired like parts, records like the first day.
I think this deck will work another 25 year until now.

Replace the 2 capacitors at the motor board, I did this and it plays at exactly 3000hz when I insert 3000hz test tape 👌👌 very good machine

Nu as gresa toate rotitele cu dinti daca as fii in locul tau.
Previi uzura, dacă folosești vaselina corespunzătoare nu est enici o problemă, fiecare tip de vaselină are diferite proprietăți.

@@sh0t734 Evoluăm..😇, vaselina ca și produs a evoluat în caracteristici.
Nu refuz a lua în considerare ceea ce spui, nu am răspuns cert la referirea ta, eu am ales să ung cu acea vaselina foarte fină ce previne eroziunea în timp, ajută alunecarea.
Poate este ok și fără...
