Thanks for this amazing video, I have a 965 too, it doesn't detect Chrome or metal tapes, when I push the connector, it comes up on the monitor but doesn't do anything when I put the actual tape. I also tried to record a tape the other day, and the main volume has a lot of noise. Another crazy thing it does is when I press the meter range, it activates the memory stop !! It may need cleaning, but I don't know how to get access to the behind those knows and buttons and don't want to damage anything.

I am going to replace the 4 pinch rollers and capstan rubber belts and the other drive belts on my TECHNICS RS-DV280.I hope that will fix the problem so i can start to record again.I bought my hi fi brand new nearly 20 years ago and have done lot's of recording.I have seen on you tube that there are some bad quality pinch rollers on the market,hope the ones i ordered are good quality. You have done a very good job

Do you recall if there are any fuses on the board? My 1240 powered up, then turned off. Tried power cord on other turntable and it worked fine.

Is their a fuse somewhere? Turned on my 8 yr old 1240 and power flashed on and never came back.

Great service man. I had mine serviced few years ago and now i need to service my Panasonic 965, wont go into play. rewind and fast forvard do work tho Not sure if it is a little cog again or something else on this one. Also, some buttons stick kinda and when pressing one ( like dolby B a dolby C or dbx or nothing would respond.... )....hope it is just a matter of cleaning

I had RS-B765 deck, just a model below. Single capstan and no dbx. Everything else the same. First the same gear cracked on mine. Managed to remove it and glue the shaft from outside and it worked for a few years. Then I stopped using it for the next 100 years and recently I tried but the first problem was to open the door. It would take a few attempts to open it (door itself wasn't stuck) and then all would work fine until the next time when I turn it on. Then it would take even more attempts to open the door. Once opened it would work fine again until the next time. Finally one day it refused to open it at all. So I pulled it apart to spray the micro switches and during this process the old cracked sprocket fell apart in pieces. In chase for a new sprocket I came across another RS-B765 for sale for €120. When I checked the deck before I paid for it, everything was working well. Got it home and guess what: the door wouldn't open immediately. Not quite the same fault because when I would press the open button it would turn on from tape to monitor display without opening the door. A few more clicks and it would open and then open/close function would work fine, but still switching from tape to monitor function. After a few operations everything would work fine. The microswitch for tape/monitor function is on the board behind the display and instead of spraying it with contact cleaner I was thinking of removing it from the board if that one is playing up. If that doesn't work then removing the open/close door switch and to manually activate the function with tweezers. But I have a feeling it is the IC controller playing up. Maybe a cold soldering point or some transistors or didoes change of value effecting the voltage to the IC... Or should just keep using it as is until complete dead. So it looks like this is a common problem with these models when they get old. However they are not that expensive second hand unlike this €15000 price tag for RS-B965 which is more than for some top Nakamichi second hand models. Technics were my favourite brand for all components, but they certainly were not the best. They just had a good price to quality ratio, but not the best, so I dont think you will sell it for that price. Good luck.

This is how cassette deck mechanism service should look like. Excellent job. I did the same for my Technics RS-B765 some time ago and it also works perfectly. One remark: The cassette sensor plastic case holder (black plastic part in 29:41) appears to be broken during sensor disassembly. I hope the deck recognizes tape types properly? I'm using ultrasonic cleaner for these 🙂

They are pieces of garbage. When connected to the same mixer as a Technics 1200.. not even plugged into AC - , my At1240 will exhibit distortion noise in the open phono channel while the technics 1200 will just exhibit an 'air' sound.

That is just crazy design when the source sound goes thru that big rusty connectors. Hate it. And they did it TWICE. First to the board and next to the pot. JVC did it right with long shaft to the back to the deck where the pot is sitting.

I have the exact same issue. I boght my w2700 back in 2020 and after just a couple of months i got the same split screen. To this day i have been going throgh many mails with my dealer, but sadly i have been treated like a liar. I have always updated to newest firmware... nothing. They now asked me to send the projector back again, so they can test if this is "a real thing". I have allready been given a new projector and it still has the issue! Now i want my money back but my dealer wants to test first and if its "true" he will do it. But im kinda sure that hes going to turn that thing on for about 10 Mins and then says: found nothing... will see. Sorry if my english is bad at some point.

38:19 Thanks for the closeup shots. I wish I could find an original supply roller arm for my 965... This does help getting an idea of how it looks if I were to try and 3D print one, although I will have to do it in separate pieces, and there is no guarantee it will work properly, especially the material...

I was preparing maybe to open mine up and insulate the transformer, as from what ive read thats the hum issue. I recently bought a pair brand new from audio technica. So ive put needle on the record, sound turned up really high, hit the on button and nothing, there is zero hum i can hear of. Not even a hint of feedback hum or anything. No complaints from me. So maybe Audio technica have addressed this issue?

That's what you'll always get with faux k dlp projectors, you should have just done the smart thing and stuck to a quality 1080p dlp projector instead, with proper native contrast and fantastic black levels!
