I’m literally in the process of doing this. My timing belt broke while driving today. Replacing water pump, timing belt, valves etc. I’ve had my neon for 18 years. This is the second time I’ve had to do the water pump and timing belt, first time timing belt braking. Water pump alone is a pain... add bent valves and I’m living the dream. Lol
Total cost of all repairs 250$ this includes all gaskets, valves, seats, seals, timing belt, and water pump. I also needed a tensioner pulley and the plastic housing for the timing belt/water pump, if not it would’ve been 70$ cheaper.
Knowing how to do it myself for free labor wise..... priceless

I bought a 2000 neon it ran fine but they never changed the water pump so my timing belt snapped bending all the valves ... I got it fixed eventually but that 1 dam valve you can hear its still bent going takatakataka XD but my head gasket started leaking recently so I need to replace it
Edit : removing the front tire gives you easier access to the tensioner

Dodge had the same engine from 95-05 all with known head gasket issues, they never fixed the core problem

I have an '04 neon. The headgasket is broken between cylinders 2 and 3. It runs but runs like shit. Was looking up the cost of replacement. Can someone rell me how parts cost $633? Like WTF?

Thanks guys! My Chrysler neon 2004 2.0L just shut off or stalled while off to town two weeks ago. It first had a rough idling and that clicking noise before it shocked as i drove to town. I thought that rough idling and clicking noise could have been caused by lifters. Could this be also a timing issue..?

It’s not that bad. Get the vehicle on stands. You have to take off a lot of parts, and all 4 motor mounts so you can raise and lower the engine to take certain bolts and parts out. Also need a pulley puller as well to get the crank pulley off. Takes about 3 to 4 hours at slow speed to replace. If you don’t really know what your doing it can really suck

Люблю эту машину...у меня их три штуки...два неон1 и один неон 2....вот только запчасти бы купить по мотору...мне в Россию трудно ..не знаю где ???интересно а можно купить на ebay....поршня и прочее для мотора ?????
