I can totally agree, I have had android devices for over ten years. I used to root my phones and add custom roms. However the 12 pro max is my first iphone. I just wanted to give it a try (Plus my wife , kids and a lot of my family are iPhone users ). I was surprised how well it works and how much I like it . I’m now I mid 40s and I don’t care as much about customizing. Just want it to work. You were spot on.

Your right man. The older I get the more I lean to Apple because of less customization. I like both Android and Apple but I went back to Apple with the 12 Pro Max and couldn’t be more satisfied. It just works. Also the little tweaks that Android doesn’t have like on Google Mail you can create a folder from your iPhone. You can’t do that on Androids GMail. For yahoo fantasy sports on iPhone it’s in Dark Mode on Android it’s not. Just those little tweaks!

Oof. This hits hard and true. I was a die hard android user. Customized everything from the launcher, unofficial rooted shortcuts, anything you could imagine I was in it. Then I started getting lazy on Samsung Galaxy devices and only changed things once every few months. Got to the point I felt like if I wasn’t going full tilt in customization I was wasting the potential.
Flash to the Note9 launch. It was too much like my Note8 so there wasn’t anything there for me. Then the Note10 lost the headphone jack along with every other android manufacturer. Then Samsung announced the 8-series galaxy devices would be stuck on Android 9.
Decision time. I could have gotten a OnePlus McClaren edition but that would only get MAYBE 3 years of support. Then I noticed my work sponsored iPhone 6s+ was 4 years old at that point and still being updated to the latest iOS.
Well, hell, if I’m over the whole maximum customization thing and the lack of extended support across the board, I may as well try out an iPhone. Figured if I get the least expensive newest model I wouldn’t be subject to the sunken cost fallacy and evaluate the device accordingly. If I liked it, I’d have at minimum 4 years of support compared to the 3 I got out of a more expensive Android phone. Then the ecosystem grabbed me and dragged me in.
2008-2019 - Android user, screw Apple products
September 2019 - bought base model iPhone 11 at launch out of curiosity
December 2019 - bought stainless steel Apple Watch series 4 from Swappa since my Galaxy watch wasn’t really doing me much good
January 2020 - bought AirPod Pros
February 2020 - bought iPad Air
WWDC 2020 - thinking maybe I want one of those M1 MacBooks 🤔
September 2020 - screw it, I’m an Apple fan now. I’ll give the 11 to one of the kids since they’re due for a new phone and I’ll get that sweet blue 12 Pro Max

    • @Otterplus

@@khakiswag that support means a lot and android devices trend to being nearly disposable. Without security updates using an older device opens the wrong kind of door. Technically if we break down the price of an iPhone versus any Android flagship over the course of "guaranteed support" the iPhone comes out cheaper per year. Granted, that's operating under the assumption someone keeps their phone that long.

    • @Rob165x
      @Rob165x 3 года назад +4

@@Otterplus That's what I keep trying to tell people, proprietary software support that well integrates with custom built hardware is more expensive than open-source software with hardware that gets shared across dozens of brands. Add update fragmentation because of manufacturers and carriers, fast depreciation...how much do you value those extra features? I mean if you want freedom, to use it more like a computer or workhorse and upgrade before the software feels too outdated then Android is the only option. iPhones aren't the most exciting products, but their focus on consistency and ease of use is really good; even if sometimes to their detriment (no high speed USB, no secondary authentication method, no sideloading [limited use], no expandable storage, etc etc). But you have to weigh the good vs the bad...and right now my applewatch and ipad 12.9 M1 along with icloud integration are very compelling...even my beats pro wireless and studio 3 are seamless.

It may be a while before I upgrade seeing I have the 12pro. That battery is ok but I know I’m going to be charging before the day is out. In some ways I miss my note because I know I could leave home without any other device and not have to feel like I was not going to be able to do laptop or tablet like stuff. I was also more confident in the battery lasting me at least until 10-11 at night. I know I’m going to have to charge up the pro before leaving work if I use it too much. It’s ok though seeing I can’t use it in the way I was using the android. I like the device integration more now on the iPhone as my memory is just not where it was. 😃 It’s easier to just put the phone down and use a the iPad to pick up where I left off seeing I’m watching more content when I get home.

    You've chosen convenience over enthusiasm.
When a person is young they are more likely to take risks. As that person grows older they are less likely to take risks because the mind tells them of the consequences. Which is great because as a dad I'm always worried that when my kids jump off of tables, I feel they will get hurt. But when I was young I jumped off of higher places and my parents yelling at me.
My point is it's not bad to ask for convenience but those who choose to be more riskier with their tech are also great.
You can buy a cup of cut pineapple for $3.99 a pound. You can also buy a whole pineapple for $3.99. Once you get used to eating cut fruit, going back to buying a fruit that you need to prep is very hard even though the cost of already cut fruit is higher.

Apps are not compatible with each other. Inside of the same OS. I have to do many more steps to perform one task. Or move back and forth from app to app in order to get things done.

I agree that Apple products work seamlessly and are very well built, however, I enjoy the customisation of Android products as well as the variety offered by different manufacturers. I am not a ‘young person’ either, I’m nearly 55. Android is just my preference. I agree with what you say regarding brand loyalty. It’s not about which is best, just which works better for the individual concerned. Great video.

Switched to Apple about 5 years ago and haven't looked back. Everything works seamlessly between my iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac Powerbook and iMac. No matter what device I'm on the Calendar, Notes, Reminders, Email, Photos, Files and more are there AND the interface is similar so it's very intuitive. I ditched Microsoft Office for Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. Yes, it does take some getting used to but it's FREE, included on all Apple devices and you can save as PDF or Microsoft format if you are sharing your files with a non-Apple user.

integration is unmatched between devices; perfect example is recently I needed my wife to sign on a pdf as a witness. I was surprised that one of the options I had and used was to read the contract on my Mac, selected to create a signature using my iPhone which it connected and my wife used my iPhone screen with her finger to sign. There was no pre-configuration or set up required; it just worked.

I went from the iPhone 5, to the Galaxy S5, then the S7, & then I switched back to the iPhone with the X S Max & then the 11 Pro Max. I had gotten an iPad Pro from my college in 2016, which I just upgraded last year for the 2020 11" iPad Pro. In between I got the second gen AirPods with the wireless charging case for my iPhone, & then I got the AirPods Pro with a college student deal when I got my iPad Pro. I didn't upgrade my iPhone last year but I'm now getting the 13 Pro Max. I don't have a MacBook yet atm. I have an HP Spectre x360 touchscreen convertible laptop with pen support since I got before the M1 MacBooks came out last year. I might consider getting a 14" MacBook in the future. Since I've got 4 Apple products that work well together that would make the most sense. But then part of me misses Android & makes me want to get a used flagship Android like the S10, S10+, or Note10+ to revisit Android since I haven't had one since 2018. Android phones work better with Microsoft especially Samsung Galaxy phones bc of their partnership with Microsoft. Samsung has actually managed to make their own ecosystem between their phones, smartwatches, wireless earbuds, tablets, laptops, & you could even include TVs in that ecosystem as well since they make so many TVs. If they could just match Apple's software rollout speed & longevity that would make them more compelling to more people. And they need more physical retail stores. I like both Apple & Android as you can tell lol. But investing in both ecosystems can be costly so it takes time to invest in both as a techie. I've grown up with Apple since my iPod Nano & iPod Touch which is what made me want to get an iPhone, but then the limitations of iOS then & some of the limitations that still exist make me want to get a used Android flagship from 1-2 years ago that still has really impressive specs that hold up well into 2021 & 2022. I'm glad that Samsung gives their devices 3-4 years of software updates now. That's a big improvement from before. Google as a whole needs to improve the software update rollout for all of the different Android brands & stop having carriers get in the way of that process

There is no denying Apple are slick at the eco system and even my car uses Android auto in a weird way to Apple CarPlay. I laughed so hard at the first part of the video. Especially at the “ You see, what had happened was…” part. That is exactly how I migrated into a complete Apple ecosystem of devices. The Apple ecosystem is what makes Apple so good. Everything just syncs and communicates with each other efficiently. In the end THAT is worth so much more to 99.9% of consumers than any bells and whistles.

I've had this dicussion with my friend who is a hardcore Samsung enthusiast (and another friend who works for Samsung), I just want convenience. I want my things to work and Apple's apps that sync across devices is just perfect. They're basic, I know there are better things but it's just the ease of use. I don't care for adding custom launchers, installing themes, sideloading, complete custom control. They're cool and useful features but I wasn't using them on my Samsung or my OnePlus phones. A cool and useful feature that I use every day with my MacBook and iPhone is Airdrop. My friend enjoys playing a Nintendo DS emulator on his Z Fold 3, and that's so frigging cool. I just have a different use. Idk some people seem to think that picking an iPhone over a Samsung or Pixel is dumb and uninformed. I prioritise convenience when it comes to my tools.

Hi! First time viewer on the channel. I’ve been plowing through a lot of apple videos recently and stumbled onto yours. I am an apple user. For context i work in IT and here in Sweden we are i believe the worlds 1st os 2nd iPhone users per capita in the world. 85% of businesses use iPhones. Of my friends only a fraction use android devices. I have used iPhone since its international introduction in 2008 with the iPhone 3G. I used to use a PC but switched to Mac and used a Mac exclusively between 20010-2017 when i switched back to PC again for work purposes. I work a lot with Microsoft cloud services and device management on the daily and wanted the tightest of integration into Microsoft’s services for work. I also switched my private devices to PC and the Surface line. For educational purposes I’ve used androids too but not as my main device. BUT i switched sides for about a year having the Samsung S10e as my daily. Did NOT like it. So i ditched it for an iPhone 8 Plus and then grew my apple ecosystem with an Apple Watch, an iPad Pro a HomePod mini and most recently an M1 MBA. Of course I’ve had the Apple TV throughout and upgraded to the latest and greatest just 2 months ago. Compared to 2010 the Apple ecosystem is more useful and integrated than ever. I have a hard time seeing myself ever switching. I like it here. Everything, taken with a grain of salt, just works, most of the time. I do combine my apple home with SONOS speakers but i miss CarPlay in my Tesla… It’s NOT the devices themselves that make me want to stay, but the combination of them, the REAL product Apple sells. The ecosystem

I started with iPhone 3, 3GS, 4. Then Samsung released the Note 2…and it compelled me to switch to Samsung. Note 3, Note 4, S9 plus… then, the iPhone 11 captured my attention…mainly for the camera and video recording quality. Bought the S21 Ultra, bought the iPhone 13 pro max. There are things I love and hate about both, honestly. Android has a much better file system and default music player. iPhone has some killer apps like LumaFusion and amazing video shooting quality. It’s a frustrating choice. Love the m1 macs though, since I tend to game on console not PC.

My 6S Plus worked stellar for years. Never changed the battery as well. Just kept it in the charger when the battery eventually dropped below spec. The charging port went south as well I guess to more than 3,000 ingress and egress of the lightning plug. Finally stepped up to an iPhone 13 PM 512gb. Yes it’s a high spec device but to me just a nice evolution of technology I was already used too. It synced to my 2018 iPad Pro and my 2014 MBP. Seamless integration. Finally looked at my automatic watch collection and said “hey let’s try something new”, then pre ordered a Apple Watch 7. The Apple ecosystem plain outright works without fail. And at 54 y.o. that to me is the only thing that matters.

Fantastic insight and hits the nail on the head with my thoughts also. I've always had an iPhone and switched to Android almost 3 years ago and got the Galaxy S10+. No doubt a great phone but the reality is I'm 48yo and the novelty of customisation and all the features Android have to offer have worn off. I don't use the phone to anywhere near its capacity. But what really hit home was that my kids, family and work colleagues all use the iPhone. It's just makes more sense as the experience connecting with everyone on the iPhone will just be simpler and more enjoyable. Which is why I am now waiting (impatiently ☺) for my new IPhone 13 Pro to arrive!

Started in a similar fashion Travis! I was an Android user for over 10 years. Even (still) have a 2013 Google Chromebook (made of aluminum and originally $1500 bucks new…basically as close to a MacBook your gonna get this side of Android)
Started getting bored of rooting androids and custom roms, and always having SOME sort of issue. Something wouldn’t work right. Or at all. Wanted something different. Went from a OnePlus 7 pro to a XS Max. Liked it, so next came the Apple Watch. Then an upgrade to an 11 pro max. Then air pods. Then the iPad Pro 12.9 inch. Now I’m about to upgrade to the 14 pro max, and looking for a cheap and inexpensive MacBook for basic use. Yes I still have a soft spot in my heart for google, but I can’t ever really see myself switching sides again. The UI experience to me is on another level compared to Android, and when you have multiple devices, everything seamlessly integrates LIGHT YEARS better than it does with Android devices. Once your in an ecosystem, regardless of which side, it’s hard to get out, walled garden or not.

I couldn’t agree more. I used to be a big time Apple hater and used to always lament the perceived lack of features in iPhones. Eventually I became tempted to give the iPhone 4S a try but eventually switched back to Android. Around 2012 a colleague let me used his MacBook Pro (to run Windows) and I was hooked. I realized through using the iPhone that I stopped caring about niche features that I didn’t use in my day to day routine. I spent most of time using iTunes, iMessage, social media apps, and the camera. All things that apple has mastered. Years later, I am sometimes tempted to try something new but am usually reminded immediately as to why it wouldn’t be a good choice for me to switch (too much segmentation, inferior battery life, lack of updates, no iMessage or FaceTime, etc).

    Travis,
Thank you for that thoughtful video. I too, was a longtime user of Android, starting with the Samsung Galaxy S. I so looked on Apple with disdain due to their lack of customisation. After going through a Pixel 3 (loved vanilla Andorid and regular updates). Then a Galaxy S8+ came next. Hated Samsung's duplication of apps already available in Android, I mean, WTF? It's like reinventing the wheel or something. If someone is using Gmail and Google Calendar already, why would they switch to Samsung's version?
But I digress. The last and final straw that broke my Android smartphone using back was my LG V-60. Do have it orphaned after only a year's ownership really hurt. And then, it started rebooting itself down for no particular reason. And then it started shutting itself down after ten minutes on standby (not overheating or anything like that). Needless to say, I looked to other possibilities.
Never an Apple fan, I'd bought a Mac Mini last year (and loved it), after my finicky PC kept crashing on me. Love the new Mac--so reliable. I should mention I also have a Chromebook (wish I had bought a MacBook instead but couldn't afford it at the time). I hate my Chromebook. It is a top of the line convertible model (two years old) with the ability to draw and sketch on it as well (one of the reasons I bought it). However, it is so slow to boot, and the rotation so slow to change its orientation when I change the angle I am drawing at, it's just sad. I should mention I also had a Samsung Gear S3 watch with my S8+ which was a lot of fun. But now, I can't wait until I can afford my first iPad Air, MacBook Air, and of course, an Apple Watch.
So thanks so much once again, Travis, for your inciteful video and no-hold-barred honesty. It is greatly appreciated. And yes, I liked and subscribed already. :-)

I will say this. I had the Note 5 & now I have the Note 10+ and my phone never froze up. And yeah, Apple was ahead of everybody in the beginning, but now Samsung eco system is almost perfect. When I got my tablets, all I had to do was login and everything transferred to my tablets even all my passwords. With the samsung eco system, I would never switch to Apple at all!!

Had the MacBook but was always an android user. Then a few months ago my note 9 stopped holding charge and decided to get the iPhone 13. Now I have the iPhone MacBook AirPods and the iPad. This year I kinda hit that slope you were talking about

At least you and I can agree about using what works best for each. I hate how people on both sides can be condescending towards each another over individual choices. I'm an Android user. I work at a tech company. When customers ask for recommendations on phones or tablet, I never just try to point to Android because that's what I use. I connect them to what I think will work best for their needs.

All my friends have Samsung and I did till I got this iPhone 12.. love both but seems iPhone is easier to use! I love CarPlay but android auto is a pain. One reason why I went back to iPhone ! Keep up the good work Travis! I love watching your videos

Similar situation, from a long time android / Microsoft user. My laptop crapped out 2 yrs ago so I finally decided to try a MacBook. Damn! I hate that I liked it much better. Then a year later, I decided to try a tablet again & after a not-so-gr8 experience with Samsung android, I tried an ipad. Shit! I'm hooked. They work so well together. Everything Travis describes. And now my wife & I are ready to get rid of these Samsung Note 9 phones. We decided to go with the iPhone 13 Pro Max (wife with the 13 Pro *smaller hands*), so they are expected to arrive this coming week. I'm a bit nervous, but I'm very optimistic. In 3-4 years, our iphones will be worth much more on a trade-in than the latest Samsung phones would be.

10/10 on this video Travis, you hit everything that was my reason to switch initially too. and I switched when Android still had amazing, mind blowing features.

I’m in the same boat my man. I’ve had a iPhone XR for nearly 3 years now. iPad and air pods as gifts. It’s just damn good

I don't get it why most of youtubers talking about customization like major difference between iPhone and android phone??? Today with little bit more effort you can customize decently your iPhone too. The difference is freedom, all what you can do with android and you can't with iPhone and features. Not icon shapes or colors

Thank you sir. This video sold me on using my next upgrade to change from Android to Apple. I used to do all the fancy stuff with Galaxy/Note phones. Like you said, cell phones are tools. I just need for to work.

I can relate to how you got pulled in. I went from a G3 slide to iPhone 6. Now I’m apart of the Dark Side 100 percent with literally everything Apple…

Totally agree! Apple just makes thing so much easier. I fell on the same path of owning a IPhone, then IPad, AirPods, and now an older version of the laptop pro version. It just works! Had android but I don’t see myself going back to that ever! Great video!👍👍

Ever since I bought a MacBook Air M1, I knew this was the better ecosystem for my current needs (video/photo/office). I used to build PC rigs from scratch and overclock my cpus for gaming, but those days are long gone. I have been using a Pixel 2 XL for over four years, but now I ordered the iPhone 13 Pro Max. I want to work in an ecosystem that is well built, just works and most importantly is deeply interconnected. I don't want to hassle around with different plattforms and clunky synchronization anymore. I hope I did the right thing. :)
