    Again, the Garrett Pro-Pointer proves out, and is the standard by which others are judged. I love my Garrett, and I have had both the Minelab Pro-Find 30 and the XP MI-6. I come back to the Garrett and its simplicity, accuracy, and longevity! By the way...My Pro-Find 30 had the same issue with the runaway tone as did your PF 40! I had to turn it off and on and did a factory reset a number of times. Also checked the battery as did you, and the battery was not the issue. So there appears to be a common issue...

      Learning the complexity of a new metal detector is one thing, but a pin pointer serves such a basic function, there’s no reason to jump through so many hoops. You should be able to turn it on & use it. I agree, the Garrett carrot is unmatched. Thanks for watching my friend 👍

    Thank you for taking the time to do the field test. I was really hoping it turned out different when you mentioned the ability to determine between ferrous and non ferrous target. I have a sun ray probe on my e-trac that does that.. It would be great to have a pinpointer with that feature for my other detectors.

    I emailed Minelab Customer Care about this issue this morning. I have the Pro-find 40 as well and had this same issue a couple days ago.
    Their response was,
    "The Pro-Find 40 can behave oddly sometimes I must admit, but it does allow you to correct this by single pressing the power button while the unit is on to re-tune it and zero it out.
    All you should have to do is point it away from any metal or any signal that would cause it to beep, then press the power button and it will re-calibrate to its environment. If this doesn't take care of the issue, a factory reset can also be accomplished on this unit. From power off, hold the power button for approximately 10 seconds and it will factory reset."
    I know you tried the factory reset in the video; I have not had an opportunity to try this procedure as of yet. I just read their response this afternoon and it's 50 degrees outside and raining today. so... I hope this helps... Happy Hunting!!

      @@NcDirtHunter Hello Sir, (I don't know your name) I was able to get out yesterday and I found that if you hold the tip to the ground when turning it on, that seems to help minimize the quirky constant beeping, I think it might ground balance the 40, I don't know for sure... Also, I did have it go haywire on one occasion (I must not have GB'd it) so I pushed the power button quickly, one time and it stopped the beeping. It seemed to work fine for me that way. Not sure if you will have the same results. I hope this helps. Happy Hunting!!

    • @NcDirtHunter
      @NcDirtHunter  Год назад +3

      Yeah, unfortunately that wasn’t the issue. Our soil isn’t mineralized at all, and is practically sand. I used that and other techniques to get it to work right, with no success. It also wouldn’t explain why it was silent when so close to targets still in the soil. Too many reviews that are basically “air tests” at home.
      To be fair, I still don’t dismiss the possibility that this one was just defective 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @nerdtowncity5930
    @nerdtowncity5930 5 месяцев назад +3

    The issue with this pinpoint 40 is that it needed to be reset. You just need to, while it’s on, press the power button one time and point it to the air away from another metal. It resets the distance. I have both and the only difference is is that the carrot constantly hits targets at about 3 inches while the minelab is about 2.5inches.

    • @NcDirtHunter
      @NcDirtHunter  5 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately, I went through the whole reset process several times, and it didn’t help. I was disappointed, because I love Minelab machines. Seems that a lot of people have experienced the same issue. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Thank you for commenting 👍

    Part of your problem with the Minelab sensitivity variations may be that you are testing to see if it is working immediately after turning power on. It takes a couple of seconds to balance. Wait 2 seconds after power on before bringing near any metal objects to avoid loss in sensitivity.

    Unfortunately it seems this unit was not functioning as intended which invalidates any testing you performed. The alarm going off multiple times is a clear indicator that something is wrong. I would have liked to see that you contact Minelab and find out what the deal is and/or tested a replacement Pro-Find 40 and filled us in at the end with some kind of an explanation.
    I'm always wary of people testing items they haven't spent considerable time with and thoroughly worked out all the details and this is a perfect example why.

    I have been searching for a decent pinpointer for years. Here's a twist in regards to your test...I had a Garrett like yours and it worked great until it just went crazy and started going off as soon as you turned it on. I have all Minelab as well (Etrac and Nox 800) and have used other Minelab pinpointers with mixed results. I was really hoping you would have good luck with that new one as I was thinking about getting one. Maybe not now. Sometimes I wonder how much actual quality control that the manufacturers do on their pinpointers. There sure seems to be a lot of lemons out there of all makes.

      @NcDirtHunter my 35 sucks too though. I've had it for 3.5 - 4 years and I recently discovered the housing has cracked in 4 or 5 different spots (where battery cap is and seal) and the thing is, I've barely used it, so it's not from "use" it's just from age and poor QC by minelab. It still works, but I won't be able to use it in the water now, or the beach in general because sand will get into the area too I'm guessing. And its a bummer because I wanted to use my nox soon for some beach hunting. I bought it for mainly Parks fields and the beach, like I said, barely used... used it more on the occasion when ive looked for gold and hit a deep target I know isn't gold and can locate with it in the bigger holes, but it's been taken care of hasn't been knocked around or anything. When I discovered the cracks I knew it wasn't anything I'd done. I'm going to just run it into the ground seeing as it's already busted to some extent.
      Definitely going to buy a garrett AT pro, the reviews look good and so many people back it up as the best they've had. The other annoying thing is my 35 cracking issue isn't covered by warranty either because it's past 3 years. Not sure but the warranty might only be 2 years for the pin pointers, the same as coils. But from watching this review, it seemed like the 40s sensitivity didn't change from 1 to 5 whereas on the 34 I think it's 1-4 and you can notice the difference and I swear it'd get that coin on max sensitivity at twice the distance the 40 could. Just doesent seem right. Why would they bring out a product that's worse than the last. And I swear I've seen a review of one that works well (sensitivity wise) but seeing it make all of that noise is one thing I hated with the 35 so if they havnt fixed that issue then who knows what else they didn't fix or didn't account for on the new model. I mean the housing design does look different but who knows, it might have the same cracking problem my 35 has. Time will tell for the people who've bought one. I also heard they leak. So there's two problems (leaking and noisy) that are apparent and also the possibility you score a dud like in your case AND the cracking might occur after 3 or 4 years. It's a NO from me.

      You can hammer nails with the Garrett Carrot (don't try that, lol). I haven't found a comparison. I think it's a gimmick to have different tones for iron on a pinpointer, that's what a detector is for. Once you're down in the hole, you've already committed to digging whatever is in there. There are a lot of opinions, and differences with metal detectors, but I really don't think there are with pinpointers. In my opinion, the Garrett is #1. Now, don't get me started on their metal detectors, because I'll make some people mad, LOL
