  • OK, "affordable" in the world of mountain biking is a bit of a misleading term. But in terms of aluminum, all-mountain bikes that can handle a lot without totally breaking the bank, the Ibis Ripmo AF and the YT Jeffsy are both great options. So how do they compare? That's what we're going to find out.
    Specifically, we're comparing a 2020 YT Jeffsy Base with a 2021 Ibis Ripmo AF Deore build.
    Each bike does have a parts upgrade from the stock build, though: the Jeffsy has a GX shifter and derailleur (rather than SX), and the Ripmo as a PNW components dropper and lever (rather than the stock one).
    In this video, I'm just looking at how they compare on paper and running some basic tests in my backyard. But this is just the beginning, so stay tuned.

    How do the stack numbers compare? Looks like the Ripmo has a taller stack which could explain it having more pop and better jumping and dropping.

      Good question, and you are correct. In size L, Ripmo AF stack is 12mm higher.

    I been riding a V1 Carbon Ripmo for over a year now and had a Ripley previously.
    I'm curious to know how the Ripmo AF climbs compared to the Jeffsey. I'm assuming the Jeffsey
    is Carbon? Thanks.

      The Jeffsy is aluminum also. In terms of climbing they're pretty comparable, the ripmo af might be slightly better but if you don't ride them back to back I doubt you'd notice a difference

    How do you think the YT jeffsy core four would compare to the ripmo AF

    • @CharlieWentOutside
      @CharlieWentOutside  Месяц назад +1

      I would imagine it's similar, but hard to say as the current Jeffsy is different from the 2020 version I'm riding in this video. Core 4 is carbon though, so probably better to compare to the regular ripmo, which is on sale for about the same price. Both are great bikes.

    I understand the test and why you think they should be compared, but price-wise they are so far apart that nobody will really chose between these two bikes.
    In the tallest size (I ride an XXL Jeffsy) the Jeffsy is the bigger bike by the way and if you stick a 160mm fork in the Jeffsy, the angles and reach will be pretty much spot-on with the Ibis Ripmo ;o)

      They're not that far apart, price-wise. The cheapest current model Jeffsy (Core 2, the aluminum one) is $3,000. Ripmo AF is $3,400. I think a $400 price difference is well within the range of what people would be choosing between.

      (& it's actually a $300 price difference if YT is still charging $100 for shipping, I forget to check that but I think that's what I paid last year)

      @@CharlieWentOutside yeah, but yours is the 2020 model at 2300 USD with the Yard fork and Deluxe suspension. There was a delta of 1000 USD between the two bikes.
      The 2021 Jeffsy comes with a very different suspension and fork from yours.
      But I will admit that the Ibis Ripmo has always been "That Other Bike" for me, so I find this comparison of yours very interesting

    • @CharlieWentOutside
      @CharlieWentOutside  3 года назад +2

      @@ShitStefanShoots $2400 usd shipped, and if we're going by 2020 prices then the Ripmo is $3200, so the difference is still under $1K which is larger but I think still puts them well within the range of two bikes someone might be choosing between. Although I suppose it's kind of a moot point since at this point nobody who hasn't already ordered it is getting a new bike in the next year...
