- KRON-TV News footage from October 31st 1970 featuring an interview with journalist Paul Avery (1934-2000), who has just received a Halloween card from the Zodiac killer, mailed to the offices of the San Francisco Chronicle on October 27th. Even though this card included the phrase: "Peek a boo you are doomed" Avery states that: "I think that the Zodiac is just making an idle threat ... I think he wanted to get himself a little publicity." When the Ch.4 reporter asks: "What kind of a person do you think the Zodiac is?" Avery goes on to provide a basic character assessment of this already notorious murderer: "Well obviously [he's] a very sick person ... He's very cunning too. He's not a brilliant man but he's certainly, he certainly isn't dumb. I think he's got a kind of a shrewd, animal cunning to him. And of course there's a great sickness in there that prompts him to go out and kill." Note that according to the original Ch.5 KPIX-TV shot logs, they also interviewed Avery about this Zodiac correspondence on the same day but that 16mm newsfilm reel is currently missing.
"Paul, you did call him a latent homosexual in at least one of your articles."
This is the first time I've seen the 'real' Paul Avery. No where near as eccentric as the movie made him out to be.
Well just only in one interview you can’t see his behaviour in his personal life.

This is just one interview though, and at a very tense time for him after he was contacted and threatened by the Zodiac - he really did get a gun permit from the police afterwards.
Looking at other, more peaceful photographs of him, he did dress pretty distinctive even for that period.

Woof, Paul was only 36 at the time of this interview but he smoking/drinking very heavily and he looks like he's in his late 40s.
@crezman friends grandma smoked two packs of lucky strike a day for 50 years she is 92 now in perfect health. So it damn sure don’t effect everyone the same. Also drugs do not age you it’s the careless lifestyle people partake in which do that.

@@waltersobchak7275 nope it's just some exceptions as always .. like if u take 1000 people who smoke daily and 1000 that Don't ..am 100 percent sure on average non smokers will be more healthy that doesn't mean the following case cannot happen-(one non smoker dies in 50's whereas one smoker is still in her late 90's)... it's the average that matters
@@karunm4603 okay buddy have it your way. Cigarettes are different nowadays. Different preservatives in the tobacco that are more detrimental to one’s health. If you can find an old pack of unopened smokes like on EBay. Run the tobacco through a GCMS and do the same with current day smokes. Tell me what you find. I already know. Organic chemist by trade.

from the movie, i'm convinced its arthur leigh allen, the boots, the watch, being ambidextrous, in and out of jail, telling someone on the inside about some of the things, assuming it's all true (him telling it to someone could be a false report as they quoted the newspaper exactly) then it must be him
@S Games26 i've actually just been reading about their encounter and as i read this exact part from Robert Graysmith i got your notification "To use the symbol ... to wear that watch, and to be at the crime scenes and to know the victims ... he would have to be the Zodiac." there's just too many coincidences for it to not be him, obviously there was nothing concrete to charge him for those unfortunate murders but i think it's enough for people to know it was him yk
@S Games26 i forgot about that one but yeah the complications of Allen's diabetes ruined his life to having to quit his job, rent the upper part of his house out, go legally blind and having a massive abscess on his foot which made it difficult to leave the house so atleast we can know that karma made sure his last days weren't easy, and i suspect that after Graysmiths book was released then Allen never got peace

The movie was fiction based off the lies of Robert Graysmith.
The Zodiac was a supervillain boogie-man character that the Hearst newspapers made-up just like they did for the ripper back in 1888.
Arthur Leigh Allen was on parole and under surveillance. He could not spit on the side walk without violating parole and going back to prison.
