I don't understand that mentality. When a woman tells a man no. Their mind thinks 'oh she wants you to try harder.' As a woman, when I didn't return a male friends feelings I meant it.
You don't represent your entire gender. I'm the same as you, to me no is no. Yet, I've met many women who said things like "why didn't you try harder?" or "are you gay?" when I took them literally and moved on. There are entire cultures where the man is supposed to not take a no for an answer, Korean culture is one of them. Europeans, usually from the center or north of Europe, usually take the no literally. I've never heard of a German or Finn continuing advances after a no, though there are certainly exceptions. This cultural shock is natural in America since so many cultures mingle here, but it's easy to understand once you're exposed to other countries.
@@valken666 I must agree, I've came across females that have told me stories where they've used the famous line, why didn't you try harder, but the person they say that to is not usually a virtual stranger, its usually someone that they know, who then suddenly starts showing an interest romantically... I'm shocked about what you said regarding entire cultures having the belief that no does not mean no though... I didn't know that was a thing, I mean, how annoying must that be
@@DellaWatson-cz3mq I have no idea about it being shocking that entire countries are like this, I didn't immerse myself fully in those cultures to know what happens. I know that in Korea a woman will refuse a man for a good while before she accepts him, it's like a ritual for them or something like that. If both parties are expecting this, then perhaps they're in agreement, I don't know. Some western girls I heard complain a lot about dating males from countries like Japan, that they're very possessive, etc. But I would never have any interest in a female that thinks like this. In my opinion, it's a kind of mental illness. It also promotes rapist behavior in males. The women who said those phrases I mentioned weren't very close, just acquaintances who perhaps loved me from afar. Anyway, when a woman shows no interest in me I just leave, this "no means yes" culture is disgusting in my opinion.
Unfortunately, music and movies (among other things) teach us otherwise. I'm not making an excuse, but many boys (and perhaps not just boys!) are highly susceptible to that sort of thing, especially in the absence of any countervailing narrative.

Super good book on audible about this case. It's called, "if I can't have you: Susan Powell: Her mysterious disappearance and the death of her children. Highly recommend it!
@@StephanieHarlowe its authored by Gregg Olsen and Rebecca Morris. They must have had a lot of inside Intel cause the book is super indepth. But I cant remember if either was personally involved. I've been following the case for years and found this work really compelling.
90% of the things I watch on RUclips are true crime and things related. I have have a few favorite channels but I came across your videos about two weeks ago and your channel is now my absolute favorite! Your research and time taken to do these videos is incredible!
it happens more than you realize and most cases and times in close family relations and goes unnoticed most times until a child comes out/forward on them and why it's also so hard for an adult to believe the kid, because of the one doing it to them has been someone close and wouldn't ever believe it possible...these are the true psychos.
The letter from josh reminds me of an ex boyfriend of mine. When I enlisted in the Army and went to basic training he would send me letters calling me a bitch and unworthy of love and now that he had his “strong head” on his “strong shoulders” and that I was going to miss his “rise to success” and the blanket I made him from scratch and box full of letters with small gifts I’d left him weren’t enough. I broke up with him obviously. He was controlling and emotionally abusive and it was slowly edging to more physical abuse. If I didn’t want to get intimate he would kick me out of his parents house. I will never forget how liberating it was to get him out of my head and out of my life.
So sorry you had to deal with such an awful experience, ik this is from 2yrs ago but it broke my heart reading. Hope you are doing well in your life and so happy that you were able to liberate yourself!!! ❤️
Thank you for covering this case, Stephanie! This happened in my hometown when I was 17 years old and had heard the explosion when it happened. Such a sad case, still really wanting to know what he did to his beautiful wife so there can be as much closure, justice, and as much peace as possible.
How terrifying that must have been for you, especially at that age. I can't imagine hearing that and then finding out the unfathomable tragedy that happened to those innocent boys. 💔
This man couldn't control his wife,....he wouldn't have that,....very common, most men try at some level to control their wife in some way. The Morman religion is all about the control of women. The poligimist sector is about just prostituting women, control, and slave labor. 🤔🤔🤔
A lot of my guy friends mention that they don't understand why women seem to put up so many walls to men who wanna date them. Like, women seem kinda cold or closed off at first. Well, my friends, you can thank men like Josh. Entitled, overbearing, creepy, and sadly not the only one.
Rachel, you are right on the button, absolutely true....I used to be so scared of men when in high school because of all the stories, I grew up in the 70's, very bad things were going on in that decade...I did not date at all and boys used to get angry at me, or called me names like ice princess, but I was just afraid.
@@olasmith8132 Male logic: because getting angry at you and calling you names is really going to make you want to date them. (And then you’ve got Dr Logic above touting women to think logically 🤣) I’m sorry you (and many many others) have had to go through that. Perhaps a little empathy and understanding from males is needed rather than being spoken down to, lectured and told to “think logically”. Maybe then we can start to see other people as equals regardless of any differences (sex, race, religion etc)
I love how detailed and long your videos are. It really makes them stand out from the other true crime videos and by the time I’m done watching it feels like I read a book about the case
I can't get over the stalker & video recording abuse similarities with this & Alissa Turney case you covered. It gave me chills when you talked about the filming of her etc, & showed her at work... It immediately made me think of what torture Susan went through, it was so creepy.
"I watched the recent documentary, how much more could I learn? This will just be a rehash." Except it wasn't and you got so in depth about Josh and Steve. Damn. I very much look forward to the next ones.

Lauren Frank awww that means so much to me! Thank you! You should definitely follow your dreams if at all possible, but it’s a journey so it’s ok to start small ❤️
I am so glad you covered this case. You definitely did your research on the mormon church. I'm a former mormon. I live in utah and when Susan went missing, everyone knew Josh killed her. The first week of December is brutally cold. Plus a blizzard warning was in effect.People do camp in the winter here, but not with kids. The west valley police messed up with this case. They had way more than enough evidence to arrest him.
Why take such a shot at nuts? We really need to come up with a whole new word for the Powell family. That's definitely a family tree that should have been pulled up by the roots and have the surrounding area salted.
Any “religion”. Faith can change hearts, religion cannot. Religion is the surface practice. It’s not sufficient or fulfilling. It pleases only people. Religion is empty. Faith is the substance...
I noticed that a number of really twisted crimes highlighted in the media recently, have had patriarchal religion feature in the story. Ted Bundy, the 'Abducted in Plain Sight' documentary on Netflix, Elizabeth Smart and that Mormon bishop/doctor who killed his wife and tried to "return" his 4 youngest adopted children. Forbes featured an article on 'Abducted' and the role Mormonism played in both that case and Smart's case.
No, not any religion. We're not hearing about men who feel empowered to subjugate and dominate women because of their belief in Gaia or Zen Buddhism. Faith doesn't improve things. Genuinely and strongly believing in the dogma that tells you you're superior to women, more righteous, or will be rewarded in heaven for your actions can make things much worse.
Steph, I love you! I just got home from rehab, I wanted to get off suboxone. And here I am.. back home and I nearly screamed when I saw these new videos. These videos are helping me stay occupied. Rachael Shannon, Danelle Hallen, Stephanie Harlowe, Savana Brymer, and That Chapter are all amazingly talented people that have a way of telling horrible stories in a very caring, respectful, passionate way. Thank you!
Steve Powell is such a freaking pervert. The things he wrote makes my skin crawl, and the fact that he stole and scanned her personal photos and journal entries is absolutely disgusting. No wonder Josh felt so self important when his father felt he was entitled to his daughter in law's personal items to get off on his sick fantasy
You’re an amazing story teller. These ppl are so depraved I’m sick to my stomach. It terrifies me that I’ve come across ppl like this and come much to close to being a victim. I always wonder with Josh's obsessive record keeping and his social difficulties and laser-focussed interests whether he was on the spectrum or not. I don't mean this in a mean way, but it has always made so much sense to me.

Thanks for bringing attention to this case. Susan and the boys deserve it especially since they never got a chance for justice. There are so many upsetting cases but this one by far is the most devastating to me. The authorities really dropped the ball and so many things could have been done to solve her case and those precious little boys would still be alive today. Makes me get choked up just thinking about it. I'm going to need tissues to make it through this one. Really glad you are covering it, Stephanie.

@@NotMyChickieNuggies I totally agree. I think a lot of people confuse the LDS with the FLDS. Even though they both have the same origins, the FLDS is undeniably a cult while the LDS seems to have shunned the more problematic aspects of Mormonism that the FLDS leaned into.

i’m back here at these videos🥰 I have right temporal lobe epilepsy and my memory from the last few years has completely vanished. I’ve been listening to the book by Greg Olson called If I Can’t Have You. after about 75% into the book. i guess i didn’t read the full title correctly and missed the “a story of a missing women and the death of her children” At this point in the book, i had no idea the boys would end up killed. It was at that point i had a glimpse of thought were i said to myself ... ‘wait.. have i watch Stephanie’s videos on this already!???’ and fell into this weird déjà vu place where i had practically finished a book about a subject i had already spend about 3 hours learning about. The effort and time you put into your videos is astounding. Each one is like a documentary. You keep me engaged the whole time with the way you talk about the cases and the people involved, nothing is tedious or boring and everything feels relevant. I appreciate all the little details and anecdotes and points that you make an effort to highlight and when you link things together or talk about someone’s behaviour and think why that may be. Not only do you tell it in an engaging way, but you do it respectfully and don’t over dramatise. Your videos are some of the best on RUclips!

Super good book on audible about this case. It's called, "if I can't have you: Susan Powell: Her mysterious disappearance and the death of her children. Highly recommend it!
Chezhnian didn’t someone close to this case write that?
@@StephanieHarlowe its authored by Gregg Olsen and Rebecca Morris. They must have had a lot of inside Intel cause the book is super indepth. But I cant remember if either was personally involved. I've been following the case for years and found this work really compelling.
That book is SO informative. Heartbreaking but a good read.
90% of the things I watch on RUclips are true crime and things related. I have have a few favorite channels but I came across your videos about two weeks ago and your channel is now my absolute favorite! Your research and time taken to do these videos is incredible!
Living With Lex thank you so much! I’m so glad you found me!
Welcome to the family! Stephanie is the best 😁
its all about the madeline mccan vids
Living With Lex she’s unlike any other!
Living With Lex She does the best research.. Does anyone know how old Stephanie is?
The mother catches Josh and his brother “examining” Elena and she doesn’t send them to get help or get Elena away from them?
🤢🤢🤢Steve lusting after his own daughter wtffff freaking sicko
Yeah.. this dude had serious problems
it happens more than you realize and most cases and times in close family relations and goes unnoticed most times until a child comes out/forward on them and why it's also so hard for an adult to believe the kid, because of the one doing it to them has been someone close and wouldn't ever believe it possible...these are the true psychos.
🤮🤮🤮
Happens all the time.
@Paul Miller Most men including You do Not admit to that.
Good for you!!
No other true crime professional covers a case like you.
honestly.
Yes i thought i know every thing about a case till stephnie cover it then i realize i only know the basics
So true!!
That’s like men saying the same exact thing because of the sadistic manipulative women. They are NOT the rule. Think logically.
@@doctorhadland6510 domestiq abuse is extremely common so logically u have to be careful
They are so similar! It’s eerie!
"I watched the recent documentary, how much more could I learn? This will just be a rehash." Except it wasn't and you got so in depth about Josh and Steve. Damn. I very much look forward to the next ones.
I found you in October and watching your channel grow has been amazing! I am so proud of how far you have come.
Not only is your content super amazing but watching you become a full-time RUclipsr is so inspiring!
You make me want to make the most out of my days and follow what I love! Thanks Stephanie! (:
Lauren Frank awww that means so much to me! Thank you! You should definitely follow your dreams if at all possible, but it’s a journey so it’s ok to start small ❤️
I am so glad you covered this case. You definitely did your research on the mormon church. I'm a former mormon. I live in utah and when Susan went missing, everyone knew Josh killed her. The first week of December is brutally cold. Plus a blizzard warning was in effect.People do camp in the winter here, but not with kids. The west valley police messed up with this case. They had way more than enough evidence to arrest him.
So the dad, went to the daughter to cry about his crush on his daughter in law?! These people are nuts.
The whole damn family are nuts!!
After he was creepy with his daughter and attracted to her.
Why take such a shot at nuts? We really need to come up with a whole new word for the Powell family. That's definitely a family tree that should have been pulled up by the roots and have the surrounding area salted.
@@brotherj7328 into the chipper with the Powell’s 😂😂
This story also highlights perfectly the damaging effects patriarchal religion can have on already sick men.
Any “religion”. Faith can change hearts, religion cannot. Religion is the surface practice. It’s not sufficient or fulfilling. It pleases only people. Religion is empty. Faith is the substance...
@@glauvie Faith also causes people to do terrible things. Both are problematic.
@@glauvie "faith" can also make you talk out of your ass with no way to back it up. And act in ways that dont correspond to reality.
Just got here. Susan Powell. Alright I know what I'm in for with this one. Braced for impact.
I know, right. It's like the further in you get the more unbelievable it becomes
The Kidnap game sounds super legit. Just a little light criminal family fun! 🙄

The way you worded that made me chuckle... I know it's not funny but damn. 😂 Such a weird weird "game".
Steph, I love you! I just got home from rehab, I wanted to get off suboxone. And here I am.. back home and I nearly screamed when I saw these new videos. These videos are helping me stay occupied.
Stephanie, sincerely thank you for the amount of time and genuine effort you’ve put into these cases, each and every one.

Oh Stephanie, I'm so happy you're covering this! So disturbing and heartbreaking! 😭💔
I’m watching this for the second time and this may be my favorite video you’ve done. The way you tell the story and interject the sarcasm and quips with a straight face is genius.
if only the other guy pursuing Susan had succeeded.. everything would have been so different
I’m nearly done with the video and... my. Word. Steve and Josh Powell are delusional, insane men. 😳

Ok.... almost done. I'm grateful I have a great, NON-CREEPY father-in-law who is like a dad. Watching Steve Powell's videos of Susan, what he did with her stuff, the subtitles.... Ugh I'm so sick to my stomach. I knew it was bad.... but this is *insane* 😝

Don't forget his sister Alina and brother Michael.
I live close to this area and my sister worked at the store they shopped at in Puyallup. She said they are very different and you could always tell something wasn't right. Thanks for bringing attention to this case. Susan and the boys deserve it especially since they never got a chance for justice. I have watched everything I can on this and my heart goes out to her parents and Jennifer Graves. May Susan and her Sweet Angels rest in piece. They are never far from my thoughts.
