Man, this honestly takes mental fortitude. At least for me and my ilk, and I'm sure it affects most people to some degree. Especially stuff with sentimental value. I've gone through purges of my collections a few times and it's like pulling teeth, and more than half the time I end up backing out and changing my mind. The closest I've done to this type of purge was with my movie collection, and all I did there was get rid of the cases and put the discs into a couple of disc books in order to have them take up less space (keeping my favorite movies' cases and keeping them on the shelf). Even just throwing out those cases hurt. I salute your practicality and guts, John. It's no mean feat to do something like this.

Huge Alter Bridge fan here. You will be shocked to hear that they are very much still alive and well. Their overall sound has changed a bit over the years, but they have actually released SEVEN studio albums and are still going strong. They release a new album every 3 or so years, and their last one was in 2022 (Pawns & Kings). If the name Myles Kennedy rings a bell with anyone, that's because he was the lead singer on the Slash albums Apocalyptic Love and World on Fire in 2012 and 2014. Highly recommend those albums as well as Alter Bridge as a whole.

Devin Townsend is such a diverse musician. If you do want to try again i would recommend Deconstruction, Z2, Accelerated Evolution amongst others. He can span across all genres although i love his heavy stuff more. Absolute powerhouse live. So cool to see your diverse range of tastes. Some solid decisions in your collection ❤

Man, I gotta say, what an insane collection this is.. loved seeing a lot of great metal and rock acts in there. The Black Dahlia Murder, In Flames, Metallica, Katatonia, Agalloch, Children of Bodom, 10 Years, Tool, etc. I’m 19 years old and I’m currently collecting a whole load of cds as well as vinyl records (and even some cassettes), got probably 300+ albums in my collection at the moment, I’m not entirely sure, I lost complete track of it lol. But anyways, hope the best comes out of selling these for ya man, loving the content as always. 🤘🔥

Your nightwish takes brought me back to being 14 fr. I was OBSESSED. Was talking recently about how im convinced the public perception to the nightwish drama would be like,, a complete 180 from what i remember at the time if it were today. I remember me and my little goth friends on tumblr thinking his weird tarja angst songs were so ~ haunting and emotional ~ and the fact he didnt let it go was ~tragically beautiful~ (wtf were we ok😭) now its just,, yeah 'cringe and weird' is the perfect description, actually insane 😭😭😭
Honestly always really liked Floor. Swear she collabed with like everyone on symphonic metal and had bands of her own and i always enjoyed her work. Honestly just think she came in after all the good albums had already been written. Love hearing her live recordings of older nightwish songs to this day but the new stuff aint doing it for me. Idk not big on the newer writing.
    Once best album ngl x

I traveled to see Tool last year, ive had psychedelic experiences less intense than their live show, It was on the Fear Innocuculum tour and missed them on the 10,000 days tour so i knew i had to see them. The Pot absolutely destroyed live with everyone screaming along with Maynard. Brass against were supporting and were incredible.

This video is incredible, now I have the urge to dig out my old portable CD player & cycle through my old collection & my parents collection! I’ve only got about 10 or 15 in my collection since iPods became all the rage when I was about 9, but my parents have got a cool 150-200 CDs of all the music they played in my childhood to borrow. Thank you for the great video John!

Hey John, just because you mentioned Alter Bridge... they dropped a whole lot more albums, consistently every three years, latest one was released last year. They have some really good songs. Also Mark Tremonti got his solo project, can't recommend to listen to the stuff this guy is doing enough!

I still collect CD's actually, and though I'm only going for Deathmetal/Deathcore, I did a few months back pickup everything by Senses Fail since they're my favorite pop-punk band. There's something about physical media that makes me happy.
EDIT: Also to tack on, since I saw you have most of TBDM's albums, Rest in peace Trevor, such an amazing vocalist gone too soon.

4:08:28 of course you’re insightful, entertaining, and fun, John! I admit I skipped here from the description; “existential crisis” always piques my curiosity. It’s relatable. 😂
However, much as I love your presentation and such, I don’t have… {looks at total time} WOAH. Um. THAT many hours to watch. So, respectfully, I’ll refer to the Google sheet for the condensed version, but thank you for taking the time to present all these!!

I had a 1500+ CD collection, got my first 5 (Rush 's Fly By Night & Caress of Steel, Pink Floyd's A Collection of Great Dance Songs and the 2 CD set of the Fantasia Soundtrack. Yes, I'm eclectic) along with a Sony Walkman CD player in 1989. About 8 years ago I decided to pare most of it down to the essentials. Now I have about 300 and have just started sorting even more out. I went from a whole WALL of CDs to part of a bookcase. It's sad but cathartic.

I would happy sit here and watch an 11 hour video on his reviews of albums because he is genuinely great at reviewing things and I want to hear his thoughts on things.
