Half of 2023 passed, still seeing Ocean Blvd as the AOTY. A very emotionally potent, conceptual at best, honest, raw and spellbinding in the most Lana way.
It’s still aoty for me. So raw. And kintsugi is truly the best songwriting I heard all year. Comparing the healing from grief to kintsugi pottery is so so beautiful and brilliant. Definitely cried like 5 times to that song 😭

Some great albums! One of my comfort food albums of the year is Eluvium’s “(Whirring Marvels In) Consesus Reality”. It’s just unabashedly pretty and has a couple of high points that remind me of the best of Max Richter and Johann Johannsson. I know that corner of the music world doesn’t get much attention on here, I do enjoy occasional visits over there and I was impressed how Eluvium’s sound never quite falls into snappiness while being straightforwardly pretty imo

People need to mention Narrow Head more in general, underrated as fuck and so much more than the "shoegaze" genre they've been shoehorned into. That album is on my Spotify "Best Rock Albums of 2023" playlist, along with Foo Fighter's "But Here We Are", Queens of the Stone Age's "In Times New Roman", Swan Valley Heights "Terminal Forest", and All Them Witches' "Baker's Dozen" (artist playlist).

I love 12th House Rock anyways. Check out Bleed: some early days members of Narrow Head founded that group. "Somebody's Closer" is their only released EP so far. Money is also an upcoming band in the shoegaze genre. I'd say they still have a lot to improve but I'm enjoying their music so far. Drug Church is a project which is quite more near the hardcore punk genre, even though they're not really hardcore punk. Some songs slam like crazy though, I love the single "Bliss Out". Turnstile. One of my favorite bands of all time. I define them as "Accessible Hardcore Punk", not as heavy as Knocked Loose or Code Orange, but still quite heavy. They really managed to create their unique sound and vibes. Great artists. I hope you'll find some music that matches your taste!

Total opposite albums, but I loved the new Killer Mike album and the new Hot Mulligan album is the best pop punk/Midwest emo album since the new Mom Jeans album. Somehow Fantano is completely ignoring huge Midwest emo drops the pst few years.

I’m happy he gave King Gizzard a great review. Pitchfork absolutely ragged on it, and I think it’s their best (sounding) album to date. It’s so much more than satire and the playing is really mental.
This was a rare Pitchfork review that I actually found valid lmfao, sometimes the camp (especially wrt the vocals) outweighs the quality. Gila Monster, Dragon, and Flamethrower are all fire tho

This was a rare Pitchfork review that I actually found valid lmfao, sometimes the camp (especially wrt the vocals) outweighs the quality. Gila Monster, Dragon, and Flamethrower are all fire tho
@@zacharybeer9517 Thats why I prefer rats nest cause it doesn't lean too hard into the campiness and it's storyline + message is a bit clearer and to the point. Plus I prefer the songs they're leaner, meaner and more memorable.
When I listen to a band named, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard I expect some campiness and I love it
