Alone at Prom doesn’t deserve to be here. Sure it is capitalizing on a sound that is popular right now, but Tory had been planning this record since before the pandemic (and after hours). I think it’s a decent record at the very least in my opinion.

Okay, so the Tones and I album "Welcome To The Madhouse" sucks. Just a terrible, terrible album. Got it. Hmm. But what about the deluxe edition, Anthony? Because it's out there. And it's waiting for you.
Got curious and listened to “Lonely” by Tones and I and why does it sound like a song someone would sing as an original in America’s Got Talent and everyone would give a standing ovation after? Like especially after they learn about the singer’s past or situation lmao. The thought scares me lol.
Because when Aussies sell out to break in to the US it's usually just what Americans are doing already just kinda boring. King Gizz, Tame Impala, they got large overseas audiences by doing what they do and not trying to change it up for commercial purposes
The thought that someone can view a piece of music this subjectively without seeing that it affects people in a positive way scares me way more. Not saying that Tone and I is my absolute cup of tea but i can at least see a positive piece of music when I see one.
I am usually a fan of Fantano but his review of Alone at Prom is absolute trash. That was just a bunch of negative opinions with no actual breakdown or decent reasoning to support his criticism. Saying it sounds like the Weeknd just seems like a cop out and just a casual and lazy narrative.
While not quite as vicious as this takedown of Tones and I, his review of Eminem's "Revival" is hilarious throughout. He HATES the record and mocks it with every breath, it's great.

That song alone feels like a 10 to me but he rest of the album I would give like a 3-4 on average.
I honestly don’t think he even listened to alone at prom because besides them both being 80s inspired album’s they’re vastly different. The weekends production is way more modern with an all most angelic floating quality to it where lanez is more raw 80s synth pop with some modern r&b elements. The best way I see it is that AAP is an 80s flavored soda vs After Hours which is an 80s flavored la croix.

As much as the record probably deserves it, it'd be sad if the number one came out so early. I'm oddly curious to find out what could be worse than it, and I'm hoping Anthony will find something in the years to come. Don't know if that makes me a sadist, though.
it really sadens me that he thinks alone at prom was a 'bad' album.. if we take away from the fact that many people still think that he is 'copying' the weeknd.. you can actually begin to appreciate how good of an album it is and how talented tory lanez actually is. today's music industry is so judgemental towards you is copying others music.. an artist can only make so much music that sounds original.. every song in the world has inspiration from another artist.. alone at prom, when taken into consideration how well he formed the 80s look and vibe is actually an amazing album
Big agree. I'm no audio expert but I perceived the compressed sound to be an intentional, "vintagey" vegas kind of vibe? I can see not liking it but it doesn't seem like a mistake
I didn't hear Tori's album but I am so sick of hearing people claimed that 80s retro albums are automatically ripping off After Hours. Things can sound alike!!!!!!
Of course The Weeknd didn't make the 80s sounds, but After Hours very much made it's own tasteful modern twist vocally and production wise where Tory blatantly ripped off, especially The Weeknd's vocal style, and a lot of the songs are extremely reminiscent to what The Weeknd has been doing, like ballad of a badman which sounds eerely similar to blinding lights. I understand your viewpoint that just because some music takes inspiration from something doesn't automatically mean it should be brushed away, but what Anthony was arguing that I wholeheartedly agree with is that Tory served absolutely nothing in terms of personality or flavourfulness and didn't serve justice to the sound.
would love to mention the new yes record; there was no point in them releasing another album at this point over 50 years into their career and there's absolutely nothing new or interesting about it, and the production isn't great either. honestly the worst the band has ever sounded and i hope this is a sign for them to put an end to their already incredible and successful careers.
yeah, when i saw “the ice bridge” come out, i took a deep breath, put it on, and immediately started laughing hysterically after hearing that awful “le epic” synth that opened the song. i made a playlist called “this shit sucks” and only put that track on there. it was so overwhelmingly bad in a way i didn’t think was possible. they really are continuing just to continue and they sound literally awful. Jon Anderson has been replaced by a guy with a miraculously similar name and voice as if no one would notice the change and he looks like he is Jesus Christ’s forgotten and much less impressive little brother. the new bass player who i can’t even name sounds so out of place like he’s spent his entire life learning how to chug away without listening to a single bass line from anyone else ever. you can hear Alan White’s back split in half just a little bit more every time his drum stick hits something, praying someone will sub in for him like they do at their concerts now. geoff downes sounds like he is trying to parody his old band Asia with the absolute corniest keys sounds possible, and it makes you wonder why anyone ever bullied Rick Wakeman for wanting to be keyboard orchestra god. and Steve Howe sounds like he is just praying he survives til the end of the song without a finger snapping off. this band should have quite after Chris died, but god damn the guy said something like “the band should continue on forever like a symphony orchestra” before he died, which is probably the stupidest thing anyone has ever said, because clearly it’s not working out already and Steve Howe hasn’t even left yet. still, no one in the band is even an original member anymore. Steve Howe isn’t even one, the band started in 1968 and he joined in 1970 on like the third yes album. they should have just called it quits years back before they became the example of how aging will astronomically make your ability to make music well impossible. instead they are gonna keep going until they all die i guess, i don’t even know. honestly incredibly disappointing. could you tell that yes was at one point one of my favorite bands? i was a bit mean my bad.
I know it was released in 2020, but Deep Purple's newest record feels like the exact same thing to me. I just don't understand why they thought releasing it was a good idea.

He is being paid off by the labels to say this. It’s because the tide is shifting back in Tory favour
I understand your viewpoint that just because some music takes inspiration from something doesn't automatically mean it should be brushed away, but what Anthony was arguing that I wholeheartedly agree with is that Tory served absolutely nothing in terms of personality or flavourfulness and didn't serve justice to the sound.

yeah, when i saw “the ice bridge” come out, i took a deep breath, put it on, and immediately started laughing hysterically after hearing that awful “le epic” synth that opened the song. i made a playlist called “this shit sucks” and only put that track on there. it was so overwhelmingly bad in a way i didn’t think was possible. they really are continuing just to continue and they sound literally awful.

They got on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade once.
After allowing his fanbase to love women with two consecutive AOTYs and two 10s, he's allowing them to hate women again with the 0/WAOTY. Thank you Anthony, very cool.
It is very sexist to include women in this video. Anthony needs to apologise.
Rumours by Fleetwood Mac was released like 45 years ago, how is it on this list 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Continuing to post my picks for list week:
10. A Day To Remember - You're Welcome
9. Dax - Pain Paints Paintings
8. DJ Khaled - Khaled Khaled
7. Maroon 5 - Jordi
6. Hobo Johnson - The Revenge of Hobo Johnson
5. Florida Georgia Line - Life Rolls On
4. Sia - Music
3. Hobo Johnson - Hobo Johnson Alienates His Fanbase
2. White Banshee - White
1. Tougher Than Nails - Delusional Blasphemies Destroyed
Good list.
Pain Paints Paintings and Hobo Johnson's albums rule!
I'm surprised Tones and I is not on your list. I guess you haven't listened to it and if so, you've made a wise decision. I'm also really surprised Jordi by Maroon 5 was not on Fantano's list, but at the same time he only included it in a YUNO review and asked to pass when it came time to review it. Either he briefly listened to it or will just say it sucks without having listened to it, which I doubt.
yeah im happy for anyone who didnt listen to day to remember
YES that god damn tougher than nails record is not only worst record of the year but possibly the worst death metal album ive ever heard. I feel like it has to be ironic, like surely they had to have tried to make the most unlikeable album imaginable. Its message is hateful and not in a cool way at all, the mix is some of the worst ive ever heard, the vocals are absolutely grating, all the instruments are shittily programmed midi with no rhyme or reason, and every track is so mindnumbingly repetitive that it literally becomes an unlistenable drone
I'm an English teacher in France and I'm going to give my students this video to study in order to improve their commentary vocabulary.
As for my pick on the worst album, I don't usually buy bad albums but was VERY disappointed in the last Idles. Or I would pick any mainstream French rap my son is listening to.
What are the French rappers that your son likes? Trying to learn les argots and hopefully practice my listening from the french hip-hop world.
@@alxhpage I think Nekfeu or Orelsan are a good place to start, as they're still quite understandable and their lyrics have meaning. My son would agree but he's also into other stuff like Niño, ZKR, PLK, Koba La D... Another very popular one is Jul but even my son can't stand him !
Bieber was close to having the worst MLK inclusion this yeart, but also remember that Fortnite added him into the game and let you emote on him
My list:
10. ZillaKami - Dog Boy
9. Kacey Musgraves - star-crossed
8. Sleater-Kinney - Path of Wellness
7. Cheekface - Emphatically No
6. AJR - OK Orchestra
5. Greta Van Fleet - TBAGG
4. Coldplay - Music of the Spheres
3. Drake - Certified Lover Boy
2. Limp Bizkit - Still Sucks
1. My Morning Jacket - S/T (just the most boring psych-jam rock fodder ever)
Dishonorable Mentions:
Young Thug - Punk
Steven Wilson - The Future Bites
Lorde - Solar Power
Girl in Red - If I Could Make It Go Quiet
Bent Knee - Frosting
Hearing ‘Dance Monkey’ at work all the time is enough to get me feeling positively *_homicidal_* and customers are *_extremely_* lucky I’m as in control of my mental faculties as I am.

When I was a kid, I was convinced that new country music was propaganda to trick people into not expecting anything from life. I'm still not sure either way.
As someone who doesn’t hate all of AJRs music I can agree that OK orchestra was pretty bad. There were two pretty good songs on it tho
@@elephantcubed4133 yes bro Christmas in June is a spectacular song. I also like way less sad but the two I was talking about was Christmas in June and the trick
Guess I’m in the 2% that actually liked Kacey Musgraves’ Star-Crossed
me too
i think it’s her best album… i don’t know what Anthony is talking about
"❌ *(Dont read my name)* ❌" u
It was fine.
@@dontreadmypicture8003 that wasnt worth it
Phew, after that awful review he did of Golden Casket I'm glad he realises that it doesn't deserve worse album of the year, unlike Blink-182's nine which is not gonna age well
loved golden casket and was relieved to see it wasn't on here.
Golden Casket is actually my fave album of the year. It's not quite amazing or anything, but not a lot of good music came out this year.
Same that album grew on me quickly
@@frankrogers2968 “but not a lot of good music came out this year” Are you alright? That’s completely mad. Did you only listen to like 2 albums?
@@seventongues it was better than Strangers to Ourselves. It's not a 10/10 album, but it doesn't deserve the hate it's given.
i had the privilege of listening to Lil Huddy's new album this year and, holy shit, THAT is an album that deserves to be on this list
0:39 did you give the album a listen?
Alone at prom is a banger whatever you say, everybody is hating on Tory because he's not a generic and commercialized artist like everyone the music industry pushes these days... If Weeknd was to make these songs he would have been praised and not hated.
he’s hated for exactly being that lol tory has always been a copy cat with lil originality but now y’all think he’s a hero because of the meg situation
@@smartybabytv5547 no he hasn't. You sound ignorant asf
@@smartybabytv5547 And now that he's been convicted, the people defending him and his mediocre music look even worse.
You just hate this albums because they are bad
Even though most of them aren't.
Star-Crossed was nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be but it is her worst by a big margin.
I still love it tho 🤷
justin bieber and fortnite both now have one thing in common: inappropriately using MLKJ's legacy
The fact that u called alone at prom a rip-off of after hours just proved that u either didn’t listen to it, or ur just blatantly hating out of pure bias. The albums have 2 different sounds, 2 different vibes and aesthetics. Just cuz they’re both 80s inspired does not make it a copy. That’s like saying if future decided to make a lyrical miracle spiritual album he would be ripping off Kendrick. We get it, u don’t like Tory, you’ve said it in the past and made it very clear, but if ur not going to give fair reviews then don’t review at all.
"WWWAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH"
This clown is being paid by Roc nation to smear him
@@MakaveliG17C My dude I get your convictions but trust me dude calm down with the comments a bit 👍🏾
@@MakaveliG17C I see no other explanation. Especially with all the evidence that’s come out recently proving he’s innocent
@@Gurrr.201 he's hated Tory before the controversy
He just doesn't like him dude
weirdly happy to see Twenty One Pilots NOT here just because it just makes me sad. The record was pretty mediocre but we know they can do so much better. Sad to see Coldplay here but they totally deserve to, that album really was ass.
I wonder what it be like if AJR made an emo trap album
Noh my god
I sincerely don't understand how the Tones and I record is in any way popular. It's absolutely dreadful in every way. I don't know a single person who likes it at all.
My 5 and 6 year old niece and nephew love Tones and I. I learned that recently when they insisted I play "Dance Monkey" on repeat 5 times, and then Crazy Frog songs.
@@WinterReflections I know you're talking about your niece and nephew, but shit like that is one of, like, fifty reasons why I'm never having kids. You'll constantly be forced to listen to awful, awful music.
@@WinterReflections "Dance Monkey on repeat 5 times"
My condolences
@@WinterReflections how did u not whack them??
40 year old aussie mums love this shit
Forget 'Music' by Sia, for a brilliant soundtrack album by a band for a film check out 'Annette' by Sparks, so underrated!
Sia’s music for Vox Lux is far, far better than what she had on Music.
La Flamme Rouge by NxxxxxS was also one of my favorite OSTs this year.
Tory lanez ?! Theressss no fucking way !! This was one of my top 10 favorite albums this year
Im very confused… alone at prom is in your top 10 worst albums of 2021 but Sematary album is in your top 50 albums of 2021??? Please make it make sense 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
