The gift of democracy and 20 years of occupation brought significant challenges to Afghanistan. The previous governments in Afghanistan were marked by corruption and instability. Warlords, drug dealers, and mafia elements held positions of power within the government, leading to widespread lawlessness and insecurity. Even near the presidential palace, people were not safe and faced frequent robberies. During this dark period, kidnapping, land grabbing, and embezzlement of public funds were everyday occurrences. Bribery was rampant within governmental offices, further perpetuating a culture of corruption. The president lacked the authority to make meaningful changes, as the country was effectively controlled by powerful drug dealers and warlords. Police officers and military personnel often engaged in extortion, stopping individuals on the streets for money. Regrettably, drug abuse was pervasive among high school and university students, regardless of gender. Additionally, distressingly, there were training centers where women were taught how to engage in kidnapping activities. These circumstances were further exacerbated by the unfortunate support provided by Western countries to these unsavory individuals over the span of 20 years.
carry him carefully, he was a muslim? if he wasn't you would carry him recklessly? wtf Al Jazeera racist, discriminating, nothing new, islam touch islam destroy
It won't succeed, see with Pakistan seeing Afghanistan as its fundamental threat, with backing of British and the western countries on Pakistan side, Afghanistan 🇦🇫 has no friends or allies, the domestic division due to wars and Afghanistan waters flowing into neighbouring countries, as an Afghan I can say that Afghanistan is a perfect recipe for its neighbours and the regional powers to manipulate it to their interest use
@@zm9419 What? They fought and defeated the US-Led Coalition to protect their country. Before that they defeated the Soviet Union, don't make stupid comments they were invaded each time. They are now rebuilding despite all the sanctions lmao.
@fsdfsdfsd4561 Anyone that Pakistan don't like, it means that person is good for Afghanistan. Talibans are heroes of Pakistan so the rebuilding that they are doing are all the projects of previous government and presidents
I was a drug addict for over 30 years I lost my children and a wonderful wife due to my addiction. I destroyed my life in so many ways. Now I’m 52 years old and I been clean for 5 years. I have my own apartment and car and I’m slowly rebuilding a relationship with my kids. It hasn’t been easy but with Gods help it could be done.
What dignity? Sending them back out & nothings changed, no food= take opium; boredom=take opium, winter temps --20*c= take opium. These men are often worse off cos the few who have never touched drugs now have no family or jobs. It's a F....d situation no doubt but this is not helping them. Some speak the truth & others toady the Taliban while on film.
I've worked in substance abuse field for years in the USA. It's the most rewarding work. Hard work, but worth it. To see people change their lives around for the better, become healthier, and repair relationships, is just so beautiful. Watching the hopeless become hopeful, the scared become brave, and the uninterested become the most motivated. It's so beautiful. I've met some amazing and incredibly intelligent people. The stigma in the USA is that addicts are unintelligent criminals. I've met psychiatrists who were detoxing. Doctors who were detoxing, forensic scientists in rehab, teachers, CNAs, artists, bakers, police officers, fire fighters, so many people. People are more than their addictions. Addicts are not their addiction. It does not define who they are. Please be kind and help those in need. Narcan training is often free at local Healthcare facilities.
This isn't treatment. It is a brutal and deadly Russian roulette of who succumbs and doesn't to withdrawal. Those that actually survive then released with no coping skills, jobs only to re-enter their addiction with a massive rate of immediate overdose & death.
Great but sad documentary. The guy at the beginning who said the one thing worse than misery is poverty was spot on. 99% of the time people use drugs as a means of escape because they don’t like their life.
@@neerodenna Afghanistan is still the biggest supplier of opium, the Taliban say they are cracking down but it is the country's primary source of income. Many of the addicts aren't buying the drugs, they are taking what they can while they work the poppy fields.

After Watching this documentary I cant Control my tears I Salute to that Uncle Babrak for his selfless efforts to rebuild Afganistan in his own unique way. Kudous to Aljazeera they always make wonderful documentaries. Love and Dua from India....
You realize how hypocritic this is? They punish the Afghhan people in this "reha" Prisons and they dont get proper treatment. the State penalizes drugs to an extreme extent. At the same time heroine is one of the main exports of the Islamic afghan state.
I was a heroin addict for 18 years and this video made me cry. I felt their pain and it breaks my heart to know that my own country is the cause of the worst of the world's problems 😢
34:09 Babrek is hero. Even tho he’s not writing off the fact that the country has a economy problems, he’s still trying to tell them to be responsible of your actions. What a guy. The world should help this guy.
Your prayers won‘t help this people. They experience extreme poverty on a daily basis. They need investments in education, health care (especially mental health care) and infrastructure. The society desperately needs a social security net. The ultra-rich Arab countries need to stop building mosques around the world, we have enough of those - they need to invest in Afghanistan. But there is a huge problem: Taliban. Taliban are religious fundamentalists, they have no idea how to govern a country.
you should respect all religious beliefs: christians, jews, buddhists, induists, taoists, confucianists, sikhs, shintoists, animists, atheists... you're not a supremacist religion, respect the others
I started doing drugs since my teenage, got addicted to heroin. Spent my whole life fighting heroin addiction. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my mom recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. This is something that really need to be use globally to help people with related health challenges.
Amen God bless people. Save your health save your mind. Life is better without heroin, cocaine, alcohol and cigarettes. And you have more money in your pocket. God bless everyone who has rejected the devils intentions to be addicted to alcohol and cigarettes etc which can cause so much damage to health.
Can you help me with the reliable source 🙏. I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Australia. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them.
YES very sure of Dr.alishrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
I'm really happy for you that your mom decided to help you...I hear about alot of family members or so called friends shutting an addict out of their life, which since most addicts do it to mask emotions to me is the worse thing someone can do to an addict.
Such a great documentary, I couldn't stop watching it till the end, feel sorry for our neighboring brothers and their economic conditions but the courage of some people who are running this rehab is beyond words to do justice to their honest fight against this drug addiction.

This is one of the best heartfelt documentaries Ive seen in quite some time. I admire the time and sacrifice the Babrak have given to each survivor to ensure their recovery and give them a chance to reintegrate back into society.
May god never let you have to deal with addiction. Even science has started acknowlede this part as being illness. Did you know in video they are addressed as patients.
Comment to the gentleman that used to be an addict and now works with addicts: The man wasn't blaming. He was explaining what incidents led him to drugs. War causes many people to become addicts. One thing I learned in 20 years of counseling is never to discount anyone's feelings. I am a female military veteran. I was addicted for 25yrs to opiates.
I agree. Babrak was probably covering for the Government. The addict in question is entirely correct. Babrak is the one talking about hope and responsibility. He's got a good NGO/Government job.
@@frostystoneman3273 Hi frosty, I don't think Babrak was covering for the govt. I think he was trying to teach them accountability for thier actions. Of course you are right, thier Goverment and country is in shambles because of the war and its not the addicts fault. I think Babrak was trying to get them to change angles on the problem and foucus on what they can change and not foucus on things that are out of thier control. 😃
When you don't have a problem and you take drugs that's when you know you're in trouble you take it without a problem whether you are that's not right when you take it and you got a problem least you know why you're taking it
Didn't think I would, but I watched it all intently. Provoking, heart breaking, but also a strong sense of brotherly love. Uncle Babrak is doing great work with limited resources. I sincerely hope these people can find a path without drug addiction going forward.
@@jakobaa9031yeah lil rehab got like 9 times before the person overdose and talking about it in a circle sure helps Your looking down in them like it’s backwards but tough love to safe someone’s life doesn’t hurt either Also you def are American 😂 Lowest intelligence that critiques all 😂
I was a herion addict, and its amazing to see the struggle they have in their country. We have all the help, support and medication to help. They have no medication just strenth and endurance. I wish them all the best.
You are giving these men back their dignity. God bless you and God bless every one of them and their families. What an important difference you are making in this world.
I'm Australian and spent some time hiking in the north of Afghanistan back in 2018, such a beautiful country with an amazing culture. This documentary saddens me, and I wish Afghanistan a brighter future. The man talking on top of the bunk bed spoke some truths. The population is living in poverty, uneducated, no jobs and no future. Education is key to bringing a nation out of poverty and I hope the Taliban realise this and implement schools in all regions of Afghanistan. I wish Afghanistan all the best and would love to go back in the near future!
Unfortunately they are engrossed in the externals - moral policing. Real education that spurs economy, jobs etc are not a priority...heaven is. There is a saying - so heavenly minded that one becomes useless on earth.
Their is nothing more noble than what babrak is doing with the whole team. Real help and real change. He does what a real brother should do to a real brother.
RESPECT! fellow addict here. The problem with forcing them into treatment is that they need to hit a hard bottom before they're ready to get clean. Men need a job that gives them enough to support their family and thus are respected in their community. May you all find meaningful lives ❤
Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in September. I have zero cravings. This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.
A lot of people have testified about this and I really want to give it a shot. I put so much on my plate and it definitely affects my stress and anxiety levels
The Trips I've been having have really helped me a lot,I finally feel in control of my emotions and my future and things that used to be mundane to me now seem incredible and full of nuance on top of that I'm way less driven by my ego and I have alot more empathy as well
bless this man for doing what he can, we all have our addictions some less severe than others but all bad and I'm sure like the man said we'd never wish those days on our worst enemy astaghfirullah
if, (what's her name again....Allah?) wanted it to be so, wouldn't it be so? Or are you so nieve that you lack the ability to see reality for what it really is? Moron!
It breaks my heart when I see these poor people who simply have nothing. I was in Afghanistan myself in 2003 and maybe I was blind, but there was hope then. I remember these lovely people, this beautiful country. Afghanistan deserves peace. The people deserve to live. Afghanistan has been suffering for too long. Thank you to the self-sacrificing people like Uncle Babrak and many others who are working selflessly and with all their might for the welfare of the people.
It’s in the eyes, they show his heart & mind were still under the effects of the drug & it’s withdrawal. It’s a long process & anger’s often part of that. All so sad
This is an excellent documentary. Praying for our brothers and sisters there in Afghanistan. After all the hardships, praying that one day you guys will recover and have a better life. Pinoy Watching from United Arab Emirates.
Watching FROM America.. KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT NEVER SURRENDER TO THESE EVIL PARISITES THAT WANT TO DESTROY YOUR MORAL FIBER GOD ALMIGHTY GAVE YOU.GODS BLESSINGS TO EACH OF YOU
The problem that I see with this hero-worshipping thing is that in the end, it only creates inflated egos and abuse of power. I can see this falling onto corruption in a decade, as there seems to be not counter-balance and somebody who checks on him. "All power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." I am not claiming that what he is doing is bad, but there is something about the maverick about him and the way he goes around things, in my opinion.

The Taliban banned Opium for years until the American took over Afghanistan. They made it worst. Afghanistan became the world's largest supplier of opium, accounting for some 80 per cent of the global market.
InshAllah Afghan people will rise from the decades of war and unease. Just watching the people like Babrak gives me hope that the country will rebuild itself with time
Afganistan is facing really bad economic crisis, water and food shortages. I doubt that the things will improve, especially when you have hard-line schizos in control...
Just wow. Very good documentary . I was drug addicted. I agree with those addicted men. If you can't find a job and have family issues you start finding a way to silence it. Absolutely heart breaking... The poverty, the capacity to survive in apocalyptic conditions, makes the drops of humanity, compassion and hope glimmer all the more. God save this magnificent lost potential. First class documentary making.
Don't be too fooled. They need workers is all. Who else but the poor to work and keep the country going while the ppl in charge do nothing and squander money.
As poor a country it is these people are making a conscious effort to help their brothers. May God bless them. These are great human beings. It’s so hard to break that addiction but it can be done!
Babrak is a real life hero. Even if many of the people that go into rehab end up using again at least he’s able to give people the help they truly need. It’s great to see someone as passionate as he is to want to change people around him for the better. It’s saddening to know that 1/3 of the country is addicted to drugs and that other countries don’t reach out a hand to help them
@@jakobaa9031 with all due respect, drugs is dangerous and it's better to help them by force then letting them in their misery. if i'd be addicted to some drugs to the point where i'd start pickpocketting, just to get some drugs like the man that got interviewed, then i'd gladly accept their help. sometimes, violence is needed. to give you another example, if someone wanted to k*ll himself by throwing himself, i'd rather use all my strength to not let him jump and i'd be ready to knock him down so he can't use that knife to end his life. some people always say "no violence" but violence is not always a bad thing. i would use violence to defend innocent people for example. also, if you disagree with the forced hospitalization as being the best option then please provide a better solution in your comment, thank you. btw as a guy said, they need to stop the dealers, i agree but im talking from the point of view of the guy who we followed during the interview, because all he can do is what is he doing. i cant see another option for him.

We need some sort of forced rehab in America. I tried to take my brother in and it was supposed to be on his own choice. He has passed on from complications having to do with family and his addiction. Trumps agenda 47 plans to force homeless into rehab for addicts, financial and work help for people down on there times, and asylum for the mentally ill. This drug problem can and should be solved before waisting billions on Ukraine, Syria, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Or NATO. It should be America and its citizens first.

That's so awesome sis I hate to say it but I was blessed by going to prison and I was praying for freedom from my addiction and begging for God's help and then I was super angry at God for a couple of years and didn't even pray but by the end of my 5 years I realized that He saved me and it was one of the biggest blessings of my life even though I hated most of it I learned so much about life and people and I read a lot and it was absolutely helped me in every way plus I got off cigs

Ex addict here. Such a well made documentary. I also work with Afghan refugees in the UK and was aware of the addiction issues but not the scale of it. I hated the beginning and the violent forcing of people into rehab but it was great to see how healthy people look after a few weeks not using. I believe the ones who said theyre not exactly well fed or clothed in there as it would be impossible to do this on a tiny budget. I also imagine there is a fair amount of violence in there which wasn't shown in this sanitised documentary. My concern is with women as it would be too shameful for them to get help, I imagine there are many female 'hidden' addicts, which is awful to think about. I imagine there would be so much help from willing international volunteers (myself included) if only the Taliban weren't so bonkers.
You seem to be imaging a lot. And making a lot of assumptions. International organisations where there for decades and did nothing except sanitise and whitewash American atrocities.
Ironically you put a negative spin on the whole situation. The people you claim are brokers are the one's that made this rehab possible. They also eliminated 99% of heroin production under a year. When they were condemned for it they admitted that the country was poor but heroin was not only destroying their country but the wider world. Honestly western hypocrisy is too much. Yes they may have laws that are not fair but what did 20 years of American occupation achieve?
I am from America actually I live in Texas and America is not doing anything for their homeless and their drug addicts I am so glad to see that Afghanistan is trying to help their people may God bless you and keep you in the name of Jesus Christ amen
Hello mm3528, i would agree but in defense of America we are trying to solve our issues but with the historical atrocities in America there is a thin line between helping out addicts or helping to further abuse addicts. I"m actually watching this to see their solution.
Because a homeless man is U.S.A. has more rights. Taking someone by force is not the move. Sadly though it may seem wrong not giving them help, help is out there and homes there are many social helps here in LA for housing but they have to pass drug tests which makes it pointless to fund it if they are not occupied. Imagine getting kidnapped without no warning to any family or kids if u provide lmaooo that’s a crazy lawsuit

You should never make someone you love lower themselves for you. He treats the patients at rehab tough, and gives them guidance through strength and not through mercy. The same guidance his family showed him. Humans are not capable of removing addiction from your life. They can help and guide like this man helps and guides, but only God and God alone can free you.
What an inspirational documentary! Even international communities/charity organizations should support this worthy cause. God bless uncle Babrak, doctors and all the staff at the facility for all their hard work. Love from Sri Lanka!
From what you’ve shown here it looks like they’re doing great work. I know that no matter how nice a rehab is the patients will complain. It’s good to see that this is available but sad that it’s overwhelmed and underfunded.
Its really heartening to see a county, which underwent series of invasions and military conflicts, is settling down now and doing these social activities to bring back stability strengthen people's hope in their motherland. Salute to them.

Salute Babrak! I wish there are more like you in the world. You're a true hero! Yea these ppl will use as soon as they're released. The country doesn't have methadone or suboxone or any drug that will help them. @@mi5iu491 drugs are not the only answer! We have evidence based treatment! One or two will get clean? And how many will kill themselves in the process? How can you justify this?
Powerful documentary. I realize there's addiction all around the globe, but I wasn't aware of Afghanistan's high percentage whatsoever. My heart hurts for these people and their families and I hope they find relief before it's too late. Being from the US, anything that`s not doctor prescribed has a high likelihood it is fentynal laced. At 43, I can easily name over 10 people, I consider friends who have died in the past 3 years. These people aren't on the streets but have a nice life, a wealthy life. Every single time a person gets heroin, there's a chance they won't live past the first hi, and they know it. It's terrifying and so sad.
Many countries have been mistaken before, thinking that just selling the drugs, passing them on, will not affect them whatsoever. And what happens next, to the next generation? That they have a drug problem out of control that they have created themselves.
@@LisaSimpsonRulesright on ✊. The Taliban constantly are finding and cutting down the poppy fields they find. If they meet resistance they pretty much will take them out or confiscate their land. That is true, Osama allowed those fields for guns and ammunition and such. But the buck stopped after his death. And his followers had to get in line or get wiped out.
That was one of the most incredible documentary i have ever seen and that man and the staff are doing amazing work. May god bless them and give them the strength to keep fighting the good fight. ❤❤❤
I’m not a big fan of religion, but I will say I like the way they show a lot of brotherly love in this video very touching the world could use more of that
If someone "kidnapped" you like this you wouldnt have been addicted. But your government probably want you to be addicted thats why they didnt "kidnap" you like this. These people will be thankful after when they get sober.
So there letting them go through withdrawals cold turkey from heroin?? That's extremely unhealthy and you could possibly die from that depending how bad your addiction is
I really enjoyed watching all the drug addicts be rehabilitate. Thank you to the people who are helping this situation, alot of work involved and makes a huge difference.
Babrak's speech that he gives to the patients at 34:10 about the need for personal responsibility and self-awareness of our actions in life, you can tell comes from a place of sincerity and experience. It is only by looking inward that we can ever truly grow outward.
That's true and ultimately why this "therapy" is deeply flawed. Without voluntary commitment of the patients, lasting changes will be harder to achieve. Afghan solutions for Afghan problems I suppose. @@jakobaa9031

Qatari wahabi agenda vs Saudi wahabi agenda? 😂😂

Hello mm3528, i would agree but in defense of America we are trying to solve our issues but with the historical atrocities in America there is a thin line between helping out addicts or helping to further abuse addicts. I"m actually watching this to see their solution.
That's because pharma has money in government
Because a homeless man is U.S.A. has more rights. Taking someone by force is not the move. Sadly though it may seem wrong not giving them help, help is out there and homes there are many social helps here in LA for housing but they have to pass drug tests which makes it pointless to fund it if they are not occupied.

The sad truth is that caring for others is not worth it for Afghanistan now!
Considering its against their religion
