I love it when Connor plays games like this and Fear & Hunger. The narration explaining the complex and hard-to-obtain lore is on point and something I could never figure out!
The only thing im missing is an explanation on the Heretics, is that just their title because of Eus sinning and then the rift forming in their ranks? The Heretics being those who sided with Eus? If so why is tail a heretic, despite technically being innocent? Why are the heretics linked to the seals?

That bit where Lilie was saying her goodbyes to an already passed Gray... even Connor was choking up and holding back the emotions. How did a game make us so attached and invested in these characters despite the actual memory sections being so short relative to the puzzles themselves? A great game mechanic, amazing soundtrack, grabbing story... this was one hell of a game to watch be played.
He mentioned WormGirl a few times during the stream (I think this was ~9 months ago). This was one of my favorite streams by Connor. The music was so good, and the game was relatively undocumented and undiscovered. Was fun finding out stuff about a lore-heavy game with everyone.

Seconding this! It's so nice to see big personalities among influencers take risks and try these little gems, it probably doesn't do as well for the algorithm but I enjoy it so much
@@Ironpeckeri still come back to this video when i have nothing else to watch lol these kinds of games have completely changed how i’ve judged on how good a game is
It has to be said that Connor's in the moment voice acting MAJORLY enhances the experience of watching these condensed playthroughs. He does such an amazing job bringing so many of these characters to life, he was made for making videos about these kind of games. I kinda wish he would play something like Ace Attorney, i know that hearing him give voices to some of the characters in that game would be a riot.
the whole "devotion" talk about being needed to stay down the void is very clearly metaphorical with the creator's intent of wishing to see people be devoted to understand each other. you, conner, showed your devotion by finishing this game because you wanted to understand the game. it's the meta parallelism. and you being referred to as "stranger" is intentional. you're a stranger to the creator. we're stangers to each other, yet here you are, showing your devotion by finishing the game. devotion to understand it, undertand someone.
I was looking for a comment like this, the way the game is so deliberately frustrating so you have to be devoted to finishing it, I love when mechanics of a game reinforce the themes
1:32:37 for those who don't know that text says "Not to be covered" which is basically a joke about how Finnish radiators used to come with warnings not to cover them. In Sweden they found this hilarious and it became a big joke, basically "haha Finland so dumb they need a manual how to use a radiator".
And every finn now knows how to say the same thing in swedish and norwegian too as most of those radiators also had the same line in those languages too.
@@HANIMEME It can not literally be seen to be pink but she has a tiny ribbon pinned to her shirt which traditionally is pink and can be bought with some of the money going to breast cancer research. I believe there have been attempts to piggy back on this idea with other color ribbons that have not caught on, so the original pink ribbon seems most likely.
If this is your first experience with Void Stranger, Connor's first few hours with the game went VERY well. I watched plenty of people die immediately after getting the staff, not learning the purpose of the locusts for hours. Some people miss the point of the seals completely until 10+ hours into the game. My first time beating it with Gray all I had was the cube. He's not kidding when he says two people can have wildly different experiences with this, it's great!
@@Brohany this game is like fear and hunger in a sense: if you play It blind, you are gonna suffer like a chicken getting raw-dogged by a horse, you will find almost none of the stuff that makes the game beatable, and u will probably drop it after 10 hours. Or you will slowly start to understand the little hints the game throws you, and you will spend the next 150 hours trying to 100% it (probably with some help from the wiki lol). So just do what will make you enjoy the game most based on your taste
@@Brohany If you can, go in blind if you're even slightly thinking about playing the game. It's tough, but it's fun to discover as much as you can on your own, and most of the game is in that discovery.
Aha, that lines up with the conversation with Daniel where Freya had apparently told him about the size of Gray's "expectations" and Gray's own comment about helping with back-ache.
Something cool about DIS, is in Dante's Inferno, Dis is a city in the middle layers of Hell where fallen angels reside. Meaning through a hole in the Earth (also like Dante's Inferno), Gray enters into hell, fights demons and enters one of its cities
I picked this game up after watching the first 30 minutes of this video, and got the DIS ending, and pondered it's meaning Gotta say that the narrative structure of this game makes a lot more sense if you're familiar with Dante's Inferno and can recognise the heavy influence on Void Stranger's design
One of the most important things in any game is how it teaches you its mechanics and this game just does it perfectly. It shows you a thing and then it goes: Now deal with it.
One of the coolest things that the game does is show you a room that has a very easy exit, but with some items placed in strange locations (especially chests) and usually you'll have no idea on how to get them; only for the next floor to explain to you exactly how you could have gotten them. And, since there's no way to go back, just one floor it just dares you to reset the game just to go get the thing you missed! So cool!
@@Ironpecker That's also reduces the frustration a bit. Rather than thinking "damn it I died. Now I have to do all that again." you think "Damn it I died. Well I can now get those things I've missed before".
so let me get this straight: gray lived in medieval europe and was in love with the queen and promised her to raise the princess. the princess had a child with that fucker johann and was brought to the dungeon. gray went to the dungeon to find the princess, but could only free one soul, and chose her child. she was then transfered to modern day finland and raised the child there as a mom, preparing her for her inevitable trip to the dungeon. the child grew up and went to the dungeon to resque her real mom. she succeded and went back to finland to live with her mom, but because the princess was in a stasis in the dungeon, her child is now older then her and, at least by age, more of a mother or an older sister figure to her. and all of this is oversimplified and barely covers a half of this game's plot. this is one of the weirdest and deepset stories about motherhood i've vere witnessed 😭 like how does one even come up with this. absolutely amazing 😭
@@ascenderre Gray was presented with a choice; "a zygote has turned into a blastocyst and attached itself to the womb - which soul will you save?" Either Lily, the princess - or Lillie, her daughter. And she chose the latter, bringing her up with an additional purpose to one day rescue the former.
@@angelachan4291 nah, as great as the game is, the fact that he did it all in one sitting without the dlc makes it much less interesting. At a certain point, it's clear he just wanted it to end.

2:52:38 It should be noted, that while Connor listed all the following names here as "demons", there is one exception to that. Add - Abaddon is treated as a demon in some interpretations of Christianity, however originally, it really was never a demon. Abaddon is an *angel*, a guardian of the abyss, he who brings destruction but still follows the will of God and torments everyone who opposes His will with a swarm of locusts. If you watch the video to the end, this will most certainly make a lot of sense.
It's actually more crazy to me that this game isn't more popular. Sure it's new and seems really obtusely difficult, but the plot is pretty interesting and honestly the game mechanics seem super unique. Really hope it gets more attention!
christ lady Grey is such a BADASS,this game has so much soul but i wouldnt be patient enough to play it and figure everything out, thanks for bringing it on the channel connor
Regular blockbuster 2 hour movie: Hmm, dunno if I can commit to it right now. I'll save it for when I'm ready. Connor with a 3 hour video: Oh cool, whack it on.
Wait until he finds out that ZerOranger (the first game Void Stranger dev made) is pretty much the prelude to Void Stranger that also has it own secrets heck even characters from ZerOranger shows up here in Void Stranger
Gray's ringtone at 1:37:24 is the motif from the final boss theme of ZeroRanger and hearing it for the first time sent me into fight or flight mode so quick
This and ZeroRanger both sound really cool, and I'd love to play them, but I honestly worry that I don't have the self-esteem or mental stability to play in a way that's even remotely healthy. But then, since they're games about discovery, I feel like I can't watch anyone else play them enough to decide if I'm right without ruining any experience I could ever have with them. I've only watched 14 minutes of this, and I've already spoiled what seems like a really cool and important puzzle. That was a wild ride of a game. Connor with his persistence (+plus the added voiceover to the character) to clear the game & and well edited behind the scenes that helps viewers follow along this long and convoluted story. Much respect o7
2:19:53 I kinda see why she saw that as funny. Despite that Lillie didn’t directly wish for her biological mom (whether or not she knew she was there), the fact that she wish for her mom, Gray, for peace indirectly means to free her actual mom as well.
I don't personally plan on playing this game after watching this video, but I have so much respect for the dev for making it that I actually decided to buy it anyway. I want to support these phenomenal devs who put so much heart and passion into their projects to make something this fucking cool. Also, it made me cry, so that's neat.
Honestly how I felt after seeing this I plan on buying it just to support their phenomenal work and Maybe even give it a shot myself (I doubt i’ma remember any puzzles and secrets conner went through in the game considering how many there are💀)
That was possibly the best playthrough one could possibly provide for this game. Thanks Connor for all the work you put into presenting this game to the fullest details, giving us all the satisfaction of living through the lore of Void Stranger!
Within the first hour of the video I genuinely thought this was a missed chance to make it a 2 or even 3 part series for it to become more digestable, but honestly I didn't notice the 3h length that much. When the dawg was streaming this game, I couldn't really manage to catch on the long ass streams due to timezone differences, but just like with Fear and hunger, if he stuck to grinding a seemingly random and lesser known game for that long, a well made video about it will eventually come after. And I am very glad it did. I genuinely don't think this game would be fit for a lot of people to play themselves, myself included, but that doesnt take away that it is a really amazing game, so I very much appreciate being able to enjoy it as a viewer regardless. The story is fuckin great and though it gets convoluted asf towards the end, it doesn't take away that it is still great. Good shit man.. Really enjoyed it the whole way through. Thanks for this video.
As a blind player, completely agree this game isn't for most people without a hint guide or a love of suffering and sokoban. If you can't bash your head against a puzzle wall for 30 minutes several dozen times, watching a let's play is the wise choice.
Man, Mudan's team of editors is just pumping out massive banger after massive banger. I have no clue how y'all manage to edit these monsters into such concise and well designed videos, but major props to all of you. And I guess to Connor too for recording those giant streams. Lul
Not just recording the streams, doing this entire voiceover and explanation stuff as well. I think he really loved the game so much that he HAD to make this video, regardless of how well it will do on the channel.
I've been STARVING for this video since I watched you play it on stream. Hopefully, despite the numerous warnings, this will help the game become more acknowledged and encourage some people to play it. Hopefully on camera so I can -watch them suffer- relive the wonders of a blind playthrough
this video is my only exposure to this game and every single comment along with the video is giving me every reason under the sun as to why i should NEVER play it.
One small correction at 1:40:10 TAN was not a traitorous lord. TAN was sealed because she went mad and ADD was forced to put her down with the sword. The three traitors were EUS, GOR, and MON. MON managed to somehow hide herself so completely that the others thought she was dead and her seal broke.
The Void Lords' battle is one of those things that can take a while to puzzle out during the game since it, too, kinda has multiple layers to it. Like Tail says, on the surface it was the Lords' ranks dividing when Eus sinned. But the nature of Eus' sin is never revealed, and the true allegiances of some of the Lords are only revealed late in the game, or by a single egg/rock's dialogue in some random room. Lev, in an envy-fueled power grab, may have somehow tricked Eus and orchestrated the whole thing from the beginning while feigning allegiance to Add; Mon only sided with Eus to help with Lev's scheming while hoping to gain more power for herself as well, and faked her own death; Gor was only condemned as a traitor for being true to their nature and being lazy to the point of indecision on whether to shun Eus or not, and Tan, too, was struck down as collateral for being uncontrollable. And the general power dynamic of Add being 'mother' to all the others makes it all read as a parent responding to unruly children by SLAYING them. And then she abandoned them afterwards to live with mortals instead, and try some further parenting with them.
The funniest part is, he's still missing the final ending: Spoilers for those who want to find it blind Go to floor 255 as cif. You should know what to do
27:22 chat begged connor to put the optional speedrun timer on for some ungodly reason, but this wall mural was found anyway by complete accident, despite being covered up by the milliseconds field
I see Void Stranger, I CLICK. Tbh I started playing this game when Connor brushed over it during one of the TT episodes. Totally didn't expect what I was getting myself into. I loved all the characters and the amount of details the devs put in. I got so many emotions from this game, and now only a simple memory will remain...
The old-school Zelda vibes definitely make me think of the first time I tried playing any of the game games, or even a link to the past. Sure, you could look up guides, but I was born in an era where we didn’t have very much available or didn’t know that we could look stuff up on the Internet. Feels just as cryptic and uniquely fun!
This game is so underrated because the month that game released was the worst month for indie games I'm glad that you played it and made this video so more people can experience this game
I didn't beat the game entirely legit. I had some puzzles that I never would have figured out. But I was so enamoured by the story and the characters I couldn't live with myself without seeing this to the end. Finding the secrets, the characters, the music... everything. I love it. Seeing how different Connor experienced compared to me was such a treat. From the bottom of my heart Connor, thank you so much for playing this. The more exposed this game becomes, the happier I'll be.
A large part of this game is about communicating and reaching out in longing for hope even when you are suffering. I don't think communicating with others for help solving puzzles is bad, in some senses it might be the intended experience. If you made it through the game despite the suffering, I think you beat the game legit.
Wow, it's been a while since watching a video on a game intrigued me as much as this did (coincidentally the last time was watching a Worm Girl video, so that tracks). The depth of the game and the amount of time that must've went into it to make something so unique has left me at a loss for words. I sincerely hope that the developers are rewarded for their efforts. Thank you Connor and Worm Girl (And the Mods!) for putting something so cool into the spotlight.
WARNING: Dont watch beyond 7:20 if you wish to play it yourself without MAJOR SPOILERS! Yes, that's the very beginning of the video. At the very least, leave THE SECOND you're sold on the game. Please like this to help people see the warning before its too late.
I played this game for 15 good hours without discovering any secrets. I eventually stopped because the rooms were getting ridiculously hard to beat since I didn’t have the wings
i liked the characters and the spritework, the character designs were also really neat! it does look fun to play, so i might give it a chance. really glad you were able to make this video, good job to the team!
While I encourage you to support the devs if you watched the letsplay, the game isn't for everyone. I don't immediately suggest it unless you enjoy suffering or sokoban puzzles, similar playing 80s/90s games with no guide. That said I will never forget my experience with the game.
every statue gives me more and more anxiety, and the music change is very uncalled for when it comes to how much more anxiety it gave me, on the other hand the game looks insanely fun and your reactions are great as always to see.
Tail was probably assuming the shape of Lily's mother for Gray. But regardless of who Tail was, it means Gray's one true love was a woman, which implies she's gay (maybe bi, but probably gay). Which makes her having to sleep with Johan to arrange the marriage even sadder.
Or, based on Tail not exactly knowing what the proper way to express what was meant by “love”, Gray at some point slept with lily’s mother, still implying she is gay or bi. Which makes the johann thing a little less sad lol
@@LegiamasC-OnTwitta Tail takes the form of the person you love. From the plot it is made clear that for Gray that person was the Queen. The bride who runs away from her marriage and Lillie see Tail's true form because they didn't have a true love.

This game would be so sick on a dedicated handheld, kinda like how nintendo made game-and-watch style handhelds for the first mario and zelda games a few years back
Hitting the end.... I convinced a friend to buy it and I'll probably take a crack at it myself to see how the game hits me. What a wild ride. Shoutouts to the entire team for making this video possible. The editors, WormGirl, thank you for helping bring such a unique experience to people.

I don’t even like puzzles but just watching this video felt like I went on a journey and it’s an experience that I will not forget.
Hi! Average Connor viewer here, I can give bit more information about the game if you guy are interested. What Conner got toward the end is Grey's True ending, you can also get Lillie'sTure Ending in the same route after compeleting Grey's Normal Ending. if you procede to the deepest part of the Void, after finding out the person behind all this is the Void Stranger LEV, it then trigger a similar cut scene that reveals Lillie's ture identity: ADD Truns out that ADD was spectial about LEV long time ago, thendone something to prevent all this from happening, unfortunately LEV was still able to come back to life. Then its the same figting battleship gameplay, but if you actully beat it, towartd the End of the fight, If you go to Lev's Heart, and Press Z, it will trigger a hidden level that shows you Lev's memeory on how they made earth from the start, and after you reached the Tree to rest, you get a mini game thats called "Stop the Evil Onion Gang" , afeter beating the MIni game, you will then be shown the memory galery of Lillie and Grey. The ending then shows Lillie(ADD) return her mother to the earth then Vanish with all of the Void Strangers. Classic Bitter Sweet Ending thta leave you with a lot emotions. Sorry my english is not that good, hopefully you guy were understood what I'm trying to say.......

The amount of the depth in this game is shocking, especially considering the gameplay itself mostly seems to be moving blocks around. I love the Link's Awakening style look to it all. Seconding this! It's so nice to see big personalities among influencers take risks and try these little gems, it probably doesn't do as well for the algorithm but I enjoy it so much
Seconding this x2 i love this phase of connor trying hidden gems like this, games full of soul with an amazing story to tell
Absolutely agree.
I kinda wish he would play something like Ace Attorney, i know that hearing him give voices to some of the characters in that game would be a riot.
too bad he hates to read lol
@clare5688 yeah true that 💀
soild fucking idea!
the whole "devotion" talk about being needed to stay down the void is very clearly metaphorical with the creator's intent of wishing to see people be devoted to understand each other. you, conner, showed your devotion by finishing this game because you wanted to understand the game. it's the meta parallelism.
and you being referred to as "stranger" is intentional. you're a stranger to the creator. we're stangers to each other, yet here you are, showing your devotion by finishing the game. devotion to understand it, undertand someone.
Yep,
I can hear you.
In spain they also came with the warning, in several languages
And every finn now knows how to say the same thing in swedish and norwegian too as most of those radiators also had the same line in those languages too.
I also guess the implication is that Grey died of breast cancer. At least I think it is why Lillie is seen wearing a pink ribbon.
there was color in the game?
He's not kidding when he says two people can have wildly different experiences with this, it's great!
im thinking of playing this is this one of those games that are best played completely blind with knowing nothing or can I watch the vid first
@@Brohany this game is like fear and hunger in a sense: if you play It blind, you are gonna suffer like a chicken getting raw-dogged by a horse, you will find almost none of the stuff that makes the game beatable, and u will probably drop it after 10 hours.

Lmfaoo I figured it was something like that after her talk with Freya
Aha, that lines up with the conversation with Daniel where Freya had apparently told him about the size of Gray's "expectations" and Gray's own comment about helping with back-ache.
the fact that the video could only be cut down to 1/8th(?) of the vod length shows the depth and fuckery of this game. straight up insane.
This besides the fact that Connor beat it way faster than people usually do
@@seuseu6071 Never having to do a playthrough without the items (plus having chat to point out stuff if you get stuck) makes it wayyy easier.
@@jazpuh yeeeeah. I had to beat the second act without anything and almost pooped myself in the process

Something cool about DIS, is in Dante's Inferno, Dis is a city in the middle layers of Hell where fallen angels reside. Meaning through a hole in the Earth (also like Dante's Inferno), Gray enters into hell, fights demons and enters one of its cities
I picked this game up after watching the first 30 minutes of this video, and got the DIS ending, and pondered it's meaning
Gotta say that the narrative structure of this game makes a lot more sense if you're familiar with Dante's Inferno and can recognise the heavy influence on Void Stranger's design
One of the most important things in any game is how it teaches you its mechanics and this game just does it perfectly. It shows you a thing and then it goes:
Now deal with it.
So cool!
True
@@Ironpecker That's also reduces the frustration a bit. Rather than thinking "damn it I died. Now I have to do all that again." you think "Damn it I died. Well I can now get those things I've missed before".
thats not teaching.
so let me get this straight: gray lived in medieval europe and was in love with the queen and promised her to raise the princess. the princess had a child with that fucker johann and was brought to the dungeon. gray went to the dungeon to find the princess, but could only free one soul, and chose her child. she was then transfered to modern day finland and raised the child there as a mom, preparing her for her inevitable trip to the dungeon. the child grew up and went to the dungeon to resque her real mom. she succeded and went back to finland to live with her mom, but because the princess was in a stasis in the dungeon, her child is now older then her and, at least by age, more of a mother or an older sister figure to her.
and all of this is oversimplified and barely covers a half of this game's plot. this is one of the weirdest and deepset stories about motherhood i've vere witnessed 😭 like how does one even come up with this. absolutely amazing 😭
I understood it as the princess asking for her daughter to be saved
There's a whole lot more, the whole deal about Gray being Add's mortal incarnation (or something like that) changes things up a LOT
@@voidrius i'm not even gonna pretend i understand that plotpoint lol
@@hathorthecow7146 wasn't she asleep? i read it as gray's choice to save them both in the future

It should be noted, that while Connor listed all the following names here as "demons", there is one exception to that.

Mon's actually wearing her seal on her head. But since the system thinks she's dead it works for 000.
And then she abandoned them afterwards to live with mortals instead, and try some further parenting with them.
i fully thought the game was over at 1:30:17 but then i checked the video runtime and NOPE THERES 2 MORE HOURS

Hi!
Average Connor viewer here, I can give bit more information about the game if you guy are interested.
What Conner got toward the end is Grey's True ending, you can also get Lillie'sTure Ending in the same route after compeleting Grey's Normal Ending.
if you procede to the deepest part of the Void, after finding out the person behind all this is the Void Stranger LEV, it then trigger a similar cut scene that reveals Lillie's ture identity: ADD
Truns out that ADD was spectial about LEV long time ago, thendone something to prevent all this from happening, unfortunately LEV was still able to come back to life.

Edit 1: I'm gonna go along the way and say if I like it or not and different other stuff, I like it so far.
Edit 2: This song is a banger and the storyline is really good.
Edit 3: NOOOO, THE SNAKE.
Edit 4: Contract blah blah blah.
Edit 5: WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE SNAKE. WHERE ARE THE MELONS?
Edit 6: Dating simulator suddenly.
Edit 7: This is VERY confusing.
Edit 8: SANS BLASTER BOSSFIGHT!??! (More like Flowey ngl.)
Last edit: Wow, that ending.. 😭 Multiple endings... This video was amazing, I'm going to sleep now. I'm tired.
I've barely started but I can tell this is gonna be something special, I absolutely loved your fear and hunger videos so I think this is gonna hit the same vein
