Hope more games do this. As time goes on, the appeal of reading lore notes that add absolutely nothing in terms of gameplay gets less and less appealing to me. Lmao. At least in fear and hunger, most of the lore sets the tone of the world, while select few actually help you on your journey.

Fun fact: The name Per'kele comes from the Finnish swear word perkele. Perkele in English usually goddamn or goddammit. But depending on the context, it can also be translated to (the) devil or Satan. And in the Finnish national epic, Kalevala, the moon is a godly figure. Edit: Termina, 3 day time frame, a moon driving people insane... Dev really likes Majora's Mask. Another edit: Connor mentions these things later on in the video, I was being a bit too hasty.
God I love how unique of an experience this game provides depending on which character you play as. I think the sheer detail that goes into the storytelling and lore of this game lends itself so well to the gameplay. Anyone can play this, there is something in this game for everyone. Someone like Connor, who is self reportedly not a big fan of story games, can find himself immersed in this terrifying and ruthless world. Let's take the character he picked as an example, Marcoh. From the very beginning, in his character history he is set up as someone who is vehemently against the idea of killing, yet when faced with no alternative he is forced to disregard his morals in favor of survival. That kind of character is now yet again put in a setting which forces him to chose a path which he will go down. If he is a playable character, there is a certain intrigue that this lore provides when looking into the choices that player makes, knowing this you can realistically imagine him going both the pacifist or bloodthirsty route in the context of the story. The title of his soul suggests he has been "tainted" by the life that he has lead. Ending B reflects this by having him lead a tainted existence after the festival, forever haunted by the events that transpired and trying to make up for the guilt that his choices brought. A fitting and satisfying ending for the path that leads to it. And tho the ending isn't ideal, there is a sense of hope in it. But then you look at a character like, let's say Daan for example. For lack of a better word, Daan is nothing if not fucked throughout this whole game. As a playable character, there is not a single ending in which the sun shines on poor Daan. In his character history we learn that his whole life has essentially been ruined by the occult. His parents, devout followers of Sylvian, lost themselves in the rituals (like ones we've seen in previous games). His newfound family, fiance and father in law who took him in, overtaken by the cultists mindset, sacrificed themselves in order to appease the old gods. Not only that, but even before his arrival to Prehevil, he has been followed by PocketCat. Most likely due to his possession of a "Blank Soul". In case Daan makes it to Day 4, his moonscorched animation is unique compared to the rest, one in which his body is overtaken by PocketCat. Someone like Daan, who refuses to even put the dying out of their misery due to being being bound by the Hippocratic Oath, someone who has seen the consequences of being bound to the occult. Is essentially forced to go against his all of his core values, resort to harming others, falter at the feet of the occult. And for what? To make it out of this hellscape alive right? Yeah, you would think so. But then you look at Daan's Ending B. And what you are faced with is a bleak, essentially pointless existence, void of any trace of hope for the future. Daan walks out of that place knowing nothing of the circumstances that surround the death of his loved ones, having compromised his morals and fallen into the occult, and to put a bow on that bag of shit. The very last line of dialogue in that ending implies a continuous presence of PocketCat in Daan's life. Meaning that eventually, he will be overtaken by that fucker. Everything that he has done, was all for naught. He was screwed before he even walked into that Train.
Olivia is also fascinating, especially with her ties to the A ending. After all, the Machine God is her sister, Relia. • Olivia was born at the stroke of midnight when the month changed, so her twin got the Radiating Soul while Olivia got the Shadowed Soul. All her life she was in her popular, genius sister’s shadow, up to and including her paralysis. Then Relia disappears, Olivia discovers her ties to the rebellion, and everything is turned on its head. Olivia is the one who comes to her sister’s rescue, and as the MC she finds empowerment in this oppressive place. Her botanical knowledge lets her mix poisons, she heals in sunlight and becomes a BEAST with guns. Her disability is very much present, but when push comes to shove she can now take her life into her hands…whether through brutality or through finding Relia, who is now immobilized and needs HER help. In the A ending, Relia calls out to her by name, and they join together into one being, the Shadowed and the Radiating. The B ending also emphasizes her empowerment, and a closeness with her sister (despite never knowing what happened to her).
You raging over the time moving forward *is so real for this series.* Things to lovingly rage at Fear and Hunger for : no explanations (which we love), the vastness of the maps, the impossible story endings, aaannnddd coin flips.
24:59 The heads on the wall caught my eye for a couple easter eggs! Aside from heads of some of the enemies in this game, the wall also has the head of a Ghoul and potentially a Marriage from Fear and Hunger 1. But they aren't the only heads from F&H1. Then there's also the head of Lord Buckman, the chubby lord hiding from Trortur. And I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure Cahara's head is also up there. One could argue it's just asset reusing. But I love the idea of little details like this, even if it was unintentional.
This video isnt about the story of the game, its the story of a mans slow decent into madness over a coin toss, him seeing the signs of god going "Please for the love of me, CHOOSE HEAD!" and him repeatedly "no tails will win! IT WILL!"
I love the way Connor just casually drops huge lore explanations without any details. He really tells the viewers "Yeah, that boss was the little girl. She's also Olivia's sister", and doesn't elaborate at all

Connor probably corrects himself at some point but Russia/USSR in this game is called "Eastern Union", the "Eastern Sanctuaries" are basically the ottomans. Just in case this helps in understanding anything at all better lol
Russia is called Voronia (Voron is Raven in Russian, so "Ravenland" basically. Edgy enough). Eastern Union is confederacy of Voronia and Eastern Sanctuaries, which is Middle East as a whole, and its capital Jettayah = Jerusalem
This is the best video on this game I've seen thanks to cuts and voicover, it never drags on but you still get everything, I hope for more of both hames dofferent playthroughs.
I must say I really like those videos Connor, love the editing, the way it's put together, how things are explained - and how "new viewer that may not know about the game a whole lot"-friendly. Fun, humorous, entertaining (even though the game itself is very dark, and I surely don't just mean the need for torches or flashlights). . . . . I guess mini-rant alert? Since, I also quite badly want to say that "I want to play the game", because of it's intriguing lore - quite interesting world and characters the developer/s built. Want to say that "I want to buy the game, support the developer/s of it, play trough it all" regardless of having learned a bit about it here so some things won't be as big of a surprise anymore... but because of few certain reasons I feel I just can't. What are they? If someone who's reading comments (and this comment) is curious, here are a few: Bugs in this game, and obtaining useful items or not getting anything(that among -us- many other things) being completely up to RNG... is so bad. The story and the characters are quite intriguing, those make me interested in this game & it's world, I consider it to be pretty cool... but those two things really sabotage it's potential and reputation I feel. If you want to make a difficult game - sure, go for it - but to make a difficult game and then have a lot of things in it simply not work (which in turn makes it even harder) and not bother fixing them, that as well as stubbornly keep the looting system - obtaining useful items or not getting anything period (or instantly-dying, or getting perma-stunned or blinded...) - up to a 50/50(which somehow more often than not actually works against you), that's just cancerous. I don't mean to shit on the game or the dev(I don't know them after all), I simply wish things worked and lived up to their potential... But hey, feel free to disagree, we all have free will after all(or at least should have), free will, tastes and opinions. I ain't saying my opinion is holy, I just consider it quite logical and generally healthy.
The Fear and Hunger videos are - personally for me - CDawgVA's best content. Just watching him delve into an entirely different world with insane rules and lore just opens your eyes. Seeing such a story being played out is awesome to see

How to make Connor read lore?
Simple, make him play a game where every information can give your ass a chance of not getting fcked XD
Fear and hunger lore is also good btw.
Hope more games do this. As time goes on, the appeal of reading lore notes that add absolutely nothing in terms of gameplay gets less and less appealing to me. Lmao. At least in fear and hunger, most of the lore sets the tone of the world, while select few actually help you on your journey.

The name Per'kele comes from the Finnish swear word perkele.
Perkele in English usually goddamn or goddammit.
But depending on the context, it can also be translated to (the) devil or Satan.
And in the Finnish national epic, Kalevala, the moon is a godly figure.

Connor ty for bringing this game to a larger audience

I hope these fear and hunger vids do well cause I want more of them.
This video isnt about the story of the game, its the story of a mans slow decent into madness over a coin toss, him seeing the signs of god going "Please for the love of me, CHOOSE HEAD!" and him repeatedly "no tails will win! IT WILL!"

If someone who's reading comments (and this comment) is curious, here are a few:
Bugs in this game, and obtaining useful items or not getting anything(that among -us- many other things) being completely up to RNG...
I enjoy the voice overs for the plot! It was fun and saved me from searching it up and getting confused 😂 Thank you and awesome vid!
