    Okay thanks for clearing that up for me. Here in Canada those valves may be more common. So the txv still primarily takes care of the increased load demand in the cooler itself, and the headmaster just maintains minimum required head pressure in extreme low ambient temperatures around the condensor. Thanks for the video and explanations. Kevin

      I usually use it more for the friction points on the flare but someone's I'll put it on the threads, (I also will use a white locktight on only the threads if it's a special case but not the mating surface, EVER.) The nylog is just a oil, I don't believe they're is anything wrong with it. ( But any locktight or leak lock i never use it anywhere but the threads. )

    Dumb question but why is the headmaster needed in the first place? Is it to help keep the liquid refrigerant in the reciever more fluid so it can make it back to the txv? I understand it's to keep the head pressure high during colder months of the year, but why is that needed?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 года назад

      It keeps the head pressure up during lower ambient temperatures. If your head pressure drops so does your low side pressure. That can lead to feeding issues to the TXV and coil freeze ups

  • @k.sullivan6303
    @k.sullivan6303 5 лет назад +1

    So this controller helps to maintain pressure in unusual low pressure situations?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  5 лет назад +1

      Correct, it's job is to keep a minimum head pressure of what it's rated for, in this case, 180 psi. This helps keep the refrigerant pressure high enough to maintain the pressure difference needed to run the txv. These only work in a system with a liquid reciever.

  • @k.sullivan6303
    @k.sullivan6303 5 лет назад +2

    So if the Receiver becomes starved, the valve opens to allow some liquid to go directly to the Receiver from the discharge ? Would this happen in high load conditions usually...such as filling up the freezer or cooler with a big new load of food or beverages? Kevin

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  5 лет назад +1

      If the receiver becomes starved of liquid, the TXV will also become starved as well, this is why you have to have the extra 10 to 15% for the winter charge, it doesn't substitute an improperly charge system. What it's doing is allowing hot gas to come into the receiver and mixed with the liquid in the receiver to maintain a constant minimal head pressure. If the refrigerant level is low then the system's going to starve the txv of liquid. These systems are also referred to as a flooded condenser because you're actually backing up refrigerant into the condenser in addition to what's in the receiver.

    • @jeromericketts2400
      @jeromericketts2400 3 года назад +1

      10 -15 percent of what ? The total change I live in Canada and this is something I struggle with. Or another example let’s say you go to a service call during the day and find that it’s low on gas and charge the unit to a full sight glass and pressures are good. How do I know how much extra Freon to add for low ambient temp ?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 года назад

      @Jerome, yes of the total charge amount, if you don't know for sure what that amount is then you can less accurately guess what the total is and calculate it or pump it down into the receiver available warm it up with a heat source to see if you around the 80% mark.

      Our recovery tanks have a dip tube on the liquid but none of the throw away tank flavors I use do.
