Never gets old. American spaghetti western new wave. No one else did it. Completely original and very well done to boot. Europeans like Frank Tovey, Siouxsie Sioux (I love Siouxsie), and many others going back to the 1960's tried to tap into this American frontier mystique but only WOV was the real deal.
he was certainly a legend...how did so many of us miss these guys? marc moreland vibe was dark brooding and celebratory all at once...nobody ever made like anthems on the guitar hitting notes on the flying V...call of the west a standout...last 3 songs are brilliant to listen to and to watch

Just got home lastnight 10.13.21 from a cross country bicycle ride (NH>>>WY) where I listened to this album almost daily -I had wiped my iPod by accident before leaving and had virtually no music. Trying Spotify for the first time I was searching random bands I remembered as a kid and found this album. The title, the backdrop of my ride and the sounds just coalesced perfectly into an amazing experience and a new favorite record
Brilliant album by a brilliant band. My personal favorite is Lost Weekend. When I listed to this in the early 80ties, people told me I had a strange taste in music. Thanks to God, nothing has changed.
So great. These guys epitomized the synthesis of campy 50s culture (film noir, westerns, sci-fi) and modern (at the time) electronic pop that made the time period immediately following punk so great, in my opinion. To my ears, this sounds as fresh now as it did 30+ years ago.
The problem for WOV at the time is they were far ahead of their time . Most electronic pop of the 1980's sounds dated but not WOV as no one else sounded remotely like them then or now . They were and are unique . best band I have ever seen live in over 45 years of gig going and well over 1000 bands seen including supports.

All excellent After Stan left in 1983 the band carried on with a new lead singer Andy Preiboy. This incarnation of the band also released Two excellent studio albums and a fantastic live album. Unlike Stan ,Andy wrote music and lyrics eg my fav ever WOV track = "Wrong way to Hollywood" . The Moreland Brothers wrote the music for most of the band's first two albums eg Mark came up with the tune for "Mexican Radio" . They also wrote plenty of the music on the Two post Stan albums. Around 50/50 with Andy. Anyway plenty of stuff on You tube re both versions of WOV. Do you still live in Melbourne ? the AP era WOV released the live album "The Ugly Americans in Australia " recoded on their tour to Aus in 1988. call of the west is still one of my favorite records ever. i still have the original CD and artwork from back in the day. i saw ridgeway in palo alto like in '91 or so. "factory" is still one of the coolest songs ever..if anyone knows of any video for this please let me know.

I had that same reaction when I first heard Mexican Radio. It was on one of these commercials for an 80's greatest hits cd. I remember goin' "What?". It wasn't until I heard this song that I had to go get the album.
ah, wall of voodoo, they were great, joe nanini was my fav, saw them at bogarts in cincy ohio, wouldnt it have been neat if they could have been touring with captain beefheart, I know he thought they were cool at the time, music from the other side of the fence.

Seeing his brings a tear to my eye. God, I loved these guys so much, and there were so many incredible bands coming out of LA around the same time, like Tupelo Chain Sex. I saw WOV - by accident - in Vancouver in December of '81. My mates and I flew out to see King Crimson on the Discipline tour, and Voodoo were playing a club the night before. Saw th show, talked to Stan. Helluva night. What an epic fucking song.

I saw them live on New Year's Eve 1982 in Ann Arbor Michigan! I was right by the stage! They were throwing popcorn back and forth into the crowd!

The band went on after Stan . . . with Andy stepping in as lead vocals, as you should well know.
Synching is way off but what a kickass clip. Great sound and energy. Can hear the lyrics better than on the original. Monster song.
