This performance took place at the second US Festival, held at Glen Helen Regional Park in the Devore neighborhood of San Bernardino, southern California, USA. There were 670,000 people in the crowd.

They seem like decent enough guys that could take a good joke...
This is amazing--thanks for sharing this! I can't believe how great they sounded live, and that, shortly after this set, Stan decided to walk away from WOV due to how crazy their success started to make them. Stan is the only harmonica player I've ever enjoyed listening to. The guy's a genius.
Steve was who put together the "US" festivals for a few years at Mountain View's new outdoor amphitheater. There was a big Apple Computer tent at the shows of course.

This performance is older than my existence. I got engaged and excited back then. Nothing happened. Now why are we living like this. Ridgeway was smart to tap out. It warms me to see this performance and I come back for comfort.
I have never lost my interest in Wall of Voodoo after hearing Mexican Radio while watching on MTV. Then the song Don't Box Me In which helped to highlight the Frances Ford Coppola 'art film for teenagers' Rumble Fish. The movie and song must have come out after this show. (Don't Box Me In not on playlist). Almost hard to believe this was 41 years ago! Yep I was just 15 when I first heard Stan Ridgeway/Wall of Voodoo. It still has a unique sound. Hints of Prince and the Revolution; and The Velvet Underground come to mind. Honestly this is the most I have listened to this band on one sitting. Great video. Feel like I've been treated to a rare great find 😎
Glad I found this. These guys were an insanely original and great musicians and performers. I'm happy to hear all the other positive comments after all these years!
Back in Flesh! Great to see these guys in concert, don't think they ever came to Australia. Dark Continent had a huge influence on us as teenagers! What a great band, still listen to them regularly.
WoW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is a very special performance, I cannot believe how good they are!!! Wall of Voodoo was a band of artists and musicians and its to bad they broke up soon after this show..
The Stan R fronted WOV broke up. But they brought in the excellent Andy Preiboy as a new singer and a new drummer and lasted until 1988 releasing 2 studio albums and a superb live album which featured songs from both WOV era's. This version of the band were just as good (eg Brilliant) . Moreover, Stan R although a superb lyricist did not compose the band's music. The Moreland Brothers (rip Mark) did this . In fact Mark had the original idea for "Mexican Radio" . In addition Andy after a nervy start in 1984 became an assured and confident lead singer. Furthermore he also composed and wrote lyrics. My fav WOV track (and I like loads from 1979-88) is "wrong way to Hollywood"- which was Andy's track: Stan R's contribution to WOV is overrated as much as I love his vocals and lyrics. Note Andy's solo stuff is far more interesting than Stan's far more "downmarket commercia"l stuff. Andy has also written a book and musical. nuff said
Jem'isha Bippo "you suck along with all the other garbage you watch on you tube" Evidently the same garbage you watch as I saw WOV 9 times in the 1980's including both eras of the band . Best band I have ever seen both incarnations. So join the" garbage club" (LOL) Thanks for noticing and clearly appreciating my input ! must stick in your crow eh (LMAO) Wouldn't normally feed a (infantile/abusive ) troll like you but on this occasion I will . I was also on the guest list for WOV in London (Preiboy era) met all the band and I also met Stan and Joe from the early 80's version. As you say Andy was a nice guy and so were the others, and Marc and Joe (rip) You are entitled to your opinion re AP era WOV . Many would agree with you but many would not. Moreover, SR was not responsible for that brilliant music he was a great lyric writer and lead singer . But the Moreland Brothers' and Chas wrote the majority of the WOV mark 1 era's music- SR only contributed bits. Andy contributed music and lyrics to WOV mark 2 (including my fav song "wrong way to Hollywood" I saw the Andy era WOV 7 times and did not see a smoke machine and I am not keen on those myself generally. Your comment on "crappy songs" in the Andy era is hilarious because of the point I have made above Wall of voodoo's music Mark 1 and mark 2 was composed largely by the same 3 people. So ergo if the songs were crap in the AP era they must have been crap in the SR era. I hope you have learned some thing but I doubt it trolls don't learn only crash and burn Sucker. (LMFAO)
Jem'isha Bippo Ah the troll doesn't like it when his argument is undermined and disabled by some one with more knowledge and nous I like Stan R but he did not compose the band's music . Credit where credit is due !
The Wall of Voo Doo did two shows at the fabled Atlanta club "688". I was there for both. They were promoting their album "Call of the West" which I consider a rock masterpiece to this very day. If memory serves me, they had their equipment stolen on this gig and had to improvise. The show was simply mesmerizing on both nights. Stan Ridgway was every bit the showman PT Barnum had in mind. Yet it was Marc Moreland's Spanish influenced guitar work that stood out to me. Had the Wall of Voo Doo remained as a band, they could have been one of America's finest. Unfortunately, they broke up a year later. Internal strife and infighting. Ironically, on the 25th anniversary of Call of the Wild, Stan toured supporting the music using NO members left of the original band. I saw that one too at Smith's Olde Bar. Incredible lyrics to this song. The lyrics alone rival anything Zane Grey wrote about the American West. It's hard to believe this show is coming up on 40 yrs now.
I remember meeting them in the 80 at City Gardens and partied with them all night talking about Kraftwork, B52's and westerns they were amazing cheers SS

I love their sense of harmonic dissonance. Fiercly orignal band.
I am in that crowd near the front. Super fun weekend, and the low cost. Thanks Woz!!!
Here for wall of voodoo in 2022
Happy new year!
This performance took place at the second US Festival, held at Glen Helen Regional Park in the Devore neighborhood of San Bernardino, southern California, USA. There were 670,000 people in the crowd.
“We made it! Now what do we do?” My favorite summation of achieving success in the music industry.
They played all over LA back in the day. Really good show at the Whiskey.
There last ever show ! Going out with a bang !
1st day of US Festival II & i was there!!
Man this show took me back in time. Lost weekend........
I got to see Wall of Voodoo in 1983. I was hooked instantly. Still listening to Call of the West.
Great music, great live performance !!
The American Pickers were over here trying to buy my Dark Continent and Call of the West albums. I told 'em to get lost!
Oblique Strat Seriously? I never would have guessed that Frank and Mike were Wall of Voodoo fans!
Haha maybe I'll saa ya on the TV, I'd never sell my copies of those albums either especially after spending 3 years trying to find dark continent
Damn, that's too funny, some Frank Fritz & Mike Wolf were trying to land your old copies of Dark Continent & Call of the West... 😆 I've always wanted them to roll up to my place & give me they're worn out introduction so I could lead them on the wild goose chase of a lifetime... They seem like decent enough guys that could take a good joke...
Thats too funny. Dark Continent very rare now.
@@35sixer So many pointless remaster or reissues out there. I want these albums easily available, I just don't understand why is taking them so long?
Thank you! I was there, and I've been looking for this for ages, knowing the entire show was filmed.
I saw these guys at the Whisky a Go Go in the early 80s a loooong time ago!
Good memories! 😁😁
This is amazing--thanks for sharing this! I can't believe how great they sounded live, and that, shortly after this set, Stan decided to walk away from WOV due to how crazy their success started to make them. Stan is the only harmonica player I've ever enjoyed listening to. The guy's a genius.
These guys could be the most under rated band in all of music history.
Did anyone notice Steve Wozniak introduced them? What a blast from the past!
Steve was who put together the "US" festivals for a few years at Mountain View's new outdoor amphitheater. There was a big Apple Computer tent at the shows of course.
+Jamesquarebush ...and his kid was chewing on the microphone....i think this whole show was Apple's idea
Oh my God, this band is WAAAYYY too cool... Ugh... WHY?!?!0_0
didn't make it to this one, but wall of voodoo is awesome
.
Saw them a few times in L.A. and O.C. always a kick ass show
Some kind of magic? Can't get enough of this video. Thank you for upload!
So unique and under rated
I was six years old 🎉 when this was recorded. It still sounds awesome 😎. What a time to be alive 🎉
Hard to believe this was their last show!!! Glad we have this great footage!!
Last one with Ridgway, Noland and Nanini.
Oh wow I didn't know this! This set is KILLER.
Love music from this time, so much original talent.
What a crowd, like if it was a Van Halen concert ..
I m glad they had such an audience, I m a french guy in Paris who bought their tapes, like I bought tapes of the Cramps, xtc, b52's , new order, I miss the times, all the music around me is stupid and tasteless, I am a reactionary I suppose:)
Yeah baby!! The 80's,check out the Roland Tr-808 drum machine to Joe Nanini's right which was used alot in their music,W.O.V. one of my fav bands!! R.I.P Joe and Chicken Head!! I will now spit and have the wind blow it back in my face.
First time I ever saw them they were the opening act for XTC and the reason I went to the show. Oh yeah, Hazel O'Connor was also on the bill.
Cool show! Love the original banbd and their often peppy fresh yet dark apocalyptic sound
Call of the West is a classic album. Too bad this kind of music didn't really have a future in the US..
Thanks much -- who can deny the genius that is WALL OF VOODOO?
This performance is older than my existence. I got engaged and excited back then. Nothing happened.
Now why are we living like this. Ridgeway was smart to tap out. It warms me to see this performance and I come back for comfort.
Holly F..Thanks to the poster!!!!..These dudes were wacked.. So awesome.
I absolutely LOVE these guys
I was introduced to them from a compilation record called
urgh a music war
Same here, but it was the film instead of the record.
Film first, then I went and bought the record.
Thanks for the posting, awesome to see them LIVE if only on video
Glad I found this. These guys were an insanely original and great musicians and performers. I'm happy to hear all the other positive comments after all these years!
Great band, one of the better of ever .. Stan was incredible also as songwriter.
ERMAHGERD I loved these guys so much back in the day! Their version of Ring Of Fire was the first one I ever heard, 'cuz I didn't grow up in the US.
Cracks me up they are playing these weird songs for hundreds of thousands of people
And they were playing in the sunny daytime. What troopers. Don't you hate it when artists take chances making their music. Thank you.
Back in Flesh! Great to see these guys in concert, don't think they ever came to Australia. Dark Continent had a huge influence on us as teenagers! What a great band, still listen to them regularly.
Yeah they did. Even programmed a whole night of Rage.
Goddamn - Stan, Joe Nanini, Marc Moreland, Chas - these guys were FUCKING amazing.
In fact Mark had the original idea for "Mexican Radio"
. In addition Andy after a nervy start in 1984 became an assured and confident lead singer. Furthermore he also composed and wrote lyrics. My fav WOV track (and I like loads from 1979-88) is "wrong way to Hollywood"- which was Andy's track:
Stan R's contribution to WOV is overrated as much as I love his vocals and lyrics. Note Andy's solo stuff is far more interesting than Stan's far more "downmarket commercia"l stuff. Andy has also written a book and musical. nuff said
Jem'isha Bippo Wow !
What a considered insightful thoughtful comment. Thanks for that you will go far TROLL
Jem'isha Bippo "you suck along with all the other garbage you watch on you tube"
Evidently the same garbage you watch as I saw WOV 9 times in the 1980's including both eras of the band
. Best band I have ever seen both incarnations. So join the" garbage club" (LOL)
Thanks for noticing and clearly appreciating my input ! must stick in your crow eh (LMAO)
Wouldn't normally feed a (infantile/abusive ) troll like you but on this occasion I will .
I was also on the guest list for WOV in London (Preiboy era) met all the band and I also met Stan and Joe from the early 80's version. As you say Andy was a nice guy and so were the others, and Marc and Joe (rip)
You are entitled to your opinion re AP era WOV . Many would agree with you but many would not. Moreover, SR was not responsible for that brilliant music he was a great lyric writer and lead singer . But the Moreland Brothers' and Chas wrote the majority of the WOV mark 1 era's music- SR only contributed bits.
Andy contributed music and lyrics to WOV mark 2 (including my fav song "wrong way to Hollywood"
I saw the Andy era WOV 7 times and did not see a smoke machine and I am not keen on those myself generally.
(LMFAO)
Jem'isha Bippo Ah the troll doesn't like it when his argument is undermined and disabled by some one with more knowledge and nous
I like Stan R but he did not compose the band's music . Credit where credit is due !
You is a smart little bitch IMO! LOL
these guys were a HUGE influence on me....cool to see a show like this again...thanks for posting...
These guys were on to something. Something special. Something untouchable.
Absolutely brilliant, such a great sound. From a complete WoV fan from UK.
I play back in flesh all the time when getting ready for work!
An Amazingly Brilliant band! Glad to see a flawless live performance with so much charisma!
I saw them in 666 club in Barcelona but unfortunately without Stan Ridgway already. Still it was one of the concerts of my life ...
"We made it! Now what do we do? Oh! I quit!" Damn happy they created Mexican Radio on the way. Iconic song of the 80's!
I remember meeting them in the 80 at City Gardens and partied with them all night talking about Kraftwork, B52's and westerns they were amazing cheers SS
one of the best post-punk bands ever. Not sure they got the credit they deserve.
One of my all time favorite bands!
Marc Moreland deserves the same kind of kudos that Billy Zoom gets
I have always loved Mexican radio, but never heard any other songs from them! They were great!
I discovered that concert video a month ago and I saw it nearly 20 times...I think its big....unfortunately it does not exist on DVD..
