I remember INXS, Wall of Voo Doo, Motels, Flock of Seagulls, Stray Cats, The Clash, and Men at Work and of course, Oingo Boingo all playing their sets. It was a great day of music. Forty 40 years later, I'm still listening to most of these bands.

I got there early with my friends and we were right up front in the dirt, until they turned on the water sprayers and then we were in the mud……so be glad you were back further where there was some grass! We totally were not expecting the sprayers but it did help keep people from getting over heated since as I recall it was well over 100 degrees in the daytime. We were drinking and smoking all day and I never had to even go pee because I was likely so dehydrated from the heat. It was a great festival!

He is extraordinarily under-rated, because he played in a band that didn't utilize a lot of lead guitar. It's on display in this video. His tapping technique at 9:30 shows a touch that some of the best shredders would envy.
My only issue with his technique is that he plays with the guitar up in his armpit, which is the signature of someone who prefers to play sitting down, which is not "performance" technique.

My uncle introduced me to serious stuff for a kid, his acid rock records, the kinks the tubes vile lyrics so in return I made him take me to this show he did it but only because they opened for the Police and I believe that’s when we decided every concert we could get to across the bridges of rock genre. We grooved together I remember when my boyfriend went to a show for a band called The BackDoors they played The Doors music of course but my uncle said hey you guys wanna go up and dance. Being teenagers this was odd because he’s not your friend even if he sells you or some came up missing. I really had some great times with my uncle, after that show I got up and danced with him for years..I love that man..thank you for giving me something to get through those years without having to say anything he’d break out the records and play the very song you needed & the lyrics to read and it’s healing because my uncle couldn’t show that he loved me he couldn’t say it. His heart was big enough to realize it and to make sure I was okay & “listen to this song” he’d say. if I cried he gave me my space and when he’d come back in the room he’d grab a record that made you wanna dance. ❤❤❤

To experience a live Boingo show was like being infused with instant primordial elation at just being alive and in that moment. Whatever drugs you might be on would be counteracted by an ecstatic natural high that is unachievable chemically. I was fortunate enough to see them several times in the early 80s, including this show, they never disappointed and always left the crowd in awe of their uncompromising energy. It's of no surprise to me that Danny Elfman went on to reach the heights that he achieved.

Holy Moly! I was just a young teen when these guys came out. I haven't seen anything live in many many many years. I remember when I saw the movie Batchlor Party with young Tom Hanks in 1984. Lets not forget one of faves movies in the 80's Sixteen Candles and let's not forget Fast Times at Ridgemont Hight! I would have hated the production in those days. What no in ears?? Ha! Thanks for the upload. Brings back many memories.

Instant transport back 4 decades ago - I also attended both US Festivals - it was only later that Danny collaborated with "Deadman's Party" in Tim Burton's imaginative musical movie Beetlejuice, Theatrical story lyrics and singer songwriter artistry ala Todd Rundgren, Peter Gabriel, Ray Davies, Gary Booker, Ray Charles, Linda Rondstadt and so many more.

I went to the 83 US Festival on Bowie day. I loved going to see live music, but not with a quarter million other people in the blazing sun with absolutely no shade available. I was about a year shy of becoming a huge Boingo fan, and the line-up was promising. U2 was just getting started: they were okay. Saw Pretenders: Chrissie Hynde was and is a certified bad ass. Joe Walsh made me smile, and the only other thing I can recall was how fucking annoying Stevie Nicks and her many undeserved encores were. David Bowie did not take the stage until 10:45 PM. But it was Bowie and worth it.
Long story longer: i exacted my revenge on Miss Nicks years later, when i was working selling jewelry at the Ren Faire and she happened to stop at our booth. I happily sold her $500 worth of lovely jewelry for about $950. She couldn’t have been nicer. My boss was thrilled. I was avenged. And I went on to work for Boingo years later. The End.
