The dollar price shouldn't include the VAT tax so it should be considerably less. I didn't pay any taxes or shipping on the bike I got from crc a couple years ago but there was a 1% currency exchange fee from my bank
@@thomaskuhn6541 CRC pays the duty on bikes. My scout 290 pro just arrived for $2640 shipped to my door. If the currency exchange was as expected it would be around $3500. Around $2500, pretty tough to beat the build spec. Could get one of these and then buy a big Al frame if you really hated it and still have a reasonably priced Hardtail
Buy the bike from CRC no worries about duties or tax to USA. Quick shipping and great service! I’ve bought multiple bikes from chain reaction and have great experiences!
For the record, for EU customers, CRC pays all the customs fees, and therefore you don't have to worry about those (you just pay the lump sum, and the bike is shipped to you without any additional paperwork), but this also adds a non-small amount to the (GBP) price. So the pricing might not be competitive with the EU-internal bikes (eg. Canyon...). But what you see on the webpage in EUR is exactly what you pay.
Thanks for at least giving this one a virtual look, Steve. I know I am one of many voices asking you about this one. And if Nukeproof is listening, it's because Steve is an incredibly important voice when it comes to hardtails. This channel has shaped many opinions on hardtail bikes. This bike is still on my short list of wish bikes but Steve's opinion could really impact that.
It’s pretty amazing how well he knows what the geo will feel like. I think it’s a great trail bike very comfortable to ride for hours but like he said not a race bike. I think it’s honestly set up perfectly for most trails and jumps.
@@hogsrmylifetbj it is a good point he makes about a chain stay that is longer than the reach. I run into the same problem as Steve does. Long torso, short legs.
I have the 2021 comp in 27.5 and I’m loving it so far. Its a riot to ride. Really versatile bike. Loves to jump and feels at home when it’s pointed DH. It climbs great too. I haven’t got a bad word to say about it tbh. Just my opinion tho.
Great feedback, thanks. I just hope people don't think this is a substitute for a ride review. Nothing beats actually riding these bikes. But i get so many questions on this that onwanted to analyze it to help others see what I see.
@@hardtailparty thanks and i hope you get the scout frame from Nukeproof. Or maybe one of the subscribers or friends can lend if they have so that you can give the ride review. Waiting for it
I have a 275 and I love the versatility. I didn’t have the need to have multiple bikes. I have two wheel sets one for XC and one for more robust trail riding and I’m pretty happy with it. I don’t expect it to be the best and keep up with all my buddies on the full squish, but it’s enough to keep it fun. I recommended my friends to get the entry race model since it was cheap. I just checked it but when I looked at the bike back then it was only $1099 for a full boost bike. Now it’s $1400. I feel with how things are nowadays with hard tails, there is much more to choose from. I think asides from the Scout, the Vitus Sentier is a great buy too at $1500 and it comes with a 11 speed and a marzocchi z2.
I have just built a 290. I put a 140 Yari on it. Fantastic bike. It climbs well, but I have experienced better descending. I bought a blue frame only option. I rode a Mondraker Vantage prior to this. Fantastic bike
I have a scout i built my self in 27.5 and love it! i put on 160mm fox 36. takes what ever i can throw at it. rode the whole enchilada, colorado, and the PNW. my favorite bike for sure that's a hardtail.
Great review - exactly the sort of information so beneficial to people looking to buy these bikes. I think part of the hype for this bike is due to GMBN where one of the presenters rides/features this bike regularly and rode the Megavalanche on it with a longer fork.
I have a Scout 290 frame. It’s definitely a stiff riding frame. Built it up with 29er wheels and 2.4” wide tires. Think it would be way better and more supple with plus wheel setup. Cheers!
Great review. I feel this is the precursor to you actually getting to review one. I like how you’ve done more budget bikes like the Fuse, Roscoe, etc. average person will fall in those categories. You reach all riders. Look forward to you getting one and to your review to see how it compares to others. Keep it up!
This bike was off my radar, but I needed some paint and repairs in my 17 Marin nailtrail 6. Clicked on the scout , saw it was available in XXL . After ordering it I searched for reviews. Looks like a beast I'll enjoy. I travel and use my hardtail as transportation, and exploration. I think it will be a great trail bike. Looking forward to building it. Would have bought the complete bike, but in my size, that wasn't an option.
Great choice for a virtual review. I've long liked the idea of a Nukeproof Scout 290. A nice, no-nonsense hardtail. But that geo might be a non-starter.
I’d definitely add the Vitus Sentier to the virtual look list. I have the 27.5 version and love it but it definitely has its own ride character. I call it my MTB beach cruiser. It’s very laid back feeling and I could pedal it all day at 50%. Great bike for riding with kids and family.
I looked at the Vitus Sentier when I bought my HT. Unfortunately, Its geometry appears to be stuck in the past. It has slack seat angles, Massive long seat tubes (520mm seat tube for a 468mm reach !?!?!?) which are almost 10cm longer than some other brands. Maybe it was designed before dropper posts existed? Its a shame as the bikes look great.
I got the 275 Race in size S because it was the only bike I could get my hands on at the time. While I am still a newbie to mtb, a lot of the things you say about the geometry makes a lot of sense such as the reach to chainstay ratio. It's a great starting point for me and I'm having a lot of fun learning how to ride, but it's also good to translate what I feel on the trail and relate it to the frame geometry. This will come in handy for an upgrade later down the road and gives me a 'rough' idea of how another bike might feel compare to mine when looking at the geometry.
The price of this bike went up considerably from last year. I paid just under $2,000 shipped to the US for my comp. I found the seated position to feel really long while the standing position felt natural (5’10” on a large) even after slamming the seat forward and mounting the stem at its highest point on the steerer. I had to swap the 170mm dropper for a 150 as well like Steve mentioned as well.
I was just using a currency converter online, so prices may vary. But yes, prices in general have gone way up in the industy lately. Some companies have seen shipping costs triple in the space of a month.
At 5’9” I’m in the same boat, however I bought the medium, it feels perfect seated but a little short standing, however that does make it feel just way more playful
Hey, nice to see you live. Great content. I used to own a Scout comp 29er with 130mm travel. Great bike but to me not playfull enough, it felt a little stuck in its tracks and its quite a harsch ride. Ordered myself a sirius pipedream after watching your video on it. Really hyped for building it. :)
Love the videos on all your hardtails, keep up the great work. Would love to see your opinions on hardtails for taller riders (6”6” +). Coming from a Saracen team elite (built myself 20years ago) and now time for modern upgrade. Keep it up.
I recently built up the 27.5 from the frame to a similar spec to the "comp". You are right, it does have a shorter reach. It is compact but I love that, as I use it for street riding mostly and the short reach with modern slacker head tube angle makes for a very nice balance of agility and stability and offers a very engaging ride. In my opinion, anyway. Just a great package.
Bought the 27.5 pro model last year. Awesome bike, can’t fault it in any way. Looks great as well, hope to enjoy it for a good few years. Love the channel. Keep up the good work 👍 Greetings from Ireland ☘️
Just a small note to say that ragley are also part of the crc family, same as vitus & nukeproof however the overheads for ragley in terms of advertising, pro riders/race team are way smaller so for a hardtail you will find your best value for money with ragley over nukeproof or vitus
If you wanna try the comp model in 27.5 you’re welcome to make a visit! I think you’re spot on with the analysis of being a short reach it’s a tad unstable at steep downhill sections but the frame is very stiff but comfortable. It’s a great trail bike!
I have a 2021 scout 275 race and I think it's a great bike for anyone looking for their second mountain bike after owning one of those entry level xc hardtails. If you're getting more into mountain biking and trail riding the scout will be great and it wont break the bank like a lot of other bikes out there. The comp is the sweet spot price wise but I think the race is really solid for the price I would just recommend a dropper post right away. The recon fork will be fine for most people but that can be upgraded later on so the initial cost isn't as much. Also I really like the blue so that's why I went with the race :p
Steve, so glad you did this virtual look. I came sooooo close to purchasing this bike, but the sizing and geo...well, I just couldn't get it to work for me. I didn't want to gamble that much for an online bike. NP and Ragley dealer's are a little scarce in MA. Would love for you to run through the geo chart on a Ragley! Thanks again, regards.
I ordered my 290 Elite just the other and now I find this analysis :) I decided between the spark 750 on sale and the 290. I have had a couple of mountainbikes during the year and the most funny bike I have ever own were the 1992 Marin Eldrige Grade with cromo frame and fork. Therefore I ordered the 290 :) A cromo would probably been the best choice but I couldnt find any for a good price...
Hi, I've had the 290 comp since last August, ordered in the UK in January but recieved in August. I weigh 112kg and regularity frequent more downhill oriented parks in England(Rogate, Tidworth) and I can honestly say this is a stiff frame that climbs well. Also just for your information the comp comes stock with 4 pot front and rear deore calipers that lock onto 203 front and 180mm rear which stop me more than adequately for a larger rider!!! Anyway, really enjoyed your review and will definitely be subscribing. 🤟🤟
Good luck getting one. My Scout frame was stuck in a FedEx facility with a U.S. customs hold for almost a month, waiting for a customs agent to contact me. The customs agent never contacted me. My order (frame, wheelset, misc. parts) finally got sent back to CRC. I did finally get a refund after a few nasty emails to CRC. My suggestion is to make multiple orders, if your order total is over $1000, which is roughly the amount that triggers a customs inspection. Not much help if you are ordering a complete bike, though.
Excellent work as always, Steve. Once I've saved up again after getting braces for my daughter, I will be getting your Patreon service. Next, Canyon Stoic please ! 🙏
Just got my Scout 275 frame in concrete gray and will be building it in the next few weeks. Will be building it up with a Fox 36 160mm performance elite, Code R brakes, 11 speed drivetrain mix of XT shifter with SLX derailleur and cassette 11-46 with XTR trail cranks, Crankbrothers Highline 170mm dropper, Dt swiss h 1900 wheels. I will also be using just about the whole catalogue of Nukeproof horizon parts all in the anodised purple colour which should go really well with the concrete gray frame. The last hardtail I rode, and still own, was my 2008 Norco Sasquatch so I'm hoping the slightly dated geo will still be far better than it!
Having owned the 27.5 version, a ragley big Al, a honzo esd, having ridden a meta ht, this bike rides way better than the geo numbers suggest and it rides really good. Not ragley good but close with the best power transfer during a sprint out of all of my hardtails.
I'm glad you shared that. It really highlights how important an actual ride review is vs an online analysis. I hope i get the chance to review one and see if it rides like the geo chart suggests.
@@hardtailparty admittedly, the seat is slack and could be steeper but this frame came out on 2018 and it was pretty hardcore at the time. I would say it is due for an update.
Completely agree with your observations here, built up a custom XL of these, and enjoyed some parts of it, but ultimately the geo wasn't right and the reach and low stack meant that it felt too cramped (luckily it fits my partner perfectly). It actually climbed super well and felt nimble on the trail, which made it fun to ride, but it didn't fair so well when the going got rougher, and I felt it got knocked off line easily. The frame to me felt harsh at times, however I am comparing that to my current taival K4 which feels very dampened and is obviously a very different geo. For the price of the frame, they are pretty capable and would work for a lot of people. It's interesting that nukeproof don't go with taller stack heights considering they are very enduro focussed, I have a 290 mega and it is one of my biggest gripes with that frame also!
Thanks for doing this Steve, we've been waiting to hear your thoughts on this bike for a while! Maybe Nukeproof should send you the M and you should try as a 29er and with 27.5+ tires. I'm also 5'6"-5'7", I would definitely be curious what your thoughts are on any 27.5 version of this bike.
Love your thoughts on this bike. I'm 175cm and recently build up the 275 frame, in a medium with a Zeb slammed to 150, 35mm reach stem and 700mm wide bars, 165 cranks and rolling on Zipp 3zero wheels. It is an absolute blast to ride up and down stuff. I love the shorter feel up front, I actually feel stronger on the bike and in much more control. On paper I'm definitely doing the opposite of what's on trend at the moment.
I have a 2020 NP Scout 275 in a size small. I'm 5'6" with a 29" inseam. I was able to stick a 170mm dropper in with about an inch to spare. The front does feel quite short but it makes it very comfortable to ride for miles on XC rides. Despite this I don't really feel like I'm going to get tossed OTB when pointed downhill. The rear end is quite stiff though. Here in PA there are tons of rocks and I do get bounced around a bit.
The 290 has around a 10mm shorter stack than the Ragley Big Al in XL so I dispute the 'built for the tallest of riders' claim. Even with 653mm of stack, I have a 50mm riser installed! I'm 6'5" btw.
I have the 2021 275 Scout Pro. Went to do my yearly upgrades and really didnt need to. Everything on it is great. Might get a Sam Hill oil slick stem though…..
I just took delivery on mine. Can’t wait to get out on it. I can say this now that I have mine but someone at chain reaction doesn’t understand exchange rate. The pro is 2449gbp or $2499. Should be $3300 with the correct exchange rate. Can you do something where you talk about the relationship between stack and reach? I was hung up in the reach also but the taller stack kinda gets the distance from cranks to stem similar to bikes with low stacks and longer reach. Great video. Hopefully you can get one to ride soon. Would be great to hear your post ride feedback
Really enjoyed this one, thanks! I bought a 290 Race last year which was my first 29r & first MTB since my 2005 Chameleon. I definitely should've bought a higher spec since I've already replaced just about everything. That said, the bike is a ton of fun & handles everything I ride. Can't wait to see what you think when you get one in your hands.
I have the 2021 Nukeproof scout 290 , I have the Medium I’m 5’7 and it climbs and rolls over nicely. Only downside I’m having is turning on berms fast like my 27.5
i have a 290 150mm lyriks people tell me there is a SCOUT FACEBOOK group think its GEO has been like this for few years - who knows it may get tweaked but manufacture has been slow last 2 years the finish on the nukeproof is amazing for the price
I ordered the pro version earlier this week. I had my choices down to the Commencal Meta HT Race, Scout 290, and Stoic 4. Wanted the Commencal but it sold out in XL. I'm 6' 2 and decided to go XL on the Scout as well. I have looked for months and finally decided I probably needed an XL in these modern HTs. Wasn't sure about that seat tube on the Scout XL. We shall see 🙂.
I have an XL scout at 6’3” but most of my length is in my torso. I had to swap the dropper to get the right seat height. I went with the OneUp 180mm which despite being longer travel has a shorter stack and is adjustable down to 170 or 160 if needed.
Thank you, thank you for this review! Wish Nukeproof would just send you a Scout already lol I was able to buy my 290 Comp when they were going for $1,500-ish. Also interesting to see the Comp comes with 2 pots now, they were specced with 4 pot Deore's (which mine has)...parts shortage? Either way, love the bike! I'm 5'10.5" and size L feels perfect...then again, I haven't ridden nearly as many hardtails as you! Hope you get to ride one soon :)
It’s a stiff frame. Current generation was originally developed for 4cross. I used it today at Spider Mountain in Tx and with 2.6 Hans Dampf inflated to Schwalbe’s recommended tubeless pressure it didn’t beat me up at all. I feel great, the bike handled great but I’m a heavier rider too.
@@hardtailparty I was rewatching your Spider Mountain video when this popped up. Thanks for all you do, much appreciated! I’m 5’8” 230lbs on a medium 425 reach with a 50mm stem. 30” inseam and relatively muscular build. Came to this from a full sus 460 reach and 35mm stem and feel much better here. Hope this helps and if I can give you any more detail to help please let me know.
👍great tutorial video, it would be interesting to see what you think on the ride of the scout, and if you would've gone for the ragley big Al, over the two
I confirmed with nukeproof that it will take up to a 29x2.6 (the spec sheet says 2.5 and 2.6 in different spots). I haven’t had enough time on it to say much yet, but it’s much more playful than the 2020 Roscoe. It’s super easy to manual. I got it with more bikepacking and climbing in mind, so at 5’9” I went with a medium, and I think it feels similar to the M/L Roscoe. I wish there was somewhere I could have test rode a large, but I think it’s a decent frame for the money, despite the seat tube angle. The blue is gorgeous in person.
Great stuff. I look at all these web sites for frames or complete builds, so it’s fun to see you analysis and talk about them. Somebody drive your Nukeproof to Steve’s house for Gods sake! I did Patreon with you and got the RSD middlechild. Worth every penny, very pleased with my choice. Now I want to sign up again. If I sign up for Patreon tomorrow do I get 30 days till the next installment or is it a certain day in the month that it is charged. Thanks again for your reviews. To be honest at this point I wouldn’t feel confident ordering one of these bikes online without hearing your ride review of it. Lastly the starling roost and the squash, English bikes I think, you got to tell us what they are like. They look great!
Ok great. It’s the beginning of the month now so talk to you soon. Your going to have to talk me out of the Soltice mullet and I live in Novato Ca. So you better bring your a game!
Coming from the perspective of someone who’s 190cm: geometry wise I mostly agree with you on everything. It would be a great “xc” hardtail for someone but I bet it’s heavier then most? 140mm is also just needed for something like that. 440mm chainstays are actually almost long enough for descending on something with a longer front Center but probably feels bad on this. with such a slack seat angle I bet it unweights the wheel crazy for someone tall.
I doubt it does The BB is low and the chainstays are long. with a 65 head angle the front wheel is still fairly far forward. My Scandal has a slack seat angle for someone with long legs, like me.
You might actually try the under-forking the medium frame with a 120mm fork like the new SID or a Fox 34. It might actually put you right back in the acceptable geometry range, possibly similar to that of a Spot Rocker or something like that. I agree that the Ragley might ride better.
I always wanted a Nukeproof Scout 275, but once I compared the geo to the Ragley Marley, I went in that direction. At 5'9" ish I had the same thoughts about chainstay length vs reach, but in a size medium, the Marley's chainstays are 15mm shorter with a reach right between the medium and large Nukeproof with a similar HA. I went with the green color paired to a used Rockshox Pike and Box Carbon wheels wrapped tan wall Teravail Honcho's in 2.6 with a Microshift Advent X drivetrain and Magura trail sport brakes. My only complaint is the seat tube could be a tad steeper, and my tire choice is slightly overkill for cranking out the fire road miles. I'm going to give a Maxxis Rekon tan walls in 2.8s a try, but I have a feeling I might miss the cornering support of the Honcho's.In Its current set up, it eats up the socal chunk and hasn't leave me feeling under-biked yet. I've hit far gnarly stuff than I thought I could, so my full sus has only seen the light of day twice since I built up the Marley. Not to mention it's an absolutely enchanting visual object. Almost like a British Racing Green over tan sports car. My full sus is a last gen Nukeproof Mega that I stripped the paint off of for a raw aluminum finish. I would've loved having the raw finished matching bikes, but I've very happy with my choice. I know you reviewed the Mmmbop, would love to get your take on a Marley. Also, if you ever make it out to socal or the LA area, I would love to see what you have to say about Rocky Peak trails compared to Sedona. It's been a minute since I've picked my way through Hummingbird on a hardtail, watching someone of your talents would be awesome. Lots of slabs and chunk with drops and rock rolls, kitty litter dirt conditions 9 months out of the year.
@@hardtailparty I get your point but I think it’s hypocritical of you to say you’d take 100k salary and use a bad bike and at the same time say you don’t want a sponsor so you can ride any bike you want.
So it's pretty much a Ragley, but with Geometry numbers from 8 years ago. (Edit: 5 years ago). Looking at the tubing junctions, I wouldn't be surprised if these are made in the same factory and yet they're priced £100 more than the Aluminium Ragley frames.
They're owned by the same parent company, so I have a hunch they are built in the same factory. Did eaglet have a slack head angle like this 8 years ago?
@@hardtailparty Maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but my 2017 Ragley Marley in a size Medium, had similar reach and HA numbers to the 2022 Scout….In fact it was 5mm longer, and that’s considered their ‘trail’ hardtail 🤣 I sold that frame because it just felt tiny in comparison to my more modern full suspension bike. I went from that, to a Cotic BFe (nice and long but a little low on the stack) and now on a Medium Bigwig which is just about right for me. I really want to love the Scout, but based on these numbers I wouldn’t spend my hard earned £££, just to go back in time 5 years. I couldn’t size up either, because I’d be in the same boat as you, unable to run a long enough dropper. I really hope they revise it a little bit soon, can’t wait to see your full ride review of the current version though 🤘🏼
I tried to purchase one about 3 years ago, but they ran out of size large. It would have been a fantastic deal, Full Shimano SLX 11spd w/ a Fox Performance 34 for $1800....I believe it was the previous model year, but regardless by the time I placed my order I got a notification that the large was Out of Stock
Hey Steve! I have a medium Scout 27.5 frame that is sitting around. It is pretty much new. I would be happy to send it to you if you would like to review it. Let me know!
Thank you so much for this Video Steve 🙏🙏🙏 . I have a Scout M 275. The reach Length it’s the same as the 290 , 425 but look to be longer as it’s written on the geometry charts. I am comfortable on it. The barre looks to be not too close or not too far. By the way I am 178 cm. hopefully you will make one day a review of this bike 🚲
Love the Scout. Was close to ordering one, but went with the Growler. Got word today that my Growler 50 will take two months longer to reach my LBS. Preordered it early January. Delivery date went from late febuary, to early march, to late may. Really disappointed, but I know my LBS people aren't at fault. Should I cancel the order and look elsewhere for different brands and bikes or just accept the market at the moment and keep waiting? The Scout looks great. But wait times are probably as bad for any other brand I assume?
@@hardtailparty yeah man am from UK and it on there website type nukeproof bikes 2022 and at bottom it says Scout and Digger, lets just put a “coming soon” tab on this. But we have just delivered some of the current models to cover the dela
The geo on the XL scout is fairly similar to the big Al is it not? 1 degree slacker seat angle and 15mm shorter wheelbase, but otherwise everything is within 10mm. You really rated the ragley so would be interested to see what you make of one of these
Hello, I am seriously thinking about buying the scout 275 frame, my height is 1.63 mts or 5.4, but I´m also considering other brands such as Dartmoor Hornet or Salsa Timberjack. If I wanted your advice, it's only through Patreon, right? Greetings from Lima - Peru
I have heard the same thing from a lot of people saying that the Marzocchi Z2 and the Fox Rhythm are the same fork. I respectfully disagree. The dampers are different. The rebound and compression knobs on the Rhythm feel like a quality piece, while the Z2 feels cheap and "plasticky." I own a Rhythm 34 at 150 travel and love it. I never rode a Z2 but seen it on OEM bikes. The Z2 makes noises foreign to my Rhythm on "squish" tests.
I weigh 180 pounds with your type of build: 5-8 with alligator arms and legs. It came off a friend’s Stumpjumper, but it’s currently on a 2019 Banshee Prime. It’s ultimate destination with be on an RSD Wildcat, 2022 edition.
@@hardtailparty Edward has a point. The Z2 has a unique lower with bushings that can NOT be replaced. If the bushing wear, you basically junk the lowers or the whole fork. Google "Z2 bushing failure for the full horror stories" being experienced out there.
I would say the frame on the scout is better for more rough riding and downhill. The sentier I would assume is a slightly better climber from the geometry.
@@christophermartinez6429 the geo isn’t that much different tho. The Sentier actually has a slightly longer reach but a shorter chainstay (at least on my 27.5). I don’t ride extremely sketchy downhill stuff (mainly because there really isn’t any) so the playfulness of my Sentier is awesome.
I enjoyed you going over the geometry of the bike. I’m just curious that you left out the wheelbase numbers. Doesn’t the wheelbase number have a great effect on whether or not the bike has a quicker or slower response to rider input? Is there a certain wheelbase range that is ideal for certain conditions and not others? Thanks again
For pricing i was converting GBP to USD. Prices appear noticeably lower on CRC
The 2022 bikes that nukeproof released went up $1000 with the gbp cost staying the same.

Awesome. Hardtails are so good at that.

Yes. Blake is a fantastic rider. He also gets paid by nukeproof to ride it.
I have a Scout 290 frame. It’s definitely a stiff riding frame. Built it up with 29er wheels and 2.4” wide tires. Think it would be way better and more supple with plus wheel setup. Cheers!
Awesome! I’ve been waiting to hear your thoughts on this one. I hope you can get your hands on one sometime.
Great review. I feel this is the precursor to you actually getting to review one. I like how you’ve done more budget bikes like the Fuse, Roscoe, etc. average person will fall in those categories. You reach all riders. Look forward to you getting one and to your review to see how it compares to others. Keep it up!
Hopefully i can get one one-day
We all hope you can get one. Another bike would be the Giant Fathom. Thoughts?
I'm 5'10 also I feel like bikes aren't made for our size lol
@@alabaster4263 talk to hardtailparty on Patreon and he’ll help you find a bike that fits perfect for your size and riding style!
At 5’9” I’m in the same boat, however I bought the medium, it feels perfect seated but a little short standing, however that does make it feel just way more playful
Great video!
No matter how many of your videos I see there's always something new I learn 👌
Hey, nice to see you live. Great content. I used to own a Scout comp 29er with 130mm travel. Great bike but to me not playfull enough, it felt a little stuck in its tracks and its quite a harsch ride. Ordered myself a sirius pipedream after watching your video on it. Really hyped for building it. :)
Looking at the geo, i can see why it felt stuck in its tracks. Enjoy the Sirius!
Love the videos on all your hardtails, keep up the great work. Would love to see your opinions on hardtails for taller riders (6”6” +). Coming from a Saracen team elite (built myself 20years ago) and now time for modern upgrade. Keep it up.
I am three rides in on a 27.5 pro. Great value for money.
I enjoyed this review. The boutique bikes are out of my price range, so this one had my attention as a possible future consideration.
Thanks for your videos I really appreciate them ❤️
I have this bike and LOVE it. This bike is NOT a XC bike. It's a trail hardtail.
Just a small note to say that ragley are also part of the crc family, same as vitus & nukeproof however the overheads for ragley in terms of advertising, pro riders/race team are way smaller so for a hardtail you will find your best value for money with ragley over nukeproof or vitus
I love this bike . Bravo from Greece Steve...
The price on the CRC web site is actually 1799 USD for Com, and 1399 for Race
I have the same model. This bike invites you to just pop off of every bump and side hit. Much more fun than my previous 68 HA 29er.

I love all your content! Best youtube page i follow! Keep on like you doing! 👑
Thanks!
The price today on CRC for the comp model is 1899 for the comp and 2499 for the pro. They seem to be priced better in the US
Wow, that is a much better price.
The update might be on the works as we speak since they didn't release the scout for their 2022 line up.
@Steve I have a 290 built up. I am coming up to MTB festival this weekend if you want to give it a ride let me know.
Say hi if you see me. I'd love to throw a leg over it.
Wow, those are some narrow bars. Glad you're loving it.
@@hardtailparty yeah mate, pretty narrow. I've just never felt comfortable or strong on wide bars
@hardtailparty thanks Steve for this review maybe you will receive one in the near future!
I would love to see a review on the Marin San Quentin.
I've ridden a few. It's not my favorite bike, the review won't be very favorable.
Great analysis! I was wondering if you're planning on making a virtual analysis of the Canyon Stoic.
I'd like to do that one eventually.
i like the virtual look kind of a cool idea
Glad you're loving yours.
Great info I love my scout! If you're ever in Southern Missouri I have a 2020 Nukeproof Scout 290 Expert size large you can test ride.
I have the 2021 Nukeproof scout 290 , I have the Medium I’m 5’7 and it climbs and rolls over nicely. Only downside I’m having is turning on berms fast like my 27.5

but manufacture has been slow last 2 years
the finish on the nukeproof is amazing for the price
I ordered the pro version earlier this week. I had my choices down to the Commencal Meta HT Race, Scout 290, and Stoic 4. Wanted the Commencal but it sold out in XL. I'm 6' 2 and decided to go XL on the Scout as well. I have looked for months and finally decided I probably needed an XL in these modern HTs. Wasn't sure about that seat tube on the Scout XL. We shall see 🙂.
I’ve got the xl scout at 6’ 4. Amazing bike and so much fun!
I have an XL scout at 6’3” but most of my length is in my torso. I had to swap the dropper to get the right seat height. I went with the OneUp 180mm which despite being longer travel has a shorter stack and is adjustable down to 170 or 160 if needed.
I am 6'2" and I have the extra large I have pretty long arms and legs but it fits me great.
@@allgonewrong16 I’m 6’4 as well hearing you say an xl frame fits you is comforting
How much do you weigh? That'll make a big difference. A lot of my heavier riders actually prefer stiffer frames.
It bills on the first day of each month. Patron is trying to fix that, but right now it only bills on the 1st of each month.
Then you'd have a -80mm bb drop
Hi Steve love your channel! Ant interest in reviewing the Canyon Stoic?
Of course. I've been trying to get one since it was announced. No luck.
The best review of this bike is the fact that Blake from GMBN have been riding it for years.+Whistler jumps and Megavalanche
Blake gets paid to ride a nukeproof. He could ride literally any bike and do well. Not to say it's a bad bike, but remember that they pay his salary
@@felixgardberg1083 i don't know what he gets paid, but for $100k a year, I'd ride an uncomfortable bike.
@@hardtailparty Well then do it, with that argument you should be doing something else than mountain biking videos.
@@felixgardberg1083 not sure why you're taking this personally. I'm just pointing out that sponsorships are not the same as reviews.
@@hardtailparty Maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but my 2017 Ragley Marley in a size Medium, had similar reach and HA numbers to the 2022 Scout….In fact it was 5mm longer, and that’s considered their ‘trail’ hardtail 🤣
I sold that frame because it just felt tiny in comparison to my more modern full suspension bike.
Haha I hope they get you one someday. I see the comments all the time asking.

Glad to hear it
I tried to purchase one about 3 years ago, but they ran out of size large. Thank you so much for the offer. I don't currently have a 27.5 fork to build it up with.
This was interesting to watch. Isn't the reach shorter than the Marin and Sherpas you reviewed?

Delivery date went from late febuary, to early march, to late may. Really disappointed, but I know my LBS people aren't at fault. The geo on the XL scout is fairly similar to the big Al is it not? 1 degree slacker seat angle and 15mm shorter wheelbase, but otherwise everything is within 10mm. You really rated the ragley so would be interested to see what you make of one of these

I just got the new ribble 29er in medium enthusiast build...what are your thoughts?
I wish they'd send me one to review, I've been curious about that bike.
Crc has this frame for $450. Its tempting at that price.
If the geo is right, yes.
I should have clarified that I haven't taken them apart to compare. How much do you weigh? Which bike came with a 150mm rhythm 34?
I weigh 180 pounds with your type of build: 5-8 with alligator arms and legs. It came off a friend’s Stumpjumper, but it’s currently on a 2019 Banshee Prime. It’s ultimate destination with be on an RSD Wildcat, 2022 edition.
Z2s use non replaceable bushes that rust. How do I know? By bitter expensive experience. Luckily I hadn't sold my 35 Golds.
@@hardtailparty Edward has a point. The Z2 has a unique lower with bushings that can NOT be replaced. If the bushing wear, you basically junk the lowers or the whole fork. Google "Z2 bushing failure for the full horror stories" being experienced out there.

My goal is to review every modern hardtail on existence. I haven't been able to convince surly to send me one for review.
@@hardtailparty That's crazy. Your channel is just sooo good. Companies should be queueing up to get on.
I paid $1,500 USD for my 2019 Sentier VRX. It’s such a good bike for the price. I wonder if the Nukeproof is any better than the Vitus?
I would say the frame on the scout is better for more rough riding and downhill. The sentier I would assume is a slightly better climber from the geometry.
@@christophermartinez6429 the geo isn’t that much different tho. The Sentier actually has a slightly longer reach but a shorter chainstay (at least on my 27.5). I don’t ride extremely sketchy downhill stuff (mainly because there really isn’t any) so the playfulness of my Sentier is awesome.
Added £300 to the price in 2020. Think they lowered the spec too.
It's more important to notice the rear center and front center than just looking at the wheelbase as a static number.
Any thoughts on a GT Zaskar?
Just assumptions based on what o see online. I'd be happy to share them over on Patreon.
Nukeproof Scout 290 comp. vs Canyon Stoic 3 (european one) vs Trek Roscoe 7.
Sounds like you'd benefit from my bike consultation service on Patreon.
Try the Whyte 905, great hardtail that does seem to climb and descend well
