- Footage of Keith Whitley's funeral and news coverage from local Charleston/Huntington, WV TV stations. Appearing in the video are members of Keith's band Miami, Ricky Skaggs and wife Sharon White, Ralph Emery, Larry Stewart of Restless Heart, and various members of Keith's family.
In commemoration of the 19th anniversary of the passing of Keith Whitley tomorrow, May 9, 2008, and posted by request.
Keith Whitley's death was the time when that hit the nail in Country Music's coffin and died with him. I think he would of been someone just as how George Strait became who he is.

Man, He had "It"! whatever that special magic is that all the greats have, he had it. I still get chills when I hear his voice. Definitely one of the greats! Blew me away when I heard he had passed.
Have become a huge Keith Whitley fan over the years. A great talent lost much to early, but his son Jesse is a young up and comer who if you know what to listen to sound just like his Pappa now and then. When Jesse does his covers its like Keith is alive again.

I was 14 when Keith passed. I remember just crying because you just knew the country music world had such a great singer. Keith is living on through his son Jessie Keith Whitley.
I love his music. I was a child when he died and didn't understand it then. It's a shame he died so young. Lorrie tried to save him, but with any addiction, you have to save yourself. Rest in peace, Keith.
I was only three years old when he died, but have been a fan ever since I can remember. His death still gets to me because I can't imagine the music that we missed out on. If heaven ain't a Keith Whitley concert, I don't want to go.

Its so sad that his life had to end like that. I mean I was just a kid, 7-8 years old when that happened and when I started listening to his music it was already too late

After all these year Keith may be gone but never will he be forgotten. Keith music will live forever in our hearts.
Keith had been playing a long time and getting up on stage was probably where he was most at home.
I've read that he started drinking at an early age.
I also read that he drank alone.
He obviously had a high tolerance for alcohol.
So much, that he teetered on alcohol poisoning every time he drank.
He knew great songs,
and he knew how to deliver.
His voice and his mucic is right up there with country's best.

@kathy2010spears Thanks for the comments. You were right on the money. To answer your question, he only had one biological child and one adopted child, his son with Lorrie and Lorrie's daughter. He did not have any children with Kathy.

Wow... RIP Keith. I was almost 7 when he died. He was awesome... still love his music. Had he not died, Garth Brooks would not have existed. Well, maybe he would have, but he would be in now way as popular as he was.
Keith Whitley... a *true* country singer who left us way too soon.
Next time I'm in Nashville, I want to visit his grave at Spring Hill Cemetery.

RIP Keith you are a great person. I love your voice. and MIss you a great deal. To the people that find it so easy to put people down. Keith never hit Lorrie. They were loves of each others lives. They lived for each other. They have a kind of love that most people will only dream of and never have. Lorrie has said over and over that he will always be her one true love. You can read anything you want to and never that he hurt her or hit her. She Married Sammy Kershaw you will read he hit her

@OutlawAF98 Or that there would even be a crew from the Nashville Network that was there even taping it in the first place for a future story on the funeral, which they wound up broadcasting??? Is that what you're saying? Are you a Keith Whitley fan, or do you just like leaving nasty comments on my videos? Keith Whitley was a celebrity. He was a public figure. Those in his field choose to enter a field where they are under constant public scrutiny. Other singers accept it, & you should, too.

The poor guy was a train wreck waiting to happen. An amazing talent and it is very sad that alcohol had such a hold on his life. He had so much going for him.
I think you have your information wrong. Her fights were with her last husband, Sammy Kershaw, not with her 2nd husband Keith Whitley. Larry King discussed it with Lorrie in 2004. Read the transcript. Google it. She had nothing but nice things to say about Keith, to Larry King and in her book. BTW, have you read the book, or had someone read it to you? The whole book is dedicated to her love affair with Keith Whitley.

He passed away a couple of weeks before I graduated from high school. So sad. Wish he could have gotten help.

That "news" report was nothing short of poor taste and extremely off-the-mark on its subject matter. I've heard and seen a lot of bullshit in reports about entertainers -- but this one is simply disgusting. Not one person here knew Keith, nor apparently had any clue about his lifetime of trying to beat his problems. Don't know who approved the airing of this shoddy report... but the editor in chief of the station must have been on vacation that week. The reporter's 'B-movie' acting would be laughable if this weren't such a sorry event.
