Yes, yes I just started knitting again. My grandmother taught me 5 decades ago but I haven’t knitted for 40+ years. I always crocheted. I’m retired now and you are an amazing teacher. I’ve relearned to knit and purl with you. (I found the Norwegian purl that’s how I was taught but didn’t know what to call it. I knit continental due to my and my grandmother’s affinity to crocheting). Now you have taught me how to cable. I will make a swatch and practice. I have some of her beautiful work from the late 1960s when she taught me to knit and crochet. Her cables in crochet are beautiful but there’s something about knitting cables that blow my mind. She must have cabled like you showed us here, as I never remember her having cable needles. I love the long tutorials. Thanks for you and your sweet, sweet spirit, dear heart.
Chandi, I can watch and listen to you all day. So yes please keep making these long tutorials. I started knitting last November 2019. It has helped me keep my sanity during this pandemic. Your yarns are a work of art! When I get a new package in the mail, I feel like I am opening jewelry. Everything is so beautifully packaged, and the colors are even more fantastic when you see them for real. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us in your channel. Oh, and this cable stich, finally made the concept of knits and purls click!! It was like a veil was lifted and a lightbulb came on!! Can't thank you enough!!
Thank you so much! Yes, knitting can be such a comforting and peaceful activity. I am so excited that the concept resonated with you. That makes me so happy! Happy knitting! 💕
Chandi, for me this is the best tutorial ever. I love how you calmly explain stitch by stitch. And that cable tip is wonderful. I have been knitting for more than 40 years and I never know someone with your knowledge. Congratulations! You do a great job with your beautiful yarn, knitting and crocheting. I love to watch your tutorials. Yes, I love those big ones full of explanations and great tips. Hugs and kisses to you both! I’m a big fan of yours and I have been following for years. You are a such of beautiful soul! Very positive! Your spirit and happiness are contagious. I wait for every Friday to watch you. Sometimes I feel down and you make my day with you spirit and beautiful smile! Thank you so very much! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this video. I have been knitting for 50 years and have always wondered about cabling without a cable needle. You have given me the knowledge and encouragement to give it a go!
Chandi, stop! Wait, no. Don't stop! I'm so addicted to you, your yarns, your patterns that I'm spending a small fortune on my new found hobby! I've learned so much from you. So, yeah. Please carry on and keep knitting/crocheting!
I really appreciate you taking the time to walk us through patterns. You make it seem like we can do anything if we take the time to enjoy our knitting. I enjoy the longer tutorials very much. Thank you!
Chandi, knitting without a cable needle IS indeed life-changing. Must practice, practice, practice. I have avoided cables because of the cable needle. Thanks so much for this tutorial. Now...if only I can master it.😊
I love this tutorial. I love how much time you spent teaching us. I plan to do a swatch for sure, watching a second time. This time, I just did some mindless crochet while I watched. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!
OH NO😳 I'm going to need a cable needle! Lol ... Intimidated by these cable stitches. I need a whole lot of practice for this Chandi. I want to be able to knit just like you when I grow up😊 ( mind you I'm grown. 60 yrs old) Have a great day my friend
You've got this Deirdre! I will be over here cheering you on. I hear you about being intimidated by cable stitches, but with a little practice you will be teaching me! 😍😍 Have a lovely weekend 💕
Oh my goodness Chandi! This is a truly life changing technique! I have always stayed away from cabling because the cable needles are so wonky, but with this, I can do it!! (I actually did it with you, following along with the video and it came out perfect! My husband was quite impressed, lol.) I'm so excited to add this to my knitting repertoire! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! As always, your tutorials are above and beyond and so easy to understand and follow. (Also, I love the longer tutorials!) Have a wonderful day!
so lovely ^^ I tried to knit cables and to see it seems to be complicated but when I start knitting cables I find it so fun to do lol. Thank you my dear and beautiful friend for this video. Have a nice week end
I love your videos and the free patterns you generously let us have (I sometimes put your videos up while I knit and crochet). I made the Trillium shawl as soon as you put the pattern out and I wore it until it was too hot to wear it anymore, I matched all the colors to my wardrobe so it goes with everything and I got a lot of compliments on it 😊😊
Loving the long form tutorial!!!! Would love to see more of them. I enjoy cabling but not using a cable needle scares me a bit. I'll be trying this swatch with the video to see if I can handle it. Thank you and blessings on your day
Thank you so much for the free pattern and demo! This will be my first sweater but not the first time ive tried cables. I did a cable mitten last winter. I cant wait to jump into this🥰
I always love your video. All your videos are full of fun! In early days of my knitting, when I was learning knitting from youtube, I found one of your videos where you showed a can/pen holder (trying to remember) full of different knitting needles. On that day, I told my self that I want to have that many needles :P. At that time I only had a pair of needles, now I've many.
To all you diligent & ingenious people at EFA; thank you; long-form tutorials are the best; cables seem possible: all I need is much determination and faith; what I have been graced with: Chandi-ism: "little ladies in pearl necklaces" thank you /:)
Yeeeeeey is friday!!!!!!!!! The notification with my favorite channel is on my phone!!!!!!! Chandi is on the screen!!!!!!! A new tutorial is here and is magical and is useful. You are awesome!!!!!!! Thank you verry verry verry much.💐🥰🙏
Chandi, I'm not sure if I have cable needles, I do have some short dpns, could one of those take place of cable needle, since just need something to hold stitches and be able to knit off them?
i'd say if you use a dpn, make sure it's the same size as the needles you're knitting with and preferably in a non slippy material aka avoid metal to avoid unfortunate slippage within the five seconds you're not looking at it
I love the way you knit, so natural so calming. I tried to knit continental style but I found it so hard. I will try again knowing in the long run I would become a better knitter. Cables without the needles, who was the genius? Thanks for your encouragement.🧣
Hi Chandi. I really enjoyed this video. It was very helpful to learn how to cable without a cable needle! Thank you also for the free pattern for the Ponchoesque top. I will be making this for sure.
I love all of your tutorials; therefore yes, i am enjoying the long-form tutorials as well! You are a great teacher; you make everything look so easy...🙃 Thank you so much for all you do...🤗🥰😚
Such a very well taught tutorial thank you thank you!!! Your voice is so calming and so much encouragement I feel like I have my own personal cheerleader.. Cant wait to give the cable no cable needle a go, Im sure some drops but practice practice AND knits the knit & pearl the pearls.. Please Please do more long teaching tutorials it was so much help.. Again thank you for all you give and do for us XoXo
Thanks for the without cable needle tip! I'll try to do it again, but i tried it before and i failed miserably! Once i took those two stitches off the needle and tried to pinch them honey there was nothing to pinch cause them stitches sunk down like it was quicksand! 😂 but practice makes perfect!
I KNEW that there must be an easier way to cable!!! Now I just need to work on my tension, when I overthink I knit too tight. ☹️ Best tutorial EVER!!! I miss the outtakes. 😂🤣
Thanks for the great lesson Chandi! I’m not new to cables but if I haven’t done them in a long time I like to practice first. How many stitches did you use for this swatch? I don’t like tutorials too long but this one was fine, especially where you are showing a new technique. Thanks so much! Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend!💕
I see a lot of dropped stitches in my future! 😂 I may have to stick with the cable needle, but love the longer video. It's really helpful to get it into my brain. Thanks so much, Chandi. Your videos are always a joy to watch! 😊
You are very beautiful and very talented! I follow all your posts with pleasure and I try to make a big and beautiful shawl that I saw with you. I wish you much success and I hug you dearly.
Greetings! I am a crochet person and ready to learn knitting. I love this sweater and have downloaded the pattern. But I do not know how to read it. Is there a video for the sweater itself? It looks simple and delicate, I love it. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I don't have a video for the sweater itself. We will be doing a knit-a-long very soon with this sweater: www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/knit-your-first-sweater-course.html It isn't the same, but it will be beneficial helping you so that you can make this one. 💕
Could you answer a question please. If the yarn i choose is the same gauge as per required for width. How do i accommodate for the rows if it is not the same.? would I have to knit more rows than the pattern calls for. Thanks.
This is so pretty and I'm so tempted to try it but I'm a total beginner when it comes to knitting so I have no idea what's going on here 😫 do you have a crochet pattern for this?
I don't hav a crochet pattern for this specific pullover, but we do hav a bunch more here: www.expressionfiberarts.com/categories/patterns.html?_bc_fsnf=1&Project+Type=Pullovers&Craft=Crochet
Not related, for your DREAMSCAPES crochet sweater, Are those beautiful colors that made this sweater making a comeback?? Im ready to order the yarn to make it!! Please alert! Thanks!! ❤️❤️
I understand the cable knit. I don't understand when following the written pattern. Where it says how many stitches in purl or knit you work it does not indicate where you slip the amount of Stitches off. So how do you follow the pattern. Also what ply of yarn can you use?
The pattern doesn't show the non-cable needle method so if it's confusing I would just use the cable needle. Any ply of yarn is fine - we used fingering weight for the pattern.
How do I know what the bust sizes are? How do I measure for the circumference? I need bust 38. And what does it mean blocked. How do i block before I make the garment. I love the sweater so I really want this to work out for me. I'm still kinda learning. Thanks.
This pattern only has finished circumference sizes, so if you have a 38" bust and you make a size 1 you should have about 10" in positive ease. So the sweater should be ten inches in circumference larger than your bust. SIZES:1 (2, 3, 4, 5)/48" (52", 56", 60", 64") circumference, blocked. Made with approximately 12" of positive ease.
We have a video explaining how to do a gauge swatch and block it before starting your item here: ruclips.net/video/7dDe6gMap1A/видео.html I hope these help you. Let me know if you have any more questions. 💕
Aren't you taking a chance of dropping your stitches when you're sliding the stitches off/on the needles? This method is only for 1-2 stitches I assume since a larger cable would have too many stitches.
I would for sure lose a stitch doing it that way lol! I get nervous with a cable needle! My cable needle is really short and tiny so it doesn’t get in the way too much.
Looked over the pattern... OMG it looks so difficult. This should be a step by step knit-along project! The size gauge is 1,2,3,4,5... I'm not familiar with that sizing. Can you specify what each size is?
So the sizing corresponds with the inches in circumference the garment will be: SIZES:1 (2, 3, 4, 5)/48" (52", 56", 60", 64") So if you have a size 3, it would be 56" in circumference. Does this help a little?
We have a couple of other videos on the same topic that you might find useful: ruclips.net/video/YGfIYRRNXNc/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/vvCyoxw-Z-8/видео.html

Chandi, I'm not sure if I have cable needles, I do have some short dpns, could one of those take place of cable needle, since just need something to hold stitches and be able to knit off them?
Dpns can be a little cumbersome but they work just fine.

Your pattern just say RPC and LPC. there are no numbers before the RPC to tell you the amount of your cable stitch. I hope you understand my question.
Correct - the instructions for each cable are listed in the pattern for you. Thanks!
