Dexter - Season 3 Review

- Everyone's favorite serial killer is back...and takes a stab at a genuine friendship but as some of us know all too well (*wink*), friendships can turn deadly and disastrous. Does season 3 maintain the quality of the first two seasons or take it's first slump?

13:00 One of my favourite Harry lines in this season is when he sarcastically goes "Did I say "Dexter. Teach the Code far and wide my son" showing that the rational part of Dexter's mind knows that teaching Miguel the Code is a bad idea but Dexter wants a friend so much he wants to trust Miguel.
Very underrated season. Miguel Prado is one of my favorite antagonists of the series.
Yeahhh very underrated,is awesome in all aspects,i can’t believe how there are people who don’t like this one,100% agree !!!!!
Agreed. It doesn't hurt that Jimmy Smits is a helluva character actor. He played the narcissistic ADA perfectly.
yeah this season was kind of boring at the start but i loved what they did with miguel and i loved the mind games him and dexter played with eachother.
The Skinner isn't the big bad. He's simply the villain of Debra's subplot which merges with the main plot near the end, Miguel is definitely the main villain of this season
Miguel is so mid that get clapped by Doakes
I'm a huge Dexter fan of both the show and the books, and I always honestly forget The Skinner is the main killer of season 3. I tend to agree with you that Miguel is definitely more of the big bad of the season.
At the end of the season I was like "wait, whos this guy ?... oh right"
Your Dexter reviews are great, man. I also love season 3, and never understood some of the hate it got from fans. Seasons 1-4 are still some of the best TV I've ever seen.
Just binged the series again. And man did s3 really grow on me. Jimmy Smits is a hell of an actor.
That rooftop scene is still one of my favorite scenes ever
You have the ring!?!? I HAVE CITY FUCKIN HALL!
I also enjoyed Miguel prado. And would've liked to see his character have a budding story arc over multiple seasons. The dulynamic between him and dexter was a great addition to the series.. the skinner on the other hand. Not exactly what the show needed. But the showrunners more than made up for it in season 4
I just rewatched this season and I always remembered it being one of the weaker ones but I loved it the second time around. Miguel is for sure the main villain and I feel like the Skinner is more of a B plot. A thing to keep it fresh so not every season feels like he’s chasing a serial killer and that’s it.
Love the rooftop scene, and how you recreated it. Love the tension as Miguel and Dexter start to see things differently. Can't wait for the next one
The skinner reminds me of the killer in the second book, but to a much lesser threatening and scary degree.
Haaaaaaaaaa. These intros are priceless. Keep the Dexter reviews comin man.
Love that you have Hank's ringtone, so do I, that was a fun surprise.
I loved this season because of Miguel and that's really about it. One of the big issues with it, and Dexter in general though, is just the illogical ways the characters speak and behave sometimes.
I can buy that Miguel is an egomaniac. That's his biggest problem and overall the reason that things didn't work. I don't fully buy, however, that Dexter isn't smart enough to see this and that he couldn't have been more careful in explaining things to him. If he would have sat him down and said something like "Listen.. Miguel.. I've been doing this a long time and have never been caught.. We have to be very careful and patient with how we do things" Yes he would have had to "reveal" more about himself to Miguel, but I'd buy the whole thing a lot more if he'd have tried harder to explain things to him first instead of his terse and condescending "Nope"s.
Its the same thing in S2 with Rita, Dexter apparently becomes stupid all of a sudden when confronted with the heroin thing. And in s4 when he sees Quinn pocket the money instead of simply saying " hey Quinn don't worry I'm not gonna say shit" he beats around the bush in the most obnoxious and insulting way he can continuing the conflict.
I get that the conflict needs to happen but the writing could have been better in regards to arriving at the conflict in a more believable way. I'll probably come up with many more examples of this as I rewatch again (in preparation for season 9) but I'm only on season 4 at the moment.
Imagine if Dexter had been run by Vince Gilligan or someone of the same caliber. Jeez man... Would have been so much better. That being said I think they did an acceptable job with the show. I remember having some issues with later seasons but still, I could see some people really fucking the show up even worse than they did.
Your content is killer, man.
Excited for season 4. And now pumped for season 9.
Yesss can’t wait more season 4 review
The holy grail of television
well i guess hes not gonna make a season 4 review:(
Maybe he's waiting for season 9 to get closer before resuming the reviews
Definitely one of the best seasons. I’m stoked for your review for season 4 which is obviously the best one.
I think Dexter's cold shoulder towards Harry in the season makes sense. If you look at what he learned last season
1.His Dad was cheating on his mom(step mom)
2.His dad knew who his mother was
3.His dad knew that Dexter had a brother
That's a lot of shit to find out in a short period of time. I am glad it got resolved by season's end though.
But in the end "Harry was right"
@@FuturePast2019 Yep. Not disagreeing with that at all. Just saying, with all of the revelations he was dealing with it made sense for him to question things. He did come around by the end of the season.
When Miguel killed for the first time his actor accidentally grabbed a real knife instead of the prop knife luckily the guy was ok
Arguably the best intro you have had... I'm dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I really liked this season, imho the first 4 are the best and the next one is my favorite. Plus Debs boyfriend/the CI and skinner victim is also Diggle in the CWverse.
I love the intros, they keep getting better and better Lol 😂😂🤣🤣
The Skylar slander is justified, comparing Rita to her is wild 😂
Watching this show for the first time with the review series somehow I knew was saving this show for something big thank you Cody
HAHAHA love that skit at the beginning!
This was the season I was introduced to Dexter. My parents were watching it and I really liked the episode, I've always thought this season as underrated. Went back and started with season 1 and was hooked. Keep em coming Cody! And those intros too 😂
Finally I finished season 3 and didn't wanna start season 4 untill after I seen this.
I feel like this season would've been better if it just focused on miguel and dexter, I feel like the skinner storyline was just thrown in there.
Great review man. Fuckin love Dexter. My favorite tv show of all time. It would be awesome if you and Mother Mayhem did like a Dexter compendium special. Talk about you guys favorite characters, moments, episodes, etc.
Great review Sir, season 3 of "Dexter" is my third fav, Jimmy Smits playing Miguel Prado is one of my fav characters in the series, & provided a lot of funny scenes, the rooftop season one of my favourite scenes, i liked the way that Dexter & Miguel bonded as friends & then they both turned on each other.
Quinn turned into a decent character & i didn"t actually expect that he would last long in the series, a entertaining & great tv season of "Dexter" superb work on these reviews.
Love how it take the American psycho concept almost and CODY I would love to see you review American Psycho!
Love the reviews , this is my 3rd favorite season so far. Only on season 5 though so things could change.
Speaking of Sons of anarchy would you consider doing reviews of each season of that show?
Maybe one day
And The Shield. 🛡
I was going to suggest the same thing! Fingers crossed for burn notice and the first five seasons of supernatural!
Love these reviews yeah the villain in season 3 isn't really scary the next season villain my favourite awesome review as always cody 👏
Where is the season 4 review?
Good review Cody! I myself agree with Mother Mayhem, not the biggest fan of Dexter Season Three, however you do a great job on these! Can't wait to see your Season Four review!
Love that little intro, lol! I'm newly subscribed to C.P. and Lindsay, as well.
Great vid as always man
You know what, this was maybe one of my least favorite seasons at first but after watching it all again most recently I really love this season and think it’s a lot better than I previously did, I love all the family stuff here and the emotional progression for Dexter
Gonna getcho yo ass security maan” 😂😂 haha this review was awesome
Season 3 is mainly just weak. Miguel Prado is a good opponent for Dexter but the Skinner is just a plain weak villain. The writers seemed to want to give the Skinner extra mojo by eventually pairing him up with Prado but I don't think it works all that well. Too little, too late. Not a bad season (those come later) but nowhere near season 2 or 4.
Yeah. The Skinner's whole "Use looking for money Freebo owed him as an excuse to skin people alive" was a pretty shitty motive.
This season was good especially his friendship with Miguel but the Skinner was rubbish. He was not intimidating at all
Ooh man i sure as shit can’t wait for season 9 of dexter and how it all ends once and for all
Love ya vids Cody you are my fav movie/show reviewer because we sometimes agree on movies and such and if we don’t agree i still want to hear you out in a way that in the end of the day i respect you more (just like how you like halloween 2 remake and defend it) well buddy have a good day and you better be sure as shit i will tune in to the amazing reviews greetings from Holland 👋
One of the best introductions to one of your videos ever!!! That was hilarious 🤣. And mother mayhem shes gorgeous 😍
Your intros are so very funny cody also hi mother mayham
I liked it for sure, but the deb/Anton subplot really didn’t work for me. Found no chemistry at all unlike with her and Lundy.
That Oh Hell No!!! Yeah mother mayhem got some hood in her. lmao
Tbh I would have loved to see Miguel and Dexter be long term friends. They could have started season 4 off with Miguel being killed by The Trinity Killer and Dexter avenging him.
I love this season,i met dexter this year during quarantine 5 months ago more or less, the friendship between dexter and miguel is the best thing of this season the chemistry between them is fantastic, perfect i liked that scene the first kill of miguel, dexter asks him - how do you feel? And Miguel (whispers with deep voice ) - fantastic . I love it but i still prefer the 1st season which is one incredible things i’ve ever seen in my entire life !!!!!!
Need a season 4 Review!!!
I like Debra's growth in Season 3 as she becomes a very good detective. While I thought Dexter/Miguel was good, I felt Jimmy Smits was miscast as I didn't believe his outburst towards Dexter during last 3 episodes. And yes, The Skinner was a terrible 'big bad' for Season 3.
Out of 1-4 this is my least favorite season. Even though I know its good the Miguel Padro story just doesnt hold me attention. I know you prolly get this a lot but when are we getting the season 4 review. Ive been hangin on the edge of my seat waitin for your take on imo the best season.
These intros get funnier and funnier every time. lol
One day we will get the season 4 review... one day...
I don't care about this show but for some reason I'm very interested to see your thoughts about each season. Keep up the awesome work bro 👍
Unpopular opinion, I liked season 3 more than 2
I enjoy season 3. My 1st episodes were the back half of season 3 so it has special place in my heart. My 1st episode may have been finale and season 3 def was my 1st season. Has weak moments but I was sold when he snaps a certain killers neck
My first episode was the pilot, my brother was watching it, I didn't fully watch it on air dates until season 5 was out.
Never truly liked Dexter, the show can't decide if he's a monster or antihero.
But after season 4 they show went full serisl killer grouppie mode and made him so sympathetic he only lacked a freaking cape.
Can't have it both ways.
He's either a hero (The Punisher, Batman) or a monster (Breaking Bad, The Shield, The Sopranos), can't be both.
You can blame Seasons 5-8 for the inconsistency. Scott Buck and the producers who took over starting from 5 didn't understand the character of Dexter and portrayed him as a hero even though he never was. In Seasons 1-4 he was a monster killing other monsters.
Season 3 just feels like a let down because of the Skinner but also it doesn’t flow as well as other seasons. I recently rewatched Dexter and when I get to 3 and 5 it’s just not the same as Season 1,2,4,6. I’m not as likely to want to watch more than one episode in one sitting. The Prado family is annoying to me. And Jordan Chase 🙄. Lumen annoys me. I’m very interested to hear Cody’s opinion on season 5. It might be because I love season 4 so much and love the Trinity killer story so much that getting through season 3 is painful lol same with getting through season 5 because I love season 6 and the Doomsday killer. I could talk about Dexter for hours I feel like. Loving these reviews so far ❤️
Do you intend to do season 4 through 8?
What an epic intro love it
Where's season 4!!!???
Wheres the season 4 review? 👀
And still till this day no season 4 review lmao
Great reviews for the first 3 seasons, why didn't you finish the series off?
Very underrated season in my opinion. I enjoy almost as much as the first 2 and Jimmy Smits is fantastic in the role of Miguel. To be honest, the only season I don't like is season 8. Loving hearing your thoughts man.
Yeah absolutely underrated i love it ,and about season 8 i love it too lol but the only seasons the I don’t i lke is 5 is kinda and 6 that is awful the only good thing is the final seconds but anyway season 3 is awesome
@@vinilima1227 I like em all other than 8
The ringtone from breaking bad😂😂😂
You should put your favorite horror icons in the pictures in your backdrop
As I wait for each new Dexter New Blood episode I've went back and rewatch the first Dexter series as it's been a hot minute since I last seen lt and apart from the whole Skinner subplot being a little weak season 3 is such a compelling season especially since it's the first to really give shine to Deb as a character who is amazing and made me wish she wasn't killed off in season 8.
How come Season 4 review is taking so long?
It’s so funny how both of yours both just uploaded
It was planned lol
@@CodyLeachYT oh wow 😂😂
I don't like the side characters in S3, i found myself skipping a lot of the batista and his love interest detective and pretty much any scene with Anton. Those moments don't add anything to the actual character of Dexter and it honestly just seems like they needed to meet the 50 minute time slot. Debra's promotion was nice, but again, I care more about her relationship with Dexter more than her just as a character on her own, if that makes sense. In S1 and 2 it didn't bother me because the characters were just being introduced and many of those side plots did go back to Dexter, but in S3, it just bored me.
Other than that, Miguel is a great villain and I enjoyed every scene with him and Dexter trying to make a new trusting friend.
I love your reviews, but where are the reveiw of other seasons ????
This season is always so weird for me because its the season I forget EVERY time I rewatch it. Miguel is okay, the tree trimmers are okay, but I feel like when you come off the roller coaster that was 1 and 2 and then hit the gas the way you do in 4, this one really just falls through the cracks in the series.
Something out of character for Dexter in this season was not testing the blood on the shirt Miguel gave him right away. Dexter is suspicious and distrustful of people so he'd have tested it the instant he got it to see if Miguel was up to something, found out it was cow blood and distanced himself from the investigation into Dexter's murder of Oscar and Miguel wouldn't have pulled the fake friend act on him.
It always really annoys me when people try to jump in to defend characters like Skyler white. The way they often talk it’s like they think a character has to be morally good in order for people to like them and they often try to assert that you don’t like the character because of sexism 😆
where is the season four review?? i NEED it! I watch your videos after i'm finished rewatching a season. Gotta see them all before season nine!
He uploaded it yesterday.
I love S1-S5 and S7. S6 is silly at times but I still liked it. but S8?🤢🤮🤯🤣
I agree
Season 4 review when?
I'm finishing up season 3 and I got tell Dec 1st to finsh watching
The DVD’s don’t have a skip intro option. That’s a bummer sometimes, ... ya know😣
USA? Europa : Skips recap + intro. As it should.
I literally finished watching season 3 like 30 minutes ago and got on RUclips for a change of pace and this comes up. WTF
Mother Mayhem how I miss you RIP to your channel
Cunt-ta-sore-us-rex....OMFG..I am dying. Thanks Cody...Ohhh...Shit...Mother Mayhem...Now she is gonna be on my ass too! LMAO... :p
Is sons of Anarchy a show you will review one day
Great review, but I disagree about the Big Bad... A "normal life" is scary enough for the season. Take this perspective....the fear we feel is for Dexter taking the gambles in life that we take for granted...to have a good friend or bro..to get married, etc. These are things that he poorly comprehends and place a lot of exposure risk into his life. Sure, Miguel technically was not a big threat to kill Dex, but to expose him (after being so trusted by Dex) is terrifying to the viewer and Dexter. He was pretty pissed when he realized Miguel was BS-'ing liar.
Can any of us imagine having a friend who reveals that they are a serial killer? LOL. Wouldn't you be terrified to feel that your odds of dying just went up rather quickly as a confidant?
Love this season.
I like the idea of this season i just think it could have been more interesting for me.
Where’s that Saw 5 review?? 😂😂
Wasn’t a huge fan. I like Jimmy Smits OK as an actor but the Miguel character bored me for the first half of the season. He got more interesting toward the end but it made the meat of the season harder to get through.
I know this is a season 3 review but I just finished season 6 and what the fuck was that. Deb being “in love” with Dexter is by far the worst plot point ever, who the fuck thought that was a good idea. Horrible.
It gets dropped in Season 7.
Why are all of her videos private?
I got respect for this season really...it tries to get away from attention getters into something more " solid drama" instead of a glorification serial killer show. But I got to say this season hasn't have enough weight for 13 episodes , i mean they should push it more with the skinner, and dexter doesn't feel evolved enough in the investigation, we got the miguel thing instead which was good...for 3 episodes, then the whole thing gets stretch out at the end to where gets interesting again...the character's where introduced so subtle than is not memorable, actually the whole season feels less ambitious even though the plot is ambitious, static camera angles, baby drama ( not weight enough) simple editing , excellent soundtrack but not use enough....nevertheless was a season that didn't try to sell stupid shit like later seasons and more than a positive review I have "respect " to me is the season of " I get a little break- Dexter
My 2 cents:
I liked the Skinner. However, I always saw Miguel as the big bad.
I think the Brain Surgeon was probably the worse.
It’s one of the worst session.
Never seen dexter but I going to soon
I actually never seen this show should I watch it
You seem to really want to give dexter a partner…. It’s called “Dexter”, not “Dexter and friends”. One season is fine for these side characters. (Doakes and Miguel)
There’s one character that coulda stuck around and we meet her in season 5.
whats up with the mother mayhem links.
She has since privated or deleted her videos
Worth the intro alone. But least favorite season.
Hey Coady! When are you going to do more Dexter reviews mate?
Waiting on Mother Mayhem
@@CodyLeachYT Did mother mayhem quit youtube or something? Where did all her videos go?
@@CodyLeachYT Ya are we ever gonna get season 4 now? I need me some more Dexter Cody Lol!
@@CodyLeachYT Looks like you'll be waiting a while because she's deleted all her videos.
I’m watching Dexter for the first time on Netflix and this season is so boring. It’s a shame because seasons one and two were very good even the predictable parts.
