Aaaaah! So there with u, man! I dislike Jamie Foxx's character and only a handful of characters were great, one of them being Gerad Butler's character, but everyone else I didn't like.
I kinda expected the original A Nightmare on elm street to be on there because of that dumb ending with Nancy and her friends getting taken away in a Freddy Car and the blowup doll of Nancy's mother getting pulled through the window by Freddy because that was a stupid ending and they should have ended it the way Wes Craven wanted to end it.
@@RemyMyer He wanted to end it without Freddy coming back since he wanted the movie a one in done deal with no sequels, I kinda messed up by saying that because I think it would of still worked as a franchise, but it should have had a better ending to create that franchise.
I totally agree with your take on Law Abiding Citizen. It was a great movie with a terribly poor ending. Also, fellow Georgia boy here. Good video, I enjoyed it.
Deep Blue Sea had a terrible ending where Preacher played by LL Cool J magically knew what to do and blew up the final shark and Susan gets killed off just like that. They should have stuck with the original ending of Susan redeeming herself by blowing up the last shark and joining with Carter and Preacher. But no everyone hated her and wanted her to die so we got that copout of an ending
Fun fact: the alternate ending of I Am Legend is actually how the original book ended. In fact, the title I Am Legend alludes to the fact that Neville had become a legend to be feared amongst the now dominant species, and that they saw him as the true monster (in the book they were vampires, not those weird zombie things). So, in a way, the theatrical ending of I Am Legend makes the symbolism of the title kind of pointless.
@@willhuey4462 That’s the one. Aside from several characters being whisked away into the sky in some scenes from what I could tell, it was NEVER hinted at that aliens existed in the film or that they were responsible for the abduction and memory wiping.
@tedgruver7618 that was a stupid plot twist. ROTFL, the way people get whisked off in the sky was hilarious. But no, it had to be- Mayor of Poddlesville (Cyberchase): Aliens! Aliens!
Another good idea for an ending for law abiding citizens would have been the briefcase bomb be a twist in which Butler left only an alarm on the suitcase and it could have contained evidence of how crooked Jaime Fox was a lawyer. Once it’s discovered it’s back in the jail cell, butler could have looked at Fox and ask “wanna make a deal?” And it could just end right there and be awesome lol
The original ending of I am Legend was the original ending of the book and they used it in the first two adaptations--The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price and The Omega Man. The Last Man on Earth is a very faithful adaptation and worth watching if you don't have the time to read a very short book.
My number one has to be No Country For Old Men. I was loving the hell out of the movie, and thought it could end up being one of my favorite movies of all time. Then the ending ruined it for me. I was very unsatisfied with how it ended. It felt so abrupt and inconclusive.
I think that was the point, the movie was meant to be a somewhat realistic reflection if our lives. Things in our lives often happen suddenly. Most of us aren't going to die during this epic moments. It's going to be a sudden, and surprising event that we usually couldn't predict.
Here's one for you Cody that I was talking to a friend about the other day...Day of the Dead. Where it suddenly cuts to them being on a desert island. It's like in school when you are doing creative writing and you have 1 minute left so you end it with...and it was all a dream! haha
I'd read War of the Worlds years before I saw the film, that ending went down a little easier for me since I knew it was coming. The family portion of the conclusion was a bit weak, though. I also agree with you completely on High Tension. Am a little surprised to see the original Nightmare on Elm Street not on this list: you've often said, and I agree, that the final 5-8 minutes are a letdown, especially given how strong the rest of the film is.
Great video, the ending to Scream 4 was suppose to end at the house where someone yells inside that we have a pulse but Bob Weinstein didn't want a cliffhanger ending so it was rewritten but looking back yeah it would have been a better ending if Scream 5 had been filmed back to back!
I do love the Scream Movies, however I didn't like the hospital ending. Didnt know if you knew, Kevin Williamson had to leave the project for I think Vampire Diaries. Writers came in to take over. I believe the plan was for Kirby to survive. As for Jill, yes I believe it was originally to end with her getting away with it. It is such a fun movie...and then the reveal🤦♂️ Also I hated the ending of High Tension. I just kept thinking....huh???
4:14 Jill killing Sidney and getting the fame she wanted would have been a great "villain wins" ending. And Jill herself references how stupid the actual ending is saying "The real ending was supposed to be at the house. This is just silly."
@21:35 YES!!!!!!!! im as demented as you are ..I love having not so poetic nice endings sometimes when the movie calls for it ...that ending would have been the cherry on the cake for a great movie ...

When my wife and I saw High Tension for the first time years ago, we literally saw it three times in a row because we love the film that much. I have to see the film again, because it has been some time since I've seen it, I wonder if my opinion of the film will change. I just remember thinking so highly of the film having seen it. I get your point of view though. Great video. Cheers 🍻!
9:22 - 9:44 That would kinda make sense, what with him and her being isolated on that ship, and the bartender played by Michael Sheen looking eerily similar to Lloyd from the Shining. It's like The Overlook in space.
Finally!! Someone who feels the same way about High Tension as I do. The ending killed the movie- couldn't stand it. I've been told for years that I'm the only one who feels this way and it's a "horror masterpiece" 😂😂. Thanks for another fun video.
You are not alone... Haute Tension I was like this is the best slasher and gore fest ever!!!! Then the tweeest happened and I was "FUCK THIS MOVIE" I have gotten shit for hating this ending for what? almost a decade... saying that the twist... it was 'Alice' all the time... invalidates everything that has happened till this point...
I'm completely in agreement with you. It was going along just wonderfully and then this nonsensical ending comes along. It could have been a slasher classic, but that preposterous and unnecessary twist makes it an also ran.
I'd like to recommend the opposite- bad movies with good endings. Here's how I'd change each of these endings: Scream 4: The movie ends with Sidney's death, ending the Scream franchise with a bang. Hancock: The second half doesn't happen. The first half gets padded out instead to get into character study territory. The second half gets a movie of its own. Passengers: Chris Pratt fucking dies. Jennifer Lawrence, wracked with guilt, lets out another person to keep the cycle of isolation-induced madness going. The final scene remains the same though but with a more melancholy narration. (Also, this should have been from her perspective instead of from Chris Pratt's.) The Wolverine: I'd make the Silver Samurai much more grounded but otherwise leave it alone. The stinger's the best part of the movie though. The Forgotten (apt name): I'd go for something more fucked up like everyone's in on a child-smuggling ring except for the main character and they're doing some Scientology-esque gaslighting to make her forget about her son. I Am Legend: Just stick with the original ending, that shit's much more impactful. Splice: The monstrosity does not become a rapist. Instead it goes out in a more Frankenstein-esque fashion of being chased off a cliff by an angry mob. Law-Abiding Citizen: Jamie Foxx gets more sympathetic moments so it's more of a grey area between the two of them. At the end, they blow up together. War of the Worlds (Spielberg): Keep them getting killed by germs, but make the humans cause it with chemical weaponry, just to give some moral grayness to it. Also, the son dies to the chemicals too as a consequence for his idiocy. High Tension: This is simple. Don't make it a twist. Just play the movie entirely from the poor victim's point of view where the woman alternates between trying to kill her and trying to make love to her.
Great video Cody, Law Abiding Citizen & War Of The Worlds delivered very lacklustre endings, I think you ought become a script doctor buddy cause you came up with some great alternative endings. As for High Tension I actually shouted "oh fuck off" at the ending, it didn't so much jump the shark more pole vaulted over it. Stay safe my friend.
Must admit Law Abiding Citizen split me right down the middle. On one hand loved it in all its trying to say about the justice system. Then that ending just leaves a sour taste. Must admit though still love it but just leaves me with a weird feeling. Great vid Cody
-I love the Scream films so much. Scream one is my all-time favorite horror movies. - Haven't seen Hancock in a long time. So no opinion at the moment. - I actually really like Passengers. It's fun but it did deserve a better script. - I actually really love The Wolverine. That ending did feel off. - I Am Legend does have a very disappointing ending.
I just watched Hancock last week and yeah, that ending brought it down to okay. I enjoyed The Wolverine and I Am Legend a good bit on their terms and Passengers has that Batman v. Superman, Attack of the Clones Charlie and the chocolate factory ,Tommorowland, who's idea was this vibe that I'm an easy lay for.
On youre side with high tension. Saw it in theatres back then and never watched it again because of the ending. Decided to watch it a month ago and still could not get my head around it, especially since I knew about the ending and I was trying to see if I could make sense of it while watching. I'm too picky to let this go... Anyway thanks again for the top notch content!
Though I like the ending of 28 Days Later. The alternate ending that was never shot but is only available in illustrations and narration in the special features is really chilling and I would have liked to have like to have seen that put to film.
I don't think the High Tension ending doesn't make sense but it kills the dramatic tension and that highly empowering moment when the woman stops the killer
I swore I left a comment on this video, I think I'm getting old. 😂 I agree with your list, I had the same feelings of Passengers as you. Your idea for Law Abiding Citizen is badass, I would have loved that ending. Funnily, I completely forgot about The Forgotten until you reminded me. 😄 The 2 movies I thought were good but hated ending were No Country for Old Men and The Gray with Liam Neeson, people groaned at the end of both films when I saw them. Great video!
I will say Cody that I'm surprised A Nightmare on Elm Street didn't make the list for you. Perhaps you don't see it as a "Bad" Ending but I feel like with how much you love the movie and the ending being the only problem you have with it I expected it to be here. Either way, good list, great video.
One “good movie, bad ending” that sticks out for me is The Bone Collector. When the killer is revealed I was like “What?” This movie left ZERO bread crumbs that maybe could’ve pointed to him. It was so out of nowhere it didn’t make sense. It was like a backstory was made up on the fly so they could justify who the killer was. But up until that, I loved the movie.
I honestly only vaguely remember that movie, but I do remember that I hated the reveal. I was thinking about seeing it again, but that ending constantly keeps me from doing so.
Great idea and a great video Cody you really did a great job on this one .. with that being said I disagree with you on one of these movies and that is Law Abiding Citizen.. I love that movie and the ending does not bother me as much as it bothers you ...which is 100% fine because we both are very competent movie guys who respect each other's opinions...I will leave you with this I am eagerly eagerly eagerly awaiting your Apocalypto movie review and wouldlove to see you do it with a live commentary.... thanks Cody you are the king
One movie that I gotta add to this list was the recent 'Happily'... It was building up to something really intruiging and then.... MARRIAGE COUNSELLING
I think the issue with the war of the worlds ending is that, in the book, you spend a very long portion of the novel with aliens, having basically overtaken all of humanity as far as you know. Joe, it really builds up that sense of hopelessness before mankind ends up being saved by the very things that make us sick everyday. It works so much better in that context
I definitely agree with you on I am Legend, the alternate ending is compelling and unique. Hot take here but the ending of Arrival gives me mixed feelings. I don't like how Amy Adams' character willingly let her child die, and correct me if I'm wrong but she didn't tell her husband about it. Seems somewhat cruel.
If she told him, he'd refuse to have the child, I thought it was beautiful. I have 2 daughters and if I had to choose to never have them or have them but endure the pain of their loss the time with them is so precious I'd take every ounce of pain, they are worth it. That's what I took from it.
It just comes to mind as a shitty movie which only made money because of false advertisement. It was my worst cinema experience ever... Never have i ever been SO disappointed.
I heard that the wolverine was originally going to end with Logan recovering from his heart surgery scene with killing Viper than the Son who he kills was going to be the Silver Samurai, (Not in a mech suit but the traditional Samurai Suit made out of adamantium) I don't know how true that is but those 2 characters at least got a great fight scene after the heart surgery scene.
Completely agree on Law Abiding Citizen, I was so mad how they ended that. I feel similar about The Jackal - no way Bruce Willis would have been outsmarted by Gere!!
I understand the frustration with High Tension, but I've re-watched it so many times that I just don't care about the flaws in the ending anymore. I love it overall.
Pretty much Agree with your list Honorable Mention: Nightmare on Elm Street 1984 10. Die Hard 3: With A Vengeance 9. Arrival 8. Scream 4 7. The Game 6. Us 5. No Country for Old Men 4. The Village 3. Law Abiding Citizen 2. I Am Legend 1. High Tension
100% agree with number 3! Bugs me every time I watch it. And that twist with High Tension makes no sense. Where did she get that truck the killer in her mind was driving?
I knew #3 would be on here! Everyone I've talked to hated that ending. I disagree on #5, I much preferred the theatrical ending to the alternate ending.
Splice was cool man. It's not a perfect movie by any means, but it didn't deserve the hate it got. I approve of the weirdness, it's what made it interesting. The wtf is what it was going for imo.
What happened was Jamie said he wouldn’t do the movie unless his character won. If it was me I would have just gotten someone else to play his part like don cheadle or someone like that and did the real movie.
I know I'm going to be in the minority with this but the original Friday The 13th's ending for me is a WTF. First the killer offs the rest of the campers with ease and then has a huge problem with Alice of all people!?! In the opening when the Killer chases Annie it is obviously a large man in overalls, second the Jack killing under the bunk doesn't make sense logistically (with the length of the arrow and arm and the space under the bed) but possibly a small woman or child could maybe do this. But no woman the stature of Mrs Vorhees could 1: lift the dead weight of Ned onto a top bunk 2: pin up Bill while holding him still to a door and 3: tie up Brenda lift her up over her head and throw her thru a window. And then can't dispatch of the weakest of the bunch Alice and be vanquished at the end by decapitation. My thoughts anyway, enjoyed the list.
Although i did overall like High Tension i did mention at least one of such issues to my brother that i saw it with, and he having liked it slightly more unconditionally said that i "should go make a perfect horror movie then". I thought it funny that all i had mentioned was essentially, how was her friend freaked out by her in the back of the killers truck if she was the killer and was driving it and her friend away... overall i appreciated the movie a bit more after the fact when i saw so many other entirely unredeemable movies coming out. first part alone was good enough to me.
So true! I never thought of it like that on War of the Worlds. Although I thought it was sweet to see Tom Cruise and his son reunite, it wasn't realistic at all. If they were planning on letting Robbie survive, they could have at least let him lose a leg 🦵🏼or an arm 💪🏼 to make the situation look more realistic.
Opera and the Evil Dead remake were two. Well, the ED remake was OK at best, but when they revealed the cure when only Mia was left possessed and alive (that we knew) I audibly groaned. And then there's the twist that had me going 'Seriously?' with SPOILER Eric popping up like that and attacking David just so Mia could be the last one standing and the movie could have the Final Girl clichè because apparently the ONLY WAY they could not replicate Ash was change the lead's gender (and even then Mia comes off as a poor Ash ripoff).
I remember Hancock having a lot of build and getting an unfair shellacking because of that twist. I concede the twist is kind of eye-rolling, but it's not a deal breaker. And the movie arguably holds up better in today's landscape
" High tension is what you get when you discuss the ending to this fuckin' movie. " I love it!

I got to watch all the way through until you're number one. I have yet to see High tension. I'll have to watch it and come back.
I feel the same way about Law Abiding Citizen as you @Cody! I was really disappointed with High Tension entirely due to its ending.
Omg, yes! The ending for Law Abiding Citizen pissed me off more than any other movie ending I’ve ever seen! Smh
I was fully expecting to see Die Hard With A Vengeance in there. Fantastic up to the last ten minutes.
I was an extra in "The War Of the Worlds" the very scene you are talking about in the country on the hill. What an experience.
Another great video from cody!
Top 10 so bad that is good movies
Interesting top 10. Really liked this ranking. Thanks cody🤘✌❤😁
I was thinking about seeing it again, but that ending constantly keeps me from doing so.
high tension has the most wtf ending i've seen in a while
Thank you!!! I thought I was the only one to feel that way about "high tension"
Basically spent the whole video waiting for High Tension to be mentioned, glad it made the list
Wolverine: "A full-on What the Fuck Moment"
😆😆
Great idea and a great video Cody you really did a great job on this one .. with that being said I disagree with you on one of these movies and that is Law Abiding Citizen.. I love that movie and the ending does not bother me as much as it bothers you ...which is 100% fine because we both are very competent movie guys who respect each other's opinions...I will leave you with this I am eagerly eagerly eagerly awaiting your Apocalypto movie review and wouldlove to see you do it with a live commentary.... thanks Cody you are the king
I've watched Splice more than once. While you understand more it really doesn't make the end better.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I really like Splice and wished there was a sequel. Although I agree the last 15 minutes or so could of used some tlc.
Is it ironic that I completely forgot about 'The Forgotten' until you brought it up?
Nope...the world has forgotten
Great topic and reviews - I hope you so this again!
Dope T-Shirt man !
I totally agree About Hancock
@@thesquatcherpayne8273 Well said.
Great list man, big fan can't remember but if you haven't you should do a worst movie sequels list, that would be great.
The Village comes to mind as a good film with a disappointing ending
It just comes to mind as a shitty movie which only made money because of false advertisement. It was my worst cinema experience ever... Never have i ever been SO disappointed.
The Mist is a great movie with a unhappy ending. I have learned to like the ending
It’s not a bad ending .. just sad
The Mist is a movie that's so bad it's actually good lol
@IChaseIRUclips Stephen King likes the ending
This is one of your best lists. Spot on.
A list of movies with the ballsyest ending would be cool. Movies like 7 and The Mist.
"The Cabin in the Woods" great movie, subpar ending!
Woah I like the scream 4 ending now, like it ended at the hospital was different than the previous movies.
Love the content and the shirt my guy!!!
I heard that the wolverine was originally going to end with Logan recovering from his heart surgery scene with killing Viper than the Son who he kills was going to be the Silver Samurai, (Not in a mech suit but the traditional Samurai Suit made out of adamantium)
I don't know how true that is but those 2 characters at least got a great fight scene after the heart surgery scene.
For me it was Titanic. The fact that they sunk the ship really pissed me off.
Which ship? The main characters romance or the Titanic itself? The sinking of the Titanic happened in real life.
The Jackal starring Bruce Willis comes to mind. The last ten minutes were ridiculous.
Great video Cody you rock brother
Pretty much Agree with your list
Honorable Mention:
Nightmare on Elm Street 1984
10. Die Hard 3: With A Vengeance
9. Arrival
8. Scream 4
7. The Game
6. Us
5. No Country for Old Men
4. The Village
3. Law Abiding Citizen
2. I Am Legend
1. High Tension
For Scream 4, I think I like the alternate opening sequence a bit more than the original opening sequence
TOTALLY agree about Hancock. That second half ruined the film for me
100% agree with your list and especially Law Abiden Citizen!!! Damn that ending 😠
Splice was cool man. It's not a perfect movie by any means, but it didn't deserve the hate it got. I approve of the weirdness, it's what made it interesting. The wtf is what it was going for imo.
Fun fact about Law Abiding Citizen is that the director didn't liked the ending either and he didn't wanted Jamie Fox to triumph
What happened was Jamie said he wouldn’t do the movie unless his character won. If it was me I would have just gotten someone else to play his part like don cheadle or someone like that and did the real movie.
Saw "Horns" lately, pretty good movie! Also "Maniac" (Elijah Wood) and "Victor Frankenstein." I enjoyed them all. Peace!
Awesome list make more top 10 lists like this!!
And then there's the twist that had me going 'Seriously?' with
SPOILER
Eric popping up like that and attacking David just so Mia could be the last one standing and the movie could have the Final Girl clichè because apparently the ONLY WAY they could not replicate Ash was change the lead's gender (and even then Mia comes off as a poor Ash ripoff).
The Last Exorcism always comes to mind. HATE THAT ENDING!
Keep up the awesome work bro 👍
I remember Hancock having a lot of build and getting an unfair shellacking because of that twist. I concede the twist is kind of eye-rolling, but it's not a deal breaker. And the movie arguably holds up better in today's landscape
Now u should do top 10 best movie endings. The Departed anyone?
Obviously. And Gofather part 3, the ending is the only really good part of the movie.
