The audacity to put no time or effort into a cheap cash grab, talk about how you put no time or effort into it, and then get offended when people say they don’t enjoy it is just laughable.

Exactly. Their first response to me on Twitter was full-on gloating that they’ve already made enough money to do a sequel. Conveniently they deleted it as they shined a spotlight on what I said. Cowards.

I’m also a horror completist and drove 45 minutes to see “It’s a Wonderful Knife” on a big screen. What a colossal waste of time. This is why it edges out “Winnie the Pooh; Blood n Honey” as my least favorite movie of 2023.

So because you were silly enough to drive 45 minutes to see a horror movie called It's a Wonderful Knife at the cinema you are taking it out on the movie? It's a Wonderful Knife isn't even in the same ballpark as Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey imo. It is high class filmmaking by comparison.

Back in high school, me and a bunch of friends had a film project that we submitted about a horror-ish Winnie the Pooh who is just this big hulking tank of a man with a deep voice. Then like 6-7 years later Blood and Honey got announced and we all went and saw it and ironically loved it so much cause it was literally seeing our idea on a big screen, so seeing everyone put Blood and Honey as the worst, I find both disappointing and completely 110% justified.

However watching on Peacock, yikes it just fell apart quickly within 20 minutes. And the “twist” was incredibly stupid and I did not care for anyone & could just start predicting the climax

Happy New Year to you and your family, Cody! This was another great ranking (and I, for one, LOVE 'worst of' lists). However, I have to correct you on one factual point regarding your 3rd choice, 'The Exorcist: Believer'. You've often said that you do not believe that 'The Exorcist' needed to be a franchise; however, there was, in fact, a legitimate reason for making the excellent 'Exorcist 3' - i.e. it's based fairly closely on William Peter Blatty's sequel - 'Legion' - to his own bestselling novel, 'The Exorcist'

I like both worst and best movie list. Exorcist : Believer - It has been many years since I saw the original Exorcist but the reason to keep anyone (male or female) out when performing an exorcist (per TV Shows / Movies / Books) is to protect the non-participant not to protect the patriachy. I liken an exorcist to a surgery. The reason to keep non-medical people out of the operating room - To keep the room sterile and to be able to perform the surgery. Not some crazy "Protect the patriachy"

I'll never understand why some filmmakers can't take any type of criticism about their movie. If you make a bad movie, like Winnie the Pooh was, then people will say bad things about. Other than the opening of the movie, there was nothing good about Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey. I've seen better independent horror films that had a lower budget than this mess had.

This year, I actually watched a good bit of the worst of the year released to both theaters and streaming. Here are the ten I think are the worst
    10. Hypnotic-As much as I genuinely love Robert Rodriguez, this was a very strange misfire that had a sleepwalking Ben Affleck, a whole lot of exposition, and a concept, reveals, and ideas that felt they were from a knockoff Christopher Nolan
    9. It’s a Wonderful Knife-A complete and total misfire that could’ve worked relatively well if the creatives actually picked the story elements they wanted to explore and develop instead of choosing several story directions to put in an eighty seven minute movie
    8. Meg 2: The Trench-A shockingly lame sequel to 2018’s “The Meg” that has a large budget, multiple prehistoric creatures, and Jason Statham, but completely underdelivers on the monster carnage that people watch shark movies for
    7. Skinamarink-It’s certainly a different kind of horror film in that it’s trying to be atmospheric in its scares, which I can respect, but that doesn’t mean I enjoyed or got anything out of it
    6. Dashing Through the Snow-A dull, forgettable Disney+ original movie that had so little effort put into it to the point where it feels like Ludacris and Lil Red Howery were competing with who could give the lazier performance
    5. We Have a Ghost-Even though it’s harmless enough, it didn’t work for me on any of the levels it was trying to work on, especially because it was trying to explore and develop way too much
    4. You People-It takes a comedy formula and utterly drops the ball when it comes to that formula because the vast majority of the jokes were low hanging fruit, there wasn’t any chemistry from the leads, and the script felt like it was entirely written by incredibly out of touch people who live in a bubble
    3. The Exorcist: Believer-Despite being a superficially watchable horror film, it’s a hollow legacy sequel that stands for the cynical attempt by studio executives to make a movie completely devoid of any artistic merit or value to sell tickets to an audience, which is something I basically hate
    2. Ghosted-It has two charismatic stars, multiple talented writers, a good director, a fun genre and tens of millions of dollars, but what it doesn’t have is a soul or anything interesting to offer
    1. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey-An incredibly soulless and pathetic film that uses the Winnie-the-Pooh IP as a gimmick to get people to watch this movie in theaters or for rental, and they certainly succeeded in their plan as this movie made over fifty times its $100,000 budget

  • @HLHReviews

You premise everything well and articulate it in such a way that if anyone does get upset, it's because they simply wish to be. I'll keep watching and supporting as long as you keep being you!
With all that being said, I had this thought in regards to Exorcist: Believer and the potential future for Linda Blair's character. As we all know, the demon who possessed her is Pazuzu. The new demon in Believer is Lamashtu, and, according to myth/history, they are rival demons, Pazuzu specifically being invoked to stand as protection against Lamashtu. I'm expecting Linda to allow Pazuzu back into her body in order to protect the girl. Plus, the protection "prayer/ceremony" we see in the beginning of the film could be a way of invoking Pazuzu and "destiny". Just my thoughts on the future in answering your question about what they plan to do.

It’s just an astonishing thing to read about and it must feel shitty as a film critic that is unapologetically honest and objective about their opinions. I feel like anybody with a pulse could practically smell the cash grab that Winnie the Pooh was from a mile away from its title alone. First of all a very Happy New Year Cody🤘🏻
In fact, Winnie-the-Pooh is also my number 1 worst (even today I cry for the money I spent on a cinema ticket) And I refuse to see the other adaptations that are coming. I made the mistake once and that was it. Always continue with that honesty and directness. You make the difference.

I agree that Skinamarink should have been a short film. I certainly didn't hate it, and there were sequences wherein its conceit worked wonderfully to keep me on the edge of my seat; the sound design in particular could really raise my hairs. But it definitely felt padded out at 100 minutes, with no real character development or story to justify it.

Great video. I don't believe in trashing art personally. That means I try not to practice trashing art, but I don't care what other people do. Not all films are works of art though. Some films are just made to generate cash. Those "films" are nothing more than product and you have every right as a consumer to smash them into bits if you feel ripped off.... I don't care to spend the time it takes to artiticulate fully my point, but if a film is distributed and sold then the buyer has every right to voice an opinion. To what degree? That is another topic. In case of the blood and honey thing, you're 100% in the right and should have everyone's blessing to go for the throat. I'm glad you did. When you are 100% right, don't back down one bit. Good job.

In terms of Comedies I would HIGHLY recommend "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story". Now I could just be biased being a HUGE Yankovic fan but this was genuinely the funniest movie I have seen in years. Especially when you consider Al is famous for doing parodies and his "biopic" is in fact a parody of the genre it just works on so many levels. Daniel Radcliffe is amazingly hilarious in it and I honestly can't recommend it enough.

I personally never thought that Christianity was meant to be the "hero" in The Exorcist..all the holy water and liturgies and shouting "The Power of Christ compels you!" didn't save Regan. It was Father Karras taunting the demon to come into him and then leaping out the window that ultimately saved her; i.e. a catholic committed a mortal sin under their own doctrine by killing himself. But that's whatever...I never saw Believer because it looked nothing like a film that belonged in the franchise. Skinamarink was utterly painful, so much so that I"m shocked that there were two films lower on the list. By the way, I'm an independent filmmaker and it's quite obvious that you are no enemy to independent film, precisely because of how much you didn't want to bash Skinamarink despite your experience with it.

I love independent horror films but Blood & Honey was horrible & they knew it when they put that crap out. There's no way the makers of that movie looked at it with those cheap looking mask, bad kills & horrible characters & dialog & thought that it was a masterpiece lol. Hopefully the inevitable sequel will be better with a higher budget because as bad as this was the premise does have potential. As you can tell this was my worst movie of this year as well but awesome video as always & looking forward to your next video...Happy New Year to you🤘🏼

Also to further the point of the value of talking about the worst films, criticism is important in order for anything to progress.
When a filmmaker refuses to listen to any criticism, they can't improve.

I really wish Sylvester Stallone would go back to directing. In the mid to late 2000's he had a huge comeback, directing Rocky Balboa (2006) Rambo (2008) and The Expendables (2010) all very solid movies that were well received and really well directed. Since then he's fallen back into just acting and it's totally hurt those franchises. The last Rambo movie (not directed by Sly) was totally forgettable other then the rampant and blatant racism in it and The Expendables have become more of a Parody of the genre as opposed to the homage of the genre the first one was. Stallone is a great director for the types of movies he wants to make and it's because he puts a lot of heart and genuine care into said movies and actually builds on the genre rather then just relying on the "standard factory settings" his more recent movies have been.

    Wait, wait, wait a minute..
On "Nefarious" .. did they *seriously* suggest that a guy breaking up with his girlfriend, who he didn't know was pregnant and she made the decision to have an abortion - they're seriously saying that's on *him??* .. regardless of what anyone thinks of abortion, that's utter nonsense.
And that's not even getting into the oversimplification of euthanasia.. or even blaming him for the state having capital punishment..
It's really no different than when people get blamed for the crimes of their ancestors. They're literally pointing the finger to at people who've done nothing wrong and it's really scummy.
I'm not surprised at all that it was made by the same people who made God's not dead.
I also can't stand the way these people portray atheists.
It's basically a case of misrepresentation.
If the writer doesn't understand atheists or how our perspective works, then they simply cannot accurately represent us in the project and honestly have no right to criticise us.
You can't criticise something without some understanding of it and that's clearly what they're trying to do with these films.
