Every doctor I've had writes the prescription super quick, and is then surprised when I actually ask about it. From ozempic and now mounjaro, I’ve lost 45lbs in 6 months, with only 8 to go to be “normal weight”. My liver enzymes, blood pressure, and A1c are back to normal. I can walk endlessly without being out of breath and I can recognize my self in a mirror. I’m now also not an alcoholic or shopaholic. I went off of them for 5 months and didn’t gain it back. Granted I gained the 60lbs in a short amount of time prior and never was overweight before that, so I have a unique experience. It also encouraged me more to take care of myself. @@noahleach7690 Thats the odd thing, im prone to those swings and cycles and have been my entire life, that was the only one that came with the eating thing and it was one of the worst ones.
      usually the solution is just "apply Adderall in increasing dosage untill desired result is achieved" which is might i add, still not feeling good, and it should speak to how bad the episodes can get where the daily quantity in one of those episodes required to ride it out can get really rather obscene to just be able to poorly pull off daily tasks long enough to ride it out, but that particular one it was like i couldent be motivated to do literally anything other than eat but couldent go through the process of makeing food.
      so it just ended up this wierd process of eating but never actually feeling satisfied until the episode wore off and had me looking like a bloated alcoholic for a week on account of the wierd carb craveings putting my beer intake into the stratosphere.
      I have no idea why that episode was like that but i dont want to repeat it. Normally my episodes involve me getting too skinny because i wont eat simply because my motivation becomes nonexistent to the point finding and eating food seems an impossible task, so this was the total opposite. During a bad one i can loose 4-8 pounds in a week, this one i gained 10

    What people don't get about weight loss, especially for women as common conditions like PCOS often cause obesity, is hormones play a HUGE role in your ability to lose weight - and maintaining balanced hormones can require several doctors appointments, blood tests, prescriptions, recommended over the counter supplements, etc. And that all requires money that a lot of people just don't have. Yeah, you can eat less and exercise more, but when your weight wasn't even caused by over eating and lack of exercise but bc of unbalanced hormones - it can do almost nothing. Moral of the story, get you hormones checked if you can, it's more important than you think.

      Makes sense since it's tied to insulin. I was among the first minors to get the diabetes medication metformin for PCOS, I took it for 3 years and was effectively cured for 10 years after stopping. Some doctors struggled to believe I ever had it until I tell them it was diagnosed with an ultrasound because there was just 0 sign of ever having it. It finally started to come back recently, I'm 29, and I'm on a low dose of metformin again but yeah, I still have no idea what insulin meds have to do with my ovaries, especially because my blood sugar is all normal, but it works.

      Edit: I double checked online. Apparently they know now! PCOS causes insulin insensitivity which the body tries to fix by raising testosterone levels. Guess they figured out *why* it works since I was diagnosed. They didn't used to know, they just gave it to you anyway.

I'm using intermitted fasting for years so i'm used to not eat for 16, 20 or 24 hours, but the amount of time i spend with thinking about food is ridiculous. I can't buy a lot of stuff because it's only available in large quantities and my mind will circle around it until i eat all of it in 5 minutes. Sex drive is a joke compared to that. I would pay a lot for a drug shutting that down and i would pay a fortune for a drug that lets me eat everything without gaining weight ;) It's not even emotional eating, i'm healthy, happy, i don't have any problems or issues, everything is great, but i'm obsessed with food. Reminds me of our dog, he is also laser focussed on everything food related.
      I mean, considering all the challenges life can throw at you, it could be much worse and losing weight without those drugs was not that hard at the end either (it is way easier with them though so a part of me despises them ;) ), but man, i would love to free up that headspace.

    I also disagree with Hasan about how obese people 'need' ozempic. For obese people ozempic is a drug that improves outcomes through weight loss, but for diabetics ozempic not only improves outcomes through weight loss but also helps them manage their bloodsugar more effectively and reduces the risk adverse outcomes.
    As a side note, we've also noticed vast difference in the quality of the information given, with regards to side effects and how you stay healthy while taking ozempic, depending on the context in which it is prescribed.

    • @seabass8154
      @seabass8154 6 месяцев назад

      This is why they are now producing versions that are made specifically for weight loss and not diabetes. As production on those increase, the off label use of ozempic will decrease drastically. Also, whether someone needs a drug or not is the professional opinion of their doctor and not you. Most people can not get this prescribed unless their doctor think they need it.

    • @samaraisnt

      YES, i’m so tired of the “only Americans are fat” or “Europeans are all thin” narrative. Actually, about half of every population is fat, across Europe and everywhere. It is 40-60% it’s 40 in skinnier places and 60 in unhealthy places, but it’s consistently the same, that is not a hugely substantial difference, you are going to find big people everywhere commonly. Obesity levels differ but even the US is not even the top three most obese countries. They are in the Pacific islands.
      also the shortage is so real it was annoying how hasan denied it. n i agree people with diabetes could die :( i feel like no one cares or downplays…

  • @IdunRedstone
    @IdunRedstone 6 месяцев назад +87

    I think one major thing hasan is missing is, ozempic is not needed at all for obesity. Other rich countries dont have anywhere close to same obesity issue and don't use that drug. It was causing shortages for diabetics (for whatever specific reason) and the obesity issue is due to american food culture (especially lack of sugar regulation) and car dependency. Would be a lot safer for people to give them walkable areas and healthier food countrywide than to make everyone dependent on ANOTHER drug.

And i'd say I was getting maybe about half of what you were (so 750 cal) on a better day. A lack of appetite and malnutrition as a result is absolutely not only what you described bro. You say with cravings you cant focus on anything well guess what bro malnutrition gives you incredible brain fog getting worse depending on your lvl. also depending on your kind of lack of appetite, you could absolutely still have stomach cramps and hunger which the pain absolutely causes a lack of focus. Idk if food cravings are worse than a lack of appetite but the reasonings you gave specifically are not worse but are rather comparable. Also if you're underweight and trying to gain weight but cant then a lot of your focus can also be on what you're going to eat and on meal planning so irdk what ur trying to get at. My dad is on ozempic for diabetes. It's going really well.
    He is encouraging me to try it because I have persistent weight issues... I think it might be a good idea.
    I don't blame people in Hollywood for using it - if you're gonna make yourself under-eat for a job, you might as well take a drug that makes you feel less shitty while you do it. (edit: But just to be clear, people who are already healthy and average weight probably should just try to live with their bodies as they are 😅)
    And believe me, I've tried regulating my damn food. I've gone months eating various restrictive diets, and I have lost weight, but each time I try again it gets harder and harder to cut calories. One time I was eating more lettuce than anything for months until a switch flipped in my brain and I just got completely disgusted at the sight of it...
    Like, to be clear, I'm sure if somebody fed me 1600 calories per day and I had no other access to food, I'd be fairly comfortable and slowly lose weight, but it's just not that easy to emulate when you're an adult who can make your own decisions and gets peckish a million times per day. The good thing about Ozempic, from my father's recommendation, is that it just stops you wanting to eat constantly. I've always been jealous of people who have that particular gift...

      Yeah I’ve always had a huge appetite and the only reason I grew up slim was because I was in sports year round. Once I hit college I realized I could no longer keep weight down because I wasn’t active. After college I put myself on a strict diet on 1700 calories and worked out and lost 30 lbs. but after some years of back to back experiences and depression I went back to emotional eating and gained 50 lbs. I was on adderall for adhd and surprisingly that curbed my appetite a bit and gave me energy to where I was motivated to workout again. Lost 15 lbs. It’s a lifelong challenge and sometimes meds unintentionally help.

      Be careful cutting calories, you can kill your metabolism. I was eating between 800 - 1000 calories a day while breastfeeding a baby and ended up gaining a ton of weight rapidly instead of losing any. Years later I still couldn't over eat if I tried. I'm lucky if I get up to 1500 calories a day and the only thing I have accomplished is stabilizing my weight. Doesn't seem like it's ever going to go down though. Keep in mind I have health issues at play in all this, but the fact still stands that extreme calorie cutting and yoyo dieting can screw your metabolism up something awful.

    There's nothing wrong with medical intervention when it's needed. But, that being said, I personally wouldn't take a GLP-1 strictly for weight loss because of the potential adverse events not to mention Ozempic, and Mounjaro are for diabetes specifically and people with diabetes need those medications. If you are considering using a GLP-1 for weight loss there are ones specifically indicated for weight loss with the same active ingredient (those medications are Wegovy and Zepbound) and other weight loss medications that aren't GLP-1 (Saxenda, Contrave, and Phentermine) that diabetic people do not take. If you do need medical intervention for weight loss then ask your prescriber about those because to my knowledge those 5 I listed are not for diabetes so diabetics can still receive their medications.

    Okay random weight loss rant. I and two other friends who were overweight decided that we needed to lose weight last year & started focusing on that. I'm 154 cm. I was at 80 kgs in march 2023 & now I'm at 61 kg in April 2024. I've still not reached my target weight so my journey is ongoing. However, my friends haven't even seen a 1kg reduction over the entire year. They obsess about portions, calories & excercise wayyy more than I do. They are constantly talking about how they want to lose weight etc but with absolutely zero progress. They keep asking me how I did it and I tell them the same stuff each time. I tried helping them with meal plans etc and nothing works. I realised that they actually just obsess about their weight so much that they end up sabotaging themselves. I eat more than them & I'm still losing weight!
    What I've realised is that don't go too crazy. Be kind and charitable to yourself & don't aim for unrealistic goals like 5kgs a month as soon as you start out. Losing 10 kgs over a year is better than trying to lose weight in a month, releasing & then going back to square one. Patience is the key.
    I was losing 1 kg per week in the beginning. Now at 61 kgs, my progress is much more slower but that's just how it works. It took me 3 months to lose 10 kgs & the 9 months to lose 9 kgs after that. Progress becomes slower but consistency is key. Have achievable targets. Doing all the stuff celebrities or fitness influencers do isn't sustainable for most of us with regular lives. That's their job, they can do all that. We can't. Not to mention, fitness influencers look good but keep in mind that having a chiselled bidy doesn't mean they're healthier. Fat is there in our body for a reason. Super low fat percentage is actually unhealthy. Be realistic. Aim for long term changes instead of having the mindset that you'll go back to how it was once you achieve your dream body.
    Also, when excercising, think about getting stronger instead of losing weight. It makes the process so much easier. I really fell in love with excercising when one day my dad asked me to open a jar for him. I was like "woah wait this is awesome!" and now everytime I excercise I'm thinking about how much stronger I'm getting. I even started martial arts at the big age of 27 because now I genuinely enjoy excercising and feeling stronger.
    Anyway, slow and steady wins the race. Just start making progress. Even if it is 1 kg in a month. Something is always better than nothing.
    Edit: I'm not saying this is something that works for everyone. I'm just saying that if you're in a similar situation as my friends, where you end up self sabotaging, maybe taking a step back and changing your approach would be a good start. Again, there is no one glove fits all. If nothing seems to work, it's best to seek help from a professional if you have the finances for it.

    With a planned diet and at least 2 hrs of daily walk i was able to lose from 3/4 to 2lbs weekly to a total of 90lbs in 2 years, depending on the calorie deficit.
    Laws of thermodynamics is matter can not be created or destroyed therefore calories in calories out.
    NOW as Hasan said yes everyone has different genetics and everyone has a different BMR despite having the similar physical attributes. Weather you want to do cardio or resistance training, diet is by far the most important factor.
    And it is your job to find your real BMR don't use on-line calculators those are not accurate at all. Log every single calorie that you consume and weight yourself over several weeks and you should be able to find your BMR.
    Also i dont trust ozempic it is being sold off as the opiods pills during the early 2000. And see how that turned out when opiods were prescribed as candy. 😑😑

For that reason its better used for people struggling with diabetes/severe obesity. But if you find yourself eating due to boredom or to feel good - it may be something you do for comfort when feeling stressed/distressed. Eating tasty stuff gives us a lot of dopamine! I do know that they were trying to loose weight already but they didn’t get anywhere near the results until ozempic was out and now Phil is using his weight loss as a selling point for his advertisements

    I write this as someone who has been on an obscene dose of antidepressants for about half a decade - ozempic is to those struggling wifh obesity what prozac is to those of us with chronic depression. My issue with both of them is the same. My mental health could be vastly improved if both our society and our economic system were structured in a kinder and more ethical way. It wouldn't cure me of a genetic predisposition, but it would go a long way to alleviating the symptoms to the point where I may be able to live a fulfilling life without medication. These drugs therefore become a catch-22 - you need them to make life bearable, but by taking them our society and economic leaders are relieved of all responsibility for their role in the exacerbation of what is otherwise could be a very manageable condition and lose the last remaining vestige of pressure or motivation to change. Am I angry with myself or my compatriots for taking prozac? Fuck no. Am I angry with people taking Ozempic? Again, fuck no. I'm angry that capitalism has once again found a way of financialising the very same health that it strips us all of every day of our existence

    • @Jacobwlane
      @Jacobwlane 6 месяцев назад

      Even when applied to socialised medicine, the same point applies. Free prescriptions operating inside a capitalist economy (in these cases) just allows the market to continue abusing consumers with products and material conditions that make us sicker whilst the state picks up the bill in an entirely imperfect way for a problem that originated within the market in the first place

    I was offered ozempic by my doctor and I declined. I've been morbidly obese since I was very young and would greatly benefit from it, but I felt really bad that I might be taking meds away from diabetics who legitimatly need it to survive. Wish it could be more widely available so I can take it guilt free, since I have trouble losing weight even with very restricted eating and regular exercise

    • @baludlad2173
      @baludlad2173 6 месяцев назад +3

      I’d consider taking it to treat morbid obesity as life saving prescription. It’s a chronic illness that leads to more chronic illnesses down the line… if you get diabetes (very likely) you’ll end up needing it anyway down the line. I think you should do what is best for you if you think it will help.

      seconded ^ esp if you’re pre-diabetic! if not take the kinds specifically designed only for weight loss, mentioned here and in the comments and you could probably look it up to be sure :) diabetics don’t take that one so no shortage for them! very kind and considerate of you but you can totally take it the right way now. good luck!

I have sympathy for people that don't have self control when it comes to eating, it was basically dilled into me since i was a kid. I will say that overeating isn't nearly as dangerous or morally reprehensible as some other coping mechanisms and guilty pleasures.

    Nah there really is a shortage. It’s more than Hollywood taking it to lose a quick 5 -10 and has become trendy. It has gotten slightly better but every time I have to refill it’s not available. At one point my doctor had to switch me to another med that didn’t work as well. Also, I wish it made me lose weight but at least it lowers my A1C. 🤷🏾‍♀️

    My father is on ozempic for diabetes-he loves it. My bf is a firefighter who has been really struggling with recent weight gain as a result of stress and sleep deprivation. He used to be very active and fit, but after working full time and doing full time paramedic school and clinicals, his lifestyle choices dipped pretty hard. It doesn’t help that he has a very unhealthy relationship with food, I would love to look into both therapy for his relationship with food and ozempic for him-it’s just a huge concern for when he’s on scene with a fire as well. And bc of the extra weight, he’s even more exhausted and depressed-even if he just gets on ozempic for a bit to lose some weight so he could have the energy again to go to the gym between his 24 hour shifts…. It’s something to consider

    i have a friend who is now struggling with an eating disorder after being suggested this medication by a spa- to lose 20 lbs at 20yrs old it is definitely being over prescribed by unprofessionals this is ct and she was average size stg it doesn’t go to people who need it. it goes to people willing to do anything to not be fat. not everyone is on it but too many people take it and we don’t know what will happen when this is regulated and people who don’t need it get cut off🙃

    There are so many better ways that the US government should implement to reduce Obesity, rather than for profit medication sold to the highest bidder rather than given to those who need it the most. Obesity would greatly reduce in any country with:
    - Nationalised healthcare and even pharmaceuticals
    - Walkable cities and public transport
    - Actual food and water regulations (including safe clean tap water)
    - more extra curricular activities for schools

On top of that the medications that I am taking to keep my hormones in check messes with my health and makes me gain weight. I am on a clean diet and trying everything to loose weight but it is SUPER HARD. 😅
