Golf 2 is the best Golf ever made
I used to own that car, bought it from my brother who bought it new, gave it to my mother when I got another car 18 years ago and to this date, it is still in the family! It gets passed on to younger cousins as first cars or to train for their driving licences ... great car, beyond reliable. A classic now, just like my Porsches 996, underloved for a while but future classics :)
Still a great looking car.
ladies ands gents, i present you...the best generation of Gti's, the MK2
In my childhood My dad had a white GTD Mk2, it was like the best car in the world, lot of sweet memories.
Great video. My dad had a pre-facelift MK2 Golf GTI 16v in tornado red 24 years ago - it got stolen by gypsies and they stripped the whole car out until it was an empty shell with no wheels
Red tornado, nice, very nice. I had mine 16v white. Good and emotional machine
So much love for the golf videos ❤️❤️❤️
Mk2 16v is the ONE
Great review...well done.
I loved my mk2 GTI 16v
Alex is the reason I subscribed.
I still drive a Mk2 1.8 8v as a daily, i have no idea what he is on about saying the steering isnt fantastic, where ever you point the car it goes they out handle most modern cars.
I would 100% agree with you 👍
I agree, although my mk2 16v in a straight line does get beat by most things these days get it on the twisty stuff and even a lot of modern hot hatches will struggle to loose it in their rear view mirrors, it's always nipping at their heels.
Loved my Mk2. Now I have a Mk6, which I love, too.
recaro seats, 16v engine, BBS wheels, 4 headlight (euro) grill and big bumpers all factory... This was my dream car when i was 15 and now my 16 yo son's dream car go figure
its mine at at 22 as well
We had a mk 2 16v for almost ten years. Solid, dependable, fast. Just a great car.
Me two. Now I have the Mk7, the other best GTI
@@rafaminus5366 I've not driven anything newer than a mark 5. I'd be surprised if there had been no improvements in that time.
Given how good the 5 was, I can't imagine you'd need much better than the mk7.
In fact they might get worse again.
@@allosaurusfragilis7782 I drove the Mk5, still is the car of one of my friends. It's a good gti, no doubt. Really I've drove the 1,2,2 16v,5, and 7. All, good cars and the same heart
@@rafaminus5366 the wife had an r32 for ages as well. Her brother recently bought it off her. It was different in feel. Not as chuckable, similar performance and a brilliant noise, which never got old. Totally reliable as well. He's resprayed it and put new wings on. Looks great.
@@allosaurusfragilis7782 Good , good
Still my favorite hot hatch.
Greetings from macedonia we have many golf vw mark 1 and 2 ❤❤❤❤
Love my mk2 16v it puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it.
I undertand you. I had one 25 years ago and it was the same. Smile, smile. Now I have my Mk7 and...smile,smile. Gti is a lifestyle
Yeah they done good there !
There mint cars I’d buy one now before they start to go up in price which they will in a few years
Which Golf is best Golf?
AutoAgitator Tiger woods
AutoAgitator golf
Would be nice if you added that the MK2 had almost all the extras available like a new Golf. E-Seats E-Windows E-Mirrors ESP ABS Power Stearing and guess what SSA! Start Stop Automatik! Yes you could get the Mk2 with SSA. And not to mention the VW Golf City Stromer and there was so much more but yes Airbags and Navi was not an option but who needs thoes lol
The mark 2 was a great car, from what I remember it lost it's title to the Peugeot 205. I'd of lover either back then. I was running around in a GTE.
It was the mk1 that lost its title to the 205 but bear in mind it was almost 10 years newer they were almost an exact copy size shape albeit the 205 rounded all the edges and slanted the nose slightly same weight engine type, the mk2 16v was the same era car as the 205 wich had better steering better handling and brakes with more power than the mk1 (20 bhp more than the 205) then people always forget the mk2 scirroco 16v basically a mk1 golf chassis with a different body had all the benifits of modern brakes suspension etc and 140 bhp with only a 50 kg weight increase over the 205, its funny vw were always slightly ahead back then but people always seem to compare there old car to the newer models of other cars, another car that gets pulled out the bag is the rs turbo but vw already had had the polo g40 wich was faster than the uno turbo and renult 5 gt turbo (i.e it had no turbo lag) and they also had the g60 in the pipline wich was released a couple of years after simmillar weight to the rs turbo but 30 bhp more and no turbo lag. Aaaand breathe thats my wee rant over
@@stevenanderson7471 It's funny you mention the Scirroco, I had a secondhand Scirocco GTE (few years old) for a while but I hated it, It looked the business with a good bodykit and GTi badging (said GTE on the logbook) but the aftermarket suspension made it feel like a barge on the motorway so I sold it on after a couple of months. It had an E??? ??? reg plate in the UK which meant it was registered new in 1987, It looked great but it felt like a POS on the road so I sold that and got another Astra GTE.
Never heard of a gte scirocco even had a quick look to check, could have been a print error perhaps but there was the gtx wich was a very kitted out boykit wise compared to older models also known as scala and scala 2 normally written on the door pillars there were gtl models aswell but all these models had underpowered engines compared to the mk1 gti golf engine the 16v scirroco had the mk2 golf 16v engine (140 bhp ) there were only a handfull of these to even see one back then would have been a very rare occurance . The mk 2 scirrocco is just a mk1 golf with differant panels
@@stevenanderson7471 In that case it was a GTX, Being more than 20 years ago it's easy to forget the details I just remember it being badged GTi on the car & being different in the log book, easy mistake to make.
Does anyone know where I can find one of these for sale?
Love mark 2's ! Its the best car VW has ever made, and i have driven them all. Its the car that makes me smile the most, its not the fastest but the enjoyment can not be beaten !
if you wanna check my daily driven Showcar, its in my channel :)
I thought plaid seats were a GTI staple?
Loads of seats to choose from
I used to buy and sell mk2s had loads of them, drove one as my own car for many years and loved it, I just don't get why people hate the mk4 tho, I wouldn't pay the £10,000 that people are ask for their mk2s, but I'd pay £2,000 for a good mk4
Mk4 is a great all rounder 👍 i have an 8v mk2, 16v mk2, 1.8t mk4 and pd130 mk4. All bases covered... a mk3 vr6 in the fleet too 😁
1983
Where is Alex now he isn't on here full time?
He’s at Motor1 UK I think
Was not really a small car I had five door so solid compact but roomy!
Of course the mk1 had better steering feel when on a track - it wasn't power assisted
CEO ride like literary exit date laser.
There was an even bigger bland-wagon with Ford after the stonkingly good in every way Mark one Ford Focus with its radical inside and out looks and its gorgeous handling. The Mark 7.5 Focus ,,,, after a seventeen year creativity drought ,,, is at last again a Golf rival.
SuperWHIZZO mk1 focuses (foci??) were the tits. Shame the vast majority have been scrapped or written off.
I HAD a Mark one Focus petrol 1,6 for 7 years ,, my best pal,,,,, traded it for a Mark seven Focus diesel in 2013 ,,,, hated it for 2 years ,,,, now enjoying a mark 7.5 ,,,, a vast improvement on mark 7 !!
The A2 Gti is fantastic with the 12v VR6 TURBO
Lol I want it as my first car 😊
Mk4 alll the way
Golf it's mark 2
The Mk 1 was the best .
the usual remark that mk4 is not so nice to drive as a sporty car as older ones should be taken with caution....of course that newer car grips better and is faster, but it maybe lacks dramatic sense at speed....so, there is no better or worse in that sense, it's only a matter of preference....I am fed up with that pseudo 'car enthusiast' snobbery. the car people think they send a great statement of knowledge and competence by shitting on mk4.
Mk3 for definate
MK5 best looking hands down
mk7 of course its got plastic oil pan
16v > 8v
Fastest car in Bosnia..
Mk1 is the best gti
