e92 for me because of the improved cabin and v8 engine. As a race prepared car I can see an e46 m3 be better though, it has less weight to fight with to begin with, something that would be a real issue on the e92

Mk2 is the best for me, MkV the second for putting it back on the map.

Mk7.5 looks the best next to the mk5.
Mk7.5 also appear to have the best performance.

I disagree with the end bit the mk3 gti is a great car deserving of its gti badge the fun iv had with one is definitely deserving of the gti badge

NutriFIT nutritie si fitnes the mk1 wasn't fast either the mk3 is deserving of its badge and for people trying to get in to perform cars it's a good platform to start with my opinion

btw it's not VW when it's not 3-doors. 5-door, 4-door - nah, not canonical formula. Only true VWs are 3-doors (Beetle, Golf GTI, period)
