    Hello brother... After long years, I came to saw my mp3 player Philips gogear raga SA3RGA04R/97. But unfortunately it was not working I can't switch it on. While connecting with charging adapter it is getting on and showing goraga after that it shows updating but then it is showing the battery charging icon. But not charging... What should I do. It was a great gift from my dad. And even I enjoyed hearing it alot in my college days.. Now I feel sad after seeing this condition.. So please help me to sort it out.. Please make a video on this specific model. Other wise please send me the links. Thank you..

      Hi,
      Given the symptoms you have described here it seems that the battery inside is dead. 😑
      I can't make a video on that particular model because I don't own one.
      This one surely looks a lot like yours: ruclips.net/video/UwA_acNNRlo/видео.html
      Maybe it helps. 😕
      PS: Another thing - Never fully charge the battery if you plan on not using the device on a longer period of time (i.e. a month or more). Because that shortens the overall lifespan of the battery. Discharge or charge the battery between 20 - 35 % then shelf the player. 🙄😆

    • @davidbolha
      @davidbolha  4 года назад

      @MMOkou Hi,
      Well you could try replacing the battery. 🙄
      But that requires some precision soldering. 😕
      Perhaps even switching the PCB board that comes with the new battery because of the old one that has that extra wire (NTC). Though I think you could even do without that. 😊
      Because most (especially newer) LiPo batteries only come with 2 wires (positive & negative terminal).

      Hi there,
      I have a player as describer in this video but have the same issue as you. Shame cause it was a pretty nice little player that I had given to our young son.
      It broke after I plugged it into a usb wall socket charger. Now I am wondering if it was only meant to charge through a laptop and I shouldnt have used a random usb plug.
      Did you fix the problem in the mean time?

    • @davidbolha
      @davidbolha  4 года назад

      @@healthyrootsstrongwings538 Hi,
      What exactly happened ? Did the USB female socket break off the PCB or what ? 🤔
      You can charge this device either via the USB port off your desktop or laptop computer or AC USB wall adapter (i.e. from your phone's charger). I'm not certain though about connecting the MP3 player to a smartphone or tablet for just charging or transferring music on or off the device. 🤔
      What are the symptoms of your failure ?
      PS: I have no issue with this MP3 Player. Everything is working fine. This is just a disassembly guide/tutorial. 🙄

    Hey ! Just saw your video... it gave me some hope about my old one.... i really don't know what happened to my one... it doesn't start but when i put a charger on it only show Philips and the screen tends to turn off and on for a couple of times... No sign of charging or what so ever.....

    • @davidbolha
      @davidbolha  4 года назад +1

      Hi,
      On the basis of your description of the problem I reckon that just the battery is dead. So it could be repaired by just simply changing the latter. 🙄
      Soldering skills required. 😃

      @@davidbolha thanks a lot for replying so fast... but the thing doesn't work if i don't put a charger on... the name only shows when i put the charger. For me now it's really difficult to find a battery here in Bangladesh.... what else can i do can you suggest me... please

    • @davidbolha
      @davidbolha  4 года назад +1

      @@nowshinhoque3613 Maybe that's a security feature of some sorts. Meaning that you need a working/flawless internal battery to use the player. Even when & or if by just connecting it to a 5 V power source (i.e. desktop computer, laptop, tablet, phone, power bank,...). 😕😞
      But you can just first try using a 18650 battery as a prerequisite to see whether your symptom would change. 🙄
      So... First disassemble the player.
      Second, use a digital multimeter to check the voltage on the LiPO battery. Measure it coming after the LiPO's alloted PCB circuitry & before. So directly onto the battery's terminals. This way you'll see whether the battery is really the culprit of your problems or not. 🤕
      If the battery is really dead, then we can assume that the battery's PCB circuitry is fine. So desolder the 3 points on the player's PCB circuitry. I mean the ones coming from the 3 wires from the battery. After that remove the small PCB circuitry that came with your original battery. Make note on which of the two contact points the LiPo battery's terminals go to. 🤔
      Then you cut those two nickel tab strips coming from the battery. After that use a 18650 battery by connecting its respective terminals (plus & minus naturally) to the PCB circuitry of your original LiPo battery from the player. Here I mean connecting it to those 2 contact point to which those 2 nickel strips were spot welded onto. 😥
      The safest way to establish the connection coming from the 18650 battery to the PCB circuitry's input battery terminals is by using 2 aligator clips. You add a small (i.e. neodymium) magnet to either side of the terminal of the 18650 battery. That way you safely avoid the risk of (possibly) exploding the 18650 battery if you'd have to directly solder wires onto its terminals. 😏
      The other way is to use a 18650 plastic battery holder. But in this case you'd have to solder the two wires coming from the holder to the PCB circuitry's input battery terminals. Or again you'd employ aligator clips to establish the necessary connections. 🙄
      You shouldn't connect the 18650 battery directly onto the player's PCB circuitry though. The risk of destroying the device is a possibility.

    My PC with windows 10 does not recognize my mp3 (same one as in this video). It starts, the "PHILIPS" shows up, then Gogear, then updating , and then an empty battery shows up. Its been like this for 4 hrs. I really want it to work but do not want to open it. Is there any other way I could fix it from my PC? Hi, Great video.
    The replacement battery you've linked only has two wires. Your video shows the original has three. The eBay battery does have an unused solder point. Do we add a wire to that point?

      That is correct, yes. No, I'd use a different trick. It's explained in the video below (at the given timestamp reference):

      @ 00:37:29 - 00:42:04

    • @lionelmrocki7955

      That's a thermistor connection. Although I've read that some of these non-genuine type batteries may not actually have the thermistor protection built in to them. In the vid you explain adding extra length to the wires for ease of assembly, but I'm still unclear. Do we add the third wire?

    • @davidbolha

      Lionel Mrocki You can try with or without the NTC wire. I personally would swap the PCBs. 🙄

      Hi,
      Well did you just try manually removing (i.e. deleting) the files off the player ? 🤔
      Do you have the Hold Switch turned on ? Maybe that is giving you problems with not resetting. Hopefully it is not broken or permanently set in the ON position.
      Huh... I doubt that will work as the information is stored on the EEPROM chip. So even if you would disconnect the power I doubt it would make any change. 😶😕

    Hi, I had charging issues with my GoGear SA1942 4Gb. I tried to repair it by using Device Manager. There was a power interruption to PC during repair. From then on, the PC and device manager stopped recognising the player. It will only recognise when connected with menu button pressed but repair is failing. When I switch to update mode the device manager stops detecting the player. It is not allowing me to update. Is there a way to connect it in update mode?Is there a way to trick the device manager to stay connected, when switched to update mode? or Have you got the firmware file for this device? Please help. Many thanks in advance.

      Hi,
      Sad to hear that. 🤔😕
      But what specific charging issues did you have with the player ? Is the battery still ok ? Maybe it needs to be replaced... 🤔😕
      You could try *"hard resetting"* the player that might help you with your issue. Sadly I don't know how this might be done. On different brand & model players you'd have to like hold down two buttons to achieve this. Like maybe the Power & Up Arrow button. You could try different combinations to see if the player behaves any differently then before. 🤔
      Perhaps it would be still better to contact Philips's Technical Support & ask them if this player does have a secret menu or Hard Reset mode (& how to access it).
      No, unfortunately I don't have the firmware for this player or even know how to make a "dump" off mine. 😕
