    You got some great shots there Will as this is my favourite photography l often find a creek and follow it upstream getting various shots of cascades and waterfalls. I moved away from tripods and slow shutter sticking to mainly 1/8th to 1/13th a sec relying on in body stabilisation but you have convinced me to take a tripod and go back to a couple of seconds. The most important thing l feel you point out is in fact separation.
