    Great overview! Honestly I can’t find anything wrong with this machine. Elegoo really listened to all of the feedback about previous generations and the 8K screen is just icing on the cake. One warning though - I believe that the USB plug on the inside is actually 24V, so don’t plug in any USB devices if you want the magic smoke to stay in! 😅

    So....simple (or maybe not so simple) question.
    Elegoo Saturn 2, Phrozen Mighty 8k, or Anycubic M3 Max?
    Been kinda stuck between the Max and the Mighty, and now a 3rd player enters the fray.
    Max is larger (build area), but only 7k, and larger XY resolution as a result. But has the autofil function.
    The other 2 are similar in XY res, (28 vs the almost 43 on the Max), Saturn 2 gives you an extra 15mm of height (vs Phrozen), and will be $400 cheaper (based on early bird price, $200 cheaper vs reg. price than the Phrozen)
    Did I kind of just talk myself into a Saturn 2?

    • @Patrikable1
      @Patrikable1 2 года назад

      Following. Already ordered the M3 Max for VOLUME prints, however since I m into miniature wargame I d like to have sth with extreme detail. If its the same quality as Mighty 8k but cheaper, I might end up going for it. But any advice would be appreciated.

    • @viper29ca
      @viper29ca 2 года назад

      @@Patrikable1 I kind of wanted the larger height, for larger builds, but the Saturn 2 only gives up 5cm in height, over the Max.
      I think the biggest I might build would be a 1/16 figure, which averages out about 120mm tall, so shouldn't be an issue. Could almost go double that size.
      Bigger XY like the Max (as it does give up almost 8cm on the X) would be nice, but that is the trade off I guess.
      I would be doing mostly 1/24-1/25 to 1/35 parts for models
      The autofill on the Max is a nice feature, just wondering if I would actually print so much at a time that would even take advantage of it

    • @leonandrews2668
      @leonandrews2668 2 года назад

      @@viper29ca Just ordered the Saturn 2, yesterday I almost ordered the Max as I didn't want to scrimp on potential size but ..... realised after some math that the DPI for the Saturn is soo much higher than Max (13.6" screen with 6,480 x 3600) vs saturn 2 (10" at 7,680 x 4320) means that the DPI on the saturn is nearly 3 x better and has that new tech to stop scatter.
      Plus .... about half the actual price! If they were about the same price i'd toss a coin, as it is though I just decided that higher quality and limiting print size to large rather than Xtra Large was the way to go

    • @viper29ca
      @viper29ca 2 года назад +1

      @@leonandrews2668 I did as well. Saturn 2, Mercury XS and 2kg of resin.
      The way I looked at it, the Mighty and the Saturn are virtually identical in capability, the Saturn gives you an extra 15mm on the Z axis, and is $300 less.
      I basically got the S2, Mercury and resin for less than it would have cost me for the Mighty 8, and I will get it sooner (supposedly)
      The Max really only what intrigued me was the extra room on the Z axis, and the resin auto fill. I figured I really didn't need the extra Z axis that the Max gave, and I could live without the auto fill. And yeah, $1100USD just for the printer. Just means I have money left over that I was saving for other stuff.
      Probably going to be looking into getting a flex plate for it.

  • @crazylegsmurphy

    Questions I still have:
    1. They claim a new type of lamp / screen. Does this actually make a difference than the Saturn. For example, are the days of seeing grid lines in prints gone?
    2. They claim it has a scratch proof glass to avoid damaging the screen during spills and scratches. But, is this glass attached to the LCD? Does it actually stop resin from getting on the LCD? Does it negate the need for aftermarket screen protectors?
    3. Are there any print issues like with the line through prints on the Saturn?
    4. Has the vat design changed in any way to aid in pouring out resin, changing the FEP, or seeing how much resin is still left?
    5. What is the difference between 8K and 4K resin and what happens if you print in 4K resin?
    6. Are any of the issues with the Saturn present in the Saturn 2? For example, the tendency for the vat screws to become stuck or sheer off. Does the light still get stuck on.

    I think I can explain the fancy new light source/lens better than the paperwork did. The fresnel lens (pronounced frenel) takes the light and makes all of it point directly upwards. One way you can see this difference is to turn on the little test elegoo logo, put a sheet of white paper on top, then lift it up. On an older model you will see the logo get bigger as the light spread out. On this newer machine the logo shouldn't change size despite you moving the paper further away.

    I've been playing around with a fresnel lens for the past 6 months or so on a modified Photon Classic. Works pretty decently but I need to set the focal point back just a tiny bit more. It was basically an acrylic fresnel magnifier (not the floppy kind, maybe about 1.5mm thickness) that I cut down to fit in between the LED and LCD. Cost maybe 5 bucks for the piece
    The idea was bounced around a little bit a couple of years ago by some people around the time paraLEDs were making an appearance in the modding space but I guess paraLEDs gained more traction
    8k resolution is going to be nuts. Looking forward to the new gen printers

    "COAL-min-ate-ing"
    Basically, it means to organize and is used when you organize waves, wavelets or quanta. For example, to focus light is one way to culminating light.

    Is the exhaust port right bellow the main port? Fresnel len's are very common. Mainly used for thin magnification. Oculus uses fresnel len's

    Your word you're struggling to pronounce is 'call-uh-mate' and it means it has optics that make the light waves more parallel. That helps reduce divergence or in other words the light waves don't spread out as much. They stay closer together. Which sounds like it would of big benefit to sharper details etc.

    Gonna be a miss from me as long as they stick to the ball socket for leveling - can't beat the 4 screw brackets for a permanent level. On my Saturns, if I had to be a bit more persuasive removing a print, I could never 100% trust the ball socket to stay where I left it.

      I have to agree here about the build plate. I just can't bring myself to not relevel it after every print, every single time. Even though I've heard countless people online say that they leveled it the first time and then did print after print just fine. I would have much rather more time was spent on that instead of making the front look like a Transformers chest.

    Hey Uncle Jessy! Is there room on the back right of the printer to add another 1 of elegoos filters? I'm worried the single 1 on the left won't be enough.
    Also, the mini elegoo filters have a usb power port... do they have batteries inside or do they need to be plugged in? If they do have batteries how long do they last?

    I have the Saturn 2. My first was the saturn and I put the hand on a mars 3. I had some fail print with the saturn 2. It is the most tricky of my 3. Setting are not A1 on Chitubox and I had to execute a lot of ajustements to get a 100% success print. Once you find the right setting its awesome. I greatly suggest the mars 3 pro before that one.
