  • This message is just so important. Eating LESS or choosing low calorie options is mostly counter-productive.
Obviously, I’m not talking about eating a Mac and Fries here, but about eating sufficient, nutrient rich foods, in the right amounts.
A lower energy meal might be a low-calorie sandwich or salad pot boasting 350 cal for example. But it could be a salad with tuna made at home so a healthier option.
From my experience in Clinic, when people eats low calorie meals it often backfires. 💣
    Why?
❌ Your body is not silly. It knows how much protein, fats, carbohydrates, and nutrients it needs to function optimally.
❌ Eating too little of the right foods can send out hunger signals soon after we finish the meal.
❌ if you are not eating enough the flow of energy will dry up after a couple of hours!
❌ Not only will you feel starving again again but you will also feel a dip in energy, focus and probably your mood
❌ This extreme levels of hunger send us back into teenager mode, where we have an increased desire for sugar and snack foods that are rich in carbohydrates and sugars. whatever it is, by this stage we know we need it!
What I see in Clinic is the people that eat LOW CAL MEALS experience more of the following:
    - hunger
    - Never feeling full up
    - always thinking about food
    - more likely to suffer from mood swings and energy crashes
    - snacking
    - More sugar cravings
    - battling with weight maintenance
    Therefore, it is counter intuitive‼️
Adding a few extras to your plate, which I called the bells and whistles, adds natural healthy proteins, fibre, fats and carbohydrates which will probably keep you full up for longer so that you eat less calories overall throughout the day and of better quality.
It might be a handful of Edamame beans, some extra avocado, a gorgeous salad dressing, a sprinkling of feta, handful of walnuts, a whole tin of tuna, a boiled egg, some lentils, beans etc.
This sends a text message to your brain that you don’t need any more food.
Adding up your calories is the emotional equivalent to a bad hair day. You end up feeling terrible about yourself. Try this instead and be kind to yourself instead. ❤️❤️
