Thank You! This one actually took me a long time, I got to the point where I felt I had a mission. I also couldn't find an article or a video anywhere else, so I thought I had to make it to help mankind 🥃
haha, if only I had the time to do that! I watched some guy on RUclips today show his 2020 earnings, $1.5mil, I'm sat here wondering if he spent a couple of months sanding resin into ice cubes 😂🙈
@@nageshwagh2476 My gosh, you're right!! I totally forgot about this lol! I wonder if any of this stuff still exists after covid?! These two videos were my RUclips meltdown videos lol.
@PhillipSkraba I would like te see some links as well ;-) Thanks for a lovely video! Where can we find the next one where you share how you made yours?
Whoa, thank you for this video. Now, I have never paid that much attention to the look of the ice in photo's but I will now. So, I am now interested in making my own ice so I can have my own personal fake ice. Thank you for your very detailed video.
Ice is pretty cool stuff, I got real deep in ice, crazy deep, and it was fun. If photographed well, most of these cubes can look awesome, sure, some have different uses than others, and making your own gives you control. I have one more video currently on ice, where I make my own, I go through the whole process, check it out, that might come in handy as it took me quite a while to perfect.
Thank You! This was more of a video on the ice cubes and comparing them. In terms of light, 300w snooted on to the background, 200w bounced up into styrofoam, small light down on ice, side light on side ice, mirror bouncing on to label, mirror bouncing through ice in glass. I'll be doing a lot of videos this year on how to setup a shot like this and many more, keep your eyes peeled.
@@PhillipSkraba Yes of course ;) But thank you very much for your detailed answer! That definitly sounds awesome and I really looking forward to your tuts. Keep on this great work! Love your content ;)
Sure Kyle, 04:25, those are the only ones, but as you can see, they float because they're full of air bubbles, so they look good in Coke but maybe not serious drinks.
Hi, can you tell me how to make the liquid for a fake picture of ice tea? I love your video as it was incredibly detailed but simplified for understanding.
Hi Karen, so I haven't tried iced tea, but I use ceylon gold tea in hot water to get the colour of whiskey, and I dip it in a few times to get the colour just right. When it's cooled down I then pour it in the whiskey glass, otherwise it'll steam up.
Aight Philip, I'm here because I'm making a short film where someone wakes up in a bathtub full of ice with a missing kidney and I wanna know what prop ice cube was the best bang for your buck and is made out of something that won't hurt.
To be honest, I'd go with real ice, just to get those goose pimples popping, otherwise it'll look fake. IF you had to pick up some fake ice though, go with the 3:28 model. It's Chinese, you can pick a ton of it up from Amazon and it looks fairly real. However... they don't float, and fake floating ice cubes cost a ton for a few, so I'd once again recommend going back to running down to the shop, picking up 2kg of ice cubes and convincing the actor that it'll look best and s/he has to suck it up.
Those are so hard to pick up Kurt, but I got mine here - www.snowart.pl/26,plywajacy-lod.html You might need to do a search for "fake floating ice cubes" and see what Google turns up with in your part of the world, well, unless you're in Poland, then that link is golden.
...yes I did, and it seems that was a dire mistake. Drop me an email if you'd like me to fix this, looking at your website I'd be happy to do just that.
There's a local company here in Ukraine selling (locally produced) fake ice, should buy some and send em to you. Would be fun if you got flooded with ice from all over the world xD Fake Ice Part 2, Fake Ice Ultimate Guide, Fake Ice Manufacturers Respond 😂
I'm pretty sure I bought almost all the fake ice in the world, I searched high and low for any other kinds but couldn't find anything. I really hope no one sends me any ice! This video took way too long to create, took too many hours of my life and will probably only get 50 views, but at least I did it 😂

Sounds like a good plan on paper. When you get on set, take them out of where ever you kept them, stick them in a glass, turn on some lights, watch them melt away, dilute your key product, it’s not going to look so great. These allow for working all day and above all, repetition of shots, which is usually a must in drinks photography.
@@jonny3541 I didn't either on one of my shoots for some whiskey about 15 years ago, haha, I had no idea how to do food photography back then, what a nightmare.

What about the link for getting decent-sized ice cubes? All the ones out of China are just too small!

Bit ice is almost never THAT CLEAR.
Well, it is if you use distilled water like they do in bars and films, then sure, it'll be crystal clear like the fake ice in these examples.
I'm thinking, doing a custom file and polish on the cheap Chinese ebay ones might be a good compromise.
Possibly could work!
Are all of these food safe (except the crushed glass)? We usually drink our drinks after.
Oh gosh, no idea. I guess so, I drink mine too and I’m fine 😂

The not floating is always distracting to me.
I agree, mind you in tumblers it’s okay, as the drink is usually low enough and doesn’t lift the ice off the surface of the glass.
Covid lockdown boredom?
You could say that 😂
