Brilliant! Now to somehow find enough space in my freezer for a small cooler.
Thank you! Glad you like it. I’ll be honest, I had to clear out a couple shelves too and wipe the doors down lol.
Thanks for the info
Anytime! Cool little trick huh.
Is it really just air that makes it cloudy? I always assumed so, but even in Sydney, Australia, where there is high quality water, I find the unfrozen water left behind looks kinda murky... wouldn't want to drink it.
I think the cloudiness is mostly dissolved air in the water not crystallizing but you’re right, the leftover water is a much higher concentration of all the minerals, salts, and miscellaneous stuff. I wouldn’t drink it either lol.
Fantastic idea 😁🙂
Thank you!
Why do you freeze the entire chest of water if your trays only take the top 2-3 inches? Im pretty sure you can pull them out after 24 hours.
I didn’t freeze it all the way through but it did freeze maybe an extra inch below the bottom of the mold. I once tried pulling them out at 24 hours and they were not fully frozen. Good point though, 36 hours would probably be enough. The extra ice around the sides and bottom is just because the insulation can only do so much to stop the cold around the container.

Ok, so where do you get the trays and what are they made of?
I think I got them off Amazon but they are 2” Silicone ice cube trays.
I like how Tom goes to the mayor is playing in the background.
