My response to Aaron after every video: Keep....on....talking!
I do a lot of work as a copy editor and proof reader. Style guides are my hammer and chisel, and I often have to write them myself. Your intro on style guides and how they apply to guitars was fascinating to me..
Aaron is so smart and well spoken. Much respect.
Wait a minute!!! Aaron is using a Grolsch washer! I don't know what's real anymore.
LOL.....I'm totally messing with y'all. :)
This should be illegal! 😳
Someone call the Hague
Great video! I owned a manufacturing company for years and it was an incredible struggle trying to get the customers to understand various custom options. For one thing many people refused to read text at all. They wanted pictures. Everything was pictures then, now everything is video. Now with Amazon, people just order anything without looking into it too deeply and expect to send it back if it’s not right on account of their ordering the wrong thing. Oh well… Great to see somebody else’ sharing the pain on US manufacturing and doing the fantastic job that you guys at Warmoth do. I don’t think the average person has any idea how difficult manufacturing is. There is always something going on, always. Particularly with a natural product like wood which has blemishes, different colors from batch to batch, a different way of receiving paint finish from lot to lot. On and on, thanks for doing it!
I love my Warmoth guitars.
Finally....somebody who **gets** it! :)
Aaron is such a smart guy. I'm a scientist and he's far more methodical than nearly everybody I work with.
LOL....I didn't wear my Wile E. Coyote - Super Genius for shirt for nothing! :)
Quite the magical journey. I like it when Aaron gets to ramble.
I've spent the past ten years advocating for people to follow the style guide where I work. Preach on, brother!
LOL....the hardest part of style guides isn't writing them, it's getting people to follow them.
A thoughtful and interesting discussion of stylesheets and style guides, Aaron. Thanks!
Awesome seeing you again, cheers!
About time we see you again. You spoiled me with your home videos and a good cup of tea.
Amen brother.
Never thought I would learn this much from a video about tuners. Thanks, Aaron!
You learnt something about tuners?
Very interesting video! I absolutely love the finish on that guitar too! It's beautiful
Another good video 📹from warmoth, thanks Aaron 😊👍
This was fascinating!
As an American living in Japan and teaching junior high students English, I approve of this video!
😎 Good to see you Aaron!
Slight correction: "Two nations divided by a common language" is attributed to George Bernard Shaw. Probably doesn't make my guitar any more in tune tho!
A minute of Googling, and your story checks out. I stand corrected.....I had always heard it attributed to Twain. And, as if offering his commentary on my mistake, I also came across this Shaw quote: "Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance." Touche, Mr. Shaw. Touche.
@@warmoth I suspect we are all a little less ignorant through watching your videos. Keep on pickin' Aaron!
After absorbing hundreds of hours of RUclips and seeing/hearing British people talk about guitars, I like hearing and sometimes using the “alternate” versions of words they use for guitar parts, like “fingerboard” and “peg head”. It’s fun.
You’re the coolest Aaron!
That finish looks amazing
Technical Writing 101!
Excellent video.
great work!
Interesting insight, thanks.
Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada here. I think I a video of office staff or workers dancing along to Surfin USA by the Beach Boys would be good for a laugh. I think we all need it.
Interesting discussion today, Brother Aaron 😎
Thank you Aaron🙂
Over 6 minutes in and Aaron finally gets to the tuners. 😆
haha! Did I mention the boss was gone? :)
I too enjoy videoing myself twirling in the boss's chair as I dish on what's wrong with the company and how the top brass screws everything up. Haven't done it in a while. I'm between jobs.
Man I love that color scheme. I hope y'all come out with it again.
We can do it as a custom off-menu option at any time. I'm sure we'll do another limited run at some point.
@@warmoth I asked about it a few months back, I was told that there's a chance that the purple will fade and will show mostly green because of the way the flame is. So I thought I would wait until there is another run of them so I can look to see which I like best for color. :)
Awesome!
I’m shopping for tuners right now. I know what the heck now… thank you!
Ok, the real question is what is the difference between the Schaller and sperzel options (both 10mm)? I'm buying a warmoth neck and putting hipshot tuners (10mm) in it. Does it matter which hole size, which are seemingly the same, I choose?
Hmm, i was hoping you were going over the different styles of tuners.
are there any staggered locking tuners on the site? i couldn't find any
Just needs more videos Aaron, no one's complaining here
Aaron, what is the body wood and finish of that guitar? (Not the amazing top, the back/side body) Is it mahogany and clear?
Yep.
Your left hand plays the strings on the fretboard. So it makes sense that they should be on the left side of the head stock when playing a Fender type guitar.
What kind of amps do they have kicking around the Warmoth office there? You must have something there, right? Pedal board there too? A jam room perhaps, with a drum kit?
Can you tell me more about the gorgeous guitar you're holding? Is there a vid dedicated to it?
ruclips.net/video/PHY4AD55wuM/видео.html
I promise to watch the entire video. I can’t wait! But I wanted to make a quick comment about the Style And Usage document as it pertains to FedEx. Instead of them worrying about how their logo looks, perhaps they should focus more on getting their packages delivered at the promised time and upgrading their customer service and online tracking updates. Okay. Rant over. On to the video!!
Schaller and others have always put the letter L in their 6 inline tuner sets model numbers. It always made sense to me - left side of the headstock.
That is the industry standard - right or wrong. Glad I watched the video so now I know how Warmoth does it.
@warmoth ***best video idea I have*** it would be cool to explore the sonic difference of the 24 fret reposition of the neck pickup. Take a strat body with a boat or H route in the neck. Play with a standard pickguard then A/B with a different guard that cut for the 24 reposition. I bet the difference is pretty big, but I would love to be proved wrong! (Bonus points if both S & H pickups are used) :)
And now, to finally, really, really arrive at the point of this whole video comment, I finally, really, really, like Aaron's videos and wanderings...really.
That was clear and concise. What country are we in?
Ever consider a video about string trees? normal, roller, graphtech self-lubricating, bass/disc style, Stewmac's/Glaser's 3-string-stringtree mod, all the trees! Staggered tuners with or without trees? Love these super nitpicky gear videos!
This is an example when a picture is worth a thousand words, when ordering tuners, a shot of them overlaid on a mock headstock is the best.
Sperzel. Problem solved. 👍🙏
A couple years back I think I talked to you over the phone. I love my Warmoth guitar. An American custom made guitar $2000+ is way more affordable then Fender custom shop.
Thanks.
A vexing style guide question at my work: When does one use the words "a few", "several", and "many" in a written product? You'd be amazed at how heated the arguments can get. Our style guide does not specify a threshold for each. Meanwhile, I'm partial to Fender Classic Tuning Machine Heads.
where did you get the super genius shirt?
RHP = Right hand pick or play
LHP = Left hand pick or play
So...example
RHP 6 = Stratocaster style headstock
RHP 3x3 = Les Paul style headstock
So example, easy to work out.
LHP 2x2
RHP 3x1
Where has this channel been all my life! 😎
Hi Aaron ! The WarHead headstock is possibly the most striking brandstyle Warmoth has !
PS: how was it spinning around in the boss' chair ? :-))
Amazing. And once I've taken over the company I begin my plans to conquer the world!!!!
@@warmoth 🤣🤣🤪🎸🥸🥳
A video about the tuners you off would be cool
FWIW, if you buy Sperzel tuners and get the wrong set, they can be disassembled and have the orientation changed.
Raise your hand if you watched all the way to 10:31 waiting for a Marvel like teaser of Aaron’s next video. 🙋🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Haha....sorry about that. Blame RUclips. Something went weird when I uploaded it, and by the time I noticed it there were already tons of views.
I like the way you explain stuff, dude. And by dude, I mean just some guy. Not some kind of cowboy fairy or anything like that.
I seriously thought this guy was the boss. Aaron P. Warmoth.
My guitar came. Its the most wonderful Telecaster there never was. Twenty second video of it's beauty on my profile. I'm a believer in Warmoth.
...my *body* came, I should say.
Lovely fingerboard you got there!
So? I thought Warmoth was selling guitar *parts*, not guitars... 😳
I love your t shirt.
It seems Warmoth follows industry standard nomenclature for tuner handedness. IE which side of the headstock the tuning key sticks out from is the handedness of the tuner. Too bad Ebay vendors don't. They seem to think it has something to do with the handedness of the guitar!
I need a Kramer Baretta 1989 rosewood neck with hokey stick neck.
My mind was blown about the visual/writing style guide stuff. So obvious but never thought about it. So important for a company too.
Tuner labels are the most confusing thing ever. You have a right-handed guitar, but the neck is on the left hand side. The tuners are operated via left hand. So the tuners are left side tuners, for a right-handed guitar. This has to be the most confusing part of shopping guitar parts. And the thing is that I don't think too many webstores have different images for the left and right side tuners, and sometimes the headstocks have interesting hole configurations. And even if the pictures were different, you can't quite intuitively figure out which direction they should go and what shape are they when they are left side or right side tuners. You just have to know this.
Would using left hand tuners instead of right make any actual difference?
Yes. They’d be backwards.
@@anothernewworld9650 but would it effect tuning stability considering you can tune up or down?
@@JaeTLDR1 if you try and mount the wrong tuners the wood screw that secures the tuner can stick off the edge of the headstock. If you look at the back of a headstock, say a strat with common tuners ie a small wood screw on some shapes of headstock that screw hole will be off the edge or more commonly the new tuners screws won’t line up with the old ones if you’re trying to replace existing tuners
just my 2 cents guess: why don't call them top/bottom instead of left/right?
But what about the unwritten video style guide for you playing a huge variety of stuff :-)
HOTDOG IN A BUCKET! I’d love to get a warmoth DIY guitar in my collection one day. ONE DAY!!!!
That's what I am talking about! Living the American dream!
I just had to tune in 😜
I was hoping for a machine head shoot out, or heaven forbid finding out if copper shielding changes the sound of your pickups and in what way.
Warmoth could even offer copper shielding as an option.
We do offer two kinds of copper foil, but you have to install it yourself.
What is worse in a good way is if you have 4 and 2 tuners. Plus they should use M6 minis anyway.
To bad we didn’t get a video of you laying down on an office chair doing the mime of swimming under water. Fun whilst the bosses are away. I would have laughed so hard.
I hate when people call it a "tremolo bar" (looking at you Fender).
I call it a wiggle stick, there's no confusing what that does.
Fender's style guide author was a moron... 😩
@@schmoemi3386 Leo Fender: "I've invented a device that will allow a guitarist to vibrato all of the strings at oonce! I shall call it a tremolo. Also, I've invented an effect for my amplifiers to rapidly oscillate volume, aka tremolo! I shall call it a vibrato."
You should always order right side tuners, so if they dont fit, at least you got on Warmoth's right side.
Fully expected this to be a Seinfeld gag. "What's the deal with tuners? Who are they and why are they always tuning?"
Warmoth,PLEASE make a 7/8 size REGAL guitar body--with a carved top as an option. I love my Warmoth guitars but I'm looking to downsize, guitar body size.
Go warmoth
Aaron say hi to Spike for me,I'm looking for some new necks.
I still wonder how planet waves lock auto cutting tuners are underestimated....
Aaron, that guitar you are holding must be getting increasingly heavy? If you were to send me that beautiful yellow S style guitar behind you, then you would have room to hang that heavy guitar you are currently holding.😊
Probably the most common error I see on a consistent basis:
It's a maple NECK, if it is constructed of a single piece of wood, with the frets attached directly.
It's a maple FINGERBOARD, if the fingerboard is a separate piece of wood from the neck (which may be the same, or different wood).
I'd say the typical Warmoth customer clearly understands the distinction and is far less likely to make this mistake. But, as a general observation, it's rampant in the guitar community.
Hey!
I'm TRIGGERED that your Turtle logo is right handed.
Please, have a Lefty playing Turtle logo to calm my agitations, PTSD, my mom issues, etc
Thanks
Any you're holding a right handed guitar with turners on the 'left side' whereas a similar left handed guitar will have them on the 'right side'.
Sorry I was distracted can you repeat that?
This comes at the right time.....or left time.....damn I am confused now
Roasted Maple vs Baked Maple. Stain versus Dye. .gif versus .gif.
FINALLY, thank God someone's teaching correct guitar nomenclature. C'mon tellem it's an output jack on the guitar, not an input jack and a vibrato , not a tremolo or whammy, Go for it! Let's get some precision back in the English language for fk sake.
Why are you using straplocks you dont like? xP
Congratulations....you have arrived at the joke. :) I wondered if anyone would notice.
Can you give me your Warmoth guitar?
Locking tuners or vintage style only in my honest opinion.
I get wasted and pass out while playing a lot lolz. When I wake up I don't want to find my face sliced open from head stock strings hanging off.
Plus I accidently cut myself or poke myself on em all the time on them things. Sooo annoying. Especially if your headstock is amazing looking and you can't resist touching it because it's amazing. (I own a black falcon PE lol... Gimme a break lol.)
It honestly doesn't matter much though. Whatever works for you is best I guess. I'd go with locking though if you put a gun to my head.
Change strings the fastest basically... And the tune holding is pretty good of course.
Don't you mean "keep on plucking"?
Let me consult my style guide....
I don’t see any pheasants, turkeys or chickens😉 & where does a ‘Pick Guard’ get its name, I wonder?🤔
What's the deal with tuners?!
If they are the tuners what am doing twisting these and looking at some gizmo,
Which is somehow also called A TUNER?
Fork tuners? I wouldn't want to eat a steak with one of those.
Thanks you've been a great crowd
As a web developer, my big issue with graphics style/design guides is that marketing does them on a Mac while I'm working with Linux or Windows systems.
That shouldn’t matter if they are good deaign docs especia for the web
lol @ the chapter names if you didn't write them yourself. Someone was not a fan!
“Tooners”
I never really cared for tuners until today
Um... Aaron... You do know you have almost two minutes of black screen at the end of your video...?
Seriously, though, it's so much easier to define tuners by the handedness of the intent, the way Fender, Sperzel, Schaller, Gotoh, etc do... IE, "6 in line, right handed" means that the six tuners are in a single line and in the traditional location of a right-handed guitar with 6 in line (what you guys are calling left-side?). If there's three on each side, it's a "3+3". If it's a 6 in line with a reversed headstock, then "6 in line Left handed".
Of course, if you just get Sperzels, this is never an issue, since you can simply reverse them with a small screw driver. Comes in handy if you're doing a MusicMan stile 4+2...
