    Speaking from someone who actually owns and have previously bought a few cars from both of the brands and coincidentally had the chance recently to testdrive both the Q7 and the XC90 for an extended amount of time, the Q7 in my opinion, handily beats the XC90. True, a lot of people fall for the tasteful design of the XC90 as well as the saftey features it brings. Where the Volvo design emitts character, the Audi does the opposite, looking very plain. However, that's were the pros stop. The interior of the Audi looks and feels way better. They haven't fallen for the trick of letting one screen do it all. To me buttons, is a crucial part of making the car more safer because you don't always have to take your eyes from the road to operate everything. Plus a resonable amount of buttons/switches makes for a more luxurious place to be and not just empty and clean looking. The Audi has the screens too, with the virtual cockpit and everything but does however a better job of mixing it up. I also can't help but to notice an excessive wear and tear on the seat upholstery of the Volvo demo unit, as well as an unusual amount of wear and fading of parts of the dash that is usually subjected to a lot of "human contact". Further noticing squeeks and akes from doors and tailgate and the general feel of a lightweight construction shutting the doors, convinced me that the Audi (showing none of this) had better quality despite both cars being relatively new demo units. Volvo (probabily for emissions and environment causes) opted for four-cylinder engines all the way through the entire engine-lineup which unfortunately for Volvo, really can't match the instant feel of comfort, ease of speed, and the sense of assurance that a six-cylinder V6 brings. Better chassi and better ride overall with a lot of adjustment capabilities (air-suspension, drive select etc.). Finally tech-wise the Audi wins yet again with things like four-wheel-steer, trailerassist (look it up if you don't know what it is) that the Volvo just doesn't have and a 30-some safety features making this car very safe as well.

    Just took delivery of 2019 Q7 yesterday and couldn’t be happier to be rid of my GL 350. 9 seconds vs 5.7 seconds for 0-100km, come on, how can you make those comments about the Q7 should have a diesel. I have 4 kids and even they are happy about giving up some space for the drive quality. Test drove a demo XC90 and was pretty happy until a clunk developed when I eased the gas on and off, bad sign for reliability when a test drive unit already having problems. Love the Q7 and very happy to grab a 19 before the 2020’s hit the lot with the extra touch screens. Looks nice, but I’m not ready to give up buttons and dials for basic functions.

      @@prabeeshsidhu it has been excellent. I’m not sure how they get the performance out of this gas engine and yet have better real world fuel economy than I got with the GL 350 diesel engine. My only gripe to date is the front brakes didn’t last as long as expected and the callipers need to be replaced with the pads so it’s expensive. I’ve learned adaptive cruise control is great, but aggressive on brake use so I now click off the cruise in advance if I don’t see space ahead to make a pass. Will see how much of a difference that will make in the long term. Outside of that, not a big fan of have no spare tire and the limitations that brings with new tire selection, will be more aware of that when purchasing my next vehicle.

    The Q7 drives much better and handles better then XC 90. I test drove both and I was not much of a Audi guy. I purchased this. Put 2,500 miles. I wasn't 100% sold on the exterior design but it will slowly grow. The Tech is State of Art. I was sold on the DRIVE. I made a good choice. Q7 a luxury Suv thats drives like a sport car. XC90 a 4 cyl engine, come on.

    Audi Q7. Why, I drive an Audi A6 avant now and have ordered the Q7!! The XC90 looks a great car but I found the driving boring and the engine sounded poor. The Q7 has great build quality, performance (I have ordered 3.0 D 272PS, 600nm torque!!), very quiet and practical. Ordered air suspension to improve towing capability. Granted not the best looking car, but great package.

    the Audi, because it feels like the Bentley bentayga and looks very luxurious! XC90 looks nice and probably is nice, but nothing, definitely not the Mercedes, beats the richness and drive quality of this Audi ... go for the e-tron!

    at 3:43 he mentions that the car would be better paired with a diesel engine.. from what i have read, and esp in Aus and perhaps UK, the car only comes with a diesel.. please correct me if i am wrong. does the Q7 come in a petrol engine variant in the US ?

    I don't know what the hype is about in the Mercedes interiors, unless you are talking S class the Audi interior in my opinion is higher quality and design beats Mercedes. Audi is sleek and fresh, Mercedes is nice too but it's kind of old school tbh.

  • @MrLathor
    @MrLathor 8 лет назад +4

    I understand that you are a diesel fanboy. But in light duty mainstream consumer vehicles it is simply a dead end technology. The cost of making a diesel emissions compliment is becoming higher than electrifying them. You seem to complain about any engine that doesn't have diesel power delivery whether its a Cadillac CT6 or a heavy SUV. Some how 5500 rpm is too high for peak power, when that's about as low as it goes in modern gas engines.

  • @darrenchou

    XC90 build quality is awful. See the water leaking issues on Volvo forum. Battery issue on T8. Air suspension noise etc etc. Also Volvo dealership experience is far worse than Audi's. Service department is not luxury level at all.

    • @stephennowlan2637
      @stephennowlan2637 4 года назад

      Couldn’t agree more about dealership experience. Many years ago I dropped off my car for service and walked down the street to Volvo with my young son. The front desk looked at me like I didn’t belong there. I wanted so badly to say I don’t know what you think I do for a living, but I see you are a door greater. Fast forward, I like the look of the XC90 and I purchased a Q7 for every other reason you can think of

    Im looking to get a Q7. Car and driver did intstrumented test and it trounced the volvo performance wise. Majority of the reviews leans towards the nimblness of Q7 even the specd out models that weigh over 5k lbs. I test drove one and the acceleration was great for an suv that size. I see where that 5 sec 0-60 comes from. I even test drive a Cayenne turbo, which of course have amazing acceleration, but I still was impressed with the q7. Not a fan of the volvo tablet screen..its cool but do not want to be swiping while driving. Prefer the audi pad. The exterior design takes a little to get used to but im liking it now. I plan to do a apr stage 2 upgrade on it so it will have more haul power.

    Diesel, seriously? Wha diesel has to with its size!? This engine is just perfect for its size. What's wrong with car accelerating under 6sec to 60mph!? Perfect for dense traffic and city driving. Fun to drive in general. Nobody comes close to it at this price.

    It would either have to be a Q7 or XC90 with their fresh, minimalistic interior designs. The GLE's dash is pretty much the same as the rest of Mercedes' range, which is no bad thing, but you'd want your £50k GLE to stand out significantly from a £30k C-Class. I'm definitely glad that the UK only gets two 3.0 TDI quattro units (218 / 272 PS). But it's important not to forget about the Range Rover Sport too, which is also a very compelling SUV. "And for good measure" I live in Wales (UK), and drive a 2004 Vauxhall Signum 1.9 turbodiesel (150 PS / 320 Nm) - I'm 17 so this is my first car 😄

    I love the XC90 but...not crazy about the 4 banger. yeah I know, supercharged and turbo...buut, is that really a substitute for displacement? Interior wise, the Volvo kicks ass, and for me..why it's still in the running. Mercedes and BMW just bore me, although they are competitive. But you see them everywhere. Range Rover sport is in it because of it's look and build quality. But the interior is bland, and underwhelms. *sigh*. For now, Volvo gets me the most excited, although I will revisit the Mercedes GLE and S respectively. I looked at Cayenne also, love the interior. Exterior just falls flat for me though. So, there it is. oh, as far as the Q7 goes...the interior just doesn't get it for me. And the exterior is just..o.k.

    love the interior and exterior of the xc90 t8.... but the engine is total failure, 2ltr 4 cylinder... yes it has another electric motor but you can only use it most of the time on city driving on long journeys good luck driving and relying with your 2ltr engine (no matter how much super charger / turbo you pair it with its just a total fail)

      You are so 110% right about the 2 litre. It should have been a 3 litre V6 for the hybrid. Or a V6 diesel. Volvo's 2 litre is no match for Audi's V6 in terms of refinement, consumption and dynamics.

    I'd go for Volvo XC90. I haven't driven neither of them but I've sit in both. XC90 is much more roomier, looks more luxuries and upscale. You seat in Q7 you first thing that comes to your mind is technology, you seat in XC90 you think luxury and elegance. I rather go for luxury, and more space.

    seeing how inlove the gl line from mercedes cause I once owned a gl450 i would choose the old Q7 v12 tdi because of the size and drive dynamics (even tho that v12 tdi wasn't sold in the US) with the new Q7 tech features because I really don't understand why audi made te Q7 smaller than the previous Gen when they already had a in house battle between the Q7 and Q5 based on size for money which the Q5 won if you ask me. they should've made the Q7 bigger to go against the likes of a GLS and RANGE ROVER and leave the Q5 to go against the likes of the GLE and XC90. tech wise it's good and yes they should've made the screen available with touch sensitivity but I don't like the body style. that's just me

    In other words, Not to brag or anything, but I know Patrick Dempsey ;)
    I like the new interior design, its not Audi's best work, but if spec'd right it could be quite a handsome interior … come to think of it, I think the new Q7 is the only car where you invert the wood veneer & the aluminum trim positions. You can choose which one you want on top …. Heck, I think with the right amount of $ Audi Exclusive can make it a single piece of wood on the dashboard.
    However it still got flaws:
    First, unlike Mercedes & BMW you can actually see the holes\cutaways for the ambient lightings on the lower trim itself on the dashboard …. Ain't pretty.
    Second, and this is what annoys me the most …. The damn exposed cup holders & tray on the center console! To give you an idea how much I despise those, my Kia had them & I actually designed an entire center console, drew the blueprint on AutoCAD with accurate measurements & everything after I picked a design from my sketches …. I even made sure its simple bolt-on design that sits on top of the original center console, but I couldn’t find a shop that can fabricate it the way I want.
    I'm kinda glad All Wheel Steering is making a come back … The 911, CT6, 7-Series & now the Q7.
    My pick would be the Range Rover Sport with only two options… The V8 & The Panoramic roof. Then, I'll swap out the dubs for the 22" Range Rover Turbine wheels & the exhaust for the SVR one.
    As always, excellent work M!

    The XC90, it's lighter, filled with safety features. It has a built in booster seat for children. And it's Volvo's current halo car.
    Audi's receive too many updates which kill the resale value.
    The audi might make a good lease but their lease terms are no where near as favorable as their competitors especially Mercedes

    • @USASPORTSCARDS
      @USASPORTSCARDS 8 лет назад

      You'd be surprised, at the moment, all Audi's are cheaper to lease compared to their Mercedes counterparts. My credibility? I own a wholesale auto leasing firm. With $2,000 down, I get my clients payment at least $50 cheaper on Audis per month than I do on Mercedes.
      Assuming $2,000 due at lease signing
      A3 - $229 a month - CLA - $349 a month
      A4- $299 monthly - C Class - $359 monthly
      A6- $399 a month - E350- $529 monthly
      A7 - $729 monthly - CLS - $799 monthly
      Q5- $359 monthly - GLE - $699 monthly
      The Mercedes market has changed as over saturation has finally taken effect.

    This is the first review in which audi is not better than it's rivals. I would bought Q7, Volvo is very good and nice car, but I watched many other reviews that compare these two car. Audi is more expensive, additional equipment is also more expensive, but always win comparison (especially according to driving dynamics). GLE or GLE Coupe, in battle with Q7, no chance, my opinion. One more thing, why you always, in every single review must say something about S class interior? You are comparing interior of 100K car with much more cheaper one ( no just q7, also tt, sq5). It makes your reviews really cheaper. Please stop favourising Mercedes.

    I'd choose Q7 with Alcantara and mechanical gauges. Why: because that seats are the most comfortable, and if I am going to buy a car I would need real gauges as hardware, not a vibrating LCD in a game... Volvo made a big fault with its' mega LCD. Their slogen says safety is the first, but their act shows different. You as a driver why would waste very expensive seconds to check the LCD while the things happens on the road at the front of you?! Come on wake up, those LCDs are the biggest fakes of car-industry to reduce their production costs and show you something very sparkling into your eyes...

      +Vanneker 330bhp isn't impressive, but Audi have their reasons. Its the same motor that appears in the S4 B8 variant. Its deliberately detuned because the RS4/5 exists and Audi want to maintain the hierarchy. This engine can be easily "tuned" to 400+bhp through a simple remap. Have a look for Chris Harris's Audi S4 vs Audi RS4 video :)

      +stubones Is that the VR6 engine?

      No I don't think it is. It's an engine specific to Audi (not VAG) and is assembled in Hungary. A REVO stage 1 software upgrade can take it to 415bhp and 395 lb/sft of torque and then its pretty quick, capable of matching a V8 RS4.
