*CORRECTION: The 2017 Audi Q7 comes equipped with a Supercharged (not Turbocharged) V6 as stated in this video.

Supercharged 3.0 L V6 is fast and powerful with max tow rating 7750 lb and is more than the Jeep Gladiator and most other entry level pickup trucks can tow! Amazing capability. And looks great inside and out! And bargain-priced too.
I don't understand why people don't like the design, I think it's classy looking
I agree. Way too many cars and especially SUVs look garish. Audi and Lincoln look classy.
Big Quattro fan here. I used to go to Atlanta and buy Audi's a "dime on the dollar" after the 60 Minute Massacre. 4000S Quattros were my flogging car for a couple years. I had two of them, one white, one black. Loved the old school Quattro too... lever out first snick, center differential locked, pull it all the way out, full Quattro. I drove one, with full Quattro engaged, around a hard left sweeper (that right exited to the sky and certain bu-bye) so hard and fast, never braking, foot fully in and holding the wheel tight, it cracked the windshield! The Audi 4000S never left the road, but flexed just enough to crack it good. I just took the good windshield off the white donor car and kept rolling. Eventually sold it to my mechanic, who kept it block stock and drove it home one night up a long mountain road in 13" of new snow. No drama at all.
Love watching the father son videos! Such a dynamic duo! Especially when you two were gunning Tommy's Cooper up in the twisties! In regards to the Q7, starting to grow on me. Since we got my mum the '17 A3 I'm finding Audi's subtle design very attractive! Interior finish is on another level than my '16 BMW 2 series as well!
Keep up the great work boys!
You can adjust the lane assist to kick in early or late. Late only adjust as you get too close too the line.
It's a shame VW no longer offers the Touareg with the locking differentials and air suspension that were offered in the original Touareg. That vehicle was night and day more off road able than just about anything other than a Land Rover. The Q7 is a decent vehicle, but it's let down by the lack of true off road locking differentials and underbody protection.
I think the old one looked more authentic. Everybody said it was huge and it did look big but it wasn't actually as big as it seemed. Also the ground clearance seemed better on the old model, even without air suspension. AND of course the correct and logical engine for this car is the 3.0 TDI (don't know if you get it in the US anymore after the big drama).
Here it is, 2024, and I’m checking out a 2017 Q7 Premium Plus with the tow package. I loved how smooth the supercharged V6 was compared to the super/turbo 2L four in the XC90. Normally, when I test drive an SUV and climb back into my 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Limited, I ask myself “What were you possibly thinking when you test drove this SUV???!!! This Avalon is amazing.” After test-driving that Q7, I did not have that feeling. I think I may have found the right SUV to replace my Avalon (which is still the best car I’ve ever owned, but my needs have changed, and large loads and possibly towing take precedence over astounding MPG; I’ll miss the 45 MPG highway, but the Q7 is a compelling ride.)
Right? I just purchased a 2017 Q7 T3.0 Prestige and absolutely love this car! I cannot believe the tow rating on this "car" and mine even came with a tow package :) It's classy looking and the interior is top notch! Also, the little things Audi does to make the driver feel safe - I can't explain it, but it's there. I purchased mine right when we had ice and snow all over Southeast Missouri and driving it around, I never felt out of control between streets that were plowed/treated and ones that were iced/snowed over. I am so thrilled with my purchase!
I love all the drone footage! I flew in to Denver a few weeks ago (it was snowing when we landed, haha), and drove to Moab. What a beautiful drive through a beautiful state. I love CO! (Moab was epic too...7 days of mountainbiking, and one day on the trails with a rented Rubicon)
lane assistant is terrifying? seriously? it's one of the best features of the car! helps on long commutes on hilly roads a lot. especially when it's combined with active cruise control
asupshik sorry if you need your car to keep you in the lane on long drives you should get out and refresh, your driving is unsafe IMHO
xlthumper that's your personal IMO. lane assistant does not drive for you. it HELPS you to drive safe. on Califirnian highways and long commute it's very helpful. my wife is recovering from terrible accident (not her fault) and she primarily drives our q7. she loves lane assistant and all other safety features. lane assistant is not invasive. you just need to spend some time to get used to it.
asupshik I'm very sorry to hear about your wife, hope she has a speedy recovery, it is cool technology, just being a professional driver I see too many people doing their makeup or eating while using this technology instead of letting it be an assist they use it like auto drive.
Great video as always!
Nathan, Roman, I'm curious to see how the Q7 will do at Gold Mine Hill, Stage 3 section. Is there any chance you might get to test the car one more time?
Me too!! I just bought one and am keen to take it a few gnarly(ish) places and see how that off road setting works on rocks.
This generation doesn't look any better than the last one, very plane jane and boxy. Seen this on the road a few times and didn't look twice. The interior is amazing though especially at night time.
My mom has one of these, I took it through a creek crossing and drove it up the creek a bit, I was very impressed with it
My dad recently bought a 2017 Q7 and the thing is awesome, super torquey and fast, even for a normal car, but he decided to put Nitto Grappler tires on it and it's insane lol, don't know why he'd put it on a car that mostly made for pavement but still pretty cool
Credit for having the only actual Q7 doing anything offroad, even if mild, in 2022.
The Prestige model comes with a larger screen, but I will be interested to see how well the larger, touchscreen displays work. Like in the Q8 and the new A8. Although, I also keep hearing that touchscreens are tougher to operate while driving than Audi's current MMI.
Wow that's quite a bit of snow for springtime.
The air suspension makes a world of difference, especially in terms of off-road ride height
sam fiorentino not really I tried it out and it's better but not that much
Nice SUV! Love the father son videos! You guys are great!
I want to hear the car working not being drowned out by this stupid music such a shame.
Jonny Jones : completely agree.
Dude its a Q7 not an R8. It sounds like a muffled vacuum cleaner.
Interesting in one video you bash the DJI Mavic but now your using it in this video. How about another video on the Mavic and your Fresh opinion on it and its features.
But why would you ever want a huge screen? The Audi screens are perfect size.
Billy Bob Thorton A8 and A7 screens are huge right now😂
If is small for you can always put 32 inches tv inside lol
When will TFL begin a towing test for SUVs? We all know & understand how trucks can tow, but Americans are buying more & more SUVs & many can tow, such as this Audi Q7. I would love to see an Ike Gauntlet SUV towing test with about 5,000 lbs. Please????
You used the world 'careening' in the proper context - yay! Great video, guys.
word*
Gentleman, who in their right mind will make a winter off road review on summer tyres? The argument that people will be driving year around on summer tyres is just......
If you wanted off road, you out in BFGoodrich KO2s. All seasons are highway tires.
Many people don't go buy a new set of tires for that 1 week per winter they would be useful
It will finish the gold mine hill if it stopped snowing. Trust me
Not with those tires
ThatGearHead If it is only covered in dirt, it might finish it. Self locking centre diff and a low first gear, some of the hardware is the same as VW Amarok and has been proven tough. Don't forget optional rear LSD
Great looking car except for the taillights mix with the tailgate looks a bit weird but overall great
Nice but I am still buying 04 Toureg. Great channel guys.
Holy Cannoli indeed! I love this car.
When are you going to take the Tesla model X off-road? or at least some challenging snow conditions?
That's a beautiful place over there
Nope..the fact that Audi's are boxy and square is why they're so cool!
Offroad?! Where?😂
Exactly. He just drove through a big puddle.
Nice job making lemonade from a lemon of a day.
Robert Gordon g
Seriously beautiful drone footage!
Great video! Thank you for the review Roman!
Any plans to test drive the 2.0 L turbo in Colorado?
Can someone help me please.
So this is my question.
I have a trailer and I need to know how to use tow mode on the 2017 Audi Q7. Could someone please help. Thanks
This is a bummer, I wish I could've seen it go up Goldmine hill without so much Snow.
Supercharged, not turbocharged
Winson 123 tfsi Means?
Thanks, that's right. Our mistake. The engine is Supercharged.
KHD; Turbocharged fuel stratified injection
Winson 123 superturbohydrocharged
so how come supercharged
Hello, what camera is being used in the first minutes outside the car? TIA!
what did you think of the previous model?
Great drone footage, thanks!
Question for TFLC would you get GM Tahoe or Audi Q7
He lost me when he said front design is bad, c'mon man! You got questionable taste 😅
At least the front face of the Audi looks better than his face. He should look in the mirror
I thought in the US brake lights had to be affixed to a non moving part of the vehicle. No trunk of lift-gate is allowed.
the brake lights are on the bumper below the tailgate
gsdfgshertyerh no, they're not. They're on the trunk door
look at a video of the car with the brake lights on. in the US they all light up. it is US federal law that brake lights not be affixed to a moving part as eternaly was asking. the bumper lights act as brake lights in the US
of course she can, 25 cm ground clearance and 55 cm wading depth.
The car is not being asked to do anything more than any road car could handle. It's not off road, it's on an unmade ROAD! Making a car drive through puddles isn't really testing anything is it? I think the car is too much car and not enough off roader. Way too mild. Makes sense now why you're testing in puddles.
They were going to run it on their more challenging Gold Mine Hill Track, but there was an unusually heavy May snowstorm that blocked access to the hill.
A lot of car brands like Ford are using the hexagonal grill
Nice video
Love the video angles provided via drone!!
volvo doesnt want that tailgate. the lights on the tail lights up so you should see better
i own one of those, and i would remove the small screen comment (you only use the dashboard one). However one thing on this car sucks balls: voice recognition and destination recognition (when entering address manually) is absolute rubbish. Can take 5 mins to enter a destination. Then it switches to Google search after failing (no default google search), then it works in 1 second... frustrating. Otherwise the car is a delight to drive on the road.
You're absolutely right. I own a fully equiped Q7 too.
Do the gold mine hill!
supercharged... don't know how you can make that mistake!
Just your average gravel road that we also have here in Finland (we got shitty roads...) and been driving through them with my girlfiends Toyota Yaris no problem. But sure, Audi might provide more comfortable ride compared to Toyota. But that road wasn't really a test of Audis capabilities, but it's not an off road car anyway so it's all good.
They have a much more challenging test area, but they explained at the beginning that the area was snowed in, so they had to come up with an alternate test.
@@JBM425 Would've been nice to see some snow driving. We get that a lot here in Finland, so it's kinda natural to us to drive in snow with all kinds of crappy cars, since it's about 1/3 year on the ground 😆
How much did the drone cost
That thing don't belong there - it's build to race down the German Autobahn and annoy drivers of classic cars who are trying to have a good time while it's bringing an annoyed, over worked person who hates driving, to their destination xD
It's like a big joke seeing one of those getting dirty, but keep up the good work, I like your channel a lot!
Not a fan of those infotainment screens in the Audis either. Great review!
The engine is supercharged. Good video though.
Take it on Goldman Hill pls
Says the screen is almost the same size as his iPhone, puts the phone up to the screen and it ends up being almost double the size, even though he puts it 6 inches away
the only thing I dont like about this car is that it looks more like a6 allroad than an suv
Is the q7 as off road capable as the xc90?
Other than design, the XC90 is no competition for the Q7.
Amazing SUV !
Styling wise: Boxy > Curvy
Could a Q7 with the V6 tow a JKU on a a trailer?
It can tow 7700lbs with the tow package
❤Audi
absolutely. just wash it asap after..🙂
Must be Gas. The TDI has more torque output
What happened to Nathan?
Why would you make a video of this car off-roading was looking forward to some acceleration and driving dynamics reviews
Because that's what they do, lol
The original plan was to take it on their usual Gold Mine Hill test Track, but it was snowed in by an unusually heavy May snowstorm. This was a “make lemons out of lemonade” Plan B.
Overall the cost of ownership in a Audi is very high, but a Subaru would be much lower of course. Would be nice if you could test the Outback on that trail. Oh yeah I forgot about that video I'll have to dig it out of your archives.. 😂😁😂
Audi is Best luxury SUV
Range rover is best off road SUV
That car would no issue if it had winter tires to get up gold mine hill
Perfect.
the ground clearance is very low for a full size suv....,strange
This is ground clearance in sports mode, when you go off road mode the car has air suspension and will go 3-4 cm more. Regardless base ground clearance is good enough, it is better than most other competitors. base GC is 21CM
Intrepid Milotic Wrong. The model they are driving does not have an air suspension.
ZAIN ABBAS looks like a station wagon had a baby with a full sized suv
@@robertnrobretual2749Doesn’t matter. The fact that the air suspension is available is germane.
Nothing a DUster couldn;t handle. Next.
Bring back Nathan
you should test with summer tires, not allseasons... allseasons are pretty much no good in any time, works but not good in summer and not good in winter... good summer versions are better...
What's the point of this? A luxury Crossover that's not designed for off-road will easily go through mud puddles. It has Audi's Quattro. I can control everything from the wheel on my virtual cockpit without the need to look away from the road ahead. The dash screen is perfectly sized too without being a distracting monstrous touch screen. Waste of time getting that thing dirty. SUPERCHARGED........
This was not the original plan. The original plan was to take it on their usual Gold Mine Hill test Track, but it was snowed in by an unusually heavy May snowstorm. This was a “make lemons out of lemonade” Plan B.
Ok so as far as I understood no off road capability. Have a bit of momentum and Civic can drive that road.
The design is good; geared towards conservative crowd
I own this vehicle and I can honestly say, this guy has not a clue of what he is talking about. Active lane assist can be turned completely off if you don’t like it but its sensitivity can also be adjusted. 94 you weren’t such a shitty driver and were able to stay in your own lane, it wouldn’t go off. Drive the interstate all the time and never hear anything from the active lane keep. And why would you let go of the wheel? It’s not meant to self drive!
Stuck up screen on the dash ? No thank you
Next time you drive through a puddle of water , go a bit slower, want to see how the traction controls work
The center locking diff on these works it's best at lower speeds that's why in off-road mode you're limited to that feature up to 40mph. If you have the adaptive suspension it's even better in lift mode however, you're limited up to 20mph with that feature. At least on the 4L models. Between me and my wife, we own 2 of them, Tdi models at that. These vehicles are FAR more capable than what is discussed and displayed in this video. Honestly, it was very insulting watching this as a long time Audi enthusiast.
4:32-4:34 is what she said...
Greetings from Czech Republic! Great video as always :) We do have summer weather out here already.
Anyway, I just looked up at audi.cz and they claim this 3L tfsi to eat about 7.7L/100km which is 30.5mpg :D How funny is that? I hate european manufactures to lie like that :/
Hello Back from Colorado
GoroPohy - I think in Europe they are giving you MPG in imperial vice US. TFL is giving you mileage in US gallons. The Imperial gallon is larger. This would give you a perceived higher MPG. Growing up in Canada during the change over I always got confused on MPG ratings because we used Imperial, while advertisements were in US, and the government started using metric.
That is not off roading ,, you stayed on road ... the road is hard packed and wet in places,, not challenging at all ... 11:20 About being first with the tail lights in the hatch ,, You need to look into that ,, it has always been illegal per the NHTSA to have the brake lights on a movable body panel ,, perhaps VW/Audi got an exception.. could be a story ...
Brian Tracy why is it illegal almost all cars have moving tai lights in the trunk
Vic Cao I think the concern is that if someone is driving with the trunk open then the vehicle would not have visible brake lights.
Vic Cao no most cars don't, the q7 has a second pair of brake lights located on the left and right side of the rear bumper that will activate if the trunk swings open unexpectedly, the q5 has this as well, also the Lincoln Mkc and Mkx, and the Mini Clubman.
Colorado Biking the q7 when you open the trunk it has secondary tail lights that light up they are near the bottom
Vic , you are WRONG ,,, if you look at most cars you will find that there might be a plastic lens on a movable panel but it is decorative ,, to give the taillight a better shape... the working part of the light is on a non-movable panel. HERE'S the Applicable rule from the NHTSA www.nhtsa.gov/DOT/TP-108-13.pdf
12.1.1.4) MOUNTING LOCATION/HEIGHT Each lamp, reflective device, and item of associated equipment must be securely mounted on a rigid part of the vehicle, other than glazing, that is not designed to be removed except for repair, within the mounting location and height limits listed in the below table, and in a location where it complies with all applicable photometric requirements, effective projected luminous lens area requirements, and visibility requirements with all obstructions considered.
about hawk
Your nephew?
I know Audi is capable car but where’s the off-road
all that snows gonna melt within 5 years....sad!
Terrible review. When the title says off-roading we expect mud hill climbs and driving in snow not just driving through puddles. If any of you guys want a proper review channel look at Carwow- top notch journalism from Matt but as for this, pfft
Did you even watch the start of the video? They explained how the original plan was to take it on their usual Gold Mine Hill test Track, but it was snowed in by an unusually heavy May snowstorm. This was a “make lemons out of lemonade” Plan B.
nope
Bro you must be kidding me. You are testing a Q7 in a muddy trail in which you can't even get stuck or smth. Like the surface of the ground is hard as damn rock, and you call that seriously muddy
mmp到了国内又是几十万的税.........囧
a subaru stock.
off-road ?
hey look a volkswagen atlas! 🤭
Is this close to where John Denver crashed?
