Hey everyone! I'm excited to share my real world review with the new Sony A7RV. I'm testing out the new AI focusing unit to see how well subject recognition works on humans, animals and insects. I also have a portrait photoshoot on the A7RV where I share lots of SOOC jpgs with the GM 50mm f1.2 and GM 35mm f1.4. I have included both 4K and 8K video footage from the A7RV and a low light photo test. I will also have some more creative photoshoot behind the scenes on the A7RV coming soon on some other lenses. Let me know if there is something else you want to see with this camera!

Thank you for watching! - Хобби
So happy for you that you got your hands on this amazing camera early on for review.
Always appreciate your reviews! Thanks for putting this together 😎
Glad you enjoyed it!
Best review so far (I watched at least 5). Very practical, many examples: top!
Suggestion for the future: Nobody is talking about the camera itself. So how do the buttons feel (compared to previous/others) etc.
As a wedding photographer I don’t like flip screens but I’m so glad that Sony is listening and added that screen mechanism to please their customers. So sad they didn’t put it on the A7iv.
Opposite for me. I constantly use the LCD screen
as someone who also shoots weddings I love the flip screen!
Exactly and they didn't put it in the FX30 which has been announced less than a month ago is a bummer
The A7iv does have a flip out screen though; it was released last December. Pretty sure the Sony A1 was the last body to feature the swivel screen. Sony then departed from the swivel screen to the flip-out with the A7iv
@@networm64 Yeah. For video operators behind the camera, the flippy screen is really annoying. But it's great for top-down shots or awkward angles. Sony could have made the FX30 perfect with this screen.
HECK YEAH!!!! So darn excited for the a7RV!! Definitely picking up this camera since I still have my a7Riii. It's time for the upgrade! Thanks for the review Julia!
It was worth it? I still use the a7RIII for my editorial and commercial gigs. Thinking on buying something new, but it is the 61MP really noticable? Thank you!
@@mairoarde yes, for portraits, i prefer more mega pixels to work with. At least 50 mp minimum and 61 mp is more than enough. I still have my a7riii and still is using it as well.
If you want to upgrade, the a7RV is definitely worth it over the a7RIV. You get 10-bt colors for videos, incredible autofocus and the dual flip/tilt lcd as well. It is pricey but well worth it since the camera will last 10 years.
Amazing! Thank you! yeah, those video features are great! @@harryvuemedia5106
Great review as always, thank you very much for the info and entertaining video
Julia, love your work! I recently bought the A7rv with a new grip and found that the grip did not fit and later found out that that is an issue with the current grip sold and said to fit as per the Sony Corporate, but I can tell you that after taking it back to Precision Camera in Austin Texas I was told that I was among numerous a7rv owners advising that the battery grip fitment was off. I had a gap that I was able to see through. Was wondering if you had the same issue if and when you tried a battery grip with your camera. There is a big thread on DP Review regarding this issue. Hope it gets fixed soon and maybe you could contact some of your Sony rep's and see what's up with this issue. Keep up the good work. Thank You
i don't know why but the 50mm 1.2 looks really good or should I say, you're killing it using the lense! thank you so much for doing the video reviews and providing sample gallery too!
Thank you! I have been really tempted but I still haven't bought this lens. I borrowed it again for this review as I thought this new 50 will look so good with the A7RV!
brillant review of the product. thanks!
Oh my life. The unedited photos @6:40....the colors are beautiful. That sold me.😊
First A7RV review i've see how crazy powerful the AI is. Wow! Thanks for sharing!
The video this camera delivers is super impressive and the filter you added is amazing can't you add those presets for video also on your app
Awesome review. Have a good week Julia
I know everyone is always raving about "Sony colors" and how they got better and were so bad before. As someone sitting pretty much in the middle of all with my A7iii, I always wondered how big this effect really is.
Not that you have shot a lot of the cameras here lots of times, would it be possible to make a true side by side of jpg and raw from the different generations? Like, putting one of each generational leap side by side just out of interest?
Other, great video and insights. Especially the screen looks like a more than welcome addition for photo-centric people!
its night and day specifically for photos. I hated changing temp and only to find skin tones off
I hate my A7III colours :(
I've been shooting the a7riii for 3 years. As you might be aware, it uses the 2nd gen sensor (and color science). I've heard that some prefer it, but that's subjective. What I will say is that IMO the skin tones are pretty good, but at times are really off (not that often). I do correct skin tones to my liking on all images regardless. From what I'm seeing, Sony has greatly improved Auto WB more than the color science (which has improved with each generation) - more accurate WB will correct skin tone/color science in-consistences. Check out Manny Ortiz's video.
This is a really good idea, I'm going to see how I can do this to best show the colour differences!
Amazing video Julia!
I learned pro tips editing from you by taking screenshots from before and after of images and editing them
Thanks 🙏
Perfect upload, have just smashed that like button ✌
Great video. I have this camera ordered with a 24-70 G Master II :) Delivered tomorrow!
Great video as always, and I'm very glad Dan survived the fall lol
Nice review!! Can you tell me the settings you use for the focusing.
I’m going to wait and see what the 7v looks like before I decided on which one to get. I will probably do a ton of overtime at work just to save for one of them.
Great video thanks julia ❤
Hi Julia - Thanks for the video. I have an A7R5 and it’s a beast. I need a Hybrid BCam for the events to use 50mm 1.4. Do you think it’s better to get another 7R5 or A74? I’m planning to take both photo and video.
Hello Julia, thank you for video. Can you tell me how did you make photoshoot and display video record same time, with out any sender? what kind of app did you use?
La mejor presentadora en pocas palabras siempre vas directo te doy un millon de like 👍
May you please share your auto focus settings for humans? I am having a hard time nailing focus when my granddaughters are on the move. I am not sure what I am doing wrong!
nice review. do you use back button focus with afon button ? If not, how do you recompose in street photo,... ? switch to AF-S mode ? use AF/MF toggle ?
Wooow, finally it's there :)
im glad they sorted the flippy floppy screen ..it tilts how FAB..!😎
This is some really impressove focusing!
Uff I want a lot this new Sony beast! Needs to do some photography works and sell my current A7III to achieve that.
Thank you for your insightful review! I just recently got the A7RV along with the A9 III. I plan on using my A7RV for stills, portrait, landscape and maybe some static wildlife photography and my A9 III mainly for fast action, birds in flight photography and sports. It's interesting that you use the Sony 35 GM in your tests. I have that lens and consider it one of my favorites! Prior to acquiring these two bodies I shot with an A7 IV which I loved but as my forays especially into bird photography and landscape photography increased I desired more resolution for landscape and a faster sensor and camera for shooting action. I think with these two choices I'm pretty well set. I also have Sony's 200-600 G lens, Sony's 70-200 F4 G lens and recently acquired the Sony 300 GM F2.8. I'm still looking at my options for wide angle. Prime or Zoom? 🤔. I appreciate your in depth review and tests of the AF. Like you I find the AF much better than my A7 IV and the AF in the A9 III otherworldly! It seems as if Sony continues to improve with each new model release. Who knows what the A1 Mark II will bring? Whenever that occurs.. But in the meantime I'm very happy with my gear. I ended up selling my A7 IV and plan on adding a wide angle to my arsenal soon. I'll check your reviews to see if you have any of Sony's latest. Thanks again!
Best A7rv review on youtube
Just curious..for portraits, do you shoot uncompressed raw, full size? I have had some experiences with moire on my late a7r IV, wonder if it helps to shoot compressed raw instead.
Excellent work
You are lovely ❤, love your uploads. Cool camera
the jpeg output at least reminds me of older Canon DSLR's which is very much a good thing. There's a softness that just feels calming.
How do you like the mew menu ? it is hard to find your way around it don't you think....Is this a production model, can you shoot Raw and process it ?
I think the biggest difference I am noticing is that with the new WB sensor. It seems to protect skin tones even in green environments - this was a long term weakness that Sony has finally addressed.
if that is true than its a real big deal
Could you please let me know length and size of those 8K videos and which card you used? CFExpress Type A is horrendously expensive. I am planning to get Kingston SD Canvas React Plus 256GB UHS-II. I hope it does the job. Please let me know your thoughts.
Great review! (and prettiest smile on youtube ;) )
Superb😍😍
Oh wow there’s a new video interface! All the icons are on the top or bottom, nothing crowding the screen. About time they did this! Not likely to make it to any older camera via update though lol 🤷🏻♂️ that’s Sony.
Do you have any issues with your sony reverting back to jpeg when you select raw photo?
WHat month/season were you filming in? My A7r4 is always over heating here in Brisbane.
Still loving my Sony a7ii
Thanks for the video dear Crush 🥰
informative 15mins on the sony a7r V.
I used Sony A7R2 - R3 - R4 models and now I still have the R4e, but the capture speed is still insufficient when the model walks towards the camera. I was expecting the new camera to be improved in the R5, but I couldn't see the slightest improvement. We are forced to buy a9 or a1 to capture moving photos. Thank you very much for the review.
Brilliant video. Can anyone tell me if the video on the rv is a step up from the video on Fujifilm Xt30? I know in almost every sebse that it is but I'm looking only for training videos in the gym.
15:16 thankfully I haven’t bought the a7iv 😮💨 I’ll be upgrading from my a7ii . So many reasons to upgrade especially the 61 megapixel and 8k to 4K video. Always love your reviews.
I'm building up to making exactly the same switch from the A7ii. Did you get the A7Rv in the end? How are you finding it? The only thing really holding me back is how to deal with storing and editing such large files.
Does it have touch screen autofocus for video ?? Can we focus on the subject by taping on the screen ?
This just makes me want the A9III purely because I don't require 61mp yet the overall improvements is important for me. The skin tones compared to the A7R4 really shocked me as a A7III user. They look much easier to work with.
Love your work Julia.
You can downsize the file size on A7R5 as an option
@@ziqiguo1628 I know. Yet the A9III would have a faster readout speed so less rolling shutter and probably not cropped for 4k 60fps
POWERRRRRRR🎉🎉🎉🎉
Why the side by side comparison with a7r4 shows that images shot by R4 is much sharper?
Wow, 61mp. That is impressive. That is some great stabilization in your video and picture quality. Thanks for sharing.
Impressive until you try and load up a couple thousand photos to your computer and have time to make dinner before they are imported. I have an M1 iMac and 61 megapixels is still a major pain. Never again.
@@michaelbell75 you're probably doing something wrong if your M1 can't import it fast enough lol
@@michaelbell75 you can shoot in a 26mp compressed Raw file.
@@josepuente8852 why would you pay for a 61 megapixel high resolution camera to shoot it at 26 megapixels?
it is only an improvement of the previous one, but it does not surprise me the Sony range. Very good right now I'm testing the Fujifim and new model. Pretty awesome, Featuring a stunning 5th Gen X-Trans CMOS 5 HS sensor and X-Processor 5 processor in a beautifully designed body, photographers and filmmakers can now create at the pace of life and at the speed of their imagination.
This camera will take my pet cat photography to a whole new level. Best floof camera ever!
Julia - how big are the medium raw files - are they near to the A74 in size
Thanks!
Nice 🖤
Nice ❤
Sorry, are all the photos jpegs? Or just the ones you did when using rapid fire shutter.
can it tilt on vertical mode like the XT5?
Very nice
Is this as good as the a7c?
Eevee? Amazing
Can we record 4k 120 in S&Q mode ?!!
Time to find out which lens I need/want, and if they're available in the Netherlands, and if they are within budget. Everything I find so far ends up being 4000 euro, lol. no tnx.
Very sharp! I am a CanonR5 User, but now I think I might switch back to Sony. The color is way more natural and the focus is also way more sharp. Thanks for sharing this!
The colour is tweakable. I don't think you shoot in JPEG. The focus depends on the glass. Do you have good glass? The focus will be good.
Can you compare with canon r5 ?
ISO performance was the only thing bothering me in my R IV and it was the only I hope it’s improved with R V .. like using stacked sensor in such a high MP sensor would make it a lot better, but greedy Sony won’t give that to protect the A1 markets or maybe preparing the A1 II .. they add some new features which is great but not enhancing what’s already average!
Stacked sensors generally perform worse in terms of noise and DR.
@@professionalpotato4764 you’re wrong.
@@Hsukhaybir It's just science btw. Stacked and global shutter sensors almost always has less dynamic range (worse ISO performance)
How would you rate the build quality compared to the A7IV? I love it, but it feels a bit plasticky and the A7RV has a full magnesium body, right?
I know this comment is old but in case you're still wondering. They feel identical. I own both.
@@astromoosie Really? I got the A7RV eventually and I definitely think it feels more "premium" and robust due to the added weight. Also, the LCD screen part feels much more sturdy and less plasticky to me 🙂
I would like multi focus af....say you have several subjects in frame....this would need focus point selection. Say you want focus two subjects in frame at same time instead one a time. Artificial intelligence chip would be involved.
Amazing! I just got an a7iv about a month ago... 🤷♂️
Do you like It? So far??
@@farjadahmad I love it!! However my previous camera was a Canon T7i so it was a MAJOR upgrade and I don't have much to compare it to. With the A7IV the autofocus has been fantastic, it produces very high quality images, and there are many features and customization options I can grow into.
@@BombaclaatGatofish great to hear that.i am aiming for the a7IV too ✌️
Im starting to regret after hearing 8k from a7r5
@@paulchoi8779 I really Wana see a complete video capability review on Sony a7RV..
If it's a complete hybrid monster. It's gonna be huge.
Seems like a test-bed for the new A1
Beautiful YOU & camera
Tell me, how did you record the screen during filming?
Does the Sony A7RV have a 30 min record limit on 1080 or 4k video?
… of cause not, even the new Canon R6 II could shoot endless nowadays.
The highlight of Sony A7R V is AI Processor. All other features are common with A1 and A7 IV.
Luv your 85mm shots better than the 50mm
The lenses Julia used in this video were 35mm and 50mm I did not see an 85mm.
@@wilhelmw3455 she usually uses an 85mm. i can spot the difference. i like her 85mm shots better than her 50mm
Just notice that when you were talking about your cats, you mentioned that it has "PURRRR" fect focus. Hahaha
Which lens did u use for video test with a7r5
I mentioned it in the video - GM 50 and GM 24
Do you find that the color science of this Sony improved due to the more accurate white balance?
I see what you did there. I just got a haircut and thought I had hair on my screen. Hahahaha!
I have a simple question for you Julia, A7IV or A7RV?
@3:53 - did you say "Purr-fect" focus on Evie's iris? hahaha
Everyone would even buy this Camera only for the screen alone 😂, that's some great engineer right there.
Hopefully they use this screen for all their bodies going forward!
8K?
wow how can you get that a7rV so fast...!
Sony sent to her
Take group photos and see the results and about colour science
Why I only have 50 fps 4k ??? How to make 60 fps on it ???
Is it just me or the Sony focus on the eye lashes and not the eye? at 9:44 compared to the Canon.
Wii you bay the a7r5 or keep to use a74..for wedding
Price pls
It's probably just my eyes but it's hard to find major differences between the photos taken by the A7IV and A7rV. As someone who does still photography 95% of the time, it's probably a better decision value for money wise to stick with the A7IV. Exception would be if I did a lot of cropping maybe?
Unless you are doing landscapes or very detailed high fashion or beauty work for high end companies and/or fashion magazines, 61 megapixels is complete overkill. I had the a7RIV and traded it for the a7IV back when I shot Sony, and Im a portrait shooter. Most our photos are going up on social media and being viewed on 5 inch smartphone screens where you will never see a difference between 24 and 61 megapixels.
I own the A7iii myself but from what I've seen of it, I've had no issues cropping in a little bit.
Sometimes I did wish I could crop in more, so thats where the A7iv comes in with its 33MP sensor.
I think 33 megapixels is more than enough, honestly.
More megapixels = larger file sizes, higher end computer needed to edit, higher storage costs, more memory cards needed, etc.
24 megapixels is plenty but 33mp is the sweet spot in my opinion.
I'm gunna upgrade to A7IV as soon as I can.
you do realize you seeing this through RUclips lol. Just think about the a7iv with all the great extra features
@@michaelbell75 I have the same thoughts as Michael here! Since I do portrait, lifestyle and wedding photography 61MP is wayyyy too much for me and just not necessary. So the A7IV is enough. If I did more studio work, fashion, beauty, etc then the higher MP would come in handy instead.
bah...grande delusione.
Sister iphone 14 camera review plzzzz
hows the focusing vs r5 ?
I have the eos R5 and it also have deep learning tech behind it but they dont make so much fuss about it.... The AF of my R5 is outstanding, also has bird cars etc AF
Starting at 14:03 , seems like the A7RIV has better detail than the A7RV. You can see his pores in much more detail.
Yeah the new noise reduction seems to process images more now. You also have the option to just turn it off though and do it in post with proper noise reduction software instead!
Tôi cũng muốn có 1 chiếc máy như bạn !
