I don't know about other states but our state, landlords aren't supposed to enter your room without notice ahead of time. Legality issue. Obviously there could be exceptions to an extent, like if you're living with close friends or relatives. But sadly there are lousy landlords (and even lousy tenants) out there who refuse to change. I also need to comment on the Rules part of the video. I appreciate you bringing this up - some folks in power have way too many rules to the point where it could get excessive, unreasonable. One reason is probably because they were taken advantage of by others in the past, so they have the need to establish many boundaries. Another reason is that they're micromanaging folks where nothing is ever good enough for them. The latter are folks we need to stay far away from. It can be difficult to get along with folks for a long period, even more so when it's your personal space where you live. I'm glad you found a better place, hopefully it stays that way in the upcoming months.
Yes I've rented many rooms in the past and this last place is the only one where the landlord invaded my privacy by coming in my room. In the beginning the landlord would come into my room and would tell me beforehand, but eventually she started coming into my room without telling me. Yes there were so many rules at this last place and it was all written on paper too. I understand there should be rules, but it's a long list of rules and now I know going forward too many rules is a red flag. I prefer a tenant-landlord relationship that's build more on trust rather than having a bunch of rules. Regarding micromanagement, I feel like that did happen as in I always felt like my landlord was always paying attention to my life and she would mention things like "oh I notice you were gone a lot" rather than a more as long as we don't have issues we can live our own life kind of mindset.
I agree with you I would love a whole studio or 1 bedroom apartment to myself, unfortunately it'd cost a lot more where I am. Although I realize I should dream bigger and the goal would be to get my own place one day.
This is just another platitude but it’s true. Be assertive and always be ready to walk away from any situation.
yes
Martin, renting has always been a stressful ordeal for me, it takes time to settle in
The fact of the matter is you are an adult and paying your rent they should not be in your business. Hope you found a better place

I tell myself I would never live any where if the landlord live on the premises. Which is why I prefer apartments such a studio or one bedroom for 1
