You were talking about me and I thank you for the information you are sharing. I am 70 now and I was that kid winning a full scholarship yet failing math (dyscalculia) and being late (time blindness) then 15 years ago, after a life with zero allergies, my brain made the decision that I was now seriously allergic to most everything in a grocery store, all chemicals, fragrances, cosmetics etc which profoundly impacted my life. Ha, and yes, I have ADHD which has been a blessing and a curse. I went back to the gym a year ago and do meditation, what a difference that has made to my brain. Now I’m going to find your book. Whoever didn’t want anyone to watch this is simply ignorant, it is NOT behavioral, those of us with ADHD know it’s a brain thing. We were just waiting for you to give this talk 😊

Disconnected Kids is the first book. Reconnected Kids came next. In my opinion, there's a lot of overlap. Disconnected Kids has more theory and foundational information. If you want to know more about practical improvement strategies, then it's ok (again, in my opinion) to start with Reconnected Kids. Both are written in his voice, so you'll enjoy them if you liked this talk.

Time blindness… I’m always late it seems like. I’ve been criticized and harassed and made fun of and bullied and I’ve felt like there must be something wrong with me and no matter how hard I try I can’t seem to overcome this issue. Thank you for putting a name to it for me. 😮

Who cares what TEDx think.... seriously.... They rejected it because you dared to suggest that 'behaviour' isn't the issue. As a parent....I am so sick to death of being told my child has behavioural issues versus actual real neurological issues. To all other parents out there ....we have been doing the Mellilo Method for one year .,... My son has had enormous gains and it's been life changing for him and the rest of the family.

Take responsabilities, you have not educated your child and your sad life turns around the selfinflicted misery and the misery you have inflicted to your child. Only in America are kids little monsters with no education. Only in America do the parents make them eat highly toxics and highly addicted drugs to have some peace. You are the criminals who keep wanting kind attention. Sorry but, form Europe, no, you are not good parents.

Our son went thru a program called Brain Balance 8 years ago and this is exactly what their philosophy was. We learned so much, and it literally did change his life and ours. It was a long and tedious process, we still had to do the at home exercises for years afterwards, about two or three, but it was absolutely worth it. he was on the autism spectrum before and now is not. He still has dyslexia and dyscalculia. But he had so much more in the beginning and it is truly remarkable to see how far he has come with the grim prognosis He had as a young child. he’s an absolutely incredible 13 year-old young man now. He still does have gut issues at times and does learn much better one on one than in a group. There are still some things that could be resolved. But he started as not being able to hardly communicate remember, express, memorize or understand much of anything as a five-year-old. It’s been absolutely miraculous to see his incredible life grow and change after using these principles. He is totally speaking truth.

This is fascinating. I can no longer count the number of kids (and families) thar I know who struggle with these issues. That said, while I have little doubt that these therapies and methods are effective, I can’t help pounding the drum that there needs to include a nutritional component. Lucky Charms & orange juice for breakfast, fried chicken nuggets or Dorito tacos for lunch, and Fast Food for dinner are also impacting our children’s neurological health & development. Including sound nutrition, time in nature, exercise, limited screen time, adequate sleep and hydration are also parts of this complex recipe for a functional & successful society!

Wonderful presentation. Thank you so much for your research. It explains my issues - diagnosed with ADHD and most likely on the autism spectrum, and a lot of difficulty with interpersonal connections. I am extremely logical, but I am plagued with an overactive immune system and leaky gut syndrome. I have spent a year and thousands of dollars trying to heal my gut and food intolerances with only very minor improvements. I now believe after your talk that the root cause of my digestion issues is an underactive right brain and overactive left brain, which I can trace back to early childhood. I also had a traumatic childhood, which further affected the imbalance of right/left hemispheres to be left/sympathetic dominant at an early age. I would like to pursue your research and learn how I can recover my right brain to bring my body into balance.

Like the vid content and useful information. However, as a late diagnosed adult with ADHD, it is very frustrating the often limited focus on children with ADHD, and or the assumption that only children have it or the definite issue that some think or believe you grow out of it.

I’m also an adult with late diagnosed ADHD; I actually realized something was up (“neurodivergent”) when bringing my son (6 or 7 at the time) in for behavioral problems at school. Much like the kids he mentions, who grow up not knowing what they don’t know, adults might not see a problem if the kid behaves in a way that’s consistent with their own neurodivergent exp. Anyway, when filling out the diagnosis scorecards for my son, I was like “Um Dr this sounds like kiddo, yes, but also, um myself?”
As I’ve become medicated consistently, a lot of doctors over time have told me that diagnosis path happens a LOT with families they see.
All that to say, I agree, but I think the two go hand-in-hand! It’s interesting to me that some adults are learning alongside their children.

I just read the other day that it takes 17 years for medical information to get from the people discovering it to your hometown family doctor. That's definitely matches the kind of experience my family had my whole life. And I know from the business world and that it takes a minimum of 21 mentions to someone of your vision before they even start to think they've seen the vision and could tell you what that vision is. So don't be discouraged! If you do what you can for another 15 years or so, it might start to actually catch on more! 😃😆

At 61 I wonder if I will ever make progress with this. The right brain explanation makes sense and I just happen to be sensitive and empathetic ,oh yea and quite clumsy, I have also used isolation as a coping mechanism and now I’m feeling the effects of that. I also have a hyper developed sense of shame and guilty. Wow…

It's a myth. Neuroscience has shown that both hemispheres of the brain are involved in most cognitive tasks, and they work together rather than operating in isolation. That's why this was rejected!

This short video helped me more than one hundred appointments with neurologists along my life. At least here in Brazil, they just give you anti depressants, and there’s no one that I can take, because all of them cause me super strong side effects, like not sleeping at all, not waking up at all, not being able to move my muscles, or incapacitating migraines, uncontainable diarrhea, fainting, and so on. Thank you for this. I hope this gets to the new secretary of health, Robert Kennedy. They didn’t wanna show your talk because it’s a threat to a lot of people that depend on these problems not to resolve in order for them to keep putting food in their tables (pharma, doctors, therapists, etc.). A simple and effective solution is not good for the financial markets. The “sick industry” needs to sick kids, not healthy kids.

What stops us from connecting with people is often, non-acceptance. As an adult, I have been fired from jobs, even though my work was excellent, I was told, I don't fit in.
Sometimes, no matter how smart you are, no matter how hard you try. The truth is "normal" people won't let you into their world, but see you as less than them, someone who needs to be fixed.
I chose not to be around "normal" people. They can't see beyond their own noses, and judge others by their their own standards. They can't see others strengths but only see them as problems that need to be fixed.
    We talk too much.
    We don't accept people enough.
We need more vocational programs for the tactile doers, not everyone is destined for higher education.

I don’t think it was hidden away by TEDx, it just doesn’t really fit the format of a TED talk. He spends the entire talk on the setup, but never gets to the conclusion. Brain imbalance causes every behavioral issue, therefore what? I’d love to deep dive into one specific example rather than spend the entire talk listing off what each imbalance causes. Still very interesting as a comprehensive list of the neurological imbalance behind each psychiatric issue.

Treating ADHD without enriching the pharmaceutical industry is heretical. Reversing ADHD? Blasphemy! When this was recorded, we were all being told to bow at the altar of Pfizer, J&J, Astra Zeneca, etc. Roll up your sleeves and ignore the young healthy neighbors who died suddenly. How many TED reviewers have conflicts of interest with Big Pharma? Prove it is zero, and I'll recant.

These problems seem to be n the increase.
As a 63 year old (very right-brained!) I look back on my own childhood and realise that one of the biggest differences in the environment children are growing up in now .is that they have very little time to themselves. I wonder whether this was the space that allowed us to negotiate the world on our own terms. Children walked to school on their own, they played with different age groups in un-surveyed groups, they had time to observe non-verbally and to dream. This even happened in the classroom - where children were not expected to relate directly with the teacher as they are now - rather they were allowed a world of their own. Has anyone thought that this constant demand for children to be "engaged" might in itself represent an over-load for the creative brain.

The chart needs to be read not
      left ---> right, but
      literally
Top half (above line break) to
      Bottom half (below line break)
I initially did same as you
Plus to rewind what's being stated -
He's talking about the cellular formulating of the brain - beginning from the heart of the brain stem - tip, I believe (top down) and cellularly circling in a pattern on up (bottom up) as he demonstrates that 'shaping' of the brain as it fills out around on both hemisphere sides. Hope that helps a little. Good catch though for most people naturally read that chart from left to right 👍

As the brain is a prediction engine rather than fight/flight, can we map this in here too?

Also, we could map this to Constructed Development Theory by Stevens (2020) to measure the differences in their awareness of their construction of self. I can expand on this if you want.

Focus on the attachment. Spend twenty minutes a day present with the child, no screens, doing something the kid likes to do like blocks or a toy or activity or game, and do not do the parenting "correcting" during these twenty minutes. It is about presence with their being, correction here will only undermine the point.
It will help with the behavior.

Wonderful talk! The mind is inherently embodied. We are engaged in an ongoing process of converting our sensory motor experiences into a formal structure, into a framework that can orient and guide our thinking and reasoning. Sensory motor inference is cognitive inference. We are projecting from the sensory motor domain to the cognitive domain and the inferential capacities of the sensory motor system are baked into the process. Imagine being in a situation where all you have to orient and guide your thinking and reasoning is the inferential capacities of your primitive reflexes. Imagine that due to a lack of vertical integration the conduit through which that information must pass doesn't have the capacity to represent the information in a one to one correspondence. You would have to group together certain input patterns as you transfer information from the source domain to the target domain. Some examples of this grouping together of input patterns would be categories, stereotypes and generalizations. If the target domain doesn't have the capacity to reconstitute the information to the level of one to one correspondence then you are stuck with your categories, stereotypes and generalizations to orient and guide your thinking and reasoning. Neural beings initially categorize, stereotype and generalize, it's a consequence of our neural architecture. However the extent to which we do this is a reflection of the developmental process. A disability is simply an ability that you didn't acquire at a certain stage of development. At each stage of development we acquire new abilities. The application of each ability in the order that they were acquired constitutes the order of operations for an embodied protocol that is our birthright. This embodied protocol must be in alignment with evolution which is phylogenically ordered, development which is ontogenetically sequenced and learning which is functionally progressive. Why? To answer that question we first answer this question. What is the connection between evolution, development and learning? All three phenomena are iterations of the same process expressed over different time frames. An iterative process that is missing step will always be incomplete and tend to result in errors that will be repeated in subsequent iterations. I hope I've added something to the discussion. Have a beautiful day everyone!

I enjoyed your video and your information is thought producing and very interesting. I have just purchased your books and am looking forward to reading them and hopefully gaining insight and strategies to help children and teens with neurodivergence. One observation regarding your TED-Talk comments and censorship. I don’t see it as censorship. Your ideas are not being stifled. TED-Talks are not for outside the mainstream ideas that are not established. So I get why they won’t show your video. You are published and assume you’re getting funding for your research so, not sure why it’s censorship.

To me, Dr. Gabor Matte's explanation of his ADD and his son's ADD is more believable and makes better sense! He doesn't believe that ADD is inborn or that it is a disease, but is caused by the environment in early childhood development, likely before the age 4 or 5.

The concept of left-brain versus right-brain dominance - where the left hemisphere is logical and analytical while the right hemisphere is creative and emotional - is a significant oversimplification and largely a myth. Neuroscience has shown that both hemispheres of the brain are involved in most cognitive tasks, and they work together rather than operating in isolation. That's why this was rejected!

@dianatrott5359 They don't psychoanalyze either. Presumably they just accept everybody's quirks without putting labels on them. They can probably give a behaviourly difficult child some consequences that will stick in their memory more than the pointless remonstrance which is the only technique "allowed" in modern society, apart from medication and therapy.
