    Man with most working class Chinese immigrants in NYC sharing apartments with a whole family in each room one guy went nuts over the noise one day and hacked his roommate's two young kids to death (kids love to scream and run around of course)...so sad; he's a father himself and now his nine year-old is in an orphanage -- the victims' father works out of state halfway across the country as a restaurant cook...what a mess, all due to the psychological pressures of noise pollution!! Hell is truly other people -- and their damned mutts LOL

  • @davidchou1675
    @davidchou1675 2 дня назад

    In NYC you can just go to the homeless shelter -- but you will have at least one roommate and you can't choose and unfortunately so many of these guys like to do drugs and don't even wash! But if you're lucky it could be a great way to save if you have a decent job....

    If you buy a cheap Futon and a coffee table you will be set. The Futon folds into a bed to sleep. Then it folds into a couch sp you can eat over the coffee table. I bought the coffee table at a thrift store for $12. The Futon was $200 at a big lots discount store. I just throw the Futons in the dumpster when I move out. No one needs a tv. I watched television and movies on my phone.

    Believe me, you don’t need that much furniture. A mattress, a table and a chair to start. I lived in a studio apartment for 6 years. I had sofa, bed, table, chairs, closet, bureau, cooking stuff, food, clothes, vacuum, etc. TOO MUCH STUFF. 😂

    • @hiitsmartin
      @hiitsmartin 2 дня назад

      Yea, that would be too much stuff for me. Although I can't tell everyone to have as little stuff as me since everyone has different needs. I would say people need to be mindful of what they really need and stop buying more things just because.

  • @sct4040

    A studio apartment in Queens, NYC is $1450/month + utilities + food. You do have complete privacy.

    • @hiitsmartin
      @hiitsmartin 2 дня назад

      Being in New York I would assume it would be a small studio and the walls would be paper thin so you'd be able to hear your neighbors and vice versa. Also I assume parking would be extra if they do offer a parking space.

      lol no I'm paying $1,200 a month all included *but* it was *extremely extremely super-extremely lucky* -- after months of frustration I simply made a Craigslist post in utter desperation and incredibly enough, someone actually responded in a few days with an offer well within my budget!! Unfortunately that was just pure luck and the entire Tri-State Area is fxxxed when it comes to rent; in fact, nowhere in the whole country can you normally expect to pay rent on typical unskilled labor wages....

      That's another thing, you can meet new people when you rent a room in someone's house or condo. It can be a really positive experience to rent a room from a really good family or good people in general. Personally I don't stay connected with former landlord and other tenants. It was more of a business relationship at the rooms I rented.

    Good luck on your search. My place is a duplex. While there’s other folks here I only hear them sparingly. I dunno if that means I’m the loud neighbor 🤔 I wouldn’t know since no one has ever came to me and said anything? Do you think ur neighbor is the kind that would take offense to maybe having certain times for “quiet hrs” using headphones? Maybe earplugs? Whatever way things go I hope you’re soon in a place that feels like home. Good luck!

    • @hiitsmartin
      @hiitsmartin 7 дней назад

      Well, even if they use headphones it won't fix the issue since they talk pretty loud at times. So regarding the noise issue, it's not something that can be reasonably fixed, so I'd have to move out and find a better place.

    • @davidchou1675

    But you also have studio basement or Apt which may be just like a room but you have your own entrance. Yes some apts have short lease but renting is hard these days anyway you take it

    • @hiitsmartin
      @hiitsmartin 7 дней назад

      Technically it's not a studio or apartment unless the room or space has a kitchen. But for me, I don't need a kitchen with a stove, so a room with a private entrance and private bath (not shared with others) will more than suffice for me. Or even better would be something like a guest house where some houses or property has a separate detached living space.

      @hiitsmartin 8 дней назад

    • @le_th_
      @le_th_ 8 дней назад

      @LeadFurlong Where I live, a 2 bedroom costs around $7K-10K per month, $30 for high speed internet, $150-200/month for electricity. To move in would cost $21K-$30K to get the keys, as that 1st months rent, last month's rent, and the equivalent to 1 months rent as the deposit. There is no guarantee that after spending all the money, plus the few thousand dollars it costs to move your belongings, the people living above you, on either side of you, or underneath you will make your quality of life liveable.

    I forgot about that -- I got scammed many years ago when looking for a rental. I paid to have the "exclusive" privilege of seeing the place. When I got there, the senior couple told me that I was not the first to be sent there...and they were victims too.

    • @hiitsmartin
      @hiitsmartin 15 дней назад

      Oh yes this is something that's common, scammers will find a random house, apartment, condo, etc and claim it's their place. Then ask you for a deposit to view the place. When in reality, they don't own the place, all the want is your $. The actual owner of that property don't even know scammers are using their address.

  • @chaisepomme4070
    @chaisepomme4070 15 дней назад

    Keep going, Martin and continue to be picky despite the false leads and scammers. And I agree that for just renting a room, you shouldn’t have to sign a long term lease. I think that the person who asked you for your last name wanted to check out your ethnicity.

    • @hiitsmartin
      @hiitsmartin 15 дней назад

      Yes, exactly I feel room rental are less formal and generally more temporary than a whole house, apartment or even a guesthouse. You may be right as to why that person asked for my last name, but it felt weird. I would prefer if someone wanted to know my ethnicity, for them to simply ask straight up and explain they would prefer certain ethnicity. At the end of the day, landlords want to look out for themselves to have the right tenant as much as the tenant want the right landlord. So it's better to be transparent about potiential issues beforehand even if it means to have an uncomfortable conversation.

    Martin I said this before and I don’t know your financial situation but can you get like a small self contained studio apt where you are by yourself because honestly once you live with land lord or has to share its very hard as there is always something. But a studio apt or studio flat with its own entrance could work. I know I just could not share space with a land lord or someone. Just saying maybe look at these options

    Keep revising and adding to your list of “must haves” and “nice to haves” for your new place. Definitely, a place that was private and quiet with your own bath and the use of a full size shared refrigerator or a smaller fridge that only you would use would be good. Keep looking and asking questions. There must be decent places out there. Recently a renter I know complained that her place got a bug infestation because the other tenant kept his place untidy and attracted bugs which then infiltrated her suite and upstairs to the landlord, so ask whether the landlord ever had or has a bug problem. It would be nice if the new place only had room for one renter.

    • @hiitsmartin
      @hiitsmartin 24 дня назад

      Yes, I feel with each place I'm finding out more things and being able to learn so the next place I'll know to look for these things. At my old place refrigerator space wasn't an issue since it was a full size shared fridge and the people living there didn't have a lot of stuff in the fridge. As weird as it sounds, maybe for my next place I should ask if I can open the fridge just to get a good idea of refrigerator space. So I will keep looking for a new place and yes I need to ask more questions and not hold back. It's either I can find out potential issues now before I move in or find out after I move in.
