- Trains and Sonic the Hedgehog in one video? While many may focus on the obscure Sonic games, cut content, or character personalities, I've been one to notice the trains featured throughout the games. As an avid Sonic fan myself, along with being a railfan, I've sought to take a look at all (assuming I didn't miss any major ones!) of the trains seen throughout the games thus far! So lets take at look a look at the trains of Sonic the Hedgehog!
Music Used:
Sonic 3D Blast OST (Sega Saturn) - Green Grove Zone Act 2
Sonic Adventure OST - The Dreamy Stage (Casinopolis)
Sonic Adventure 2 OST - That's the Way I Like It (Metal Harbor)
Sonic Riders Zero Gravity OST - Blast Town [80's Boulevard and 90's Boulevard]
Sonic 06 OST - Wave Ocean (The Water's Edge)
Sonic Generations OST - City Escape Modern (Instrumental)
Sonic Mania OST - Hydrocity Zone Act 2
Sonic Unleashed OST - Apotos (Night)

Anybody else find it ironic that the only two trains owned by Eggman, who prides himself in being a technological genius and you'd assume would prefer modern inventions, are also the only two steam engines in the entire Sonic Franchise?
S1 looks pretty epic though
Don’t you diss our precious steam locos. Us railfans need to do a lot of work and campaigning and money spending for them to still exist.
They could be using nuclear fission or fusion to boil water instead of combustion?
in my opinion, steam engines are more complex if you were to make them
Eggman has a new train
“The Trains of the Crew 2”. One train in the game resembles a GE Genesis locomotive with Amtrak superliner style cars
Thicc Hicks G E N I S I S
TS2020 has the Amtrak superliners looking real good.
The trains of Forza
OMG YES I HAVE THAT GAME
The trains of Super Mario or kirby
At 6:18 This train is definetly based upon trains from the RhB (Rhätische Bahn) in switzerland. The paintscheme fits theres, a logo at the front, the indented doors and you can see that it is a motorcar pulling coaches. lightly different colors and non indented doors on the next car coming up, a practice common on the RhB. So it seems to be a mix of RhB 501 and the KiHa 150. The coach itself looks quite like an RhB Type IV car.
Thanks for pointing that out. I would have said it
Ich het fast sGliiche gseit
I’m still waiting for, “trains in Trainz Simulator.”
lmaoooo
Called it
There too obvious because there class name is in there selection bar so he won't do it
Too much trains
The weirdest of all train simulators the there is one worst even than that I just can't remember the name of it at the moment.
The best are
Train Simulator 2020
TSW 2020
World of Subways 4
World of Subways 1
openBVE
That red railcar in sonic 06 resembles more one of the RHB trains, except the lack of pantograph
RHB ABe 4/4 III to be exact. Oh! And has second pair of doors.
As a mega sonic fan, and a huge train enthusiast. This vid was just awesome!!!
Indeed!
I remember riding the San Francisco Cable Car Trolleys as a kid. Great video of trains in the Sonic The Hedgehog games.
Any chance we can get a video on the trains of the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise?
Yes I guess
Gta 5 train is a gp38
Dear Amtrakguy365.
The Shanghai maglev and the German Transrapid are the same trains. The ones in Shanghai were built by siemens/Thyssen Krupp and are the only German transrapids that actually went into commercial service. The image that you showed for the German Transrapid seems to be the Transrapid 09 which was the last Transrapid ever tested before the Emsland test facility closed down in 2011. This is just for you info.
Have a great day!
This is suprsing, I didn't realise how many there were
Actually that red tram engine looks like a San Mortiz railway locomotive
I think that the first one is more similar to the Reading Blue Liners, or some of the old interburbans.
Also, the maglevs are TR08s, and they use Electromagnets, basically just connecting and disconnecting a million times a second.
My two favorite things. Trains, and the Sonic franchise
same
I never knew I needed a video exploring the trains of Sonic the Hedgehog, but here we are. Excellent video. That being said, you forgot the Sunset Park train from Sonic Triple Trouble.
You should do “trains of Mario” next
The trains in mega man
Trains of mario: freaking submarine roller coaster train from mario kart ate
(The grammar is bad just for the joke.)
They have trains?
Mario Isn't real
In the sonic universe, he is real, they freaking met.
A crossover I didn't know I needed until today. Thanks.
Just a quick note:
The first train's might also be partially based on the 6000 Series of Nankai Railway (a Japanese major private serving southern Osaka), the livery is practically identical, and the train in the sonic game has definitely a stainless steel bodyshell.
Also, the red train at 6:20 is based on the Swiss RhB ABe4/4 (used on the St.Moritz to Tirano section of the Bernina Express line), rather than JR Hokkaido's KiHa 150.
No mention of the NS "Sonic Bonnet". Surprising.
An in-depth analysis of trains in the Sonic series is something I didn't know I needed! Great video! 😊
You're a Sonic fan and a railfan, which is the same with me. You earned one like from me. 😁👍
In my opinion, much of the music in Sonic The Hedgehog franchinse (especially the instrumental music) is so fitting for trains. It really does go well with railroading in my honest opinion. I have felt that way since I became a Sonic fan once again in the end of 2012. This summer I took a long Amtrak journey and I was listening to a bunch of Sonic music form all types of games and even fan-made games. Most of the music from Sonic Mania really sounds good with railroading. Even some remixes sound good; namely the Sonic Tornado Defense Act 2 by Hadron Music.
Hell yeah a video of the trains in sonic the hedgehog, i could have lived my life not seeing this but I did.
One thing you forgot about was the armored trains from rail canyon zone in Sonic Heroes. However, those looked very ambiguous and don't seem to resemble any real designs, and Sonic Heroes also tends to be overlooked/ignored by lots of people because it wasn't notable or one of the best sonic games out there.
Great work AmtrakGuy, enjoying this playlist.
Excellent research! I've been a fan of trains for awhile and everything you said was spot on
I love this series! I definitely need more videogame train explanations in my life!
great work as always!
The best channel for information for video game trains.
The train at 6:20 is clearly based on the Swiss RhB ABe 4/4 III. It's paint scheme, buffer (yes singular) and lights are the same. But it's windows are often too tall, it isn't electric and it has one extra section.
I hope you make more of these The Trains of videos they are really interesting.
Wow this was very interesting because I'm an avid Rail and Sonic Fan as well and this hits ALL the nails in🤣😂
That Sonic Japanese Diesel Train Design Was Like The First Indonesian Pure Diesel Rail Car Called "Kuda Putih" Or White Horse
Oh wow yeah, it does look more like the Kuda Putih!
Eh elu 😂
Lol the chimes maglev was build by the German company
6:20 that looks like bernina railway abe4/4 3 electric railcar built in 1988 to 1990 by ASEA
but cars irl have single folding doors on sides instead of 2 sliding doors and and still can be seen even to this day
Yes exactly!
Love the video!
i love sonic and i love learning. thanks for this! :-)
Crazy video!
1:46 additionally the paint scheme on the train looks similar to the Amtrak phase 4
im gonna love this video
Amtrakguy uploaded!! Everyone drop everything and run to your Chromebook! Love your vids btw
Didn’t expect this one
Riveting, please do continue this excellent series.
"Trains are co- *drowns*"
-Miles "Tails" Prower
The only train from the Sonics series that I can think of that you missed is a little known one from the game Sonic Shuffle, one of the boards is called "Riot Train" where the entire game board takes place on the top of a steam locomotive and passenger train.
The train at 6:28 is NOT a KIHA 150. It is a nearly identical build to the ABe 4/4 from The Bernina Railway in Switzerland.
Still the Soleana DMU carriage looks more like KIHA 150
Out of ABe 4/4 simularities are just emblem and red color
It should be a made for game train or a made for game Metro
No it is not it is based off a f****** Los Angeles Metro train
5:22 the paint style of the orange locomotive looks like bnsf
Ah yes youtube algorithm a video about trains of Sonic games is exactly what my ADHD needed at 1am.
This might be the greatest crossover ever
Didnt see this coming but this is nice
Now we need
Trains of Subway Surfers
Nice vid
I'm a Sonic fan and a Railfan too.
Someone may have said it but the paint scheme for the JNR KIHA 07 used in Sonic looks to be based on Amtrak’s Phase IV (4) scheme first used in 1993.
Trains from Red Dead Redemption. Let's get back into the early days of steam and, in the case of RDRII, with some of the better renditions of 19th century railroading put to gaming.
You have gone off the rails crazy
1: This is perfect seeing I never really care about the lore of Sonic but more about the Locomotives. 2: Though these engines don’t really have bases for their designs, I would love it if you took a look at the Robotnik Express in The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and.. The Robotnik Express in Sonic Mania.
Cool my dude
There's one train that I recall him not mentioning it was the train from sonic heros. The stage was called rail canyon
Neat video and series, but you’ve overlooked a fair number of Sonic locomotives and railroads (at least those that seem to have some real-world inspiration):
Sunset Park Zone’s boss, The Marve-Shupopolous-Gou, from Sonic Triple Trouble
Riot Train from Sonic Shuffle
Bullet Station from Sonic Heroes
Metropolis Speedway from Sonic Free Riders
I did not expect this this very shocking
Finally RUclips recommendations are working
4:54 looks more like the Disney Monorail.
The last time I was on time, this video was not out
Hello cool video
Awesome
I’ll say this video is very interesting seeing the bases for these trains which originally where just random train that the devs I think didn’t even know where real or maybe they did but can you do the trains of Super Mario games?
Speaking of which in sonic forces a freight train can be seen in the level where your avatar gose to help the resistance to get in a space ship to rescue Sonic from the death egg.
*insert Sonic and Mario gif here*
This is interesting not gonna lie
Amy: Sonic, would you like a train ride? The ones not made by Dr. Eggman.
Nice! Can we see a video about the trains of Super Mario next?
If they were to ever feature trains in Sonic again, the Mallard NEEDS to make a cameo. The fastest thing alive meets the fastest steam train alive!
I agree
Imagine if it was silver like Spencer
I would add the Nankai 50000 Series. If Sonic collided with a Dreyfuss Hudson, this train would be the result!
I do have a favorite Electric unit here is SFC that I can see from time to time. And without going to Blackpool to see haha. The ever so cute Boat Tram. The cutest little tram with an adorable toot horn instead of a bland bell. Such a little cutie it is.
What about the Trains of Super Mario? They've had quite a few trains in the Mario games over the years.
Gonna need that update for Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog
It must have taken a long time to not only find the trains in game, but then research their real life counterparts! Also, the SD40-2W locomotive in that game slightly resembles a GP60M just because of its BNSF paint.
That SD40-2W looking thing has quite the QNSL style livery ngl. The one following it has some swiss design imo
the train from 6:19 seems to be based in the ABe 4/4 from the Rhaetian Railways from Switzerland
Always thought that the 2-car set railcar in SA1 was more of Eastern European design, but turns out it's Japanese (KiHa 07)
Nice
The horn in sonic riders was used by Canadian national 6520 4:38
Oml if you do trains in Pokémon that would be absolutely amazing
“Peep! Peep!” “Hullo!” said Thomas.
The blue hedgehog didn’t answer. He simply went fast. A bit too fast.
These drinks should be added to Gmod as props
i know the Sonic Heroes trains are EXTREMELY fantastical but I'm surprised they weren't mentioned in here!
*I was not expecting that. But I was expecting to not expect something so that doesn't count*
A CSX locomotive in the YN2 paint scheme appears in the second movie, but it is destoryed instantly.
Lol cool!
6:50 Amtrak Guy 365 "but it does take some inspiration from the Pennsylvania Railroad's S1" Me and the New York Central's Streamlined J3a for the 20th Centary Limited Smoke Box.
6:14 I see a resemblance to the EMD G16 export locomotive.
6:20 I believe this train is more based on the Swiss Furka-Oberalp number 41.
You should do a "trains of Super Mario" and "Trains of Wii Party"
Would you consider doing a video about the functional difference between locomotive and freight wheels?
You need to update this video because the recent Sonic game focuses on the Sonic characters in a train.
trains of Star Wars next, theres a lot of good stuff in that realm
One other interesting thing about the Soleana Express is that its livery is similar to that used by the RhB.
Radical Train from Sonic Next Gen (2006) is actually a really cool and fun level!
0:47 the livery of the train resembles the livery used by Nankai Railway, a Private railway in the Kansai area
The railcars in the director’s cut closely resemble Nankai 6000 series trains
My favorite train is the train from Sonic 06 we need more trains in The Sonic Series and we need Shadow Sonic Silver Tails Amy Knuckles Cream Cheese and the others going on a train together and we need more trains in Videogames like Sonic Spyro Reignited Trilogy Spyro Series Rayman and others.
That pumpkin hill train is a Thomas reference
Change my mind
In Sonic X there is the 500新幹線 in a episode taken place in Japan and during a episode when tails Amy and Chris had taken a train. The train is a two car and the trip to the picnic reminds me and location of the Swiss alps
