You need to buy a surron ultra bee + this kit? new motor and controller and battery? thats expensive. they should release a version with this kit installed.
The bike needs to come stock with this setup on it. Maybe for a little more money. I dont see why someone would choose this aftermarket setup over other options already available.
@@MotoMotives it's a good bike and good price as is. But it could be better. Tuckers right you really only need 15 to 18kw for trails. Would be nice if they could come stock woth that at least. All it would need is a better controller the stock motor and battery can do 18kw
Because of form + Function. You get to use OEM parts and keep the bike stock. The aftermarket stuff has plenty of drawbacks. It's not the most reliable. I already fried two kits on the motocross track.
Details on the Surron Racing kit keep changing for the worse, in my opinion. Originally they said it was a larger battery and different controller (and maybe motor). Tucker clarified it is only the Storm motor and controller; not battery. Bummer that it does NOT come with battery, but glad they are at least thinking about it. I would be interested if they offered it as a factory option rather than kit as I don't want to pay for a stock Ultra only to shelve the stock motor, controller and battery. If this was made available along with larger battery as factory options, I'd be interested. Or only a larger battery as an option direct from Surron on the original purchase. The stock battery size, stock suspension and 19/19 wheels are what has kept me from ordering an Ultra; not the power output, which is fine for my use (tight, gnarly single track or slow family rides on mountain forest service roads). There are aftermarket options for larger battery, higher tier suspension and 21/18 wheel sets, but that adds about $7,000 - $8,000 in aftermarket items and is replacing the stock items that I don't want and don't want to pay for. Hoping Surron is taking notes of what other companies are starting to do by offering two or more battery sizes as options, high end suspension as an options, and 21/18 as either standard or as an option, direct from the factory. I don't really want or need more power than stock Ultra for how I use my electric dirtbikes, but I would pay for factory options like larger battery, top tier suspension and 21/18 since those options would surely be more economical than paying for stock version of each then replacing with aftermarket. I would think Surron could option a $6,500 Ultra with these three items for an MSRP of around $10,000, which would be substantially less than the $13,000 - $14,500 it would be using aftermarket parts that I priced.
@jasper_of_puppets Regarding the Dust Moto, I'm hopeful! But they need to get an optional battery size up to 5.5 to 6.5kWh to give needed trail riding range with some buffer. Current planned version is still a ways out from first run Then, hopefully, the options will come as they shake out the first iteration.
@@MrChadx1 Yeah, an optional long-range battery would be great to have with the Dust Moto. I'm primarily going to be using mine for the track, but for those exploration days out on the trail, 5+ kwh would be super nice.
@jihan93213 The Varg is a great solution for those that want a fullsize bike for fullsize things, but for the extra seat height and weight (80lbs more than an Ultra), you are not really getting any more range, particularly if Surron puts in a larger battery from the factory. For slow, gnarly mountain single track, a midsize bike is more fun and easier to ride than a heavy and tall fullsize bike.
For supermoto this would be great that level of power would be great on the track. Offroad on the trails on my Light Bee I ride 10kw and 15kw. Supermoto I race 22kw to 30kw. If it's cheaper than any of the aftermarket motor/controller I think it'd be a great upgrade. I got to ride a Varg recently and the throttle ramp up is very nice even with a lot of power it very controllable a lower throttle inputs. Hopefully they can tune similarly.
Great job on the video! Thanks for making it. They likely will release this entire bike (or a street-legal variant) at some point. Here in Southern Nevada there is a huge market for people that just want to yoink off the highway whenever it's convenient to take a dirt trail instead. I've even seen videos from a guy locally who welded a frame extension on his Light Bee and ran two full-sized stock batteries in parallel. I know the folks at Surron for sure have to have ideas for an adventure bike floating around. Let's see 'em!
I run 16.5kw on my ultra with an x9000 controller and honestly that is more than enough power on nearly all the single track I ride! The only place I'd ever need more is if i'm trying to huck a 50ft jump! then I like to be able to say "well I would jump that if i had enough power"! hah I think one of the best things with that controller though honestly is the throttle adjustment cause I cant imagine what 21kw feels like hitting like the stock controller and throttle deliver the power. Im glad they are bringing the heat though with more power!
Would love to see some side by side comparisons with a stock bike vs other available controller motor upgrades. I agree with you on the power delivery for woods riding needs to be adjustable, whiskey throttle in the woods when trying to clear technical obstacles is not cool. Downside of not having a clutch. F3 throttle setting on the Ultra Bee is useless and will only get you hurt, especially if you are running a larger than stock sprocket.
I’m with you with controlling the “ramp up” on the throttle. racing this bike off-road gives me arm pump with a stock power plant due to the early throttle sensitivity (even with sensitivity at 1). I tried E, not enough punch for my 200lb body (fine for my 120lb daughter). There are times when more than 14kw would be wanted for sure. If we could tune that throttle sensitivity and still get 21kw when we want it, that would be amazing. Not sure if the TORP or 9000 controller can do that.
Torp can definitely do that. I have mine tuned at 18kW in daily and it's mellow on the bottom. You can tune the throttle curve, sensitivity, motor amps, battery amps and phase amps.
@@cjacobs0404 I'm using an aftermarket battery, but I'm pretty sure it has all the same tunable settings with the stock battery, just maybe less kW. Super happy with the controller though, the app is great
Original Motor costs about 750 USD. Upgrade controller about 1000-1200. I estimate the whole upgrade for about 2000 Bucks/Euros. That’s a fair and competitive condition.
As much as I want an ebike for local urban riding these prices make it difficult to justify. I'm trail riding a 2001 CR250 that has 46HP, weighs 212lbs is good for 40mi + of semi-hard enduro and cost me $3500. Not to mention it has quality Honda components, aluminum frame, Showa forks and proper geometry that's been race tested and engineered for 50+ years, oh and it has a clutch. Simple single cylinder easy low cost to maintain. just noisy :)
Nice. Ok with upgrades, suspension, tire/wheels, motor and controller the whole sha-bang what are we talking money wise to get her there? Mx is the function. Thanks
Well over $10k I'm sure. Probably around $12-14k if you're doing a new fork/ shock and other parts like chain, sprockets, bars, grips, footpegs, etc. I've done the math since I considered the same. But ended up going with a YZ250X for now due to cost.
Charged cycle works did a build similar to what you listed with Sirris suspension, ebox controller/motor and bigger battery as well and it was about $20,000usd, not including tax or shipping.
@@AmpedUpMoto $14,600 total including selling the replaced stock parts for $2500. Bike $6500. Battery $3,800. Suspension $3k. Controller $1500. Motor $1500. Wheels/tires $800. Selling stock battery -$1500, controller -$500 & motor -$500. Tons of small things you could do too like bars and pegs, but I don't count that since most people do that to any bike they have.
