In the Fab rats video didn't really get an idea of how far it bent the steering linkage. You guys are nutballs for going that far with it. There is a ring that is supposed to bolt on to reinforce the flex plate. It is the same design as on 1980's Ford Escort automatic transmissions. It's hard to believe a little ring can prevent the plate from shearing out.
23:23 when you upsize the tires, you have to upsize all the components that are related to that too. In your case, remember that bit that adjusted the speedo? This unit was already running on reserve. So you didn't upsize "a little" you upsized a lot. Like half a foot a lot. You'll 100% need to beef up the entire steering package on this if you want it to work without being a nightmare and a parts chewer (so many people get this wrong with these machines - and others, not through their fault, but because it's not a common topic, and in particular, because h-vees are not civie machines, so not much proper data online).
I don't think these machines were meant to run all day at highway speeds either. Probably shouldn't have pushed it more than 55mph for long distances like that. Maybe why it overheated so often.
@@izzyryder4969 They'll do it obviously, but they don't like it. Just like when they were towing and everything, they effectively force it to do stuff it isn't intended to do with no knowledge of how to at least mitigate it properly (They needed a driver in the towed vehicle to provide steering and brake, and they refused to do that until they destroyed the fucking tow bar even after a million signs saying as such, on top of way overspeeding it) and put already questionable vehicles into much worse shape than they already were. It's kinda fun to watch, but also pretty frustrating as a result

I know you're already thinking "I need more shop space and a heavy duty twinpost" . If you build a big shop, alot of windows and a dark colored wall for the winter sun to shine in on. But doesn't get summer sun because it's shaded by the roof. Have windows in the highest points that open to let the hot air out. Have air cooling tubes in the ground so the hot air exiting the top draws cool air in through the aluminum tubes deep in the ground. Passive cooling and heating. A giant greenhouse over your house is a good way to save energy to. I see you love making your place like a huge technological conversation piece. Solar heat batteries are thick stone or concrete that simply sit there and collect free heat from the sun. A stove inside a cylindrical column that goes almost to the ceiling could draw the cold air on the floor through ducting and heat it without a fan. Just convection.

@@kadenmalone1027 Was partly why i commented, dunno where they linked up apart from he has a nearby shop, but the love the guy brings just brightens my whole week, i really hope he sticks round.
He is clearly uber-stoked he gets to not only play with machines and film it, but also afford to eat XD an' its infectious as hell, makes me wanna get in the shop
The GHPC drama magnet is tuned for high performance once again. Imagine that. I luv that no matter what life throws on you. You guys dig out and carry on!!
Yeah if it beats or stumps Ethan then you're in very serious trouble lol. I don't think there's much of anything that will stop him if he has his mind set on something.
Ethan’s editing of this video is premium. From the music to everything else probably one of your better videos. Love it!! Thank u so much!!
I love this channel more than anything on RUclips. This looks like the beginning of the most difficult but most rewarding journey ever. I love it and enjoy watching every single minute of you guys rocking this world!!!
I loved the trio, one got cicked out for some reason. I dont feel comfortable.
That shot of you guys, the landscape and clouds at 24:30 is what life's about!
I love it. I kina still think that there is a certain off road viper that should have a cameo next to it....
I was thinking the same thing!
The people, story, camerawork and music. Perfect. Just perfect. Great job guys and big respect to Edwin for the edit.
This is exceptionally well made, from the storytelling to the footage and music - Some of the best content currently on RUclips!
Heck yeah man thank you!
One of my faves in a long time, finally some guys who know how to fix stuff and aren’t afraid to get dirty. It’s all part of the fun!
Padrick & Clinton 😎 > the usuals!
Beautiful break spot to break down. Could even go for a swim, and relax. Shocking how well it performed in the sand. In the Fab rats video didn't really get an idea of how far it bent the steering linkage.
You guys are nutballs for going that far with it.
At least with a supercharged LS, a replacement 4l80 will hold up to whatever you throw at it.
Plenty of them with a simple shift kit survive over 700hp trans brake launches. Cant wait to see what happens next
Mounting a flex plate backward will also make it crack apart like that. So if the one you first removed was backward and you mounted the next one the same way.
218 Auto needs a RUclips channel so we can all subscribe to them.
Thanks! Maybe one day well get a solid flow of content. For now, we are just trying to get some cars fixed.
@@218Auto And the journey begins!
@@218AutoThat's really all you need to start, people can learn from you if you know what you're doing. Give it a try, nothing to lose.
This is the most accurate Hummv video I’ve ever seen. The only vehicle that can break while doing nothing but somehow still gets you there-ish.
Will was such a character he will be missed
I couldn't agree more! He was meant to be a GHPC member. I'm sad he had to leave.
He was a key part to the team, his personality alone was crucial comedic part of the trio
Will wasn't sketchy enough for this Humvee.
@@RobertOBrien-jk2bz yeah but that's part of his corky idiotic sarcastic chaos he adds to the group. Not a damn thing he ever did was actually Premium and you could obviously walk anywhere the mini truck went. It's the fact he would find a way somehow no matter if it was toques as a seat cushion or having to redo the same thing 5 times tell he finally gets it the guy was entertaining
Will left the channel?
Ethans enthusiasm and positive mindset is so damn infectious. Also, loved to hear the problem solving on the belt failure
you know...most of us dont recognize is the production time/effort it takes to produce a video.
Oh wow!
.....
...So?
We don't "notice" it because we just don't think about it. It's not our problem, or our business to care.
I'll bet you it takes a ton of time/effort to film an Adam Sandler Netflix movie too. You know why I didn't "notice" that before? Because I never sat down and asked myself, "I wonder how much time and effort it takes to film an Adam Sandler Netflix movie?" If I had, would've answered: A lot.
I'll bet if you asked anyone this question about the effort involved in making these vidya's, I'm quite certain they'd also answer: "a lot." ...And in a tone that screams "I'm bored with you pest, be gone."
I mean wow, that person was incredibly rude, right? They aren't wrong though... To call you a pest... with their tone of voice......... Yep....
Anyway. Totally joking. I have no negative feelings toward you, in fact I'm the one being a pest at this point. I'm just havin' some fun, cruisin' some comments, bein' a pest. While I wait for... NONE YA BUSINESS, QUIT ASKING! So yeah... later bro!
you know, some of remember last episode, and a comment bywill in his new channel saying they didnt let him say goodbye. crazy people forget edwin was like ay yo wills gone thanks bye.
@@derekspringer6448 that was quite the ramble...useless as it was.
This video is absolutely the kind of stuff I LOVE doing. I wish I could hangout with guys like this. My dream gig is to just be around guys like this
I just wanted to say, I'm from the middle east, been keeping up since yall bought these humviees, And yall are too fun to watch tbh. keep it up!
I seriously love watching you young bucks in your wild and crazy adventures. It takes me back a few decades to a bit more foot loose and fancy free time in my life, and for that I thank you! Keep it up boys! Btw, do you guys mind if random fans of your work stop by, cause we're pretty much neighbors?
Damn good times they were 👍
Great job on the video folks! Thanks for making it. That long exposure stuff at 1:07:30 looked great!
camera work, music, editing, you guys. all premium, i felt like i was on the road trip too. these videos are so entertaining and just get better every week!
Glad you enjoyed it man!
I remember going from the Willis Jeep to the Hummer in the army, when the Hummer was new they were great but when they started messing up they were hard to keep going
Props guys, this looked super fun and also frustrating for all involved, but I liked it despite what the complaints hotline says. Build your way, live your way dude, that’s why I like you guys.
Its funny to see Fab Rats shop with high production value. What a difference. Paul needs to hire a professional camera guy and a better editor. He has so much potential.
EPIC! USA is Gorgeous. 218 Auto Garage, My Man! Greetings from South Africa.
Alligator jerky being "wild" shows how far north yall are 😂 that's a normal thing down south bubba
You guys get help from so many nice people, because you guys are such great guys.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Oh that flashlight, let’s blame Hunter, I’m sure it’s his fault 😉😀
Cheers from Tokyo!
46:40 first thought "bye bye 10mm"..... But fate intervenes and blesses their trip.
We thought the exact same thing
@@GrindHardPlumbingCo i was shocked you found all but one.
I drove several Humvees across Kuwait and Iraq 20 years ago. I’m impressed by how you guys did this.
There is a ring that is supposed to bolt on to reinforce the flex plate. It is the same design as on 1980's Ford Escort automatic transmissions. It's hard to believe a little ring can prevent the plate from shearing out.
Maybe they could get better flex plate durability by using a Mezeire racing SFI certified billet flex plate.
Ethan is a pure mechanical genius and can legit fix anything, anywhere, anytime.
Great to see the community taking care of each other, can't believe what you went through but you got it home!
Love the crossover with two of my favorite channels.
out of all your videos this one is my favorite. love this group of people.
Who can sleep when you're MISSING A SOCKET!?!
I live straight north from you guys on hwy 95 about 2½ hours drive. And it's kinda neat watching a video like this, because your landscape and my landscape are so similar. Its fun because it gives me a picture of what it would be like to drive home from southern california. I usually watch all your vids right off the hop, but i didn't think i'd enjoy watching this trip, but it's pretty epic and i proved myself wrong when i watched it... keep up the good work gents!
The humvee journey continues💪🏼
I honestly loved spending a good chunk of my Saturday evening with you guys. I wish I could be a hand in all of the adventure.
Put a turbocharged caterpillar motor in it
I was looking and i thought i noticed a name engrained in the dash. I think itd be really cool to try to find the oerson tied to that name as it was probably their Humvee when it was in service and give them a off-road ride in it when it's done.
I really love what you guys are doing and it's my dream to do the stuff like you do. Big thank you for letting us be a part of this and showing us your world.
P.S: On 7:33 there is somehaow a bluescreen, maybe you guys forgot to paste a clip into it?
That was the joke. They accidentally deleted film in the last one, so they put in the "film"
Love seeing the collabs. Paul, Matt, Robby, you guys...all awesome content!
yall really need to start releasing playlists of the music, the soundtrack on your videos is amazing.
Your resilience and resourcefulness in navigating unforeseen obstacles demonstrate true perseverance. And I am a floating village life from Vietnam.
Hell yeah part 2
This was the best thing in a long time. All the difficulties and successes made this video epic. Hopefully this will become something of a tradition.
More DirtGarage colabs!
Ooh feature length Hummer madness? Yes please!! 😸👍
woa, even the cat gives a thumbs up?! hell yeah
This adventure reminds me so much of driving across the country in my '69 VW transporter, fair amount of wrenching -- good times.
Love the Fab Rats & Elevated colab, more please!
1000 miles in those seats 😅
😂
What an amazing series! Thank you for taking us along with you. I can't imagine the work that went into this trip or the $$....but as a fan, i can say it was awesome!
Keep it a diesel don't LS it
Mildly tuned LLY would do nicely.
I agree, the diesel suits the hummer well.
What a great adventure! Ethan is the man - wouldn't have been possible if he and the boys weren't such great mechanics.
7:32 looks like a little editing fail here
or a play on "deleting something"
From war beaten landscapes to some of the most breathtaking views of pristine landscape. What a ying yang moment for the Humvee
first view?
Got it!
I got first before
This was an amazing adventure, and like you said you meet so many cool people, but man the biggest message for me was, don't buy an ex-military Humvee unless you want to replace EVERYTHING. But hell its great content/entertainment :D
It don’t feel the same without will😭😭😭😭😭
Will was never going to be part of this trip anyway, even if he was still working with us. 🤣
That red "candy" was likely the GM anaerobic sealer (pn 1052943) which is common to use when sealing up transfer cases
Eww don't put a ls in it put a duramax in it
Couldn't agree more
Eew Duramax schill, lol more power is more power, as long as I see more Humvee I don't care what they do to it
I think when they last talked about it, the idea was a duramax or cummins in one and an LS in the other
I vote ls with a whipple
@@strydknaffla7910 Does the LS have as much torque though?
I will miss will LOL however it really bums me out to see you guys. Only at 2.5 million. You guys should be at like 10 million. I don't watch every video on long-form content due to my ADHD and my lack of free time. But I really appreciate what you do. You're living a lot of my dreams. Thanks for doing what you do. I think you are aggressively underrated don't change and please don't start having high quality rags in your shop bro change but don't lose that we can do this with whatever's lying around. It's amazing! Thanks for the entertainment
I cant believe I missed the opportunity to see this unit of a vehicle make its way down Bangerter Highway. You drove right by where some of my family lives!
Crazy how this vehicle, no matter the setbacks, kept pushing toward the goal.
This was such a cool and relaxing video, it felt like a movie. Whoever did an edit, has absolutely nailed it👍.
Glad you enjoyed it! Had a blast editing it! - Edwin
Wow I must say, the production level of these videos has definitely improved by a lot! And it doesn’t go unrecognized! Great video!! Hands down the best video you guys have done so far!
