I'm not sure a machine this size can pull that much, I have a Thiokol Spryte and it's it's a lot larger and still struggles pulling anything more than a drag, it's more of a personal transport machine.

Arctic Cat Quad Trac. I have had two of them over the years. Two speed trans. Low range 2-3 MPH high range 4-6 MPH. They originally came with a groomer on the back that pulled up with a winch. Air cooled motors always failed with hard use. There is one for sale over in PA right now with a swapped out liquid cooled EFI in it. On packed ground they ride like a tank. Deep snow they are fun. The two round openings on the front and back open for air flow. Has a long tractor battery under the seat that is a pain to get in and out. Do your self a favor and relocate the battery to the back by the motor and get a car battery with 800cca. You will be way happier should you need to jump it. Aluminum body front and back. With fiberglass cab. I put dynamat in the cabs of both of them or you will need headphones to run it. You will need the fan on blowing onto the front windshield to keep it from fogging up.

I can't believe I had a snowcat before y'all! You live in the perfect area for one.
First off, replace every second or third grouser bar with a deeper one and youll have nearly unlimited grip in deep snow.
The more you do the smoother it will be but the heavier your tracks will be, and they get heavy quick!
Keep spare grousers and some belt along with the tools to change them if you plan on driving fast far from home.

That was an Arctic Cat quad trac. Supposed to come with a 500cc Pantera Spirit motor and they were rated at 48 hp. I remember them well. They built those both at the Thief River Plant and the old Scorpion plant because at that time Arctic owned Scorpion. Sheesh that’s like 45 years old man. No wonder the engines gone. Arctic used the 500 Suzuki Spirit from 1976 up through the late 1980s. Parts are still out there among the vintage guys. It was a good engine. Probably not ideal in this application but a good sled engine on the Panther/ Pantera/Cougar/Cheetah.

Colby: most Cat sleds made for 1976 on, with a few exceptions, were Suzuki powered. Now that changed again around 2013. Some Racers and the Lynx 250 twin for 1976 being the exceptions.

The 1976 Z 250 used a Kohler lc engine. Only because Cat ran out of time to develop the Suzuki 250 for that season. Same sled with a 440 used the Suzuki lc. One year only.

I swear the local snowmobile club used to have one of these exact same machines as their trail groomer. They finally saved up and bought a new one about '99 lol. I'm pretty sure one of the local towns is using it to clear sidewalks/small parking lots.

So care to explain how the hell this drive system even works? They mentioned differential and hydraulics so that seems just weird. If its mechanical seems like something one could build at home cheap, while hydraulics tend to be expensive.

    • @Hyratel
      @Hyratel 7 месяцев назад

@@Hellsong89 just on suspicion, based on the way other articulated steering systems work, is it has a driveshaft with a U-joint in line with the pivot, and the hydraulics are probably open center (closed center like a bobcat would be too much parasitic load). the steering might be mechanical, pure hydraulic, or power steering

It is sung in two parts, one at the beginning of the film, and the other part The Grinch overhears, which causes him to realize Christmas isn't about presents.
The second part was later repeated in the 2000 and 2018 film adaptations.

I live in Boise, but I work in Garden city, one of the lots that I pass on the regular, is full of antique snow cats, tracks, engines, and cabs. Everytime I drive past, I stare, as I’d love one.

It's really cool seeing Lewiston. I've only been to Idaho once, driving trucks, and I was deliving to that paper mill you passed.
It was a nightmare, something I'll never forget.

Maybe something like an 1.0 or 1.2litre car diesel engine (smart , honda , ford etc. ) They have plenty of torque and are reliable and should be light weight enough

I live in Wisconsin on the Menominee Indian Reservation and this is the first year we had in my 53 years that we got barely any snow. I think we got one little snow storm and it didn't last long and melted right away. Weather has been warm all year only have a week or so of cold weather. Cool snow cat 🐈😺

The landscape is beautiful up there and a snowcat dude! That’s radical! You guys have to do a little journey like the little red car in the snow cat, of course after you put a bigger engine in it. I spoke too soon. It’s a single seater.

17:55 i am impressed! really! i am pretty sure it will float nicely in 1meter deep snow, light weight and a lot of track surface to the snow :)
Tracks might need some love or be replaced to grip good in the snow :) We had a lot of snow in Sweden in Dec and first half of the jan, but from no where we had temp´s above the 0 degree celsius. and we lost like 40% of all the snow and all powder snow is now a ice lid on the snow. so seeing that you got a tone of snow now make me jealous AF.

The smell of papermills I'll agree is quite a memorable smell. One that'll get your eyes watering in some instances. Feel lucky that the area there doesn't routinely reach into the upper 90's to low 100's with ~90% or better humidity, and the oh so wonderful gut punch that is marsh at low tide, rotting fish, shrimp, and crabs.
Deep whiff of that and if you don't get the feeling like you're going to be dizzy. You've either become acclimated and immune to the smell, or you've got no odor receptors anymore.

Beauty of a 2stroke. Its just so simple.. Compression, Spark, & Fuel, and it will run forever lol.
You could use a cheap starter solenoid replacement off a bigger UTV if you needed to as well.
That thing shreds up the snow and prob dirt too pretty damn good lol, the power of the two stroke makes that possible lol. Plus the fact that it still runs lol..

I wonder if you guys could put a detachable system on the back that would allow you to swap a bed or a storage trailer onto the back over the engine. That way depending on what you guys are doing you could swap out the back making it a practical utility machine.

Everyone in south Louisiana wants to play in mud. I do not. But snow looks like such a good time! I’ve never rode a snowmobile but it’s on my bucket list. I have a raptor 700r 4 wheeler. I want to ride the equivalent of that in the snow! I’m building a go cart right now with a 78-79 corvette body that is so grind hard minus the mill you all would be proud. Love the videos, it definitely motivates me to get off my butt and build something cool!🤘🏼

I think you should stick with a 2-stroke snowmobile engine to keep the weight down. A Rotax 503 Scandinavia, or an Yamaha 540 engine from the VK540. Both very reliable, air-cooled engines used in utility snowmobiles.

You might be able to tow a Dow mobile with it if you make a spot for the skis to clamp to on the back section. You might even be able to make a piece that flips down and holds the tracks up.
