UPDATE: I launched my own handbag collection, made in Europe using vegan canvas and chrome-free leather 😍 -> it's available here: ruclips.net/video/LmKKe5vGvjg/видео.html
I went to Paris with friends in 2007. One wanted a specific Dior bag she'd spotted in Vogue, so off to a Dior boutique we went. She showed the magazine page and asked for the bag; what happened next still amazes me. Salesclerks look at each other, and call over the department head. She spent several minutes questioning my friend about what her daily routine was, what she normally carried in her bag, what the weather was like where we lived, and what colors she normally wore. Department head then sends off salesclerks who return with the bag my friend wanted and two others, then spends about 20 minutes explaining why one of the other bags would be best for her. Turns out it cost less too. Instead of focusing on the sale, she focused on the customer and taught us to determine what looked and worked best for us. I became a Dior fan that day.
What I love about you is the fact that you dont have any long, squeaky high pitched voice intro. You just get to the point. And the content is always interesting. Xoxo
I find luxury bags utterly distasteful... it robs you of individuality and reduces you to nothing but advertisement for the tacky brand and products. Also extremely overpriced for what it is. You don't buy prestige and status anyway. You earn it by treating sentient beings well. If someone is having a luxury bag I run in the opposite direction. Owning one is a good sign that the person lacks intelligence and critical thinking skills.
@@lepetitchat123 you sound suicidal, those luxury bag are not different than luxury watches for men, they are signs of accomplishment and daily reminder of your personal success, the psychological effect is very powerful, you have no idea and they are also lifetime item since they are made to withstand the test of time not only in their build quality but also in their design itself. this has nothing to do with intelligence or critical thinking but all to do with emotion and intrinsic value of a given thing
Hi everyone! Did you notice the lipstick on my teeth? Yes, me too 😭 So let's move on to another subject... What do you expect from a good handbag: Size? Features? Material? Secret pockets? etc. Thanks a lot for your opinion!
For weekends: small structured fits cell phone, keys and wallet; work days: big structured holds in place is hard fits laptop papers wallet cellphone. A big bad that helps me hold everything in its place yes with secret pockets. Has a light inside when i need to find the keys at night
For your question, the bag has to be lighter than the stuff that I put in the bag. Heavy bags are not practical. It feels like a work out to carry one around.
I love your style of presentation. The fact that you try to add meaning to the fashion trends sets you apart from the rest of the fashion bloggers on youtube. There is so much history attached to everything !! Keep up the good work.
I can respect Hermes for that though for not giving celebrities any special treatment or anything. They have more money than majority of "normal" people so if anyone should pay full price i think it should be celebrities
It’s not like Hermes do it for ethics 😄 They keep it that exclusive and unreachable so that people who afford it go the extra mile to get it. It’s not like normal people can even afford to get close to it anyway.
Hermès does give celebrities special treatment though, in a way no one else does. Only celebrities and the superrich are able to buy the bags new, by having connections.
Mirandy, they don't. Even beeing a celeb you have to pay full orice. Watched that with my own eyes. and surely you can get a Birkin as a normal beeing. I got one by mself. You have to spring through loops, that's right. But it is possible.
@@lazyhomebody1356 that price you'd be paying is for the status of the brand, it's not like that 6000 is anywhere near what it'd take to make the bag, unless they're embezzled in gold and diamonds. You can get a bag for 10% of that price that will last just as long, and still be a name brand.
For me personally I do not like to buy and handbag or any luxury item for that matter that clearly has the identifying logo on it. For example I prefer the classic version of the Chanel flap because it doesn't have the inverted C's logo. For me any kind of logo or large monogram seems to cheapen the look of it in my eyes. My opinion stretches especially for branded T-shirts like the Gucci logo styles that seem to have spread these days. A piece with no obvious or large logo is much more sophisticated and classic to me.
I cannot agree more. I was tAlkig to a friend who loves LV and recently got a wallet. There was honestly no worthwhile design element, the leather was just indented with the monogram all over... That's it. I spent the longest time on looking for a Longchamp backpack, and I settled for one that had the smallest Longchamp title on it,and there was no logo on the front of the back (part of the foulonné line, so it doesn't even have the iconic flap, and the zippers don't even have logos lol. I purely got it for its quality, and if someone really wanted to know where it's from, they'd have to get super close, hah). Also, my first lux wallet was from Valentino which I respect because people can recognize it from a design element itself (the rock studs), rather than a logo or the name spelt largely. I am interested in getting a Celine or Hermes product because it also shares that idea. But Hermes is just a dream right now haha. Céline is classy, and very wearable for work.
I feel that, I do feel like spending money on just the "name" being printed heavily on the front, now determines the price. But i am a Gucci kind of Girl, I actually one day want to be able to afford Hermes head scarfs- maybe a kelly LOL. I like brands like Celine and Jimmy Choos because the bags and their designs are simple yet timeless.
I 100% Agree. I live in NYC so you see Gucci and LV Never-full EVERYWHERE!! People like what they like, but I want a designer piece for the quality rather than the "Showiness" of it. Plus if it's just about a logo a bunch of people will just go to Canal St. for fakes
Man, I thought I was the only one. I absolutely hate bags that have a visible logo, ESPECIALLY Louis Vuitton, these ones look so cheap and tacky to me, I don't get how anyone wants to use them. And inverted C's sadly spoil it for me too. Why would anyone want to be a walking billboard?
its so refreshing to see a substantive and succinct method of presenting these topics. none of the silly pre-ambles and overly long and cringe worthy personal anecdotes that other youtubers engage in
For me the important elements are a zip for security, the quality of the leather and/or fabric and timeless style. I have a few Diane von Furstenberg bags that I adore.
Im not interested on luxury handbags but that was actually a great video! All the story behind every design make it so interesting! Thank you justine for another great video!
This is the reason Why you either say you dated a stripper named Charity and always bring her up when she wastex money on charity. Or get an account with bank that lets you name your accounts and name one of them charity and call her out when you cant see the money in that account.
As I'm working at a preschool, I just use MK, Oroton and Coach bags for my daily bags. After watching your video, I bought Longchamp Le pliage club in navy blue from QVB, Sydney last weekend. I love it!!!! Thanks for your video, Justine
I explained this to my husband last year and he now has so much appreciation for fashion, he was obsessed with the idea of a birkin. I will show you your video, I think you explained everything so clearly and in a practical view.
@@GinaMarieCheeseman I so much agree, and the wife of the soccer player who has 100! She could house the homeless in LA. I get a little irritated at these designer types 'lecturing' us about buying clothes are what they call 'fast' fashion, yet support buying things just for the sake of being decadent, and for the name. I know Justine is really sweet, but she is part of the 'cult'.
it never ceases to amaze me either how much people spend on status symbols and name brands either . I personally have never spent more than $80 on shoes and bags. my husband this year bought me a very nice tote made of real leather and it was $85-95 . I plan on having it for 8 years or more. I wouldn't dream of having a bag that cost a down payment on a home on my arm!!
Amanda H, the difference is the designer bags are handmade in limited quantities. It’s not made by people earning slave wages in a sweat shop. That’s why I used to love the Coach bags that used to be made in New York. They were expensive for me at the time, but they were well made, timeless and practical. I still have one from the ‘80s. You can buy them as vintage bags for very reasonable prices on EBay now.
@вылижи_мне писю I don't live in California, and don't understand the point of your comment. If they housed the people, they wouldn't be homeless. Taxes certainly aren't paying for that. But, your comment could be used to illustrate the issue. L.A. is also a very wealthy area, with women who pay 5 or 10,000 dollars for a handbag. And, that could pay rent for a homeless person for a year. It's all a matter of priorities.
Deborah Rapoport there is also a swedish brand called Palmgren which do beautiful bags - they are the same pricerange as the Longschamps but they are generational pieces and in leather
@@ajohonly3721 I wouldn't either! Sometimes I just watch fashion and think about how crazy it can be: what people pay for a Rolex watch is obscene ... but it makes me happy to know that, at least the craftsmen and women who do fine, fine work have jobs. (I just hope they are suitably paid for what they do). It also makes me happy to know I DON'T NEED ANY OF IT! And I LOVE my clothes!! None of my wardrobe cost 'la peau des fesses' (as is said in France), i.e; crazy money. I love fashion/design and I love Justine!
Weight is the first thing I think when I buy handbag nowadays.. size doesn't matter to me because I can adjust what I need according to the size of the bag but I can't use heavy bags so light weight and stylish bag is a must xx
I like cross body bags with top handle. Something medium sized with nice hardware and supple leather or vegan leather. Compartment for phone , keys , wallet is also nice. How about a video on dupes?
Great clips and info from you, thanks! A bag MUST have the "feet" on the bottom, have a detachable shoulder strap, durable yet simple and elegant hardware, a light color lining, easy and wide opening to access contents inside.
I love that you included the Le Pliage - made my day! I have carried on for years because they hold so much, look great, and I don’t have to be too careful with it. I got the larger size to use as a diaper bag.
Bonjour Justine, could you give us your opinion on what will happen to Chanel after the loss of KL? Mainly, how will the prices be impacted? Merci Beaucoup!
I like smaller looking bags that you can find tons of room in! if it looks like it won't fit a water bottle and DOES along with my wallet and other dailies, that's fantastic
Light weight, no metal, well made, zipper that really allows the bag to open up wide. Thank you for the great videos. I have learned so much. You are a very classy lady and have a great presentation style.
- Organization. Pockets. I like things easily and quickly accessible. - lightweight. Don't like when a bag is already heavy when empty. - A clean look. I tend to stay away from logo overkill. Discovered your channel last night. Wonderful videos! 💕😊👍
If I got one of these bags, I'd sent it swiftly to you for all the very useful, helpful information you have given. Thank you so much. What I look for in a purse: One I can open mostly with one hand while I am wearing it. One I can see clearly inside, lighter fabric. More than one season. Ages well, not trendy. Color that goes well with most things. Style that goes with my clothes/style. Pockets or/and barriers, not a big jumble that I am searching through. Not too heavy or with too much hardwear.
You expressed it very well. That Kelly bag is so impractical to open or close.I've had many bags that meet the criteria you just described but they were "not" slouchy nothings. Many local designers make smart and practical bags -made of leather - that's worth exploring. And they don't cost an arm and a leg.
Thank you Justine! Could you make a video about handbag brands that are good quality but not insanley expensive? I am absolutely willing to pay good money for a well made, beautifully designed handbag, but I don´t care at all about famous designer brands (like in this video) and I really don´t like obviously branded pieces. Just an idea. Keep up the good work!
The idea of handbag as investment is intriguing. The analogy is not exact, but like stocks, I won't buy the very highest price stock but will look for one the holds its value and has a great return in usage saving money over the long run. My favorite is Brahmin, I like leather, texture, color variation, versatility, internal pockets zipped and unzipped, handles that work for the hand or shoulder. Small cross body versions are great as well when hands need to be free and bags safe.
Hi Justine! I'm not much into fashion because don't find it a necessary since I'm more of a practical one.Until I accidentally watched a video of yours and got me hooked in your content. You got me everytime you talk about how a piece came to be and why things has to look in a certain ways and so.Clearly, you change my views about fashion itself. And about you question,I' m sure every brand, from an established classic to rookie one, strives to comply to what people needed.Authenticityis a must, but at this point I look for a bag that doesn't demand much of maintenance because at the end of the day, bags should be helping you and not giving you stress. I love how pasionate you are and your views are the content that I subscribed for.Looking forward fot more vids like these in the future!
I love how everything you film is so well informed. And I guessed all the bags that could be in the video before watching, so I'm officially Justine Leconte audience haha, it tok 3 years. Best regards!
hahaha it rather means that you have a good sense of taste and timeless style :-D If you can recognize an investment piece by yourself, you should start investing!
I love that you added the Falabella to your list. I have mine since 2016 and I use it a lot and it still looks brand new. I have no plans to ever sell it (because I love it) but it's nice to see a brand commited to sustainability on the video :)
My favorite handbag seems to be a tote. The prices range from $20 to $295, which was my limit. The bag has to hold my mail, an e-reader, a purse organizer with compartments for this and that, a comb, wallet, water, pepper spray and keys.
Even though I cannot afford one of these bags, with this video I could understand why I'm so obsessed with the bag that I've been using for years (only one! Could you believe?). It's similar to the Prada backpack in terms of shape. It was made in Peru and it has a lovely patterns inspired by the indigenous textils. It combines with almost EVERYTHING
I never gave a second thought to handbags until i kept getting grief from a coworker. I went to a sale a couldn't believe i was actually debating on whether or not to buy a $250. Coach bag. My daughter and I saved a baby duckling that was stuck in some leaves and algae after the waters receded from a flood. We later went to a Dooney and Bourke outlet store and paid $200 for each bag. Not as high quality as the ones you're referring to but our stories and the stories you shared brought me to this conclusion; how lucky are we that we as women can have such amazing and diverse yet still similar "right of passage" as the purchase of our first quality handbag. I love this!!! I have the most deep, thoughtful grin on my face.
Very informative! I love my bags. I don't really look for a certain name when I pick a bag. I always look for a bag that: 1. matches with my wardrobe 2. has a classic, masculine, timeless design 3. is weather-proof and strong Basically, I want something that lasts because, after all, it's something I use to put my stuff in. Extra points if it gets better with age. My ultimate goal is to find "one bag to rule them all" , but that seems far-fetched so I'll stick with my current selection 😂
I LOVE the first handbag (well, who doesnt) As for what i need in a bag ... for work - comfort, being water-tight, enough room for a laptop, books and school stuff (my daily bag is a Fjällräven - well, yes, trekking bag .. not the height of fashion ) For going out - I do prefer a shoulder strap and at least enough room for the usual necessities + room for a small folding umbrella (for that i have a Kirsuberjatréð handbag)
They aren’t. I have a long post somewhere where I show why they are not. Even if you hold a birkin and wait for it to appreciate in value, the returns are horrible with the exception of incredibly rare pieces. They are illiquid, depreciating assets that don’t even pay income. Bags are largely sunk costs and if you don’t believe me, check the second had market for Hermes. Celine bags even have worse resale value. You’d need to buy a crocodile or ostrich limited edition birkin and hold it without wearing it to even gain some form of return and if you legitimately take in the taxes, sales costs, etc. You will rarely find a bag that is an investment. The word “investment” in terms of bags is misleading garbage.
The holy grail of bags for me it would be definitely a kelly, probably in black, because I can't imagine anything more timeless than that and besides its such an elegant bag. When I buy a bag I want it to be light, that the straps are comfortable. It's also great if it has at least one external pocket. I also like that the bag is not extremely big so it is not annoying to carry it around public transport or to put it in front of me when I eat at places where I can't have an extra chair for it.
When I purchase a handbag, I am looking for several things: color, size and design. It has to wear with my clothing and hold what I normally take with me. I do not buy for investment at all. When I am through with a purse I donate it to a charity. it doesn’t ever come down to cost. I purchase what suits me and if it is very expensive I will pass it by. I would love to be able to purchase an expensive bag, but I would not spend my money on a huge purchase of a handbag ever. There are too many other things more important to me than carrying around a 20 thousand pound handbag to show the world how rich I am. Love all of your videos. You are one of my favorite you tubers.
The perfect handbag would be large enough to hold wallet ,glasses keys etc , but not too big. Light weight would be a must , classic style & color & lastly would be stylish for age 20 to seniors . Great video👍
When I was a little girl my mother had a companion woman in her eighties who carried a red crocodile Kelly as as a rule, she gave me a bag to carry my seashell and rock collection in...she told me the name which slipped my mind beyond Hermes and after I spilled apple cider on it I gave it back feeling like I had ruined a nice gift, she offered to get it cleaned but as a ten year old I thought I didn’t need a purse and really just wanted a fanny pack 🤦🏻♀️ Ten years later at age 21 I recognized the same bag in the arms of a woman in New York, I had a pang of nostalgia and immediately realized what I had forsaken so I asked what her Hermes was called since BIRKIN had slipped my mind over the years...oh how she laughed and said honey, you can’t have a birkin just like that! I was devastated and am currently at age 41 searching for a similar bag to the one I had as a kid. This is such an example of how the very wealthy live 😩😩😩 Who just gives a ten year old a birkin to carry ROCKS in?!? Jane, thats who her name ironically was Jane and though she gave it to me I GAVE IT BACK. Truthfully I miss it because of the memories and even as a child I recognized the quality. I’d never sell it, I’d do anything to have that thing back, it was truly perfect, not tacky, the texture was supple, and it carried rocks and shells without any creasing or damage.
So true, I never understood why they are so popular and why people spend so much money on them! They seem so tacky and cheap to me, which is the last thing I'd want from a bag costing me thousands.. The picture of Audrey Hepburn - a first time I actually liked somebody holding this bag :D
One of the biggest essentials for me is that it needs to have enough of a drop to comfortably go over my shoulder. Especially with a winter jacket (Canada in the winter type).
An outside zip pocket is a must for me, to keep keys/transit card handy. Inside compartment for phone and other smalls.. I like bags with option to carry as handbag and with additional or adjustable /longer strap for shoulder or cross. Classic style to go with everything, everyday. Love watching your videos! 😘
An ideal everyday handbag would stand on its own (not slouch), hold the width of at least two books so that it can fit items beyond just phone, keys and wallet.. and not get dirty on the outside so easily. What an informative video. Thanks for the history lesson
I am retired and have a casual lifestyle. My favorite handbags are Hobo because of the soft leather and the details such as pockets and card slots. Luxury bags have never been for me, but, your presentation was interesting and insightful. Thank you.
Thank you for the video Justine... Well, what I enjoyed the most was your hand gestures like tapping your nose or when telling price moving your fist.. I loved them 😍..
I am actually in the market for a new handbag, since my old fast fashion ones are breaking and I am tired of being disappointed. I want my new bag to be very durable and if possible last a lifetime. I am not sure exactly what I want yet, but I have some requirements: -high quality and durable. -absolutely no fake leather at all. -the size should be like it could fit about 2-3 vhs tapes (just for reference) but not much else. Not too big not too small. -adjustable crossbody length strap, plus a regular small handle -i would like it to have feet -some kind of closure that is not zipper -more than one compartment -possible to clean
Awesome, you are such a connoisseur! I already knew most of the bags you talked about were investment pieces, but I didn´t know they would be even more valuable as they aged! Mind-blowing!
Justine! You are fantastic! I got to say I looooove purses and have had so many from trying to find “my perfect” purse. Your video about how to find quality purses was of great insight and I have examined my purses for quality and have only kept the ones I truly value and has good quality. So, thank you for that! To answer your question, I look for a purse that the look is timeless, will not be heavy to carry, is of great quality to withstand the pass of time and use and not deteriorate. Plus, it most fit all my basics (wallet, glasses case, small makeup pouch, cell phone, and a zipper to hold things out of sight -house\work keys, pads, check book). 😉
Hey, great vídeo!!! About your question, probably my biggest complain is the strap not being comfortable in the shoulder and not distribute the height. Especially in big bags. Always makes me conscious on how much height I put inside. Makes me wear more backpacks then I would like.
I want a good quality, soft leather, or cloth bag that is simple on the outside, sleek, etc. BUT it needs to have well-considered organization so as to be practical. I want to be able to have my phone on the outside of the bag within easy reach and findable without looking for it. I need a place to fasten my keys. Bags that have slots on the inside for credit cards, i.d., et cetera are very useful. The problem is that high end bags seem not to have good organization. When I have to choose, I choose to go with a more practical bag, and forego fashion.
OMG!!! My whole life, I have been on the search for the perfect handbag. Back when I was just starting out, post-graduate school, I carried a gardening bag I found in Paris as my purse. It's bucket shaped with two sizes of pockets on the outside and is big enough to hold my computer. I lusted after the LV Bucket Bag and when that was no longer made, the Noe (which I have and love). OK, I'd carry that gardening bag and would pretend it was LV. What I like about that old gardening bag is that it's sturdy, stands upright, allows me to organize my stuff by using the outside pockets, and it's not so big that I can't easily put my hands on things in the main compartment. Plus, the strap is long enough but not too long and because it's textile, doesn't slide down. Thank you for your lovely fashion history lesson. One bag you didn't mention is Hevre Chapelier--I still like their colorful sacs and use the smaller as handbags, particularly in summer. But the last time I was in Paris they had started making some of their bags in China instead of France, how disappointing. Oh, thoughts on Moynat?
Dear Justine, what a nice video! I do perfectly agree with you regarding the 2 forever beautiful Hermés bags, the Chanel 2.55 and the Givenchy Antigona! It's a mystery for me as well why this bag has not the huge success that for example the Louis Vuitton (which I really can't stand anymore...) has! The shape is nearly perfect and the leather/colours fantastic! Anyway: I was lucky and could borrow (many years ago) two of those marvelous bags from my mother (Hermés Birkin and Chanel). Unfortunately thiefs came in overnight and...bags went with them...like many other things. Anyway I think it's important to use a nice and elegant style, even without designer bags. By the way: the Longchamp is very nice, affordable and ideal for travelling. Best regards from Rome/Italy
I love the bags that Offer key leash or a place to access your keys with ease from the outside. When it does not have a loop for the leash it it has a fabric lining I sues a safety pin to attach my leash or the zipper since they usually have a whole in it
Me too. As long as the material is durable, the stiches are good and the look is pretty and goes well with most of my clothes..then it's great for me! Very expensive bags make me unconfortable because i think i need to keep it for my entire life in order to get the investiment. But i get bored using the same bag for some times. I like to switch styles and i can't affort to buy many bags 😁 However this was a good video for info. I feel less ignorant to bag fashion now. ☺
I like watching Justine’s videos in spite of being only marginally interested in fashion. She’s fun, and some of the ideas are useful. I can’t imagine ever spending more than $125 for a bag myself, and generally spend much less. I like my bag to be VERY sturdy, have secure closures, be made of leather or top-quality heavy canvas, and be comfortable when worn cross-body. And they must to be able to be used as a pillow in a pinch, when I am stuck somewhere for hours and end up laying down on the floor to rest (think airports & missed connections).
Sadly I can’t even afford them secondhand. But on a good note I did work for Chanel in their cosmetics fragrance divsion for five years and received earrings and a small clutch. Which I adore but I’ve rarely use because it’s really too small for anything more than a lipstick and my cell phone. thank you for all this information.
Years ago I only liked bags that I could carry on my shoulder, made of leather, and under $100. Now, I look for a bag that is medium-sized, but fits my essential items, and can be carried across my body so that it doesn't put strain on my shoulder. It also doesn't have to be made of leather. I have plenty of bags, and really don't ever need to buy another one. Justine, I LOVE your videos -- they're so informative and charming ; )
I love Alexanger MQueen's Novak design. The silhouette is instantly recognisable and it is stylishly structured for formal wear but still has plenty of room for everything you need.
I love medium crossbody style bags, my favorite is the Make It Mine Byrdie from Kate Spade. It has a flap that can be changed for a new look and they seem to bring new designs with every collection . I also appreciate that buying the new flaps is more friendly to the environment and the pocked then buying new bags . At the moment i have 5 flaps and a new one is already on the way to me :)
Oh no worries on the lipstick, we didn‘t notice that until reading your comment :) for a handbag I prefer a medium size that can be practical to use in many occasions and different day times. Also, an absolute „no“ goes for heavy bags no matter how good they may look. Since I carry my bag all day, the touch must be pleasant so the material must be robust (to also give the impression of being a good quality item) and soft at the same time. A bag that has a good rigid structure can be a bit annoying to hold or put in your lap, but the other extreme of soft bags that behave as a sac of potatoes is also not good because it is difficult to find things that you carry inside. I prefer bags that you can carry in your shoulder if needed. I find very unpractical the bags that need to be carried by hand all the time. I hope this helps :) lovely video, as always, thanks!
I'm not a fan of how any of these handbags look. I think I'm sticking with my Patricia Nash bags. Love her designs and they're a bit more in my budget. 👍 Thanks Justine so much for your videos. You're so pleasant to watch and listen to and I love your advice on simple chic; Parisian style and capsule wardrobes. Really soaking up the advice. To answer your question, I'm a minimalist and love a smaller cross body that fits my cell phone , some cards, cash and a few small things like lipstick. I have the Patricia Nash, Torri Tooled leather crossbody in black and it's been my absolute favorite.
The Prada backpack and the Givenchy Antigona are what ultimately led me to the Prada Tessuto nylon totes and the Givenchy canvas shopping totes. My investment of choice is a basic, utilitarian designer tote that I can throw all my belongings into for years to come. I'm also currently on the hunt for a timeless overnight bag for work.
Cristina Risso I had several Brighton bags from when I was working and my staff bought them for me. They are so heavy even empty it was very difficult to carry but very sweet that they bought them for me. I also worked for Burberry for a short while and received a laptop bag, that has held up well although the edges are getting rough. Unfortunately I don’t have any usable designer bags that are big enough to use every day.
I just bought a Coach Cassie 19 and I love it! The 3 differentiere straks makes it so versatile and even though it is quite small it has enough space for my purse, keys, notebook, pen, two phones etc. ❤️👌
Soft but sturdy leather, structured without being too boxy or stiff, enough pockets inside to keep me organized, lighter weight and in a few sizes to accommodate all shapes and sizes of person. Variety of color is nice but the classic neutrals are always a good choice. Great video. Thank you.
have you tried LaBante London? they have a lot of classic designs and claim to produce their bags out of plastic bottles - plus they cost only a fraction of the price of the designer bags mentioned in this video
Justine, always wanted to know about this topic. Loved knowing about the history of each of the handbags. I usually like clean lines, durable. See you next time!!😊❤
The ideal handbag is : lightweight, calf leather, not too big (in proportion with my body) open on top to access the contents, ( no working flap) satchel style with two sets of handles, stud “ feet” on bottom to rest on surfaces and has a shiny gold or silver metal clasp of interest. Interior would have two to four pockets for phone, sunglasses, etc. I think the Antigone and the Lady Dior are my favorites from your list. Great video!
Thanks! I really enjoyed the video! About your question, I really think that a good bag have to be practical: - I can open it with one hand, - it has a separator inside and has at least one pocket (better two) so I can separate my phone from scratchy things like keys for example), - it has to give me an option to wear in my hand, on the inner part of my elbow, but also on shoulder (that way I can use it, whatever the weight is of the stuff I put inside, but also as an everyday and night bag/purse), - it has to be easy to combine with most of my wardrobe and with all the neutrals, - it has to be made of leather, - it has to be secure enough, to make sure it is not easy to steal stuff from inside (zippers etc.)
Well I think it depends on your lifestyle. So for me a tote is the most practical and versatile bag that every woman have to have in her wardrobe. Great video 👍
I used to be a whatever fits the moment girl, but now I only buy two brands of handbags. They are both local designers (as I move more and more towards Romanian designers because I like to encourage local producers). They are both working only with real leather and are completely original. Since they are also on the more pricier side, you don't see a lot of those around and that is a plus for me, I hate wearing what everyone else is wearing. One is Bookletta - handbags especially made for readers who want to showcase the book they are currently reading (it has an exterior transparent pocket for the book) and the other is Iutta, which makes handbags with embroidered traditional Romanian motifs. Both brands make handbags suited for every type of event, be it casual, sporty or formal and are very well-made and durable.
Nona Bgo Thank you for the suggestions! I am Romanian and didn’t know about these brands! They look truly nice (although the transparent one would be such a pain for me because I wouldn’t like anyone to witness the usual mess in my bag). I was actually looking for a bag and now I will consider these brands.
I bought a Fendi Spy secondhand about 10 years ago and when I got it, it was already 2 years old. Everytime I look at it, it gives me so much joy. It is so well made and unique.
I do not have much public comment about fashion, except this one... but I find your advices and reviews very reasonable and classic, thanks so much! I'm a fan of classic European style!
Wow! What a super cool experience. Thank you for sharing!
this gave me goosebumps at the end haha!
thats awesome wow
This is exactly how they do it in Paris! Sure miss it :) I had a similar experience at the Chanel flagship store.
Great story! But it's also smart business: they want a customer for life, not just a customer for that day.
What I love about you is the fact that you dont have any long, squeaky high pitched voice intro. You just get to the point. And the content is always interesting.
Xoxo
Iza H I LOOOOOVE THIS ABOUT JUSTINE
Yes. It's a rare blast
@Pop Corn Hello. I'm not sure I understand your answer
the shade.
Very true.
I don't even buy luxury bags but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. So informative and classy. Thank you Justine 😊
same here :-))
Same here.... even if I had the money
You don't???.......... You imbecile.
Love the French names pronounced with a true French accent!
‘Hold my champagne!’ 😂❤️ I absolutely adore you
😁 I agree!!!
Skye Farhoudi best line 🤣🤣
Hi everyone! Did you notice the lipstick on my teeth? Yes, me too 😭 So let's move on to another subject... What do you expect from a good handbag: Size? Features? Material? Secret pockets? etc. Thanks a lot for your opinion!
Comfort is the first thing I look for in a good quality bag ie: good quality straps that don’t dig in to the shoulders, etc.
Nope, haven't noticed the lipstick!
For weekends: small structured fits cell phone, keys and wallet; work days: big structured holds in place is hard fits laptop papers wallet cellphone. A big bad that helps me hold everything in its place yes with secret pockets. Has a light inside when i need to find the keys at night
Didn't see it
a bag i can wear crossbody and is made of the softest leather (or exotic skin). not too small not too big
For your question, the bag has to be lighter than the stuff that I put in the bag. Heavy bags are not practical. It feels like a work out to carry one around.
I agree with that! I've had some nice bags that I stopped carrying for this very reason.
True, lighter but also durable.
True!
TRUE !!!
Yes. I like the style of Fendi Peekaboo but after trying it on, that darn purse is too heavy!
I love your style of presentation.
The fact that you try to add meaning to the fashion trends sets you apart from the rest of the fashion bloggers on youtube.
There is so much history attached to everything !!
Keep up the good work.
sania somayya she is a REAL fashion blogger
I agree! I love all the background info!
@@platosfriend You have a car, don't you? I could see paying $6,000 for a bag that I would carry for a lifetime
And it gives them free advertising
I love that you include the history of the bags...More please! Maybe history of certain fashion pieces???? Thanks. Love your channel
its so refreshing to see a substantive and succinct method of presenting these topics. none of the silly pre-ambles and overly long and cringe worthy personal anecdotes that other youtubers engage in
Millennials dieing AT HORRENDOUS RATE.....WAKE UP AMERICA ...WE HAVE a WAR BEING FOUGHT ON OUR SOIL.......TRUTH....will STOP THE DEATHS.
For me the important elements are a zip for security, the quality of the leather and/or fabric and timeless style. I have a few Diane von Furstenberg bags that I adore.
I️ love how your face lights up when you talk about the history of these bags. Votre passion est évidente 💕
Je suis tout à fait d'accord.
Loved the video 👏🏼
I like bags which hold their shape. Not a fan of slouchy bags.
same ! that's why I can't do the popular Stella McCartney Falabella .. I much prefer a firmly structured bag
Mostly watching this for the history behind the bags
Im not interested on luxury handbags but that was actually a great video! All the story behind every design make it so interesting!
Thank you justine for another great video!
“Jane Birkin uses her royalty received to donate to charity.”
Wife: I bought this bag to contribute to charity.
Gaddai The Rage 😊
This is the reason Why you either say you dated a stripper named Charity and always bring her up when she wastex money on charity. Or get an account with bank that lets you name your accounts and name one of them charity and call her out when you cant see the money in that account.
When you didn't know you wanted a "Kelly" until you watched the video. 🤩
After the video I know that the last thing I need is a "veeeeery exclusive" Hermes Kelly handbag. It's not even that nice.
RIGHT?!?!
As I'm working at a preschool, I just use MK, Oroton and Coach bags for my daily bags. After watching your video, I bought Longchamp Le pliage club in navy blue from QVB, Sydney last weekend. I love it!!!! Thanks for your video, Justine
What a great video! Can you do the same for jewelry?
And shoes
Yes please!
Jewelry would be very interesting!
I explained this to my husband last year and he now has so much appreciation for fashion, he was obsessed with the idea of a birkin. I will show you your video, I think you explained everything so clearly and in a practical view.
My husband gifted me a Speedy 30 (?) for a wedding gift in 1986. It’s still amazing and I love it. ❤️❤️❤️
Get insurance for it. Great investment!😉👍
When I read "investment" I had no clue it would literally mean thousands of dollars. It beats me how money is spent in such a way :D
It seems so gross given how many people in the world don't have enough food to eat. However, this is an interesting video.
I want my handbag to fit day and night look equally well, and look good with many styles of outfit.
Since the Antigona is out of my price point, I love Furla or Longchamp for their smooth, structured leather that has just a bit of polish.
Deborah Rapoport there is also a swedish brand called Palmgren which do beautiful bags - they are the same pricerange as the Longschamps but they are generational pieces and in leather
Oh lord I just love this channel
No kidding.
Andrea Andrea hahahahaha I love it as well but I honestly don’t think I could pay that amount of money for a bag....
Y
Never really understood why these handbags are priced so high until your video. You are best, Justine.
I like pockets so I can separate categories of items in my bag. I'm a teacher, so that can include a lot of interesting items. 🙂
Weight is the first thing I think when I buy handbag nowadays.. size doesn't matter to me because I can adjust what I need according to the size of the bag but I can't use heavy bags so light weight and stylish bag is a must xx
Loved the video!! ❤Please do one for shoes and jewellery too!
oh that's a good idea... let me think about it!
Yes please!
Yes please 😊 love you Justine. Watching from NH 🇺🇸
Payel Aich great idea! I’d love a jewelry video like this
Me too from Texas!
I like cross body bags with top handle. Something medium sized with nice hardware and supple leather or vegan leather. Compartment for phone , keys , wallet is also nice. How about a video on dupes?
I’m sick but then Justine uploaded my day has gotten better 😊
Get better soon 😘
Great clips and info from you, thanks! A bag MUST have the "feet" on the bottom, have a detachable shoulder strap, durable yet simple and elegant hardware, a light color lining, easy and wide opening to access contents inside.
I love that you included the Le Pliage - made my day! I have carried on for years because they hold so much, look great, and I don’t have to be too careful with it. I got the larger size to use as a diaper bag.
I was waiting for long time for this video, thanks Justine
Bonjour Justine, could you give us your opinion on what will happen to Chanel after the loss of KL? Mainly, how will the prices be impacted? Merci Beaucoup!
Good question! My mom was all about Chanel and I'm interested too. Great post!
Bonjour beautiful classy Justine. I'd like to know as well. D from Texas!
What I look for in a purse:
One I can open mostly with one hand while I am wearing it.
Picard Lederwaren (Germany), they have a very beautiful Kelly-like bag
this please!
Also, It would be wonderful to find out which handbags are made with fair trade/good ecological practices. :D
I like bags with structure and stand up, not hobo, slouch, or formless. Ideally most bags would be large enough to carry a tablet.
Justine, which one of these designer bags do you have? Or have you invested in something else?
You have no idea .. how much I admire you Justine and I'm straight . Thank you for making these videos.
The bag has to hold my mail, an e-reader, a purse organizer with compartments for this and
that, a comb, wallet, water, pepper spray and keys.
I always look for a bag that:
1. matches with my wardrobe
2. has a classic, masculine, timeless design
3. is weather-proof and strong
Basically, I want something that lasts because, after all, it's something I use to put my stuff in. Extra points if it gets better with age. My ultimate goal is to find "one bag to rule them all" , but that seems far-fetched so I'll stick with my current selection 😂
I LOVE the first handbag (well, who doesnt)
As for what i need in a bag ... for work - comfort, being water-tight, enough room for a laptop, books and school stuff (my daily bag is a Fjällräven - well, yes, trekking bag .. not the height of fashion )
For going out - I do prefer a shoulder strap and at least enough room for the usual necessities + room for a small folding umbrella (for that i have a Kirsuberjatréð handbag)
I never thought of handbags as an investment piece. Thanks Justine!
@@rimun5235 would u share the link of ur post? I am interested in looking into more details. thanks!
They are - it’s like certain sneakers
Lipstick or not, this is another great video, love your work!
I love videos like this! I love the bits of fashion history you put in, I'd love to see more of it
When I was a little girl my mother had a companion woman in her eighties who carried a red crocodile Kelly as as a rule, she gave me a bag to carry my seashell and rock collection in...she told me the name which slipped my mind beyond Hermes and after I spilled apple cider on it I gave it back feeling like I had ruined a nice gift, she offered to get it cleaned but as a ten year old I thought I didn’t need a purse and really just wanted a fanny pack 🤦🏻♀️
Ten years later at age 21 I recognized the same bag in the arms of a woman in New York, I had a pang of nostalgia and immediately realized what I had forsaken so I asked what her Hermes was called since BIRKIN had slipped my mind over the years...oh how she laughed and said honey, you can’t have a birkin just like that! I was devastated and am currently at age 41 searching for a similar bag to the one I had as a kid. This is such an example of how the very wealthy live 😩😩😩
Who just gives a ten year old a birkin to carry ROCKS in?!?
Jane, thats who her name ironically was Jane and though she gave it to me I GAVE IT BACK.
Truthfully I miss it because of the memories and even as a child I recognized the quality.
I’d never sell it, I’d do anything to have that thing back, it was truly perfect, not tacky, the texture was supple, and it carried rocks and shells without any creasing or damage.
No!!!! That hurts.
That's a great story.
Chanel is my favourite. I can't see the appeal of Louis Vuitton bags at all - I don't like the shape or pattern.
karen scally exactly what I always thought about LV.
Don't like the LV bags. Too many tacky celebs use them.
So true, I never understood why they are so popular and why people spend so much money on them! They seem so tacky and cheap to me, which is the last thing I'd want from a bag costing me thousands.. The picture of Audrey Hepburn - a first time I actually liked somebody holding this bag :D
I think the Alma BB in Damier Ebene is actually quite nice for a casual bag that doesn't need to be babied
Yeah, they are fugly. Chanel's is the prettiest one :)
Thank you, Justine! As always a great video! I couldn’t see the lipstick! In a pricey handbag I look for good quality and timeless design.
I am not sure exactly what I want yet, but I have some requirements:
-high quality and durable.
-absolutely no fake leather at all.
-the size should be like it could fit about 2-3 vhs tapes (just for reference) but not much else. Not too big not too small.
-adjustable crossbody length strap, plus a regular small handle
-i would like it to have feet
-some kind of closure that is not zipper
-more than one compartment
-possible to clean
Try with a Furla My Piper! That's my everyday bag: comfortable, practical, classic and beautiful. No fuss.
@@eugeniarv4040 it seems to be a little bit too big for me, but otherwise good suggestion! Thanks!
Characteristics l look for : lightweight, durable, small- medium size
Nubby Rose we have the same taste
I prefer backpacks, but still durable, with multiple uses, lightweight, with natural fibers
When it does not have a loop for the leash it it has a fabric lining I sues a safety pin to attach my leash or the zipper since they usually have a whole in it
Jennifer Walker yeeeessss because I have lost all of my keys except for one bag because it has the leash.
Oh yes! I have a keychain with a clasp on it and when there isnt a loop inside I am looooooost.
I usually just buy a nice locally made leather hand bag, cheap and durable. This vid is probably not for me, but great vid!
Same here! You have to stress about maintaining this pricey bag whereas a good nice bag is enjoyed fearlessly.
@robin dunst maybe? Lol anything comes up on your mind?
I like watching Justine’s videos in spite of being only marginally interested in fashion. She’s fun, and some of the ideas are useful.
I can’t imagine ever spending more than $125 for a bag myself, and generally spend much less. I like my bag to be VERY sturdy, have secure closures, be made of leather or top-quality heavy canvas, and be comfortable when worn cross-body. And they must to be able to be used as a pillow in a pinch, when I am stuck somewhere for hours and end up laying down on the floor to rest (think airports & missed connections).
@@mirelasemanjaku yeah, it's nice to have selection! At our own pace and budget tho 😅😂
The perfect handbag is inexplainable. You go with your heart I think
Well said!😊
Mid to large size, backpack, black, leather and/or water resistant canvas, lots of pockets and a laptop section, durable.
Thanks Justine so much for your videos.
I love my Prada backpack. Didn’t even realize it was so iconic when I bought it. I just needed something stylish but hands free. Best purchase ever.
My favorite is Antigona by Givenchy!
Light, resistant, pretty. Some bags are already heavy when empty. Some fall apart too easily. :)
Thank you.
two videos JUST-IN from JUSTINE???? YEEEEESSSSS
I love the designs of the classic leather bags, but I'm looking for something which is not leather or PVC, due to environmental concerns about both.
have you tried LaBante London? they have a lot of classic designs and claim to produce their bags out of plastic bottles - plus they cost only a fraction of the price of the designer bags mentioned in this video
@@petal_in_shadow I hadn't heard of them. Amazing tip, thank you!
@@Victoriasm31 you're welcome, glad i could help ;)
Also, Stella Mccartney use vegan materials :)
For me with luxury handbags, it's all about the feel. I feel confident when I use it. I feel that it's worth it. I love it every single time I see it.
