This! And I second r/abrathatfits and/or bratabase. It changed my life! My band and cup size were completely wrong, and same with the shapes I chose. A proper bra is actually comfortable! (ETA: Comexim bras changed my whole outlook on my body- no exaggeration)
I was just about to say this, a video on bras would be so cool! I only own one regular, plain bra and three sports bras which I have owned for years. I have trouble finding strapless bras which fit me and are comfortable, which really limits my wardrobe! Hope you can help, Justine!
I feel these suggestions are not about not looking "older" but about not looking tired, worn out, irrelevant like an old unwanted object. That feeling can hit at any age of life.
@@jennydlynd Wearing certain things can make you look older. If you want to look younger, then don't do those things. If you don't care, then wear as much as you want. No one is saying you can't ever wear tons of jewelry, just that, if you want to avoid adding age to your look, avoid too much. You can't just wear a bunch of it and look younger for it just because you like it. But you can wear a bunch of it and look older and not care because wearing a ton of baubles is worth it to you.
We also had the same “take one thing off” jewelry rule, with the twist that you turn away from the mirror, and when you turn back, you take off the first piece you see. It worked beautifully if you were concerned you had overdone it just a bit.
Honestly, I don't give a flip about fashion and I don't have any idea how I found your channel, but I truly enjoy watching your videos and have subscribed as I sit here in sloppy shorts and a tshirt. You seem just like a genuinely wonderful, positive person. Hope you have a wonderful day and life.
Same! I just love listening to people who know what they are talking about and can do so in a clear and friendly manner. I don't care about fashion at all, and would encourage anyone to wear whatever the hell they want, but this channel is so refreshing. Plus, I love her smile so much.
I laughed reading your comments and thought how nice! I love Justine’s channel as she is authentic and extremely knowledgeable she puts a great deal of work into her videos and I enjoyed them as well and her point of view being French and having her fashion business in Berlin and having studied in the US. For example her videos on perfume, handbags and shoes I learned a lot about history and quality. I just came over to You Tube from Facebook after reading someone’s rant about humanity so to find some comment “sweetness” is great. I read the comments on “good” You Tube videos and learn a lot!
I had a French grandmother who taught me a lot of these things and I have a stepdaughter who is 16 and in desperate need of help I’ve been sending her your videos in an effort to help her understand how to flatter herself and embrace classic taste and style (her mother and I are diametrically opposed stylistically) I heard her in the bathroom the other day saying “I should take this ring off I look like a Christmas tree” THANK YOU JUSTINE! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Fit nowadays is such a struggle, because of how brands save money by cutting essential fabric out of shirts etc. as you've explained so well in your videos! Thank you, everything you post is so useful and interesting and to the point!
1) Don't wear completely loose outfits. suggest contours of the body. Enhance your good features by wearing them fitted rather than hiding everything. 2) Monochromatic outfits. Pair with complimentary colour to break the harshness of black. 3) Dont wear ill fitting clothing. Old clothing or styles that once fitted your proportions but no longer do. Fit your clothes to your body not the other way around. If you have old clothing you love that doesnt fit get it tailored to your current shape. 4) Dont be a christmas tree! Less is more. Jewellery is elegant don't overdo it. Curate your pieces quality over quantity. 5) Ill fitting bra. Check straps. Dont let them dig in it effects your posture and makes you slouch. The band is too tight it will squish you and have overhanging body fat and underwire/cups your breats should fit comfotably supported in the cups not overflowing on top out of the bra. Check your fit regularly.
Except for the fitting bras, I disagree with everything. Some people look good in completely lose outfits, others don't. Some people look good in all-monochromatic, others don't etc. It depends on your (kibbe) bodytype, personality, overall look and so much else.
Gitte Van de velde learning about Kibbe body type has been so enlightening to me. Not just to apply to myself but in understanding why things look appealing or not on any body type. It takes time to understand but well worth it.
EmmaAppleBerry agree , I’m over 60 and don’t wear baggy saggy clothing . I did a video here on Cocktail Dresses for older women . Can we wear Figure Hugging Dresses , yes we Can 😊
Jeans are my "scale". I always wear the same label/curvy style (a fast fashion variety, but works for me). For my temperament, it is far less traumatic to be informed by my jeans, that I have gained weight rather than looking at the number on a scale. Justine Leconte videos are always helpful. Thank you.
I adore women's fashion as a male. This is very informative especially working in women's retail environment💌. Keep these coming. The ladies are impressed when i volunteer to approach them with fashion tips when coming in my store. I couldn't be happier actually. ❤❤
Your professional yet approachable attitude about fashion is what RUclips needed. So happy to come back to your channel and find new, sensible tips that's don't involve spending coin but thinking about our choices ;)
Justine Leconte you come across as being such a lovely, lovely person. Thank you for your gentle, thoughtful videos - and your practical hints! I love your style (and your beautiful accent!).
I never admit to my age but my kids are both in their 20's so I'm not young. That being said, I find that one of the biggest agers of women is hair color. My natural color hair is very dark brown, almost black and that was the color I've been using to hide the grays...until I saw a woman who had black hair who was clearly around my age. It aged her terribly. So i went a shade lighter and had highlights added. Much softer look for my older complexion.
Our next door neighbor in his 60s continues to dye his hair and beard a deep black and the color is much too harsh. It's interesting that our natural shade can look so unnatural as we age.
Helen D I had a similar experience with make-up. I happened to catch myself in the mirror, and I realized my eye make-up was too dark and harsh looking. I had been wearing it the same way for so long, I didn't realize that I needed to tone it way down with age.
Oh man, that “high-waisted jeans on a curvy bottom half” tip is a lifesaver!! I finally figured that out maybe a year ago. When I was in college I could pull of low-rise, but it took me years to figure out why it wasn’t working any more. 😅
Justine, please, please, please write a book! I would buy it in a heartbeat. You explain everything really well and with a lot of taste, never offending. Kudos
That’s a really good tip about the monochromatic outfit! I didn’t think about how it might wash you out because there’s no contrast. These all white or all cream outfits are so popular in the spring and summer, but I don’t think it’s the most flattering, unless there’s a pop of color somewhere. I think that’s why people lean toward a red lip because subconsciously they’re looking for a contrast.
Thanks Justine, you talk sense. No finger-pointing, safe space. This years fashion is harsh for 50+ menopause women. Better to invest in basics than wrong colour! Let's go for a pretty bra and feel good. XO from Amsterdam
I just love it when you say to do it accordingly. Everyone is different and different things suit them. You’re the only RUclipsr who gets the concept right.
People should also be more aware of changes in their colouring whether it be hair dye or skin tone i went from being in the sun alot still pale very blonde to being indoors a lot darker gold ash blonde with even more pale white skin. And naturally when my hair darkened my clothing colours changed the brights that once suited and flattered my very blonde beachy hair now looked almost gaudy with my more toned down softer appearance. It allowed me to try out clothes that seemed too tame or pale in comparison to my initially beachy look. I think that would be a good reminder for people who also are embracing going grey or white knowing that now their hair is bright or lighter they can wear much more colour and be bolder than they may have been able to previously.
That’s very true, I’m naturally very contrasted looking coloring wise (asian black hair with lighter skin, dark eyes and eyebrows) and when I did my first highlights ever I swear I looked completely different. Now I’m just letting it grow (my hair is quite fragile) and become dark again and I was very confused on why my outfits look different now. I had never thought about that!
So true. If I get my hair toned differently I’ll notice my make up doesn’t work anymore. Took me a minute to figure out what that was but it’s all about ever so subtle coloring changes. Good thing I learned how to do my own hair!!
I love listening to you speak! Beautiful voice and eloquence. You have incredible fashion perspective and a most elegant authority, in my opinion. You say "garment" and "tailored," and I just want to be a better styled person due to your existence. Thank you, Justine.
This video was very helpful for me, ad fun! I am 62, I believe that I have evolved into a comfortable, contemporary and age-suitable style for myself, but this information was still very usable. I do lean towards too "flowy" and too monochromatic. I am going to enjoy adding a bit of "fit." I have fresh eyes on accessorizing; adding that dash of color. I appreciate your warm and cheery tact. Thank you!
@@elizabethpink Absolutely! I find it really troubling that people use words like 'distasteful' when discussing what older woman 'can/cannot' wear. Women are subjected to some ridiculous notions of what is appropriate. Who are others to judge? Wearing the uniform of the older woman just serves to reinforce one's invisibility in society. Forget that!!!!!
If you like flowy clothing, wear flowy clothing, its your body and your money paying for clothes. If youre worried about making yourself look boxy or bigger, pair a nice flowy top with nice fitted pants. You can also do the opposite, flowy bottom with fitted top. I like maxi dresses in summer, so ill buy dresses that are light and flowy on the skirt portion but well fitted on top especially around the bust and upper waist. And if i wear a pancil skirt, i always buy high wasted pencil skirts and pair it with a flowy top tucked in loosely. The high waist hides the fact that ive had 3 kids and gives me a very attractive hourglass silhouette. Either way, wear what you feel good in.
I will be sixty-eight next month and I can still knock'em dead!! Be a little edgy, have a flair, start your OWN trends! Be realistic about what has changed, what is still great, and what needs to not be noticed..
So agree . I always try to add that slightly edge touch to My outfits . I don’t like to fit the mould for Older Women Styles . Still there is a fine line . I think I’m walking it just fine too lol 😊
And hair style is a huge giveaway too, it's like an accessory for your look, if it doesn't evolve, it won't look harmonious. You need a good tailor in your life, and a good hairdresser ;-)
chrissie as What do you think about older women (50+) with long hair? I feel a bit sad that where I live, 99% of older women feel the need to cut their hair short (I mean anything above your chin, some going for the pixie even) and I feel there really is no need. I understand if someone’s hair gets really thin with age and they don’t like to have it long anymore, but if there really is no need besides social pressure (many older women here judge each other if they dress really feminine/ have long hair). My mother is 57 and I think she looks good with long hair. I myself want to keep my hair long if I can manage. What do you think?
Mia Death get a cut that suits you ! Personally ive never really looked good in long hair but have people in My circles who are 70 -90 and have gorgeous long hair or even wear Very cool wigs in colours so wear what looks good on you and if you want to continue wearing long hair and its not physically possible get a wig and I would suggest a wig that doesnt mimic natural hair colour but is cut really beautifully - you can get a good hairdresser to do amazing things ! And if you have the hair and the face shape to pull it of Hallelulja go all in and decide whether you want to do natural hair which can look Fantastic ! Or a colour but based on what you look like Now because your face and your skincolour changes as you age and that effects your hair and wardrobe ! ( check out imogen lamport if you want more info on that and then check out trinny for tips how to break the rules and still look good make up and tweeks- both on youtube) Ps dont know what happened with that line over the text...
Hi Justine! I recently changed all my bras. game changer! I bought the SAME size BUT in a different brand and material (I chose cotton). What a difference it makes! no more red lines around the bust and i can finally breathe!!!
Good bra changes everything! Recently I bought my first proper bra, fitted by a brafitter, and it changed how I stand, walk, breathe and also how the clothes look on me!
I also wore too small bras, mainly because there aren't enough sizes available in ordinary stores. Even the plus size bras end up at too small cup sizes. (I'm European cup size H, and stores usually carry bras up to cup E and sometimes F.) To solve the situation at one point I ordered and returned a few bras at one online store, chatted with their customer service, and found my real size. Can't afford having many bras though, because these ones are more expensive.:(
I’m 65 now, but when I was in high school I had a teacher that dressed very well. Always looked A+. Her recommendations for not overdoing accessories, was to count to 10 and then stop. Every button, bow, buckles on shoes, bracelets, earrings, brooches, necklaces, etc....counted as “1” and you couldn’t go past “10” or you would look like a “Christmas tree!” 😉
Merci, Justine! This video is packed with sensible advice. It's useful & helpful that you regard the issue more as dressing according to your changing silhouette rather than attaching age limits to particular styles or items of clothing. It makes me a little sad to see someone wearing a nice piece that they obviously have loved but that no longer fits properly because their body has changed. Thank you for discussing bra fit, one of the most important aspects of a woman's wardrobe. Seeing an outfit ruined by an ill-fitting bra is a major pet peeve for me, & there are so many examples out there! Your discussion of monochromatic ensembles reminds me of US Senator Elizabeth Warren, who wears a "uniform" of all black topped with a bright, color-saturated jacket for public appearances. She always looks great.
Thank you! As a mature woman I could not agree more about tailoring. I have learned to draft patterns and sew because I hate the current no shape fashion. Makes you look fatter. I use bust darts and waist darts. But look at the major pattern companies : Vogue, Simplicity, MaCall. Mostly boxy patterns. So perhaps it is hard to find tailored clothes? Also please read The Lost Art of Dress. In there the fashion advisors of the 1920-1950s say what you say. Mature women can wear more sophisticated cuts. Also, all outfits should bring attention to your face. Pop of color with clothing or necklines or accessories. Brighten your face and you wont look so old. Again, you should read The Lost Art of Dress.
I will look for that book. Thank you. I also sew and don't like McCall Vogue or Simplicity patterns - they are expensive really need an update. I'm relatively tall and thin and their patterns are both square and way short. It's been easier to take apart old pants or thrift pants that fit well and use them to make a pattern. Modern designers make much better patterns.
I had the misfortune of being a teenager and young adult through the mid 1980's to early 1990's (and a small and skinny one at that) and so I was in my early 20's the first time I put on something that actually fit. I looked so good I felt self conscious about going outside. But I got used to it and I was hooked. To expand my options, I started altering my clothes (myself, hand-sewing). Now I got a sewing machine. There is no turning back once you start down the road of tailoring your clothes. But it's not a bad thing. And I don't care what fashion does, my clothes shall fit properly.
I'm so tired of the skinny-jeans-and-boxy-blouse look of the 2010s. It doesn't agree with my shape at all, so here's hoping the 2018 resurgence of high-waist pants brings back more varieties of fitted blouses.
the problem with finding tailored clothing is that the range of body shapes makes it so hard to fit to everyone and fast fashion is about selling to everyone! I'm a fellow sewer and I love the fact that I can make things to fit me!
OMG the discussion about bras is spot on. I am 38 weeks with pregnancy number 5 over a 8yr period. I think I have sets of bras in 4 different sizes depending on pregnancy, whether I'm lactating, or for between pregnancies. Pay attention and make sure you are supported and comfortable.
I am 32 and I dress like I am either 25 or 35. I wear more luxurious fabrics and more darker colors. More of my clothes are classic than trendy which I think can be worn by all ages. There are some youtubers who say they are 30 but look 40 based on the way they are dressed. I think it can go both ways.
You have a gift for speaking the truth with love. It is rare to see it so genuinely and on social media. I thik this is my favourite thing about you and the videos you make. Thank you.
I think it would be great if you did a few drawings about what you mean. I'm not sure I'm visualizing the same as you, and understand that "don'ts" are not something to be illustrated by photos, but I do miss the imagery...
I love it when she includes pictures. She did this for some of the body shape videos, showing how some celebrities style themselves very smartly. It was very helpful. But I guess there are regulations regarding that kind of content, which might be why she hasn't done it in a while. A sketch seems like a good idea to add that visual to the explanation. :)
I’m really glad you mentioned monochromatic outfits. RUclips fashion gurus are always saying to wear monochromatic outfits. I don’t really do that because it’s not flattering for me. It’s nice to hear something different for once, from what everyone else seems to say.
After watching this video I went straight to Debenhams (UK) for the bra fitting service. A lovely member of staff spent at least half an hour with me and I've come home with a fabulously fitted bra that feels like it's been made for me .
Your videos were the first ones that dragged me to the french chic way and I can’t be happier for finding you. We need more in this world! Love your videos. My partner just saw you and he said “wow, who is she? She’s so beautiful and has a divine smile! I said “my gorgeous french style teacher!” Merci Justine!
Hi Justine, lovely video. I just wanted to add some advice on bra’s since I’ve been a sales specialist for 8 years working with lingerie/undergarments . When the bra band on your back is tight, that is very normal. The elastic is tighter than your skin so it makes perfect sense that it will show some sort of cut in your skin. When you have a bit more flesh/fat on your back or when your skin becomes more loose when aging it is impossible to avoid. When you buy your bra more loose, the back will rise up and hang in the front causing it to cut even more into the skin and your cups to stand open. The only options you have is buying a bra with a higher back band. But brands will adjust the straps+back band given your cupsize and band size. When you’ve got a fuller bust, you will need more support so wider straps and a higher band. An E cup can’t have the same straps and bands as a B cup. In European sizing you basically have a 70 when wearing a shirt size 36/38 and a 75 goes with shirt size 40, 80 goes with shirt size 42. That’s usually the case but there will be some exceptions off course. Love, Aleks
I'm sure there is a general sentiment that we want you to do a video (hell, make it a series) on lingerie, most notably bras. I'm guessing it's a trickier topic, so I'd love to see your take on it
It's 10 times on my list... but I still don't know if RUclips would censor the video, showing skin is currently considered not OK by the algorithm 🙄🤨 The rules have changed recently so I am waiting a bit, until we know what the "consequences" are...
@@justineleconte that did come to mind, but then I remembered that there's a lot of videos of bikini try-ons, so I thought RUclips is ok with showing skin. that being said, I know the algorithms are confusing, so I definitely understand your concerns
The flow and disposition of the fabric very much enchances what you may be trying to achieve..a clever tailoring can make figure flaws disappear..so much fun!
I agree with everything except about monochromatic outfits. I, and I think others, look particularly amazing in all black. It's a classic look for a reason!
It is a fantastisch look but sometimes it looks and feels more "mature" then what I really am. It makes me also feel sleek and power full. To make it a bit "younger" the pop of colour really helps ☺️
I love the way you break things down and explain them... makes total sense! And I could honestly listen to you speak for hours about ANYTHING- I adore your accent! ☺
A tip I heard about retro/vintage clothes is if you remember wearing them the first time round don't wear them again when they come back in fashion as it makes you look like you've never moved on from that era.
Oh, nonsense. Just don’t wear them IN THE SAME WAY you’d wear them before. I wear longer tunics and skinny jeans today. I wore leggings and skinny jeans in the 80s. The jeans and leggings today aren’t styled the same as back then. Tops and jewelry are much more restrained. Colors are different. We wear a lot fewer accessories. Similar lines, different details.
Here in Canada if a woman wears a lot of jewelry she is usually over 50. That means her youth was in the 80s. We wore big earrings, necklaces, bracelets, brooch, sometimes stick pins and hair jewelry and anklets. Holy smokes!
@MsBizzyGurl You've missed eyeglasses. I'm not sure whether your comment ends suggesting I update my presentation or suggesting everyone should. I haven't worn all the jewellery I described since the 80s.
@Kathleen Craig - I live in Australia, recently turned 50 & was an 80s kid (Gen X). I wear no jewellery 99% of the time & minimal jewellery for the remainder. The 80s made it OK to wear costume jewellery instead of everything having to be precious metals & precious stones - but we didn't necessarily accessorise to excess, we used colour, texture & our hair as accessories. People wore too much jewellery well before my generation. My mother (in her 70s) only ever wore high quality gold jewellery - but too much of it all at once & many women of her age & above do it. I put it down to her generation being Baby Boomers who grew up with post-war shortages, ration books & true poverty (the previous 2 generations also suffered wars, so it's prob been going on a v long time) which resulted in a need to display their current financial security around their necks. I often had to dress my mother for functions & do her make-up & I remember telling her in the late 80s that by wearing bundles of jewellery all at once (no matter how expensive), women just make themselves look cheap & gawdy & that dressing like Mr T was not a fashion goal that anyone should aim for. We 80s kids always get the blame for everybody else's fashion faux pas'.
Kathleen Craig Yes I’m in the USA and my grandmother loves lots of accessories, though her youth/funnest times were also in the 70s disco phase with lots of jewelry as well. I have some friends that were born in the late 80s that wear tons of jewelry all at once and to me it always made them walking targets. Even though most of it was cheap.
Great advice, I sew and and make everything (shop bought and made by myself) look "right for me"as I am 5ft 10, and have done so for 50 years, love your channel. Sue UK xx
As far as I know, Justine has spoken out against fast fashion. Check out her other videos she is really all for sustainable fair fashion and speaks boldly about not supporting it primarily because it hurts and disadvantages others. Something most of us were unaware of until she kindly pointed that out. Keep watching she is great.
Really? I mean, just get the basics. The good thing about fashion is that you can find some special favourite items each seasons. Like, once there were mostly pastels (ugh), but a few months later, I finally got my strawberry red shirts. :)
Elisa Castro Also sometimes you have things that are more important in your life like kids, mortgage etc. I think it’s good to have a few classic, well made pieces that will last for years and will save money in the long run over cheap clothes.
Justine, you are so warm, and your tips are so sensible! I used to watch your videos before I moved to France to get a feeling for this country. Then, I was a long time busy with other matters. Now that I've been living in Paris for almost 2 years, I came across your videos again. Nice to see you again! Well, living in Paris now, I am quite puzzled by (very) old ladies wearing rather short skirts - even the First Lady. In my personal opinion, showing knees full of wrinkles is a confirmation of your high age. Or very dark, red lipstick when you have a lot of wrinkles around your lips. I don't think one must always look young, but I also wonder why one should look older than one really is.
Justine, I love your first tip about not going all loose. It's like the rule; If you're going to wear a short skirt, don't also do a lot of cleavage. So, Loose on the bottom half, fitted on top, or vice-versa. It's such an intelligent and EASY rule to work with! Thanks!
In the Kibbe body type system Natural types look great in non fitted drapey clothes works for some. French people in general are small boned, not big boned Natural types so they look best in fitted clothes. Think of a Samoan woman wearing fitted clothes. It’s not going to look nice but when she wears flowing drapes clothes she looks lovely.
Sort of. Thin is NOT the same as small boned and I don't agree that most French people are small boned. Most look pretty average to me, they just aren't often fat. Drapey is not necessarily non-fitted, the soft material helps the clothes take shape from the bone structure. For example I'm 52, soft natural body type with average to large bones, 5'7", 120# (170cm, 54.5 kg) and drapey is great, but too oversized still makes me look like a slob. Semi-fitted tailored clothes look fine on me but bodycon isn't a great look.
Fitted is not the same as structured. There is beautiful cylindrical sillohette, that I've seen in some cultures. The visual lines are structured, and not flowy at all. But neither is the clothing form fitting. When done properly, the look is very elegant.
In Russia we say the same thing about “looking like a Christmas tree”😄. Sometimes it happens to me☺️. Thank you for reminding about simple but important things 👏🏻
Excellent tips, Justine. Thank you! I especially appreciated your knowledge about bra fitting. I live in a rural area about 100 miles from a large city. Though I've been fitted before by "experts" in a nearby "city" ( population 14,000) & bought the bras, they didn't feel as comfortable or look quite as good as I hoped. Recently, I went to Nordstrom 100 miles away. Oh my goodness! What a difference! Their expert really was an expert ! I left with 3 bras that are comfortable, supportive, and look great! They really support " the girls"! 👍 What a difference in my looks, posture, and confidence! 😁 I appreciate the knowledge & expertise you bring us! ❣💞💞❤
These are some very helpful tips. At age 54, I find that my body has changed a great deal and I needed a little help. Merci bien! ~Anastacia in Cleveland, OH, USA
Hi Justine! How about a video on androgynous style for women/men, with different body types, I like the look, but I don’t know where to start Love you 💕
Very true!! Thank you! Too dark dyed hair in women over 40 as well. Highlightens wrinkles and looks too hard contrasting to the skin... and very unnatural
Don't know, I've seen some older women with dark hair that looked very beautiful and classy. Although they had dark brown eyes and their skin looked good. Maybe that helped.
I think any extreme of colour more than a shade or two away from one's natural colouring looks harsh as we age. By this I mean lightening your hair too much away from your natural tones, or that popular extreme peroxide-blonde looks as terrible as the blue-black box dye on most people who use them. I also think unnatural colours such as Manic Panic type primary colours, the pillar box reds and hot pinks etc look terribly hard and unflattering on older people where as teens and early twenties can pull them off easily.
@@Evija3000 if this is very close to there natural hair color it's true. If you go 2-4 Nuances darker than your natural hair color it doesn't match your skin tone anymore and start to look odd and harsh, like a wig.
Hi Karen - I also found, then when I died my hair, I had to rethink my clothing choices. Black clothes do not go with every hair color. And going grey or silver (not white) can mean toning down the wardrobe color palette to more muted (pastel) colors. When the clothes and makeup don't go with the hair, all the details of our face sem to stand out.
Apparently, I need This. A few days ago I was asked if a kid was my daughter. She’s 8... I’m 19... EDIT: Wow, first time I got This many likes. Thanks guys.
There's something about the way she talks that's makes me feel so happy?! Besides her cute accent, they what she puts and explains things. She feels like those teacher who we will always remember.
💖💖💖 Love this. I needed a reminder! Especially for the bras! Looks like ill be chucking them out. I rarely wear jewellery. If i do its maybe a ring. So i thankfully dont have a christmas tree vibe going on. I steer clear of monochromatic unless its for a very formal event like an interview or funeral something where you want to blend and be respectful and professional and cleancut. Also im very pale cool toned so in place of black if i can get away with it i wear navy blue instead since it not only suits my skin tone and flatters it it also makes my blue eyes pop. Im a jewel tones type of girl for colour or pastels depending on the season. I do have a bad habit of not wearing clothes that fit and flatter my body. Not because of self esteem but ive always been modest and dont like people staring at my body im an hourglass shape and i love my body but even if i cover up if i have a fitted chest or hip or waist area i often end up looking more sexualised or 'inappropriate' simply because i have more pronounced curves and am well proportioned. Even at home i prefer loungewear. Although in the past few years ive been trying out more fit and flare styles peplum etc to accentuate my shape. Im still not there but im getting more comfortable wearing clothing that doesnt completely hide me from unwanted attention. Also the jeans thing my god i can never find jeans that fit me! Ive found the european denim to be soft and stretchy enough for me to be mildy comfortable and to fit half decently without being super tight yet still flattering. I also find for my shape high waist ankle grazer jeans to be the best look. Even though i still hate wearing jeans i do actually wear that type and try to wear it when the weather suits and not feel horrendous as soon as i do.
Best style channel on RUclips in my opinion. Justine' videos never start with the obligatory 'I'm so excited' or the 'so many people have requested I do this video' crap while they wearing makeup that looks like it's been applied with a trowel, it's so thick. I really dislike fakery that's why I enjoy these videos.
I find every one of your videos to be informative and filled with real tips that you explain exquisitely. Thank you you’ve truly helped me in many areas, especially proportion & fit.
In India we believe in quality+quantity. Traditionally women are suppose to wear 16 accessories(shringar) and most of the jewellery is in solid gold, for foot jewellery like anklets and toe rings silver is the better option
newzealand703 I am sure that works really well in India but not likely in other places! I am sure your working women don’t go wild on accessories at work. However, at parties they can feel free to go all the way and look marvellous!
@@light-yi2me you are right , working women prefer light weight jewellery but oxidised silver statement earings , tribal necklaces and super bright and embroidered clothes are a common sight
Justine! I just found your channel recently and have gone back and watched several videos! Ive enjoyed them so much and really gained alot from them. Your intro with your bright sparkling eyes, mischievous grin and your "hi everyone, its Justine" just makes me smile each time. Xx
I absolutely love your videos and your way of telling these tips, and they do really work! You have became like my mentor in a really short time. Thank you Justine ❤⚘
Justine, I LOVE how practical you are! You are just WONDERFUL!!! Thank you for all your profoundly good common sense! (Less and less COMMON these days). You give me hope.
Thank you so much Justine! You have the most impeccable style & I always trust your advice. Best fashion guide on RUclips! PS: that color is beautiful on you😊
I used to work at the Jockey store. We were taught that the bra straps should not be doing most of the support. The band fit is very important and should form the foundation of the support.
I really enjoy this channel even though I have never been interested in fashion trends. I'm glad to hear that it's normal that the bra size changes over time and can even vary from year to year. I just replaced the bras that I've bought a couple of months ago and I'm relieved to hear that it's normal.
100% agreed. The problem is never your body! It's the fit, especially when your body changes. I wore low-rise flare legged jeans in highschool and into college because that was the style then, and I was an inverted triangle shape. In my mid 20s, my hips came out of nowhere and now I'm an hourglass with a long torso. I just started wearing high waisted skinny jeans and it has done a ton for my look and my confidence! The wrong fit can make you feel poorly about yourself.
I’m taking lots of notes here. I’m 22 but have been turned away from clubs/bars (even with ID) because I look 12 without a full face of makeup. I’m sure that’s not how this video was intended but thanks Justine!
I would add that an outdated haircut and a ton of makeup definitely ages you. I am a big fan of changing my hair as a part of a fresher look, and when it comes to makeup, less is more. I totally agree with the part on accesories, also, less is more! ☺️
Hi Justine, I think a video about loving ourselves and accepting ourselves would be in order. So many women commenting they don't like this or that about themselves. Who are we dressing for? We dress in what we like, not so we can get looks or compliments. If we do, great. If not, it's ok too. Having a love for ourselves is key because it shines out of us for the world to see.
Thank you for the video. I agree with your tips. As a mature woman, I would like to add these 3 tips: 1. Wearing dresses or skirts mid-calf 2. Non fashion related: wearing very long, non layered hair 3. Again, non fashion related, wearing very bold lipstick. I always end up removing it because it makes me look like my grand- mother!
Diane - I just learned about blurred lipstick look. ▪ no lip liner ▪ apply lip stick and blot ▪ gently and lightly apply blush around the outside and edge of lip (this gives the lips depth) I found it worked great on giving my old lips new life, without being so dramatic.
These videos you provide for us are full of excellent ideas Justine! They're the kind of things I wish my Mam, or my big sisters had told me. Thank you xxx
Thanks for the video! Definitely guilty of monochromatic baggy clothing. The slight pop of colour through an accessory is something I’ve never even thought of, I can’t wait to try it out.
I don't mind looking older. It's called bright maturity. Call me hippie or Boho, but Loose outfit is a MUST for me, because I am super slim. Our society is too obcessed with the ilusion of eternal youth. Maybe I am an old soul, better be myself and Rock my old style. Elegance, comfort and confidence in myself are my wardrobe.
I find accessorizing the hardest part of putting together an outfit. I didn't know who had said to do a mirror check and take off one accessory before stepping out the door, but I have sworn by that advice for as long as I can remember. I apply that piece of advice literally and it works like a miracle. Sometimes there is nothing to take off, but often there is and the look goes from off to exactly right.
You are just having a shopping assistant for free! I totally like your vision of fashion industry, although I am much more vintage looked and I don't care looking older. I think it is classy. I should have been born in the fourties hahahaha
Update: get my new PDF guide TIMELESS STYLE IN 7 EASY STEPS: www.justineleconte.com/timeless 😘 It's free.
I would love an entire episode just on bras, and how to get the right fit. I find that whole issue so difficult!
you need to read r/abrathatfits subreddit. they help me :)
Cecilie O. I have spent so much on bras an none fit perfectly. I hate them.
Second that
I feel these suggestions are not about not looking "older" but about not looking tired, worn out, irrelevant like an old unwanted object. That feeling can hit at any age of life.
Sometimes trying to dress too young makes women actually look older. Too many accessories is also a big no no. I agree.
Too much jewellery is distasteful regardless the age issue
Only Iris Apfel can get away with this
Somehow it works for Iris Apfel. But she's incredible.
Unless you want to. Wear whatever you want. Be yourself. Ignore silly rules.
Hope you have a wonderful day and life.
ahem, mee too!
If you watch more of her videos, you will see she is indeed a genuinely wonderful, positive person :))
Totally same. I work from home in PJs, but I just love this channel and Justine. Such well informed advice.
I had a French grandmother who taught me a lot of these things and I have a stepdaughter who is 16 and in desperate need of help I’ve been sending her your videos in an effort to help her understand how to flatter herself and embrace classic taste and style (her mother and I are diametrically opposed stylistically)
I heard her in the bathroom the other day saying “I should take this ring off I look like a Christmas tree”
THANK YOU JUSTINE!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I was hoping for some pictures to illustrate her suggestions.
Fit nowadays is such a struggle, because of how brands save money by cutting essential fabric out of shirts etc. as you've explained so well in your videos! Thank you, everything you post is so useful and interesting and to the point!
I love how you say, "Hi everyone! It's Justine." It's so quick and adorable
Thank yoooooou!
Thanks
EmmaAppleBerry agree , I’m over 60 and don’t wear baggy saggy clothing . I did a video here on Cocktail Dresses for older women . Can we wear Figure Hugging Dresses , yes we Can 😊
I love wearing all black with a red lip and a colourful bag
kaminten Classy!❤
Sounds like a Bond girl!

And shoes! I love all black (or navy) with red shoes, bag, and lip. One of my favorite outfits.
All black doesn’t suit me at all. I look pale/grey. Definitely not flattering for me. Am envious it looks great on other people.
I wish you added examples of what you were describing
...with visible images and may be 15-30 second statements!
Check out Busbee Style channel, she shows a lot of pictures.
Agree -- more visuals! Love you though, Justine!
Right, she could edit it photos , examples.

I grayed early and it's a shame, because dark brown is what brings out my eyes and makes me look awake and young. But not when the roots show!
Helen D I do the same!
Helen D I had a similar experience with make-up. I happened to catch myself in the mirror, and I realized my eye make-up was too dark and harsh looking. I had been wearing it the same way for so long, I didn't realize that I needed to tone it way down with age.
I am 57 yo and don't hide that, why would I?
Oh man, that “high-waisted jeans on a curvy bottom half” tip is a lifesaver!! I finally figured that out maybe a year ago. When I was in college I could pull of low-rise, but it took me years to figure out why it wasn’t working any more. 😅
I love your guide videos. They're minimal but to the point. No unnecessary blablas.
Justine, please, please, please write a book! I would buy it in a heartbeat. You explain everything really well and with a lot of taste, never offending. Kudos
Write several books please!?😊
That’s a really good tip about the monochromatic outfit! I didn’t think about how it might wash you out because there’s no contrast. These all white or all cream outfits are so popular in the spring and summer, but I don’t think it’s the most flattering, unless there’s a pop of color somewhere. I think that’s why people lean toward a red lip because subconsciously they’re looking for a contrast.
Probably, yes 😊
Thanks Justine, you talk sense. No finger-pointing, safe space. This years fashion is harsh for 50+ menopause women. Better to invest in basics than wrong colour! Let's go for a pretty bra and feel good. XO from Amsterdam
Ageing is not for the weak at least we have experience ha ha
EmmaAppleBerry Great point/issue to think about!
Thank you!
If I may say, “age appropriate” is a myth. Dress how you want, wear the clothing and styles you fancy, and never mind what others might think. 😉
@@jennydlynd yay sister.
I saw a 75 year old wearing a pastel miniskirt with flounces today and it really did not look very good. If it made her feel vibrant, great.
I will be sixty-eight next month and I can still knock'em dead!! Be a little edgy, have a flair, start your OWN trends! Be realistic about what has changed, what is still great, and what needs to not be noticed..
True!! Start your own trends....and what still needs to be noticed". Very original and not following others 💕
So agree . I always try to add that slightly edge touch to
My outfits . I don’t like to fit the mould for Older Women Styles . Still there is a fine line . I think I’m walking it just fine too lol 😊
Marie DeLozier ^^^ THIS!!!
And hair style is a huge giveaway too, it's like an accessory for your look, if it doesn't evolve, it won't look harmonious. You need a good tailor in your life, and a good hairdresser ;-)
chrissie as
What do you think about older women (50+) with long hair? I feel a bit sad that where I live, 99% of older women feel the need to cut their hair short (I mean anything above your chin, some going for the pixie even) and I feel there really is no need. I understand if someone’s hair gets really thin with age and they don’t like to have it long anymore, but if there really is no need besides social pressure (many older women here judge each other if they dress really feminine/ have long hair). My mother is 57 and I think she looks good with long hair. I myself want to keep my hair long if I can manage. What do you think?
@@chatnoir9038 totally agree, no need for short hair, just healthy bouncy hair/ shiny hair that suits your style
Anna Rehbinder
Thank you for your input! Also, I think the line might come from putting a ”~” at the beginning and end of text but I’m not sure.
@@annarehbinder7540 i think it's because of the "-" symbol between 70 and 90, if you erase it the line will go away
Hi Justine! I recently changed all my bras. game changer! I bought the SAME size BUT in a different brand and material (I chose cotton). What a difference it makes! no more red lines around the bust and i can finally breathe!!!
Great video yet again. I like the considerate and respectful way you speak. Thank you for the great tips.
Good bra changes everything! Recently I bought my first proper bra, fitted by a brafitter, and it changed how I stand, walk, breathe and also how the clothes look on me!
I was guilty of wrong bra size, but at the time I didn't know better. My posture is much better now, the back pain reduced a lot!
I also wore too small bras, mainly because there aren't enough sizes available in ordinary stores. Even the plus size bras end up at too small cup sizes. (I'm European cup size H, and stores usually carry bras up to cup E and sometimes F.)
To solve the situation at one point I ordered and returned a few bras at one online store, chatted with their customer service, and found my real size. Can't afford having many bras though, because these ones are more expensive.:(
@@elainelouve I have a small ribcage, but I'm tall-ish with big boobs, so finding bras is though!
Clever! I’ll try to remember that
Me whose earrings alone make 11 pieces: "I'll just count them as one" 😂
Very interesting)
Wow! I had a teacher who did that, too! It's always stuck with me!
About wearing too much accesories, in México we say "Se colgó hasta el molcajete" ("She threw on herself even the mortar and pestle"). 😆
Hahaha thanks, I didn't know the Spanish translation
Lolol!
😂😂😂
Susie Queue We say the same thing in the US.
😂😂😂
Thanks for the book reference. I will look for it. 🖒
My best feature is my feet.... so I wear lots of sandals or go barefooted.☺
Yes, I kept thinking the same thing.
I feel like this is a common thing in her videos, they tend to be very informative but a visual struggle to understand what she means :)
I never have any luck when I go to those places.
Your videos were the first ones that dragged me to the french chic way and I can’t be happier for finding you.
We need more in this world!
Love your videos. My partner just saw you and he said “wow, who is she? She’s so beautiful and has a divine smile!
I said “my gorgeous french style teacher!”
Merci Justine!
Justine, I appreciate how you explain these tips so clearly and kindly.
Love,
Aleks
Would work fine I guess to wear a tight tank top (skin colored) and wear a bra on top of it! :)
To make it a bit "younger" the pop of colour really helps ☺️
love all white look
I love the way you break things down and explain them... makes total sense! And I could honestly listen to you speak for hours about ANYTHING- I adore your accent! ☺
A tip I heard about retro/vintage clothes is if you remember wearing them the first time round don't wear them again when they come back in fashion as it makes you look like you've never moved on from that era.
I am enjoying bell bottom jeans lately, but I don't think that I could get away with the crazy eighties looks that I wore as a teenager.
Depends. I have clothes in my wardrobe that are timeless classic styles I bought 30 years ago. They still look good on me at the present day.
Once you live 40 years, you will :) some 90s fashion I really missed and have worn it again 2nd time around ;)
Always a welcome phrase "this is a safe space "
Thank you Justine. You're wonderful.
@@laceyr_8322 Thank you for the flashback! It was fun anyway. :)
The 80's fashion was departure from classic style
Sue UK xx
"There's no finger pointing here: this is a safe space" (except you, fast-fashion; I am pointing my finger at you!)
Bourgeois Barbie That is not a person tho?
As far as I know, Justine has spoken out against fast fashion. Check out her other videos she is really all for sustainable fair fashion and speaks boldly about not supporting it primarily because it hurts and disadvantages others. Something most of us were unaware of until she kindly pointed that out. Keep watching she is great.
😂😂
The striped sweater looks amazing on you. Another helpful video, Justine!
And when I saw the thumbnail, I was sure it was going to be an example of what not to wear.
It's very frumpy and aging, IMO.

I don't care what you talk about, I just love listening to your accent and seeing your smiling face!
Such a lovely video. You cover everything. Totally appreciate your work and ethics. 🙏
These are some very helpful tips. At age 54, I find that my body has changed a great deal and I needed a little help. Merci bien! ~Anastacia in Cleveland, OH, USA
Hi Justine!
How about a video on androgynous style for women/men, with different body types, I like the look, but I don’t know where to start
Love you 💕
I kinda like the style for men too
@Iván Castellanos I agree!
Androgynous style for curvy girls, please!
@Bla484 yessss! Maybe on how different body types can achieve the androgynous look?

What I enjoy abut your videos is that they always short and positive and it gives a nice lift to my day!
Very true!! Thank you!
Too dark dyed hair in women over 40 as well. Highlightens wrinkles and looks too hard contrasting to the skin... and very unnatural
and the opposite: bleach blonde hair and the telling orange-taupe color that comes with layer upon layer upon layer of fake tan.
When the clothes and makeup don't go with the hair, all the details of our face sem to stand out.
she seems like an authentically nice person. very real. not snobby or condescending AT ALL
Apparently, I need This.
A few days ago I was asked if a kid was my daughter. She’s 8... I’m 19...
EDIT: Wow, first time I got This many likes. Thanks guys.
Oh, the person asking just wasn't awake 😉
I need this too, but the other way around. I'm 23 but from time to time I get mistaken for 14 :/
@@matildas3177 I used to get that a lot. It used to make me angry. Oh well! Happy days.
Ha, a kindergartner told me yesterday that I was like her grandmother.
LOL
Love that you are flexible in your ideas and non-judgmental
You give really intelligent tips. Thanks Justine. Have a great Sunday. 😎
There's something about the way she talks that's makes me feel so happy?! Besides her cute accent, they what she puts and explains things. She feels like those teacher who we will always remember.
Looks like a Christmas tree! LOL! In Greece we call them dressed like Laterna! Laterna is a highly decorated street Barrel piano!

You are such a warm and kind individual, Justine. I enjoy your videos very much. Thank you for creating them.
Yay!!!! So glad to watch your video after such a long time 😀
It is been a while indeed 😀
I find every one of your videos to be informative and filled with real tips that you explain exquisitely. Thank you you’ve truly helped me in many areas, especially proportion & fit.
Thank you 😊
In India we believe in quality+quantity. Traditionally women are suppose to wear 16 accessories(shringar) and most of the jewellery is in solid gold, for foot jewellery like anklets and toe rings silver is the better option
Huh, interesting, I looked it up. I didn't know there were so much rules and tradition around it.
That is interesting. I love traditional Indian outfits. The colours, the cuts etc.
newzealand703 I am sure that works really well in India but not likely in other places!
@ Jahnavi you are right.
I missed you! So happy you are back with educativ content
I really enjoy this channel even though I have never been
interested in fashion trends.
Hi Justine,
I think a video about loving ourselves and accepting ourselves would be in order. So many women commenting they don't like this or that about themselves. Who are we dressing for? We dress in what we like, not so we can get looks or compliments. If we do, great. If not, it's ok too. Having a love for ourselves is key because it shines out of us for the world to see.
Happy Sunday,💓 thanks for your advices... It always helps me to feel a little bit more confident about myself
So nice to see you again. Somehow I've missed your programs.
Thank you for the video. I agree with your tips. As a mature woman, I would like to add these
3 tips:
1. Wearing dresses or skirts mid-calf
2. Non fashion related: wearing very long, non layered hair
3. Again, non fashion related, wearing very bold lipstick. I always end up removing it because it makes me look like my grand- mother!
Diane - I just learned about blurred lipstick look.
▪ no lip liner
▪ apply lip stick and blot
▪ gently and lightly apply blush around the outside and edge of lip (this gives the lips depth)
I found it worked great on giving my old lips new life, without being so dramatic.
I try to make it balanced, if i wear something baggy on my upper body, i wear something fitted on my lower and the other way around as well
I don't mind looking older.
You can probably rock a loose outfit but others might not.
Yes!!
Sounds beautiful to me.
Encore une fois, très pertinent.
Merci beaucoup pour ces réflexions pratiques!
I like the fact how you are helping out one person at a time. I was the boxy clothes kind of person.
You are just having a shopping assistant for free! I totally like your vision of fashion industry, although I am much more vintage looked and I don't care looking older. I think it is classy. I should have been born in the fourties hahahaha
