- The winter parking ban from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. on many major city streets - regardless of snow on the ground or lack thereof - has been in effect since 1980. CBS 2’s Jermont Terry looks into a question many have been asking for years - why does the city tow when there’s no snow?

This is legal theft. Update the laws already. Most people are barely making it from paycheck to paycheck they don't have tow money.
As a resident of Chicago it’s not about snow ❄️ we have no snow the signs says snow. It’s 50 degrees and no snow. But they love to oppress people here. They will tow and boot these people cars and have no remorse. This is why the people act like they do. Pain is inflicted on them so their demeanor is I gotta get my lick back and hurt others because they did it to me. I can only speak about what I know and what I see.

It's such a money grab. And if the city wasn't making enough money from the tows, they'd find another way to screw people over.

They don't get free cars, they get money, ppl are able to get their cars back
In Illinois if you don’t claim a car after 30 it becomes property of the towing company or civil entity. If you owe on the car you get stuck with the loan.
I remember when I was a kid the city workers use to hand us a stack of the orange papers
With the black writing to go around and put them on the cars. They would give us a couple of dollars..

It's definitely legitimately fraud by every mean possible by stating only two in two inches and you tow in ño inches it's fraud and autotheft

I kinda understand why the City put that law in effect. I lived through the Blizzard of ‘79 and the city was, basically, caught with their pants down as far as clearing the main arterial streets was concerned. Nobody saw that snowstorm coming and nobody knew how bad it would become.
That is why the city needs to make money in those areas. I will no longer visit that area to learn what they are doing.
If the tow truck don't take it the carjackers definitely will-Brandon "buckwheat' Johnson.....
If they can enforce such a crazy law, then WHY can't they do something about the crime, murders, smash and grabs, street crime, and gang violence?

That picture is from the 1967 blizzard. We stayed home a couple of days. 27 inches.
That is incredible like once in a decade or two type of blizzard I only moved to Chicago in 2005 almost got stuck in the 2011 blizzard.@@rambojambone4586

Read your neighborhood parking signs not that hard its City & State Law since 1980's Law will be staying because City is Broke needs money 💰

The City (and CPS and the State of Illinois) are spending (money we don't have) like "drunken sailors" and borrowing in the Municipal Bond Markets stacking up debt endlessly. Revenue is needed and the streets need to be cleared efficiently. You can wish and hope for leniency, but hope is not a plan!

Seriously? It’s literally 4 hours a day. Just don’t freaking park there. I guarantee you that it will not kill you. Wait, is this Chicago? Ok, with your crime, I can’t guarantee that. But still, you don’t want a ticket or to get towed, don’t park there. Look for the signs around there before you leave your car anywhere. I mean dang. I haven’t had 1 parking ticket in my life and have been driving 26 years. Not even one. Grow up and don’t blame the ticket writer. Blame yourself for parking where you shouldn’t. Maybe your city wouldn’t be falling apart if you took a little accountability for your actions. Seriously? Since 1980 and still you haven’t learned not to park there? That’s kind of sad.
I used to be against this revenue generating scheme of towing when there is no snow but now, TOW BABY TOW Chicago needs the revenue to support the illegal aliens!
Get off your high horse. Many folks don’t think abt those GD signs on warm or mild snow-less days like today, December 1, when the signs go into effect. Also, there are many tourists and visitors that get caught up in this scam. It’s archaic & punitive for no legitimate reason.
