Thank you for this, I did my turbo on my 05 silverado, watching you, now I have to do both of my CV shafts, torn boot on left, and hearing crunching and cherping on the driver side
Good videos. You always seem to pop up when I look up maintenance or repair work. A few things: 1) as other have mentioned, make sure to torque that nut to spec or you'll wear out the wheel bearing. When I did the wheel bearings for both sides the video I extracted information from instructed to use red loctite. 2) I've gone away from reman'ed parts myself; I've had to do the same job twice because of reman'ed, so I buy only new. 3) Lesson's learned on the wheel bearing job--use impact rated 6point sockets only. I broke three chrome sockets during removal. Anyway, you've probably done complete overhaul on your LBZ by now---I'm glad to see that I don't have to remove a lot during this job, thanks for the videos, they really help.
I want thank you, for the information and instructions you shared. I have 97 Chevy K1500 4x4. I hit a dip and the driver side CV Axle Boot tore. My CV Axle ended in to pieces. I was able to install my new CV Axle than 10 minutes. Thanks again.
Best cv replacement vid I’ve seen on here, and worked out excellent
Thanks
@@TruckMaster hey, some say to remove the shock. Is that true i see you didnt so i was jw
Thanks to your video I was able to replace the CV axle on my '03 Silverado without removing the tire! Although I did remove and replace the sway bar link. I noticed that your lower A-arm is different than the one my truck. My lower A-arm has like a cross brace that's why I had to remove the sway bar link to remove the axle. Awesome video!!!!
Thanks man
I thought I had to remove everything just to change the boot. Glad I did my research. Thanks for sharing .
I gotta do my cv axle now had her in 4x4 today because of all the snow up north and whenever I turned she didn’t feel good almost like my wheels were rubbing. Good news is that a I got this kick ass video to show me bad news is that it’s almost -20 here
I love these old videos
I like the work smarter not harder method very interesting good job man
I agree 💯💯💯
Nice torque on that axle nut...
Appreciate the video. Ive seen to many people take to much off when they don't have to.
Perfect video, 2 quick questions
Would u bother to greese the splines a little, and would u put anti seize on bolts or thread locker
Thank you for making this video. It's perfect.
Sorry for the noob question, but did your lift not come with spacers for the CV axle, or are they not required in some cases? Also, I have a 4inch lift on mine, but I keep blowing the boot about every 3 months. Ate the special CV axles for lifted trucks? Thank you in advance.
Mine came with a spacer I’m a 6” lift
Thank you so much for telling me to leave the tire on. Finished mine in just over an hour last night. Great Job!
Thanks
It's easier to do if you remove the wheel and use a long extension on your impact. (no time spent on your back)
5 minutes of extra work that is technically unnecessary but saves 30 minutes of necessary work
Been here since 1 k followers you've come a long way keep up the hard work and great videos as always every time I watch them they are so helpful 👌🏼
+jon maciel I really appreciate the commitment take care brother
Did you have to use an extended shaft? Since it’s lifted. Or can I just use a regular one also. Mines lifted 6 inches also
I like the video. So glad I wasn’t the only one who changes out cv axles this way. By the way is that a SuperLift? Also where did you buy your heavy duty tie rod ends and sway bar extension links? Only place I could find for my 6 inch knuckle was Jeggs
A couple of questions in regards to my 2008 Duramax HD 4x4 Long bed . I have to replace the cv shaft , it should be the same as the 2007 ?
If I plan on doing Hot Shot is their a higher grade for the cv joints that I should look for ?
¿ Are ya in a Cav unit or Helo unit cause your wearing Flight gloves , well what’s left of them ?
I was in 2/3 ACR way back in the day . Enjoying your videos .
I Lowe your truck it is so cool! What size lift and tires do you have on it? What year is your truck, I'm sure it's newer than mine. I got a 2003 2500HD Red Chevy 4 door short bed with a 6 inch lift and 20 inch Speedline wheels and 37 inch Ironman tires with a Durumax diesel, she is my dream truck. I named her Big Red lol! I got a 2003 for two reasons, one because I got a good deal on it and I can take the money I saved buying her to put lots of sweet parts on her and she is on her way to getting loaded up with performance parts! Two because I love the bodystyle and 2003 was the last year they made before they started putting all the emissions shit on them like the EGR emissions started requiring things like a catalytic converter and stuff among other things so I don't require any of that stuff. As far as some performance parts go I have a lot of Edge products on her like a super programmable Edge CTS2 Juice Attitude Power Porogrammer Module, a 4 inch stainless steel Edge Jammer Exhaust System with a 4 inch polished stainless tip and it even has a polished stainless muffler! She also has an Edge Jammer Air Intake System amd all my Edge work great together. I also have an Edge ampd throttle sensitivity booster module Control unit coming in a few days which will increase pedal response and reduce my acceleration lag plus build my turbo boost more quickly. I also have lots of other performance parts. It seems like these days everyone has round halo lights now so I got some headlights with u-shaped halos and some sweet custom turn signals and fog lights along with some black smoked tail lights and an under tailgate LED light bar. Of course she also has a black billet aluminum chevy emblem plus a black billet aluminum fuel door too An AFE Power rear diff. A really nice spray in bed liner retractable bed hooks in the side rails of tj and inside the bed, they are something small but really cool and functional. I just got some new monotube Pro Comp shocks and some I have some Kryptonite tie rods coming soon to replace the pitiful stock tie rods. I also have some sweet gloss black Westin 4 inch GenX step bars I just still need to put on. She has a loaded LT interior with all the bells and whistles and also has a 7 inch touch screen stereo with a backup camera and two 10 inch subs and soon I plan on getting new component speakers and an amp for too. Plus to show my Chevy pride I have a sweet Chevy decal in the back window. I also have some other small things like a smoked front hood guard, widow deflectors and front tinted windows to match the back. That's just the beginning, next I'll be upgrading my steering and suspension system. Hopefully I'll aslo be getting a lift pump and possibly new injectors so that I can run more fuel to my engine so that I can turn my chip up to level 5 without damging the engine. I'd also like to get a turbo piping system like you have. If I can afford it I'd like to get a performance turbo and transmission too!. Plus a light bar hidden behind the grill and a lot more things too. Sorry to go on and on about all I have on her so far it's just that seeing trucks like yours with all the really cool stuff on them inspires me to make Big Red better and gives me ideas on what I can put on her so thank you for that! Keep up the good videos and installing all the cool new parts dude! 👍
It’s a 2007, watch some of my newer videos this truck is completely different now. It might give you better ideas on what to do with your truck thanks for watch the videos and best of luck to you
@@TruckMaster Truck Master Sure thing bud I will do, I'd like to see more of what you've put on your truck it's so cool, I wish my truck was that Badass! She is getting there and hopefully in time she will be. Hey you never answered my question which size lift and tires do you have on her. She looks similar to Big Red so I'm gonna guess a 6" lift and 37" tires. She looks bigger but no offense but I think thats cuz your not as tall as me, I'm 6'2" and my head barely sticks over the hood of Big Red lol! Also do you have a video of how you mounted your hidden light bar behind your grill?
Join in next week and he will show you how to change the hub assembly! Torque wrench checking out.
Bro how did you get it to drop like that? I’m doing my passenger side and have started taking the hub off because I can’t get the thing to fit past the sway bar link
Did you use a standard stock cv axle? I'm hearing you have to use a different model for lifted trucks?
No tongue wrench on the wheel nut will wreck your wheel bearing over time. Mine was and had to replace cv because it was cross threaded by air gunning it on like this
another great video thanks man
Driver side much different from passenger side? I watched people taking wheel off but I can’t remember if my dust cover is still on. Also one video removed bottom shock bolt and another the sway bar bolt. To get those out of the way to get it out. I’ll try it first before removing any more bolts then I have to. $60 I wish. Was $130 for mine. 2007 Silverado 2500HD classic. Video is four years old so maybe went up but over double seems exorbitant.
Did you buy an extended cv Axle bc the truck was lifted or a factory cv axle????
Thanks ! From Los Angeles 👍🏽- looks like I’ll be doing this myself and save me some money
As usual, you make it look easy.
You got this Edwin
Lmfao at that outtake see you on the next one.
+Josh Ansin I'm glad someone caught that lol! Thanks man
Thanks. Are the CV axles different on the 07-10 LMM? I thought 01-10 was all the same. If the boot wasn't torn, would you have replaced them? How can you tell if your CV axles are bad?
+johnsta83 yes it's the same. It's bad when the boot tears or grab the center of the axle. And try to move it by pushing and pulling if there is any play it's bad as well.
nice video but so much dirt and grease i wonder if the connection got contaminated and failed down the road.
correct me if i’m wrong brother but don’t i need a specific type of cv axle ? since the truck is lifted .
You don’t but it’s best to buy the extended shafts from auto zone for trucks like mine that are lifted.
@@TruckMasteri do have some spacers . i actually heard for the 99-06 some users actually used the cv axles off a 2008. since it’s a bit longer . any idea
Was the CV axle making noise, if so what kind of noise? I’m having an issue with an intermittent whining noise on the passenger side. Wheel bearing has already been replaced.
Same here. What was making you that noise?
Mine has a lot of slop in it I just noticed... helpful video. Thx
Very impressive, and very helpful for when I do it this coming Saturday !
Helped me out with my 2006 chevy colorado preciate it!
I've been watching you since you started. i own a 06 lbz. keep up great work brother.
+Brandon Green I really appreciate the support thanks man
I have a 6 inch lift on mine and my cv shafts have spacers if I buy the shaft you bought do I still need that spacer?
Yes you still need them
@@TruckMaster wow thanks for replying!! So the spacers I have on now are hard plastic any recommendations on some better aluminum or steel ones if any are out there?!
A 4in lift on my 05 Tahoe. would regular CV axles cut it I want to do those before the lift
Now is acv joint in a lifted 4x4 longer ?
You're the man! Nice puzzle skills. Thanks!
Nice truck man. One of the best years tranny and engines!
Hey bud, great video!! My 06 is making a clunk and popping noise in 4H and low. Do you think i need to replace mine? What were your symptoms other than the boots being ripped?
+Shawn Duncan worst case it could be your front t-case but no other symptoms other than that good luck man
Would this be the same on a 06 1500? or do you have to pop those out like you do on other cars? Great vid!
+Jon Rylander yes! It’s basically the same process
great video bud. it might be because your truck is lifted that you can get your cv shaft in and out without removing the sway bar link. not sure, but I definitely had to remove mine. absolutely could not happen if I didn't. great job though.
+Matthew Easley thanks for the info! Take care
Running into this right now. Guess I’ll hit it after work tomorrow😂
they're trying to charge my girl $850+ for this.... great video great technique!
Thanks
That's crookery. I'm don't have the time to do it myself but I'm getting it done for $200 labor and the part is about $60. The shop is price gouging for sure.
I just paid a shop $380 for two new shafts $130 ea + labor $120 their hourly labor rate +tax. They also replaced my destroyed transfer case...for more money of course.
"Unsafe is how I roll".
That angle looks drastic! You will go through lots of cv's and destroy your diff in the process. Not to mention I hope you re-geared your gear ratios to match your tire size. You want enough ride hight to fit your tires and provide enough lift to keep your torsion down to a minimum so as to flatten the angle of the cv.
What size socket did you use on the big outside nut cause I have to change my cv and don't want to go buy alot of big sockets
How did you know yours was going out or was it just the busted boot???
Hey, how are you? Also, you should get some black paint that you can spray on the cab lights to black them out. My brother did it to his and it looks a lot better
+Septic Spud thanks! I will do a video on it take care man
Awesome dude! Thanks for reading my comment.
Gracias me aorraste mucho trabajo y dinero y stres solo trabaja con más seguridad porque los blokes pudieron verse qebrado
saposta torque ur cv axel nut.. I think 177ft/ lbs.. over tight will wear the hub out
Do I need a different cv shaft then the stock one if I have a lift
No
The one I took off today was star shaped like that, the new one is round. Does it matter?
Another easy way cool👍👍..
I have a 97 tahoe 6in lift and my driver side shaft fell out twice. I have a spacer as well. Any ideas why its falling out?
Nice work bro
How many bolts does your cv axle have? Trying to order and there is an oem one with 8 holes. And an aftermarket one with 6 and circular not botched like yours. Granted mine is a 2016 duramax. Just odd. Nice video man.
What year is your truck
Buddy... love how the build is coming along..... but, with all the money spent... DO NOT SELL... after it's all done. Also look into getting undercoating done and adding some AMP power steps.
+Inspire_Greatness74 your right, I already decided I might as well keep it. The next project is knocking that rust off the frame and brush painting it. Thanks for the input take it easy
Truck Master what size is that hub nut? 21mm?
It kills me to see all that rust D: luckily i live in florida so my duramax is pretty rust free... maybe you should look into undercoating?
What kind of shocks you running on your truck my 05 duramax rides really stiff since I lifted it
+Keejay Jackson I went with the bilstien 5100s they ride much softer I did a video on the install
Thanks a lot please keep the videos coming I need a water pump now just saw your video really help me out
You can buy just a replacement boot to install while the CV Joint is still on the truck.
+BUDDY LIGHT good point
+Michael Young Tie Rods would be the first upgrade from there I would go efi live and a built trans...traction bars, intake, exhaust etc... it depends how much you want to spend but that would be the order I would go
+Michael Young yes I would still do it
Thanks
cool vid dude!!
I got an 05 Silverado brother with 6 inch lift my front driver side axle keeps popping out . Any recommendations on which one to use to stop it from poppping oit
Need an extended travel cv axle for lift , they make them
@@Raptor-7 my truck is on a 6 inch lift and stock cv axles fit for my 05 silverado 1500
Fkin eh ty I will be doin exactly this tommorow
What type of cv axles you have?
Man I go through cv axles, sway bar end links, and ujoints each year it seems. I replace the ball joints every 3-4 years
Sounds like you have another problem going off they're wearing out that easily
Good video! Thanks brother!
Wath if it dont want to trun when u put it back the new one
How long is the labor per side?
10 minutes per side
Good video
Do u have cranked keys?
how often does ur cv blow out on my 97 yukon it goes out alot ive blown like 7 in the last 3 months
+TONIO. ACE it's the angle of your shaft also if your truck is lifted and you don't have spacers between the shaft and where its bolted to it will blow quick
Ok thanks man
@@TruckMaster Where do you go to buy your CV axles then? I notice that you don't have a spacer for yours.
No jack stands just take a chance....huh?
Ahhhh perro te dejaste cai !!!
No torque wrench?????????
And that's a 36mm axle nut on a 2500hd!
Do you have to have both wheels lifted?
+bob saget no
Sorry i know its late, just trying to beat the cold weather down here by watervliet
What have you noticed with the fass pump any gain on mpg
+Adam Rhudy not sure yet I'm still doing the math but as of now I haven't noticed a difference
I've got an lb7 that I'm looking at doing a bunch to here really soon and a fass is one of the things whay all have you notice it helping
+Adam Rhudy the most noticeable difference is it accelerates faster after the FASS install
What size is the cv axle nut
What part did u buy
good video.
+Brandon Green thanks man
What’s the torque specs
Good video but use jack stands bud
Holy rust Batman...
Good video but you didnt say anything about torque ratings
isn't it important to tork the nuts to a specific ft.lb.
YES!!! If you don't, you will be buying a set of hubs. Not sure what it is on the 2500. it's 177ft lbs on 1500's. Maybe he got lucky and got it close to spec.
Also the locking nut preload
I just got my truck lifted and now after a week it is making like a grinding noise when i turn right slowly and when i go up a drive way . What do you think the problem is
@@folowjustahtypical_5.344 exactly what he's doing here. Ive been lifted since 2012 and only in the past year and a half have I noticed it more and more. When the noise AND THE STABILITRAK AND ABS LIGHTS got to the point where everything screams help me just as soon as I leave the driveway, I decided to take another look.
Dude..... my boot is now completely blown out! Grease everywhere... covered in dirt and grime. It's an ugly sight. So I parked it, ordered my CV axles. They're here now, putting them on in a minute.
Advice though: get under there and take a legit look at your boots. The little grease you see MIGHT mean bad news INSIDE the boot. Like I said, I've seen that before but when my issue became immediate everytime I take her out, that's when I learned it was REALLY BAD.
Good luck buddy
jerremy jones thanks man ill check that out today and if it is ill order the cv axles right away
Your seriously didn't torque the outer nut to spec??? What!? Could cost you the wheel hub bearings? Just saying. I was hoping that you would bring out the torque wrench.
thanks for the help, i need to get my pimpmobile @ol_hazy (instagram handle) back on the road
How much lift do you have on it truck
6”
@@TruckMaster And no spacers?
@@TruckMaster I bought extended axles and when I go to torque the hub nut I can no longer rotate the wheel.. thinking I still need spacers?
What is the torque specs on that?
Probably not much help now, but 177ftlb
Please somebody correct me but since that truck is lifted, it might be a lot harder on stock.
